Its a C1, and at the very beginning you can hear the clean tone with just the amp itself, no pedals. I used (have an ac30 now) the top boost channel, eq set to taste. Make sure the gain isnt up too high or it will sound fizzy. Also, if you have a guitar with hot pickups, that could be an issue. I havnt had good results with hot pickups and vox amps.
Give it a few years and watch people start looking all over the place for one of those MXR's for their collection. They're very usable and give a low output single-coil all the oomph it could ask for before hitting the tubes.
I have the MOD on my board, but my friend has the ts-9. To be honest, they are both great choices, with the MOD having a little more versatility, and the TS-9 being the classic sound. Both are awesome!
Hey dude, what's that pedal on your board with the green chicken head knobs? I sold my MXR Custom Badass Modified OD and I regret it terribly I think I'm gonna buy it again because the sound it gives you, you can get from a JHS Moonshine but the Moonshie will cost about 80 bucks more.
Hi, MXR vs TS, which one got more clean headroom ya? tq. I just want the pedal to colour and boost my guitar signal into the tube amp. I dont want the signal to clip inside the pedal. Super appreciate your kind response :)
it isn't like a clean boost pedal so if that's what you want maybe consider something else. MXR modified OD is more of a light/mid gain OD with Tube screamer qualities.
to be fair the timmy had the gain up higher for most of the demo (still sounds awesome) but this really makes my decision hard :( any recomendations for punk/ metal? i mean the ts9 has that classic tone but it's a bitt cliche and over used. so for hard punk like blink 182 and metal like megadeth between the timmy and mxr, you're choice would be? thanks for reading
Thanks, I have a c1 as well - I've had "fizz" problems with od pedals. I use a jazzmaster, which doesn't have hot pickups (I think). Question: how high do you have your master volume (not the gain volume). I've heard the master needs to be jacked up a bit to hit that sweet spot on the c1.
The Modified OD IMHO is one of the GREAT overdrive pedals, it doesn't sound like a Timmy, it's not trying to sound like a Timmy, and it doesn't sound like a TS9 or a TS808, it has a character of its own and for me it's really one of the best ODs out there, I'm tired of the TS and TS based pedals or clones of the TS but the Modified OD is super verstile and it really deserves the name of OVERDRIVE. That's my 2 cents anyway.
***** Hey Matt it's like this I have the ts9 and the modified OD and the Maxon OD808x I sold the Maxon OD9 and the OD 808 and the Modified OD is very different from the TS9 it's a totally different pedal and super versatile which the TS9 although excellent it's not as versatile as the Modified OD some people may say "yeah well the Modified OD isn't all that transparent or that it colors your tone" but what is tone anyway sometimes I like the sound of my amp to be colored it gives me a diversity of sounds everything that is of high quality has it's place and sometimes I like it transparent and other times I love the power of the Modified OD but it's up to you.
***** Cheers Matt....PS I have a small collection of very expensive pedals but in my opinion and for the money MXR has some killer pedals not all of course but their univibe is great and a couple of their distortion pedals like the Super Badass and also the Micro amp, If you want quality high quality and don't have a lot of money for a boost for example the MC 401 or the Micro amp kill a lot of boutique pedals and believe I don't get paid by MXR to say this it's just my opinion.
***** Ya know a lot of people and I would say most people assume that if a pedal costs 300 bucks than it has to be great or it has to be better than the pedal that costs 100 bucks but it's not always so. I've had all kinds of pedals over the years really expensive pedals, cheap pedals and moderately priced pedals and all I can say is that for example I had the Fulltone Plimsoul that cost me well over 200 bucks about 220 and I sold it because I could never get a good sound out of it. If the MXR Modified OD was on sale for 250 bucks a lot more people would buy it, wanna bet, they'd say "Oh yeah this is a fabulous pedal MXR really out did themselves on this one I gotta have it!" because unfortunately with the pedal market the way it is, it's a gold mine really, a lot of people are more preoccupied with how much their pedals and guitars cost than how they actually sound and if it's really worth all the money they paid for it...it's kind of sad really. Take care. Mike.
***** One more thing... a lot of MXR pedals I sold in the past in order to buy other more expensive brands...I ended up buying those same MXR pedals I sold because it was only when I had a few 300 euro pedals in my hands that I actually realized how good they were...so there it is. Cheers.
Have u ever tried the timme against the fulltone ocd or plimsoul? I am wanting to replace my ts9 for one of tthem but I am unsure on what to get. What would u get? Thanks
How are you getting those clean tones out of the AC15? Is this an AC15c1? Or handwired, or what? Mine sounds like sh*t compared to this - but I also don't have the timmy, which may be the problem. Mine sounds fizze with any od/distortion.
Just to clear something up before i answer you, Blink is the opposite of hard punk, they are the softest of punk rock Anyways, i would get a fulltone ocd
Ahh, you were doing so well right up 'til "Hillsong riff".It's a great demo/review...BUT: Get out while you still can!! All they want is money and your mind under their control. Prosperity Gospel is antithetical to authentic Christianity. It's CAPITALISM. As a Kiwi living in Sydney, I feel ashamed that we produced such an evil person as Mr. Hillsong (hewhoshallnotbenamed). I'm sympathetic to many intelligent theologians, the best of whom are often quite atheistic. For me, as a student of philosophy, it breaks my heart to see so many young minds and alienated folks led astray by this appalling worship of Mammon, of the Moloch that eats the slaves to reproduce itself according to the perverse logic of growth via accumulation and consolidation of capital, sold to the well-meaning followers as somehow "spiritual". It is anything but. It's a hair away from Corporate Fascism.
Thank you for the demo! I just picked up the MXR and it's awesome! Thanks.

Agreed. It can come fairly close to the TS-9 if needed but it can do much more than that. They are a good buy now. Very good OD for bass too.
So it's good for single coils? The MXR
Please, can you tell me what brand the Timmy is or who makes it???
I find that the timmy has that 2.5k bee hive frequency, that I personally do not appreciate. On video the mxr is quasi indistinguishable from the TS9
Nice sound, bro! Really great.
Very good demo with developed tone subtilities ! Cheers \m/
Modified OD FTW!
HI
would you make a viedo : comparison with Timmy and Little Green boosted by TS9??
The MXR OD is definitely a modified tube screamer.
The Timmy is quite different. The Timmy has less of the mid bump and more of a fatter bottom.
Modded SD-1 circuit in fact, not a TS 😉
@@BramEngelenMusic Oh ok. I know they are very similar with the TS being symmetrical clipping and the SD1 being Asymmetrical.
@@endezeichengrimm Right on the money! 😉
i see you're using the LGW as well. just curious how you have it set up in comparison to the MOD. i have them both on my board as well.
wait is that a handwired ac 30?
I have the MOD on my board, but my friend has the ts-9. To be honest, they are both great choices, with the MOD having a little more versatility, and the TS-9 being the classic sound. Both are awesome!
For worship would you rather use the ts-9 or the modified OD?
WWJD?!
TIMMAY!
Thanks for the vid. Nice comparison.

Cusack!
mxr bump switch is on??
Hi, MXR vs TS, which one got more clean headroom ya? tq. I just want the pedal to colour and boost my guitar signal into the tube amp. I dont want the signal to clip inside the pedal. Super appreciate your kind response :)
I can answer that on a clean amp the mxr's level knob has insane amounts of volume.
it isn't like a clean boost pedal so if that's what you want maybe consider something else. MXR modified OD is more of a light/mid gain OD with Tube screamer qualities.

Id choose the mxr for metal and punk. I want you to go 5 years back into the past and get the mxr. No complaining allowed.
Sam Moon Lol
I'm almost a decade later but no way blink 182 is "hard punk" lol
what amp are you using and is that guitar a hollowbody?
Thanks, I have a c1 as well - I've had "fizz" problems with od pedals. I use a jazzmaster, which doesn't have hot pickups (I think). Question: how high do you have your master volume (not the gain volume). I've heard the master needs to be jacked up a bit to hit that sweet spot on the c1.
what's the song at 3:01 ?
What delay is that?

Mike Swann not trying to get into your guys conversation am thinking about being either the green rhino or this pedal or maybe both what you think?
Nice slippers!
Have u ever tried the timme against the fulltone ocd or plimsoul? I am wanting to replace my ts9 for one of tthem but I am unsure on what to get. What would u get?
Thanks
Some good JJ tube or TAD tubes will do the trick
Like#109 and Subscribed...Thx 4 Ur Video !
@lilmetalhead17 i think that song i called your love never fails by jesus culture.
MXR sounds a little brighter and would cut through better.
How are you getting those clean tones out of the AC15? Is this an AC15c1? Or handwired, or what? Mine sounds like sh*t compared to this - but I also don't have the timmy, which may be the problem. Mine sounds fizze with any od/distortion.

@thecalv10 Cool, I ended up getting both haha
A MXR Carbon Copy
Almost sound like distortion pedals. Course yur using a bright sounding amp and guitar, i take it.
