Hey all, sorry to reupload but I made an editing error and couldnt just leave it.
The Tiger I here belongs to a private collection and is under restoration. More info on it soon should I have the privilege of sharing such : )
This isn't the Bovington one? Cool!
I can't believe that it only took ONE of those to pull a Tiger around!
Frakking awesome, glad you fired this one off at us so soon, regardless of all the rest of it. Good job!
Tygrys wygląda jakby należał, do właścicieli z Polski, bo często przewijają się polskie słowa;)
Na pewno z tego co widziałem, jest Polska ekipa PanzerFarm ;)
Bet you loved this event!
I really hope they plan on getting it running some day, if possible.
TIL Famo isn't just another half-track. It's an absolute unit. A great logistical partner for the Tiger.
Sdkfz 9 "Big Chungus"
Big load to pull for a single famo didn't the wehrmacht have a rule that a tiger be pulled by 3 famo due to the weight
i don't know the famo has his work cutout the tiger don't gif it away
This Famo doesnt have to original engine I guess...sounds like a turbocharged diesel engine.
Indeed an absolute unit, but you can tell it's really struggling with the load in this clip. Goes straight despite trying to turn and track slippage in spots. If it was anywhere else but perfectly flat it wouldn't be able to do much.
Far better seeing them in the mud than in a museum
The FAMO recovery vehicle is very capable, to tow a Tiger 1 tank without much apparent effort! It's great that these old vehicles have been kept in such good condition!
Engine tatra
Did yall notice when those half-tracks moved the Earth's rotation changed a bit? Absolute torque monsters!
Notice the FAMO’s tires dragging sideways?
@@fw1421 Heck yeah I did! Unreal! One of those moments that you just hold on and hope for the best.
@@fw1421 The front wheels of the FAMO had the function of directing only small movements on the road. In fact, as you can see, they are not driving wheels (as for example in the American halftraks) and could very well be removed, without compromising either the mobility or the traction capacity of the vehicle. The same thing for all other German half-tracks, including KettenKrad.
Loved seeing the FAMO Ballet., Militracks 2023 edition! Seeing so many working together all while towing the Tiger I. They made the BiG Cat "dance" in what likely been many, many years! Thanks to Sofi for filming, and all of the vehicle owners/stewards for their passion in preserving these artifacts of history
Good god, I knew the FAMO was big but I've never seen it like that lmao. Incredible
Very nice Video. I was also there on the regular days and would have loved some more movement or getting closer to the Tiger.
But nice of you to bring these things to us via Video :)
Great footage of the Tiger 1! I was there all the time, but missed this part somehow! 😂 Kettenkrad world record was fun though!
I love this video! For just a moment, I could see German WW2 uniformed personel working on recovering a Tiger I then moving it closer to the rear to work on getting it back in the fight. Museums are fantastic but watching them operate is much better. Watching it in person you get the full experience with the smells, the dust, the sounds with the exception of hearing/watching gun practice.
A huge surprise seeing this Tiger. I suppose, being privately owned,it's been kept out of the public eye.I believe there's also a King Tiger being fully restored in Switzerland (?)
that was great footage excellent to see such work by these ww2 halftracks. thank you, good stuff.
Very cool....I guess he caught a tiger by the tow!!! Thanks for posting !
What a sight to behold, thanks for sharing Sofi :)
Super Cool vehicles ... I LOVE these Half Track beasts ....since I was a little 7 year old Kid !!! Luuuvvee them !! So cool.
Thanks!
Nifty towtruck!
On the expression on your face. that must been a lot of fun. You look like kid in a candy stor. I hope you come to Sweden soon. You are always welcome. ⭐⭐⚡⚡⭐⭐
According to official German procedure a Tiger should always be towed by MULTIPLE heavy halftracks.
This was also done (three or more heavy halftracks) at Militracks if I'm not mistaken.
The Tigers really were the best looking tanks made
Beaux et imposants mais les plus perfectibles de leurs l'époques...
Love that engine sound i really like both vehicles that famo is great
Now we know why the Germans built giant half tracks.
Excelentes imágenes. Felicitaciones desde 🇨🇱🇨🇱
Tiger Half track famous military vehicles in WWII
Mighty Tiger.
Sofilein is the only girl I know, who has a faible for the really big wild cats! 😉👍
The video is a good example, why with the appearance of the Tiger in 1942, at least two, or even better 3 of these half-track vehicles were planned to tow this steel monster!😵😳
@1:30 Gonna need a BIGGER trailer!!! 😁Very cool! Cheers!!!
Vulcanization makes it possible 🎉
It's they welded the front of a tuck to an heavy tank chassie
I can almost smell the fumes and taste the dust!
I certainly dont envy tha guy(s) who had to crawl/lay down in that cramp'd space to remove the Tigers transmission output shafts to the brakes/final drives, in order so it could be towed!...ICK!..;)
Hilarious! Reminds me of my brother getting his Chevy Silverado getting pulled out of a ditch by his wife's F-150 🤣🤣🤣
What a beautiful sight, like elephants 😅
Tiger Tiger, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
Very poetic... Indeed, the Tiger I lacks the almost feminine grace of the Panther or Tiger II. But it perfectly renders the concept of "symmetry", like the facade of the Parthenon.
Odd how halftracks were very popular back then and now nobody uses them?
If only 75 years ago more German armor was saved instead being scrapped. Great video.
Dear Sofi,
Do you know if they are sourcing a Maybach power plant for it? If it's not in running condition they could do a soft restoration like Bovington's Jagtiger.
It's really interesting seeing some towbar action by the way.
Great footage!
Bovington's Jagdtiger remained mostly intact from war's end to now.
This Tiger was assembled from shattered fragments and a partial hull. I expect that its original insides were gone. There is no comparing it to the Jagdtiger.
@@daveybyrden3936 Sorry for not clarifying, what I meant by soft restoration was basically cleaning up an non running power plant. Prettying it all up for static display.
Pretty much for maybe an indoor exhibit with a pretty clean (ish) looking engine in there.
@@leopardone2386 You think there's an engine in this rebuilt wreck? I don't know, maybe there is. But I'm told they dug the tank out of the ground as broken pieces. If they DID find an engine, would they put it in the tank to NOT do anything?
Where did you get the info?
@@daveybyrden3936 Okay let me start over, not sure if my wording is awful but I apologize in advance if that is the case.
So, I already assume there is no Maybach Engine in this vehicle, as far as I know as a mere enthusiast that it is common that they are missing in static displays in the modern day.
That is why I was asking Sofi if the restoration team was looking to source one as at that time this particular Tiger was new to my attention and I didn't know its condition.
Now on to explain me mentioning both Bovington's JagTiger and static displays of Maybach HL 210/30 and similar powerplants.
The Bovington Jagtiger as far as I know is not running, yet the engine compartment itself is open to the public last I checked. ( Unless it's been closed at time of writing.)
This a perfect example along with various other displays of static Maybach Engines used in these vehicles being cleaned up a little and paired outside with or even installed in an vehicle.
That was my double headed question at the time.
If your interested Bovington put out some videos of restoring an Maybach HL 230 engine in thier workshop. Also there is information of the recovery of the former Littlefield Collection's Panther engine and how they got that going again.
To be clear, I am wondering if similar treatment for the Militracks 2023 Tiger will be given, even if just for display to give more context should it be placed in a museum setting.
I think there are a few HL 210s floating around the NACC at Fort Moore as well ( Formerly Benning).
If you love the big cats , then you love the engines too! Lol.
Kind regards.
At about 08:11 in this video:
*UNPOWERED/UNARMED TANK* = *1*
*DRONE* = *0*
🤭🤭🤭
The driver was a Czech! :D
Yes it is from a Czech collection!
Appreciate you for correctly think this would be entertaining. Been thinking about the future of tanks in regards to the Ukraine war.
Hey Sofilein
for me thé Tiger 1 is big Sisters the king tiger
Is this an original tiger? I thought it took two FAMO to pull a tiger. Usually.
It is, iirc it is a combination of at least two- put together for the show by the private owner- of course there are some replica parts too. It's under restoration and doesn't have an engine or transmission at the time of filming, and so it's a bit lighter but mainly has no resistance, and the FAMO also has a more modern diesel in. A few things contribute!
und deswegen ist Instandsetzung so wichtig - das Bergen von ausgefallenen Fahrzeugen macht eine Neuproduktion und Ersatz nicht notwendig, wenn der Panzer reparierte werden kann
Can anyone tell me about the history of this tank
Was that 131?
No, this is late production Tiger in private collection
cool
Someone said this is from Panzer Farm in Poland, does anyone know if that is correct
I can hear Polish, so it's probably true
Not correct 🤗 but the owner wants to be private for now.
@@Sofilein thanks, I thought it would be odd to bring it all the way from Poland
Too much for just one Famo... Hope that nothing of the haldtrack mechanics was broken or damaged
Hopefully the tiger one is a reproduction because of the weight would not want to tear up that nice half-track
Not a reproduction !
It is probably the "Hoebig Second Tiger". His arrival was foretold by Dr. Mark Felton in his "Frankentiger" video.
Thanks I'd like to know more about it
Yes I know the half-track was designed to do that
The Zugmaschine doesn't have to schlepp the entire weight of the Tiger. Its rolling weight, just have to to overcome gravity. Like 2 men can push a car on its wheels but not lift it off the ground.
Thank you. Fabulous to see things like this actually happening in 2023. Never would have imagined it 30 years ago. And there are more "new" Tigers to come.
Even being towed this Tiger looks badass.
I love how the front wheels seem to meekly suggest which direction the half track will go, other times its just creating more drag.
Slow speed the steering wheel turns, the more lock us applied the track clutches engage and stear
Absolutely outstanding footage Sofi, thanks so much for sharing!
Can a tiger I defend itself against modern drone attacks? 8:15 = YES ;-) ;-)
Better than most Russian T-90M's
I've never seen a half track so big! Amazing 😃
Only assembled a 1:35 model by Tamiya. The real one is awesome!
I love these huge halftracks
Me too👍
The Famo is an absolute beast! I love how it says on the back, max pulled load 18 tonnes😂
Loved militracks this year. I hope to see this tiger move on it`s own power soon. Those big half tracks are just fun to watch. The size of these vehicles is even bigger in real life compared to the look in the video. Thx for sharing Sofi!
Boy those recovery vehicles sure are handy things to have kicking around.
My father was driver on a Famo 1941 to '45. Now i can imagine, what work it was. Towing a Tiger with only one 18to is only possible in good road condition, mud, deep sand, hills need more of these big maschines.
Thanks to sofilein
🤔
😂
Holy crap that half track is massive!!
I love half-tracks and this big one is absolut stunning! Insane.
Yes these are my favorite!! Having so many at the event this year was such a treat.
@@Sofilein I wish i were there 😍. So cool you had the honor.
They must make the Tiger a runner. In the book "'Tigers in the mud" Otto Carrius wrote that the Germans would use three Famo's to pull one Tiger over difficult terrain.
Tiger all most scored an air kill!!
Fascinating video, did,nt fast forward once. Imagine 76 odd years and still paying its way ( the half track - what a beast). thank you Sofilein
Hello Sofilein, Thank you Thank you for posting this Tiger I video!!! A truly magnificent and beautiful beast!!
We NEED this. Bring it back. Make it happen please.
Great to see, but surprising to see one FAMO moving a Tiger. Even if (we assume) no ammo, engine or transmission it would still be far beyond the 18t towing capacity of the Sdkfz.9. Or was that just a precaution? Period photos show 2-3 FAMOs to tow one Tiger.
@@HaVoC117X Aha, I see, I had for some reason taken 18t to be the towing capacity. 2x 35t. would indeed be enough for a tiger. I remember the Tamiya kit showed the various towing methods including one behind as a brake.
No expert here, but all of the sources that I've look at show that the FAMO had a towing capacity of 28 tons, about half of a Tiger I's weight, and that two, three, and even four FAMO's would be used to tow Panthers, Tigers, and King Tigers. I imagine that towing for a short time at a low speed in a low gear wouldn't damage the FAMO much, but i wonder if it has a modern drive train to cope with the 60 ton Tiger??
I don't think the Tiger is an empty cocoon (no engine, transmission etc.), unless they've filled it with ballast. The position of the track rollers suggests that the torsion bars are under load.
Hey Sofilein! Can you confirm that is a real Tiger 1 that has been rebuilt? I see a lot of reports that are very conflicting about where it came from and what it really is! Thanks!
Usually for the weight of a tiger up to 3 18 ton fammo would need to be used, is this tiger full weight
Its really amazing to see these machines in action. You really get a sense of what it mustve been like being around them in ww2.
My thanks to the curator/owners of these beautiful machines. Just awesome.
I'm sure many people have said it already, but its amazing to see the real thing, having made plastic scale models of these vehicles for years. Fantastic video, thank you so much.
What a treat! Thank you for sharing these gorgeous beasts!
Hey Sofi , it was cool to see and glad to see you back on here . Big Wave and Smile to you .
Fantastisch,ik wordt er emotioneel van.Zo mooi👍
Great vid Sofi thanks for sharing, That drone pilot 08:14 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Das war ein sehr schönes Wochenende. Danke an Sofilein für dieses schöne Video.
,Very atmospheric images of a Tiger in its natural environment. This endangered species is very rear, you are very lucky to capture it, with another best the mighty Falmo. Some very skilful driving by someone up front.
Nicely shot Sofi. Hope there will be more to come.
Главное это в прошлом а сейчас просто история, но что то каждые 75-100 лет это повторяеться, я вам одно скажу кого ни учит история, ни слушайте американцев, живите своей жизнью, иначе мы придём к вам😅
I knew those big halftracks were big but had no idea they were THAT huge!
That's a big bi**h!
And thanks for the video!
Age degrades my 'Bucket List' year by year now (68) today.
I would Love to see this combo in person Solfilein!
Maybe next year Na?
I got to ride a Hetzer there back in 2015, was quiet fun and very loud. Im hopefully gonna go back next year in may :D
Sofilein, I would love to kiss your hand.
Impressive pieces of equipment
Looks like you had a fun trip, cool stuff!!!
Awsome camera you have used lol😂
The FAMO kinda dwarfs the Tiger.....
A pity it was so far away for the normal public too.
Lol the cat swatted that drone! 😂
Thanks so much. She's right, this is very cool. Seeing this made my day. I know under tactical conditions, the Germans typically used three Famo 18 ton halftracks to recover a Tiger, but I wasn't aware that three working Famo halftracks still existed today. Wow.
works as designed - quite well and got the job done
Is it an 12 to or 18 to---this tiger is empty--the turett weight´s 12 tons--but cool too--thx rolf--enjoy the clip!!!
Max Zuglast 18T, BS 54T is no problem. Fantastic footage! Thanks for sharing. What motor is in this Famo? Not the v12 petrol Maybach i guess.
18 tons is the weight of the vehicles fully loaded. Max tow is between 28 and 35 tons. The Tiger is missing a lot of parts in the inside, hence it's much lighter.
The Famo used a V12 maybach similar to the once used in Panzer IIIs and IVs
Yes, definately not the Maybach petrol engine, sounds like a diesel
@@sg195286 Yes, it is a diesel.
The Maybach HL120 in the Famo is very quiet. I restored the Famo of the Wheatcroft collection over twenty years ago.
@@brutter602 just listen to well maintained panzer III and IVs they sound almost the same. Even the Tiger 131 in Bovington has the typical smooth maybach Sound.
It's a petrol engine.
@@HaVoC117X Yes, they are all petrol.
I have re-built HL120 and HL230.
They use roller bearings on the crankshaft.
Very smooth and quiet.
The HL230 uses a lot of fuel. About 12 litres for 1km in a Panther or Tiger.
It dawns on you while watching this....
The Tiger there.... most likely has killed people (during the War).
I do wonder how many other tanks it took out...
It's seems the tracksteering on the FAMO is not working (or used) properly? 🤔🤔
Steering with the wheels only is clearly not enough.
Maybe because of the really heavy load 💪🏼
This video clearly shows some of the problems with MBTs. The excessive weight / complexity. Today's Western tanks are so much bigger and heavier. Very difficult to retrieve if even a track gets damaged by a simple and cheap mine for example.
An article about the recovery of a Tiger in a just-post-war REME journal mentioned their surprise at its very low rolling resistance.
REME = Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
These kinds of vehicles are commonly called "half-track", but that doesn't do them justice. They're more like "three quarter tracks", or "tracked, with wheel-assisted steering".
Awesome how the German interleaved track wheels interlock and eliminate a lot of the empty space between them and the haul, acts as an additional armor plate of sorts, everyone always talks about how debris can get in there and lock them up but no one talks about the passive protection it provides...haters
The FAMO sounds like it has a diesel engine. Was it originally equipped with a Maybach gasoline engine?
