He's barely singing in those parts, you don't notice that in the finished cut, it's just part of the song. But the last chorus is still super emotional! The lack of Daron's singing is what's making some parts of Serj's vocals sound a bit flatter than you're used to. Serj actually sings the harmony part for the chorus so that bit sounds extra weird without Daron providing melody.

Serj is also just a stupidly competent and unique vocalist and a very strong instrumentalist and a very good songwriter. And while I think Daron is a stronger songwriter, I don't actually think he's a stronger guitarist. That's subjective as hell, however.
