As a few other said - this could be a series for you as you travel! I’d love to see a reality show type challenge where REAL chefs have to cook 100% in your van - then you have to repeat it!
@@UrsusGrett Some people just show emotion differently! Kyle clearly seems to be a pretty reserved, mostly stoic personality just based on this vid, so even that outburst at the end was definitely a big reaction from him.
First, how great is having a Michelin chef as a friend! Second, he is so chill! And he took time out of his schedule to cook in your van!! What a comedown. Not in a bad way but let's face it his kitchen does not lean. It's interesting seeing you hang out with your friends. Love the video. It's different from your norm but very interesting. Giving him that knife was the icing on the cake.
This was awesome Ryan! Tell your buddy thanks again for the appearance and teaching me some new techniques! And what a great friend to gift him that knife. The reaction he made when he realized was priceless 😁
Great dynamic between you both. Kyle seems like a master of his craft and really patient (even though you can tell he wanted to bust your balls a couple times as any friend would). It'd be cool to see y'all do an episode once a quarter or something!
Loved seeing Kyles reaction to the knife haha. You're a good friend for that! Also loved the style of this video, kind of half kitchen adventure half van life giving someone else an experience.
Ryan! I see you’ve essentially turned your van into a gourmet kitchen on wheels! 😄 And shoutout to your mate for his “essentially” amazing vocabulary while guiding you through the 3-course magic. Can’t wait for more van-cooked delicacies! Loving the content.
Ryan, big respect for buying that knife as a thank you gift. Its not the usual overused YT video " Hey watch me buy a pizza for a homeless dude while my buddy is filming" No! Its your personality that bought this knife. You are a original dude with a heart. I missed all the Alaska trip series as I have a 4 month daughter @home.. But those videos sure ain't going nowhere and Im gonna take a look at them later on. Cheers!
Ryan ! Quick tip with your new beautiful chef knife, you need to get a softer cutting board i.e one made of bamboo or a soft wood to stop the knife from dulling quickly ! hard plastic will dull that knife and its a pretty big task to wetstone them nice and sharp again. Just a heads up !
Nice to see a two star Michlin. The recipes are very refine. Fancy machine to make the basil oil. What a process. The kitchen is so minimaal to ensure nothing I suppose interferes with the cooking process. This is nice added treat and maybe in your travels Ryan you could stop in and highlight during your travels special eatting places with their cooks. That would give business to them also.
@@SmokezTG ive been to tiktok went to youtube shorts then to Netflix didn’t even touch disney plus and everything is just so boring until ryan pulled up and the day went happy
Essentially Kyle is going to be amazed at how drunk I am now after taking a shot every time he said essentially ;) And though I will never make that meal as there are WAY TOO many steps for my simple brain, I would love to go eat at his restaurant! Great episode! xo
I just worked a 11 hour shift at my restaurant and came home and really enjoyed watching you see a professional kitchen and level up a bit. You could see it in your face when he was showing you techniques, I loved this one bud!
And possibly the most useful of all was putting something under that cutting board lol But more seriously, I think it was a good insight to how much little things matter in any kind of cooking.
Great chemistry between you two! You all really complemented and balanced each other out. I agree with everyone else--great video and you should certainly turn this into a series. I really like Kyle's teaching style and how he carries himself.
Shoutout to your boy Kyle man. You can tell he’s extremely passionate about what he does in the kitchen. Kudos to you as well Ryan. The smile Kyle had on his face after you gave him that knife 🙌🙌🙌
Here's something crazy -- I just found you and have been binging your videos... and I've seen my former house FOUR TIMES in your footage! (Or at least the neighborhoods) - Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Jose and DC!
Like everyone has said, I think this could be a great series! Every chef has their own stories and creative process and I think it matches well with your passion for learning whether it's historical facts about the various places you visit or just new recipes.
LOL the Michelin star Chef seem to be getting a bit annoyed, with that said you are definitely going above and beyond and your channel is taking on a whole new level congratulations I'm intrigued
I think it’s because he’s just a special chef. For him to have gotten Michelin stars, who knows what type of environment he learnt how to cook from. He’s probably a killer and hyper focused in the kitchen. But I thought the same for a bit there too 😂
I would disagree. Maybe it's just a bit of his personality and the fact he was in front of a camera. I know for a fact I'd feel very weird and awkward at times lol
You have to understand that this guy is one of the top chefs in the world. There are only 13 restaurants in the US that have 3 Michelin stars and this guy's place has 2, which is also incredibly hard to get and keep. He hasn't had to train somebody with this level of skills probably since he was in his first year or two if ever. Most of the people that work in these amazing fine dining establishments already have experience that has led them to be one of the best at their job. So, went Ryan asked if you can make the raft into a chicken patty I thought he was going to choke lol. But I think he maintained his composure well for a Michelin starred chef dealing with a novice.
I love love love these longer videos!! Getting spoiled with all these long ones, but I just wanna say Me and my wife started watching together and we watch every night you post during our supper, we can't get enough of you! Thank you for all the content you provide for us, and an insight to what vanlife really is about!!❤
If you did this, with every chef in the country, you would be more popular than Bourdain. Great video man! Reminded me of him a lot. Mad love from Michigan!
i don't like mustard, either (as you mentioned in your last video). However, now that I see in this video that you are familiar with Trader Joe's, I think you would like its garlic mustard -- a very different flavor than regular mustard. I usually love mayo, but TJ's garlic mustard goes very well on some things, and I often use it together with mayo.
That was amzing! I love to watch dishes of food being created like this here. Thank you Kyle for showing us your expertise and thanks Ryan for all of this. Now Ryan we expect to see you cooking like this at least once every few episodes. Good job guys!
This is legit quality content. I really do think you are hitting your stride with these vids, Ryan. Its a joy to watch. And YES - im still on track to go full-time RV life next year. I have one of your stickers to go on the sticker wall. One of the first that will go on there. Kyle had that kid-at-Christmas look on his face with that knife. I do know a chef's knife collection is a sacred thing to the chef. Now his new addition will have this whole memory on it. WELL DONE, sir.
I've been enjoying your channel for while. However, today is real special. Nice to see you being in 2 star kitchen and working on some prep. Plating was very nice too. Being 2 star in DC, it must be one of 3 as of today. Thank you for your video. Keep up the good work!
I watch all of your videos, they are always fun, entertaining, relaxing, and interesting to watch. But this episode was your work of art to date. You knew exactly when to ask clarifying questions and the editing of the video was perfect for viewers. You have a ton of talent; reach high!
Loved this one! Super nice of Kyle to take time out to make the video and to you for surprising him with the knife. My husband and I enjoyed watching you enjoy learning from Kyle. Great job, Ryan! 👍🏻

My favorite video so far. This was great!! I can't wait to try to make that dessert. We have a mini farm in the backyard with many varieties of blueberries and citrus. Everything looks so good. Interesting video. Lots of behind the scene skills we don't get to see. Chef was very patient and helpful. I don't like how he checked the fish temperature below his lip . I guess we would have never known. Ryan you are so thoughtful to give him the gift... Made him show a rare smile. He is a serious and great chef... Ryan enjoyed every bite..ate like he was hungry. Amazing! Had no idea what a Michelin Star meal entailed. Was probably the simplest thing for Kyle but was awe inspiring for me. A bit of a picky eater so the ice cream was my fav but definitely would have tried and enjoyed it all. Gotta bring Kyle back for an encore performance.
