Really appreciate your videos. They are helpful to our TrailLife troop leaders as they teach the trailmen to earn their Fire Ranger badge! Merry Christmas!
Absolutely fascinating David. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's another one of your findings. Mind blowing, but then again, if you lit crumbled leaves with ash, it's only logical that punk wood would catch a spark. Thank you !!
@DavidWestBgood2ppl Oh, I don't know his Channel, and watched the video with the sound turned off (as when you post, it's night already in Europe 😁). Thanks for the clarification David !
Hi Mr. West thank you so much for sharing. I’m loving your channel. May the good Lord shine blessings upon you and your family have a merry Christmas and a happy new year.👍🏿👍🏿💯💯❤️❤️🎉🎊
I got a morakniv garberg among other things for Christmas. I’ll be trying more of your techniques once my broken thumb heals. Hanging lights from a ladder on uneven ground got the best of me.
Wow, this makes collecting fire starting material really easy. One could start a fire with just some ash rotten wood and 2 rocks that spark. How about a video using 2 rocks instead of the steel. You have great videos on fire starting Merry Christmas.
True ! It even makes friction fire so much easier (you place some punk wook in the divit, and it'll start to combust aven before the dust forms an ember)
Most people in the UA-cam world just copy and repeat what others have done some word for word. Some are Perkier than others it seems lately. But few try to get to the science behind some thing and prove that some things are not as hard as people think.👍
Are there file edges on your file striker or are the edges smooth? Thanks. Second question: do you know if punk wood makes a good charcoal for making black powder for muskets? I would think it would be since it burns so readily as a fire starter material. I can’t seem to find anyone in the black powder community that uses it for that purpose. Thanks again.

Merry Christmas, David. Another useful video. Reviving what our elders knew as common knowledge. Thank you.
Merry Christmas!
Joy to the world! Merry Christmas, my friend.
Merry Christmas to you too!

No, I got the flint and steel ignited ashed punkwood from Jumawild. I then saw that ashed paper towel and tissue papers work well too.

Pretty neat, need to give it a try - if I can get a piece dried out enough in Scotland. Thanks for filming, Andy
Go for it!

Please show it in a video. Sometimes you can make the whole fireboard out of it and get an ember.
Well done David 👍 I'll have a try at that one and get back to ya on results 👍🏻 merry Xmas

No, sparks scrape away from a smooth edge better. IDK about the 2nd question.
I live in kodiak alaska, would quartz work
Yes, see the Mohs hardness scale. 7 hardness or higher.
