I had one of these as a kid and it was my absolute favorite vehicle for the G I Joe's I had.

I recently repaired a W.H.A.L.E and it was worth the effort and cost. It’s my favorite toy as a kid who grew up in the mid 70’s and 80’s. I plan on repairing another one after I restore a terribly abused cobra hurricane which I purchased at a yard sale recently.

It is a great vehicle, something we'll probably never see again in our lifetimes. One thing I remember about getting this toy as a child. The sticker sheet was so intense. I remember Christmas morning looking at that sheet of mostly translucent backed labels and referring back and forth to the blueprints to find the locations. It was intense, but definitely one of the most fun GIJoe vehicle builds I had back then.

That's a great story. You can tell when you get a used vehicle if the previous owner was good at following instructions or not :) Thanks for watching.

The KILLER WHALE was probably my favorite BIG vehicle, and the biggest I had, besides the Skystriker & Tomahawk as a kid, with the Tomahawk being high on my list too... I foolishly sold mine off to a buddy several years ago, but recently picked up a mostly complete one again, thankfully!
As a kid, the sled gimmick was lackluster, but had potential. Unfortunately, that canopy popped off almost EVERY time, but I DID NOT want to damage my vehicle by glueing it on. So mostly, I either left Torpedo or Wetsuit on the sled in the WHALE, and would just reach in and slide them out by hand. Was more fun anyway, lol.
Also, I did not care for the goofy little moped either, so when I got my new WHALE, I gave my friend the WHALE I'd been working on putting back together... Yes, gave it to him for FREE... So, then I decided that I really didn't care for the sled either, and gave it AND the moped to him too, which meant he didn't have much to track down already, to complete it.
Sadly, the vanes on BOTH were damaged and/or missing, so we're working on that aspect. I found a small black boat with oars & a motor, to put in the sled bay, and I bought an Adventure Force (Maisto produced) 3 3/4" scale dirt bike to replace the moped, once I paint it to match the WHALE. While it's obviously not a PERFECT fit, it works really well in the spot, and even better IMO because it has rubber tires and spring suspension, with front turning wheel.
I don't really feel like I NEED the original pieces for mine to be how I want it... AND giving those parts to my buddy, in addition to giving him the WHALE, helped him have a more complete and original WHALE, which he's happy about.
I use mine with the 25th/modern era 3 3/4" Joes, even though the foot pegs are useless. I'm very happy to have this vehicle BACK in my collection, so I feel your enthusiasm for putting yours together and fixing it back up.
    Congratulations!

The Whale is such a beautiful centerpiece of a toy. I did what you did: bought an incomplete one, then nearly choked on the eventual total of picking up the rest of the parts! Eventually I got to the point of it being "complete enough".
Your 3D work is jaw-dropping, man. Seriously, top notch pro stuff! Thanks for making these videos, they're always something I show my partner after he gets home from work. I love how you integrate real history of what you review. The footage is amazing! O_O

Cool. I'm glad you like the history parts. I like researching it and finding this stuff out. It's pretty neat how inspired the designers were with real things. I think it added a sense of realism. And cool that you show the videos to your partner. My youngest now loves watching the action figure videos. As always, thanks for watching!

The WHALE is my favorite vehicle. I make reproduction vane sets, sled ramp, missile box arms, and missiles for both standard and night force using color matched injection molded polypropylene. I've been working on an injection mold for the fan shroud. I'd be happy to send you some parts.

    • @ActionRobotPunch

Wow real injection molded parts. That sounds amazing. You can message me at actionrobotpunch at the gmails, of course formated. Injection molding is the end dream of everyone using 3d printers. Thanks.

I would be interested in a couple of your vane sets, for myself and a friend. Our Killer Whales are fairly complete, but the vanes on both vehicles are either half missing or broken. We may be interested in missiles & box arms too, if you can get me prices? I think he's missing a few missiles, and I'm thinking back-ups on those and the box arms wouldn't be a bad idea.🤔
I'd appreciate it, and thanks for your time!

ALSO, for both of you guys, I've recently purchased 3-D printer blue prints for a GI Joe Classified scale Cobra MECH, and I'm trying to find someone who could potentially help me out, on some level, with either paying to have it printed & shipped, or suggestions on the best option for a quality but inexpensive printer of my own, and where to get/how much is the various filament, etc.,. Or work out some kind of trade, as I am allowed by my purchase of the plans, to sell/trade/give them to as many people as I might want to...
Any assistance is appreciated, even if printing them isn't feasibly possible on your ends. I'd still be totally willing to swap blueprints for custom made Joe vehicle parts, if that's of interest.
      Thanks to you both, regardless.

I watched this about a month ago. The next day, I stopped into my local toy shop, one of the guys was cleaning TWO recently acquired Whales, combining them into one decent near-complete set, while the other was to be foddered out. I did point out a few details you mentioned here, like the fragile wind vanes and such.
(And I need to get a resin printer. After I take care of my plates! 🙄)

I think you're right. I'm planning to make one RC so I can take it out on the water (I learned a lot from making an RC Moray). When I do that I'd probably end up painting most of the hull. Should look pretty awesome watching one of these sailing around the river.

It's the only thing that is wrong with my whale everything else is unbroken and functional. Mine is empty. Definitely see if there's a Cobra Frogman hiding inside. I've heard that it was designed into the hull as a battery box because the whale was originally meant to be motorized, but the cost was too great, but they left the mold of the hull unmodified. Thanks for watching.
