I loved the mouth drop when Mitch started singing. That made my day. This was one of those performances you don't forget. I saw it when it was on tv and it still impressed me as much today as ot did then.
“Tippy-top!!” Exactly. As much as I love and adore Let’s Get It On, this is a greater showcase for the entire group. From Scott’s shredding his already abused vocal cords (he had lost his voice during the dress rehearsal earlier that day), to Kevin’s huge range of effects, to Avi’s overtones, to Kirstin’s gorgeous harmonies, to Mitch’s breakout moment (he had solo moments earlier, but this was his spotlight), just everything comes together here.
Avi’s overtone singing blows me away... oh, and the minor 9ths at the beginning! Killin’!
Scott was sick during this performance so it's even more impressive that it sounds as amazing as it does!
He lost his voice which is why the last performances weren’t at this level.
There is a video of people reacting to just Mitch's solo. They had the same look you did just pure AWE!
I am a Pentaholic to the bone but maybe because I'm an older fan (over 40) I absolutely LOVE your reactions 👍You are actually my FAVOURITE reactor because you are real and honest and even if I don't agree on a point, I see where you are coming from and respect your knowledge and opinions.
I don't experience the dissonance I used to, when i love a group or musician but find I don't like one of their songs (when I was young it felt like disloyalty)
I think (maybe) the flack you were getting is from younger people who are not there yet ? It can be hard thinking you're all grown up at 20/25/even 30 yrs old and you know it all and then realising there is SO much more to learn. Even things we thought were "black and white" no shades of grey, (like who you are a fan of, you just love it all🤷♀️) turn out to be not so simple after all 😊
I'm also over 40, and I agree with you.
I still get chills when I watch # 12. Just like I get butterflies with #10.
You can feel the hunger, passion and the unbridled joy. It’s the dream to be surrounded by this.
There’s no doubt- you’re going to go far. Thank you for all that you’ve done for your subscribers!! We appreciate you! ☺️
Watching your physical reaction to this performance was wonderful. A couple of times I felt like you would need someone to remind you to breathe. Watching the growth of PTX during these dozen performances was a total mind-f**k and the arrangement of "Dog Days" was pure perfection from the first note to the last. I was one of the people who watched The Sing Off from the first season to the so-called fifth season. The show started strong with Nota from Puerto Rico and the a capella gospel of Committed taking the first two seasons. You obviously know who won the third and, of course Home Free took the fourth in the most competitive final in the show's history. Both of the other finalist groups, Ten and Vocal Rush, were just as good as Home Free. But the fifth season, reduced to a single night, should not have been attempted. It was like Dr. Frankenstein bringing his monster to life, letting him look around and then turning him back off. Would have been better left dead. And while you do still have "Without You" to come, a very good song and a very good arrangement mind you, it could not have possibly matched the truly phenomenal "Dog Days Are Over."
Going into this song knowing that it was the last one before the final fan voting (the two songs in the "finale" were mere formalities... this was the last one that "counted") they pulled out all the stops, and Mitch had gained enough confidence that they were able to unleash their secret weapon. He'd shined in smaller roles in other songs, but in this one, we started to get a glimpse of the Mitch we've come to know and love.
Did you hear Avi's polyphonic singing in this one?
Oooh - yes! Also on the ET one too - brilliant :D
@@januzzell8631 It sucks that no one ever mentioned it but I guess too many great things were happening and most probably thought it was Kevin's sound effects.
This performance always gives me the goosey bumps! Every. Single. Time.
I really enjoyed your reaction. The way the story goes the producers of the show told them to keep Mitch in the background because he is obviously gay. They decided to f that and go all out on this performance. and you saw the result.
When you said “I feel vindicated” I laughed and made the exact same face you did. 😂😂😂 this is my fav performance of them. I used to have this on my daily playlist.
👋😃Please watch their crowing as WINNERS!! It makes you feel like a proud parent!! Also they were invited back on season 4 to help mentor the last 3 remaining groups including home free. They also gave an AMAZING performance!!...They were again invited to perform their Christmas Medley in season 5...ALL THESE ARE A MUST SEE!#!👏😃
Great reaction!
Here’s another little bit of inspiration that I think is even more impactful than their journey and growth on the Sing-off:
The prize of this competition was a recording contract with a big label. They, as we know, won that contract: However, some people don’t know that they were dropped from that contract shorty after. Instead of quitting and calling it a loss they went to youtube and decided to take matters into their own hands. They kept at it; kept making music, promoting themselves as a group, and putting in the work.
Years later they’re multi-platinum selling recording artists with 3 Grammys, 17 million subscribers, 14+ BILLION views, international tours at sold out venues like Madison Square Garden, and of course, a diehard fan base.
All that to say, it’s incredible what can happen with hard work, persistence, and some clever marketing 😉
I believe this is the performance where that morning Scott had lost his voice and just got it back in time for the show. He belts pretty much the whole performance. You can hear the roughness near the end. Mitch gets the highlight moment and just slays it, since his confidence built throughout the series.. Kevin and Avi just slay their normal way through the song and Kirstie provides the colour throughout. It's why this is the favourite by most: this performance is just fire. If you watch the finale where they announce the winner you'll see just how small Mitch and Kirstie look.
I loved your face when Mitch took off. It was balm to my heart, because I knew what you had been saying.
They are all so amazingly talented. I saw you react to Avi solo and Kevin solo. If you want to see the true talent that is Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying, you need to check out their Superfruit- "Defying Gravity", "Empire Medley", "Feeling Myself", and" Hip Hop goes Broadway parts 1 & 2". Also their Frozen Medley is pretty good too and very funny. Scott's "I Should Tell your Mama On You". OMG he will blow you away. Then another amazing PTX performance, "Aha" Live in Singapore. Mitch and Avi will blow your mind.
Don't forget about Kirstie's solo work as well.....awesome!
I truly enjoyed your reaction of this performance. I watched this performance during their time on the Sing Off and have been a fan ever since. I knew what was coming and watched your face the whole time. I got the same amount of joy from your reaction as I did from their performance. Thank you.
I couldn’t wait to see your reaction to This One!!!! I was 🤣🤣🤣!
I still get emotional on this one!!!
Yes MITCH! & yes you called it!
I appreciate you’re end comments.
“and shut my mouth...” I love you! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I am in love with your love of music.
They slayed that, they're forever going for the jugular! 🤯
I wish I could like this multiple times. 👍🏻
Love you reaction! LOVE your commentary even more. You’re so real and that’s what keeps us coming back for more.
Thank you for all the hard work and energy you put into making these reactions a reality.
Keep sharing and keep the blessings of realness coming!!
I’ve just gotten into ptx in the last year or so, so I’m catching up on all of these older videos and finding out all of the info about it from the comments.
I was so happy for Mitch. I’ve heard that Mitch had been teased about his high voice all through high school, that he was nervous, that the producers wanted Scott to be the male lead on all songs, etc. They got through all of that for Mitch to have this one moment and it was brilliant!! He was their secret weapon all along. I also heard that Scott was sick and had barely any voice left, that their dress rehearsal was a disaster and they were off key, and they thought this was going to be their worst performance and they’d be going home. But every one of them put it all out there.
You can hear that raspiness in Scott’s voice from his illness, especially towards the end. He said that he didn’t think his voice was going to last until the end. He opened his mouth for that last note and was pretty sure that nothing was going to come out. But.in my opinion, that rasp in his voice added to the intensity of the song.
Just AMAZING. ❤ Fantastic reactions 🙌🏼🤩
This was a great reaction. You're always spot on. I'd love to see you review aha from the Starr Vista in Singapore. It's a great live one. Also the evolution of Michael Jackson.
This is the BEST SING-OFF!!!!
I agree with your comments. Thanks for sticking with it. I really enjoy your reactions! Please do more PTX after the Sing Off. This was just the beginning for them. They have given us so much joy, amazement and musical genius in the years following the Sing Off and up until today. I hope you will keep reacting to them now and then. I'll be watching for them!
Loved watching the expressions on your face during this performance!
Love it! This performance has always blown me away. Avi's even doing his overtone singing, which I still can't wrap my head around how someone does that. They were definitely on point, and with each other, in this one.
And you already are a great UA-camr! I love your reactions, and your honesty. Thank you for another great one.
This is my favorite one they did. It was staggering to watch when I watched it the first time as I watched the competition.
Thank you for toughing it out and getting to #12. Their talent, together and solo are just incredible. But Mitch his voice is just another level. To see how they were, to how they are now is so stunning. Pentatonix is truly phenomenal.
This won the show for them. I heard Mitch sing his Dog Days solo live and I was brought to tears.
Your face when Mitch came in!! That was the same look I had 😂. I love this performance.
Your Reaction to this Performance is one of my all time favorites. It was so spot on and you can tell you felt through your facial expressions everything I felt when I first saw it.
Thank you for this video.
Couldn't agree with you more.
It was a pleasure taking this journey with you... thank you ❤
I Have been in Love with PTX since I found this video, And Your reaction reflects the Awe they put me in everytime I hear them. Thank You
Thank you for this great reaction! It was almost like they were holding Mitch aside for just the right moment for him to knock the judges over. You might have noticed, when Kevin starts beat boxing, there is a strange whiring sound - that was Avi doing "overtone singing", where he sings a bass note and also a higher tone above it. I don't think the judges ever knew he was doing it, or at least they never commented on it. He also did it in the first video, Alien, and I believe in a couple of others. It's almost like having a 6th singer. I'm so glad you are doing both of the last two songs. Can't wait to hear what you think about them.
You would love their live performance of Aha! At Singapore Star Vista.
And Superfruit! All of it, lol. But especially their medleys and the Hip Hop goes Broadway vids.
YAAAAAS, this made my day. THIS was the performance I've been waiting on. Dog Days are Over and Let's Get it On performances were the top 2 for me and til this day, I still go back to these 2 for a pick me up. Thank you so much for doing this series, your musical knowledge gave a refreshing perspective and you kept it 💯. On to the next one after rewatching this again of course. 😁💞
Edited to add: Scott had a cold and had lost his voice completely the day before this performance, they were stressed but managed to pull off this performance flawlessly. Avi's overtone singing was incredible and added that extra element. Scott killed the vocals. Mitch got his moment. Kevin was a beast. 5 people with just their voices were able to recreate a song that has a lot going on as mentioned and they stayed true to the original song. IMO, they do best when their movements aren't too much (like the OMG performance they sounded out of breath in certain parts). These days, they focus on the singing, not trying too add to many dance elements, usually just sitting in place which allows for better voice control and focus. Loved your reaction, you were on point with every criticism and I for one appreciate that. People need to stop acting like PTX were during the SingOff what they are now. They have evolved so much and they just keep getting better and better. This video has been added to my Favorite reactions folder 😁💞
I remember watching this on the show and my jaw dropped just like yours.
Wow...I hadn't realized Avi did the overtone singing in this one! And yes, so nice to see Mitch finally get his moment in the spotlight...other than just a note here and there :) And darlin...you already ARE a damned good one!
Knew you'd love this! Thanks for going on this journey with us! Loved every second of it!
Thank you for reacting! You get this...
I think it is possibly the greatest cover of any song ever.
The audience got their first Mitch slap
Thank you for this reaction. It was exciting to watch it with you.
Thank you for explaining why this group are so good ,you have a brilliant knowledge of music !
This performance and the "Without You" performance are my favorites. The "without you" one also has a version where they did it in a parking garage that is soooo heavenly!!!
I’ve really enjoyed watching your discovery during their journey. Thank you for allowing us to join you on this trip.
You definitely need to react to Pentatonix's guest appearance on Home Free's season!!
And react to Scott Hoying - Tell Your Momma On You.
As far as 'shut your mouth' types of performances on tv there are 3 that stand out to me as I think back over the back 20 years. #10 in this series, this performance and Fantasia on American Idol singing Summertime. All three moments that will stick with me forever. So glad you enjoyed this one. :-)
I've loved ur reactions to this, the good, the bad and honest comments.
Wow!....just wow!
Thank you for reacting to their Sing Off run. I would love for your to react to some of their original music as well as their current stuff to see the development.
I got so excited when the notification for this popped up
Been waiting for this one lol. If you want to see an incredible solo performance from Kirstin, check out her Over the Rainbow cover at the dog championships.
love your reaction. I watched PTX on the show years ago and they were and are still awesome!
❤️ love this song / arrangement! I agree they were all on point.
Can’t wait for you to get to more of Avi’s work.
My favourite performance !
I just found you (May 2022) so I don’t know any of the drama of your reactions, but I like you. I like them. I am excited to see all of the PTX performances you’ve reacted to that I haven’t watched yet. I’m excited.
Love that you gave them standing ovation!
Are you a vampire? Yours eyes looks mesmerizing in this reaction 💘 And I'm very grateful that you reacted like I when I first heard that, with is in owe 😅
I would love to see you react to their earlier videos after the Sing Off. Like You da One, End of Time, etc. They had just lost their recording contract and decided to continue on with UA-cam videos and gained their recording contract again. The Sing Off had a very specific formula by singling out a “lead singer” for each group whether the group agreed with that or not. They also censored out Mitch and Scott being gay, which led to Mitch not being as confident with taking lead. I’m glad that you have chosen to push forward and ignore the haters. I’ve followed them since the beginning, (mainly because they were from Texas at the start lol) and I even get facts wrong or don’t know something about them that other fans do know.
Now after it all when ready perfume medley sugar pop at it's best
Thank you so much for staying with it to the end. Way back when you did (I think) episode 1, I commented asking you to watch to the end of the videos because sometimes there's a little backstage talking from the band--and there's one that you don't want to miss. This is the one. The fandom loved seeing Avi cry! Of course, now it's particularly poignant. Thank you for your sensitivity in seeing that the emotion and the words were genuine. That this moment is real, whatever may come later. Even though the same 5 are not currently together, we still have Avi and we still have Pentatonix (Matt is wonderful!). And we still have these incredible 3 minutes of music.
The 12th performance was always my favorite, glad you made it this far :)
I so enjoy your way with words, your frankness and the intelligence and incisiveness of your analysis. Makes your reactions shine above the rest.
Oh yes...what a masterful performance....from all......still gives me chills..
I'm so stoked that you finished it out and geeked out now just as we all then. it's been amazing watching you react to this and seeing where they begin. I cannot wait for you to react to their live version of AHA at the Star Vista Singapore... or their live version of Let's Get It On with Avis sister Esther as the Chair Girl.
Weirdly enough, I have never seen this, so thanks for that first of all. Second, I knew as soon as you scooted back that you were gonna stand up. 🥰😂 Great reaction! Cannot wait to see more Home Free Sing Off Reactions! ❤
It has been so much fun watching you react to these!
Great job , love the reaction and comments. They were there to win!
We told ya. Just wait for Dog Days. Now you know why we love it so damn much. Also did you hear Avi’s throat singing dealio that he was doing towards the beginning of the song.
Excellent reaction as always. An interesting note on this one is that Scott was trying to lose his voice earlier in the day and was really struggling on those last few lines, but he didn't let it stop him! Did you catch Avi's Overtone singing in this at the beginning? It's subtle but that's what gave the synth sound to the base line. There are actually two performances they did next. The 13th performance... well, as I understand it, they could not hear each other for some reason. It hurt because we know how good they are. The 14th performance with Nick Lachey 'I Need Your Love' is definitely better and just a lot of fun. Thank you for going on this journey and always keeping it real! Love your honesty. Edit: Argh! Not 'I Need Your Love' - it was 'Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)'. (Head slap!) I Need Your Love was the song they sang when they came back during Home Free's season. Which is well worth watching too. Sorry for confusion.
Yes yes yes it is here. Love your reaction. I was dissapointed that the judge did not say anything about avi singing overtone here. Thank you ❤
I always enjoy watching ur face when ur feeling it!👏🏻💕🙏🏻✌🏼
Keep the faith 😊 Thanks for your reactions for Pentatonix Sing Off.
I love your reactions and your honesty and knowledge
You are by far one of the best reactors around in my opinion. I honestly can't even get through half of a video from some reactors because of the way that they run their reactions. (Not that there is anything wrong with them, just not what I want in a reaction and so I will spend my time watching those that I like instead of those I don't) I love that you actually are educated in your assessments and I feel like we hear the same things (both good and bad) in a video, which is great! Thanks for pushing through the stupid trolls and finishing these reactions for those of us who really enjoy them!
haha love your reaction to Mitch and Scott's solos
My favorite ❤️
I was watching your expression when they first started the "march" down the stage. What you were hearing was Avi's overtone singing where he does two notes at once. In the original televised version, Ben Folds actually mentions it. Unfortunately, he comment was cut at some point. Scott talked months later about the growl in his voice for this ... it wasn't put on for the performance. He barely had any voice left by the time they got to this song. The 10th performance pretty much guaranteed they'd be in the finals and this one sealed the deal. For those who say, don't do #13 ... go ahead. It was definitely not their best performance. They were tired, their voices were rough, and the mic balance was off horribly. However, they also do a final performance with Nick Lachey where they redeem themselves. Plus, you get to hear Kirstie's wonderful vocals in Spanish. Then, if you're also inclined, watch the winner announcement.
My guy, I did not mean to dislike this video. Subscribed to make amends.
Standing O...M...G!!!! Another great reaction brother. Thank you :)
Did you notice Avi did his dual notes throat singing. That is a trick that very few people can actually do.
When you finish the sing off you should react to superfruit reacting to their sing off performances. It's hilarious to see what they think of their performances
You know I love how your talking serious and then you crack a playful smile 😁😁 keep up the good work and all the best
I still think the Marvin Gaye performances is the best. This one is great, but Let's Get It On had more of an emotional impact on me.
Their song with Nick and #13 is the last of the complete songs. A partial performance of eye if the tiger ends the series.
This has always been my favorite performance and so few ever mention it. For me my favorites run 12, 11, 10. Yet 10 is the one that tends to get the attention. New subscriber here - been watching a little dramasydetv marathon on number 20 or so.
Yeah. And you get Avi's overtones in this one. I love how they build.. And yep. See we told ya LOL
Grand - loved it
You seemed genuinely surprised while they were doing that about how good it actually was. At least the look on your face said that.
And now you see why almost everyone lists this as their favorite performance. They held nothing back!
Love Lock Down is still my favorite by them, but this is an amazing performance, I agree it is where they became stars. 13 is a great finale, they kill it. In fact I'd add watch them do the holiday episodes and shit in the following years, they never disappoint.
You know things were serious when Avi pulled out the overtone singing in the beginning and then Mitch having his moment. It's when they learned that putting the spotlight on different members over the course of the song makes PTX stronger.
i love watching your videos, keep it up, your awesome
In my humble opinion Video Killed The Radio Star and Let's Get It On are the performances that won this competition.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed your reactions and I share the same feelings about a lot of the performances as you. There will always be the people out there offended for some reason. I liked watching you react and knowing Shawn would end up saying exactly what you said. PTX is amazing and I’m glad you got to experience their start as I did
