For another $200 you can get a Garmin Xero. At least that has a rangefinder built into it. Point being there will never be a pin based sight that merits a $700 price tag (for me). Never. Very refreshing to have an honest and objective review like this. You have my bow.

I appreciate the honesty of your review. A lot of people were complaining about the auto shut off so I’m guessing that’s why it’s gone. Their 4 minute timer really wasn’t ideal
Thank you for your honest review. That brake issue is unforgivable. From a product manager perspective, designing something that has such an ultra limited customer base is not in the best interest of the company. That's the reason for the price. Limited sales requires higher margins, especially when being split amongst two companies.
Actually I bet they could sell the sights at a loss with their bows since the sights are only compatible with their bows and it would make it seem like a deal, good marketing ploy.
@@pik2490 Very convenient lol. They should give you the option to have it lock down then ... I got an axcel landslyde for my hunting bow and its been an amazing sight. Easy…there’s 2 middle men before even getting it to you. Mathews is just like the new pickup truck industry. I’m a solid middle class and I’m priced out of both markets.
Finally an honest review. I bought the UV Slider 1.0 last January and don’t see this as a major upgrade. And it cost $100 more. Either way the real gripe I have with UV is in most low light you have to use the lights which is a major distraction when hunting. I’m prolly going back to the Black Gold Hunter that costs about 225.
While I agree 100% the price is NUTS.. There is a timer shut off. This thing is VERY light weight. Its the only sight without a big offset. It moves on purpose, its an override while hunting, its not going to move by accident.
Chris Beewax said he thought they wouldn’t get it out in time. I see why. Btw way Jack it does turn itself off when the battery drains flat. “I think I might have a lemon maybe” oh it’s a lemon, by design😂
Happy to see someone else thinks it's overpriced. All other reviews glaze right over the cost like it's totally acceptable. Thanks for the honest reviews you do Nate.
Great review, what happens to the price when the new tariffs come in next year? I'm assuming built in the US isn't the same as made in the US. Built seems to me to be assembled in the US from parts made where? Just an expensive product marketed very well through influencers.
Looks like they fixed the windage detents in the Dual Dial. Mine doesn't have a positive click like this new version. They got rid of the offset on the bar and put the sight in front of the riser. I wonder if they adjusted the windage range to compensate. It doesn't look like it has very much adjustment if you need to move it towards the riser.
Love the no timer on the light. Nothing worse than sitting in the stand fearing the light might turn off right after drawing the bow. Slider moving when locked is designed feature. So you can ”override” the lock in a hurry.
It’s supposed to be able to move with the brake on. It brakes enough to keep it from moving. I don’t know how that is your biggest gripe. It’s specially made for a Mathew’s bow. I’m sure just having the Mathew’s name on it jacked the price up. Just like the QAD rest that is made for it. I think it’s well built and thought out. I like how light and compact it is and how streamlined it is with the bow. If your buying this sight you have already most likely spent thousands of dollars on a new Lift. What’s a couple hundred more dollars for a sight that fits the bow better than anything else? How many of the people complaining actually have a bow this will actually work on?
The definition of paying for the names, no doubt a quality product but you can literally buy a Garmin sight that ranges for you for that kind of money lol love the honesty in the review
Nate, thanks for the honest review. Obviously, you have not drunk the kool-aid in regard to the Mathews product line. My main problem with their product is the cost of all the accessories.
I have never once looked into a sight over $300 so I know nothing.... But it seems to me the brake could be so that the sight won't move on you accidentally, but still able to move out from 30 to 37 yards with without extra movement when a deer is in front of you...?
I am a huge Mathews fan. I do own and have owned several Mathews products. Never owned a UV product. Without a doubt both companies produce high quality products. That said I am with you. This sight is way overpriced for what you get. As for the lock… I believe that they designed it to NOT fully lock. They wanted the user to be able to roll it in lock position, in the heat of the moment. As always I love your videos. Keep them coming!!!
Thanks for an honest review Nate, the original UV slider is overpriced and this just ups the ante even more. Archery is becoming a wealthy man's pursuit, not sure how long the more affordable brands will stay that way if this trend continues
I agree somewhat but there's still lots of good midpriced gear out there. I think the issue is seeing these social media influencers upgrading their bows every year and using the most expensive gear for everything. Brands put top dollar gear in these guys hands and it gives the rest of us the false impression that it is all standard equipment. The influencers act like reviewers/enthusiasts but they're just vehicles for product placements. Ignore the marketing. If you want to splurge occasionally fine, but focus on the mid priced stuff that offers quality and good value.... that's where 99% of us lived before social media got taken over by marketing executives and unscrupulous influencers that have us believing we need to be constantly buying expensive shit to be happy.
Excellent review! I'm not even sure this sight is legal in states that do not allow artificial light? Since this light is integrated and you cannot remove it, this wouldn't be legal in CO, ID and few other states.
It sounds like this manufacturer was deliberately just trying to make as much money as possible on the sales and not putting that money into the product. I couldn’t agree more.
What is that doing for you that an HHA or MBG or Axcel won’t? Mathews has solid products but their accessory costs are out of line. Im sure they’ll find someone to purchase it.
Tac shooters that think they are john dudley... that is the new UV market and it seems to be working for them I guess. I agree with you 100% though, Axcel runs the show in the world of sights. For hunting MBG and HHA are also fantastic.
I agree with 99% of everything you said. Only issue is the lock. They have clearly stated it’s over-rideable and a feature of the sight. If you like or want that feature is a persons preference but to say it’s a lemon or broken when it’s specifically made that way is incorrect. With that said as nice as it looks $700 + change is stupid. Yes I get it’s a nice sight, it’s made well, it’s Mathews branded and it’s a quality precision piece of equipment from a company we know likes to charge a lot for things. But putting lipstick on a pig does not make it human. I’m seriously looking at the axcel driver. Has all the features and has every bow mounting option right away. That sight is $500 too so I guess I’ll never be a rich man.
Agree it’s overpriced. I do run the UV Slider only because I was able to get it new from my dealer for $479. I’ll probably try the Axel Driver when it hits the shelves.
Funny people complained the axcel sight was too much...so what did Mathews do? Made it more expensive! People complaining bows are too much...so Mathews raised the price... Mathews accessories are too much....so they made them more expensive!
The "brake" is just exactly what it is doing for you. That has been the case since the original UV slider came out. It just keeps you from being able to bump it and get messed up. I dont kmow why they do that. But it was intentional. The light not shutting off and the plastic tapes are BS. Although my black gold was $400 and has plastic site tapes as well.
UV is making entry into hunting seem like it’s way too expensive of a sport to begin. There needs to be an influencer that normalizes shooting the same bow for 5-6 years, with a good old fashioned fixed TruGlo sight from Walmart and some .006 arrows. What I heard three 18-19 year olds discussing while buying some UV arrows the other day absolutely blew my mind.
It looks like a top quality site but man that price is getting up there! I guess if the original UV Slider is $600 they figured add another $100. Maybe skip the fancy case and keep it at $600. I'll stick with my HHA even though it doesn't have 1st axis adjustment. Even MFJJ called them out on the cost.
The paper sight tapes are the reason I won’t switch to the Ultraview. I absolutely hate paper sight tapes. I’ve bought CBE sights the last couple times because they have metal sight tapes.
Ultraview bust out another 300 the sight is literally more then half the new Mathews Supposedly you can move it with the brake on that way if you are in a hurry and need to make a quick adjustment you can just dial its stiffer
You are not a Mathews fanboy and light freak so You do not justify the cost and I totally understand that. In fact I do not see the justification of the upgrade from old one to new one only to get it lighter and USB light, but I use the "old" UV slider and I love it but I started to feef benefits of it only when I got a "promotion" deal and bought the sight and additional mount. Now I got standard mount on my aluminium bow (older one) and pic mount for the carbon bow. Got 2 sight tapes for each of them for 3dfield and hunting setups. I see some benefits on such multiple bow setup to split the costs with single sight, 2 mounts and multiple pin cartiges. Without that the standard price of just single sight with single cartrige, there are cheaper and good alike options on the market.
It’s obvious they have dropped the ball on this one. In at least FOUR ways. I have an old Apex with better features than this thing and still use every hunting season. Guessing they won’t be letting you sell their products in your shop after such an honest and revealing video. 👍👍
@@averagejackarchery Good to know. I'm using the Option Canyon pounder. It's expensive also but man, it's an engineering marvel. Definitely worth $600 and probably the last sight I'll ever buy.
Not a fan of anything ultraview anymore. Used the original BeeReal grip when they first released but since then their products have been very overpriced in my opinion. From their arrows, to their thumb release and now this sight. Just way better options out there for less money

Kinda hammering them for the wrong stuff. The knob is supposed to move with the brake on. That's how it's designed. It just adds tension. And I'd prefer stickers over metal.
It is built so you can override the brake. Everyone is free to choose the sight they want to use. I don't mind your negativity on the sight and or the price. From my perspective, a better video review would be a side to side comparison of the $200 sights and the top end sights (not just the Mathews UV slider). This sight is not for everyone or the "Average Jack Archer". No hate, just saying.
Ive seen multiple reviews of this today and youre the first person I've heard call it like you see it, and that is incredibly refreshing.

It’s $400 for the packaging and $300 for the sight. Is it aluminum or polymer?
It is machined aluminum.
The price is crazy but some will buy it
It’s obvious they have dropped the ball on this one. In at least FOUR ways. I have an old Apex with better features than this thing and still use every hunting season. Guessing they won’t be letting you sell their products in your shop after such an honest and revealing video. 👍👍
Yeaaa imma keep my Garmin
I am agreeing with you Nate. Some of this new so called technology is bogus.
this sight is worth about $250 at best. Please tell me it isn't made out of Chineesiam!
It's PrEmiUm
I don't know any company that provides a full array of metal sight tapes. Usually you figure out which one you need and order it.
CBE and Redline both have metal sight tapes on their high end hunting sights. All $300 or less.
@@averagejackarchery Good to know. I'm using the Option Canyon pounder. It's expensive also but man, it's an engineering marvel. Definitely worth $600 and probably the last sight I'll ever buy.
That's not true I got a full set of metal sight tapes with my CBE engage hybrid and I got 12 side tapes with my Excel landslide
@@timothycardinal9193 It's not true that I don't know of any?
B3 provides them as well as the others mentioned.
wait no laser range finder??? LOL
Plenty of sights for far less money with similar features. At some point we as consumers have to reject these absorbent prices.
Not a fan of anything ultraview anymore. Used the original BeeReal grip when they first released but since then their products have been very overpriced in my opinion. From their arrows, to their thumb release and now this sight. Just way better options out there for less money
Overpriced sight not worth the money I agree with this video.
Absolutely ridiculous price. Bow hunting is getting like Mountain biking and fly fishing where it's full of Dentist and Doctors with these dam prices
Great review. I don’t think they are going to be around much longer
Yeah mathews probably had this technology last year... every year something to keep people buying a brand new bow.
@@250zxSkeeter That’s just business like anything else. Have you bought a new ‘69 body style Chevrolet lately?
I would never pay that much for any sight. That is just ridiculous 😮
You could probably get a fully loaded vertix off eBay for $700 😂
Honestly. Thank you. This has turned into a cash grab. I'm a doctor and like to spend money on my hobbies BUT there is a limit. This is the male equivalent of a 800 dollar hair dryer from dyson. Why? It is not a cut or step above. I'm really thinking about jumping on the hoyt wagon this year. Matthes needs to correct their ship because I think it's bonkers
The sight is 200 the box is 500 bucks
Wtf 😂😂 guys that use the word build all the time will buy these 🤡🤡🤡🤡
I'm returning my uv.. they are really showing what they are all about. Marketing, not products
Am I being punk'd? A $700 sight!!!! But think about it... $440 for 12 arrows... yup, makes sense to someone
Says the guy that bought the Gen1 UV Slider. This new one is much better than the Gen1.
Kinda hammering them for the wrong stuff. The knob is supposed to move with the brake on. That's how it's designed. It just adds tension. And I'd prefer stickers over metal.
Agree, the only thing you can really knock them on is the price. It would be nice to have an adjustable vertical 3 pin as well.
No hate, just saying.
ludicrous
honestly, this bullshit price has me not even considering a matthews bow this year, ill stick to my elite e32 and used montana black gold slider
