    Great video. We have enjoyed the entire season! Our crew here in Oregon doesn't call them "clusters" we call them "nests". Although, the term "honker" is universal on both sides of the 49th parallel. Thanks for all of the great content. Please keep it up!

      Great to hear it! Good luck this season in Oregon. "Nests" eh...I like it. Haha! Going to need to add the term "honkers" to the mushroom books ;) Lots more vids to come!

    I followed the insane CA Sierra Nevada snow fall this winter, 700in/17m at Mammoth Lake... Did that weather come as far north as BC? Curious if this season will be a bit late?
    I know you don't have service when your out picking but you do get to town sometimes selling fresh? Would be awesome if you could post some real time shorts in 2023. Thx for sharing, always amazing!

    • @northernwildharvest
      @northernwildharvest  Рік тому +1

      Not sure if that snowfall reached BC, but we always have a thick snow pack in many parts of the province. Season start for burn morels will all depend on the weather over the next month, but the high elevation areas will probably be delayed a bit with this cold start to the spring.
      You're right regarding service being an issue, but I will at the very least try to do some real time community tab posts with photos as well as on instagram when doing town runs. Cheers!

    Awesome morels :) I always forget to ask if you have ticks there.

    • @northernwildharvest
      @northernwildharvest  Рік тому +1

      Yes we do. Often tick nests in the horizontal growing junipers. It’s a constant concern for us.

      @@northernwildharvest They are a big concern here too. I'm using a repelent designed to be applied on clothes and it seems to be working quite well, but nothing is 100%.

    • @northernwildharvest
      @northernwildharvest  Рік тому

      I also spray my clothes, especially the back of the shirt collar. The biggest nuisance we have here are mosquitoes and black flies - they keep you moving fast 😅

    • @LukesMushrooms
      @LukesMushrooms Рік тому

      @@northernwildharvest I understand. Here we also have deer keds which are not very harmful but there are so many that it's extremely annoying to be in the forest and do something else than removing them from your skin or clothes :)

    Do you ever run across and harvest other tyoes of mushrooms?
    Is there a danger of overharvesting?
    Also wondering - do you have a own a permit for a sector of land or is it a free for all, first come first serve situation? do need a license since it's commercial operation and not a subsistance type of harvesting?

    • @northernwildharvest
      @northernwildharvest  Рік тому +8

      We harvest other types of mushrooms throughout the year, rarely in burns though. We are leaving a substantial amount behind, I'm just only filming the good parts - a single mature morel will release billions of spore, and amazingly morels can self germinate underground without even fruiting. When done correctly, wild mushroom harvesting is very sustainable. In our chanterelle and pine mushroom patches we have actually watched the patch expand to areas that didn't previously have mushroom, by spreading the spore around ourselves.
      Some areas require permits, this burn included, which we had. Provincial parks are off limits to all harvesting. Settlement and private land is also off limits unless you have permission. We happened be friends with some of the few locals in the area, as well as a few members of the skeetchestn first nation.

      @@northernwildharvest Fascinating. Have loved seeing the process, mobile camp set up and seeing the different kinds of morels. Reminds me of my younger life at a remote fishing lodge in SE Alaska.

    • @northernwildharvest
      @northernwildharvest  Рік тому +2

      @@skybluepink998 Glad you’ve enjoyed our vids! I bet you had quite an experience in Alaska at that time in your life. To elaborate a bit, the morels are the fruiting body of the organism, although different than plants it is sort of comparable to harvesting apples from an orchard - you wouldn’t worry about it killing the trees when harvesting correctly. For this reason it’s quite different than the concerns of over harvesting things that remove the organism itself, such as fish or many plants. Still important to know the ethics and how to be sustainable, or even beneficial though!

    It's kind of disappointing you never did a pick and cook. Maybe your burnout of eating them, or you just chase the almighty dollar. Sad

    • @northernwildharvest
      @northernwildharvest  Рік тому +9

      We did cook them in one of our videos (the one with the firepit thumbnail.) We had someone on our crew who is allergic to them, which is why we weren’t cooking them as often - out of respect. Personally they are my favourite mushroom, I eat them all the time at home. If you’re interested, we have a video coming that will show how we rehydrate and cook them at home though.

    • @ADKflyguy

      Dennis, everyone has to chase the almighty dollar in one way or another. There are many sadder ways to do so, also easier ways. I will say my favorite videos are the ones showcasing camp meals. I would push that in my thumbnail, I think it would help with the algorithms. This channel should have more traffic.
