- Google, Microsoft, and Amazon are teaming up with Big Oil to squeeze more oil and gas out of the ground using machine learning technology.
Join the Open Sourced Reporting Network: www.vox.com/opensourcednetwork
Google, Microsoft, and Amazon have been very vocal about their efforts to reduce the world's dependence on fossil fuels. But as The Wall Street Journal and Gizmodo have reported, these same companies are currently teaming up with fossil fuel industry to help them squeeze as much oil and gas out of the ground as possible.
Oil has always been hard to find and hard to extract, and so the industry has teetered precariously on the edge of profitability several times over the course of its history. Over and over again, experts have predicted that we'll soon run out of accessible, affordable oil - but so far, they've been wrong. Just when things look bleakest for black gold, new technology swoops in to keep the industry afloat.

Dennis Pietrandrea To save money, cut down on electricity, utilities, trips to the grocery store, use outside sunlight to light rooms. Get a cellphone battery charger that plugs into the wall and an extra battery. Clear storage on cellphones by going to apps, then touch an app and then touch storage below that. Then clear data. Do that on ALL apps. Then look at your storage bar. It'll come down. Touch Chrome then the 3 verticle dot's and then history and remove trash from sites not needed. Everytime you look up something, it goes into your history. Too much storage causes your phone to be slow or act up. Try a restart or reboot. To eliminate virus messages, maybe try a restart or reboot. Delete old phone calls. Delete unnecessary apps. Remove unused apps you installed like Amazon or a bank app. It uses up storage.

I was gonna say that we export so much petroleum and natural gas, why don't we keep it at home for energy independence... BUT some reading has shown me that we're not quite yet at energy independence.
Still, I'd rather our most brilliant minds work on increasing the viability of nuclear and solar+battery storage, while local governments work on modernizing their cityscapes and public transportation systems.
So for now... perhaps what Google and Amazon are doing isn't too bad. I place more fault with the automotive industry for lobbying against public transportation just to keep consumers dependent on gasoline and cars.
@@Edd1148. To be clear, I have no issue with the development of Petroleum & derivatives. It's the moral posturing. I live in Canada and just about every foreign entity / NGO / union is trying to shut down development and production for the sake of their investments in US refining infrastructure.
The vehicles, the socks, and oil wells were made by workers, who will suffer because of the actions of Google and Amazon, particularly their directorial boards/major stockholders.
