As one of the main competitive players using this weapon in the western scene I was really excited to see this video. Heres a few points I do want to correct. 0:31 damage is delt based of pellets, in the center all land dealing more damage, the farther away you are the less damage pellets deal as well. 2 hit is more up close or 2 direct hits, at minimum range direct does 90, at max range it does 54. 3:15 Brella still has amazingly good 1v1s vs shooters and pairing which is what makes it worth using over other short range shooters or tri. 3:33 Both tenta and sorella undercover see competitive use, more map/mode dependent but tenta shield and sorellas paint+kit allows them both to have niches. 4:14 An important point to mention would be shield damage allowing you to kill weaker opponents which can work from the 90 hit, you did point this out later. 4:30 500HP is misleading, almost everything in the game has multipliers making it deal more or less damage to the brella shield. 9:10 Special charge not as much, its not really made for storm farming thats more zimi/squelchers thing a little bit is ok. Ink saver main should be pointed there as about necessary instead. If you want a full competitive guide I made one here you can take a look at for much more in depth details: twitter.com/The_One_spl/status/1011037400674418688
Yeah, I'm a brella main and there is some misconception in the video. Just one tip to others reading - do NOT stand behind a teammate with your brella open! Bombs will explode immediately on contact with the brella, so it's a very easy way to literally kill your teammate. Instead, stand in front of them with the canopy open if you want to tank bomb damage.
Here's advice for Salmon Run, actually! Brellas outside of Undercover are amazing at crowd control, and I highly recommend shield launching them into lesser salmonid hordes to watch the canopy mow them down like tall grass!
insertjokehere You don't have to worry as much about ink consumption with the tenta brella as you will be launching the sheild and can recover ink before the next brella launch also the tenta brella just works better for me but if you think the splat roller is better for glowflies then I'm fine with that this is just an opinion
soooo... the brella is amazing at 1v1s and is a strong counter to most shooters, due to its strong damage output and defense with proper spacing and aim. there are a few weapons it struggles with however, such as the octobrush. ink storm can easily make your shots 1 hit kill and so it is usually best to stay inside it. bomb rush is better for applying direct pressure or for modes like rainmaker. the brella is a weapon with huge potential once you can master switching between firing and shielding and finding its best damage range. aim is key, as it can kill very easily when used correctly. as a brella main, these are just a few tips and stuff I've learned from my experience with the weapon.
5:48 from my experience no one knows that's a thing and they end up walking into it themselves thinking they'll go through it I recommend bomb defense up, some people will try to get you by throwing a bomb behind you while you have the brella open expecting you to leave. But if you survive the blast they're in for a surprise.
Right, they actually underestimate how much damage that bounce really is. Sometimes it's actually completely legitimate (with the regular Splat Brella) to just mow people down and bully them into running to a different point where you can readjust the chess game of opening your Brella. My friends actually hated when I'd bully them with it. xD
I remember using a Brella to distract someone, the quick distant shots allowed me to swim through enemy ink filled territory and I caught someone's attention and I caused him to chase me around in circles. When he found out my trick and caught me and before he could even splat me, he was immediately splatted from behind by a teammate who used the ink I left behind to get there.
I love how people are finally recognizing how great your channel is now! I love your stuff so please keep it up. My life has now boiled down to checking when the next How To vid is.
so basically Mr. Grizz gave some kids a shotgun and said "There's some live targets, kids. have fun, Bring me what's left, and *DON'T* tell your parents."
@@CEO_of_gaming tbh it was always good, people are just deterred from the slow fire rate. The brella now is weaker compared to what it is before cuz of the ink efficiency and shield nerfs, though still strong.
Sprinklers are pretty good on maps with ceilings and tall overhangs (mako mart, goby arena, starfish mainstage, walleye warehouse, etc.) so that nobody can see it. It's quite useful on splat zones as long as nobody uses ink storm in the general direction of the sprinkler. Sprinkler can also be used to distract enemies into destroying it, giving you time to escape.
i love brellas, im always fond of a shotty and its shield lets me take a breather and let my teammate finish instead of me dying and them getting the kill either way
*Fun fact:* The tenta brella recovers its brella faster than a splat brella. Specifically, the Splat Brella has a recovery time of 7.25 seconds, while the Tenta brella only requires 6 seconds to recover. Also, the Tenta Brella's lifespan is 7 seconds, while the splat brella only lasts 6 seconds. Also also, Tenta brella has a 2-second deploy time, 1 second shorter than a splat brella. Couple those with the fact that the Tenta brella is wider *and* can take more hits AND has a longer range (4 lines instead of 3 in weapon testing range) *AND* can one splat KO in close range (closer than 2 lines in the weapon testing range) , I think which brella you should consider using. Not the undercover brella for sure. *TL;DR: Splat and Tenta brella stats:* *+Splat brella:* *-Deploy time: 3 seconds* *-Lifespan: 6 seconds* *-Recovery time: 7.25 seconds* *-Range: 3 lines (weapon testing range)* *-Can't even one hit KO at point-blank range* *+Tenta brella:* *-Deploy time: 2 seconds* *-Lifespan: 7 seconds* *-Recovery time: 6 seconds* *-Range: 4 lines (weapon testing range)* *-One hit KO under 2 lines (weapon testing range)* One last thing, both brellas consume the same amount of ink to open and launch (You regain your sub faster with the splat brella because it has sprinkler as a sub, but the tenta brella has squid beakon for sub) There, that's my homework, finished.
Hey Capt Astronaunt There is one little thing, I think you forgot to add your Dualie Squelcher vid to the How to Use playlist. Also, great vids! Your How to Use series give me a lot of easy time in to understanding these weapons better as I try them out :)
I was not fooled by completing all of Hero Mode. At the end of July 2017, I had every level completed with the Hero Brella, save for number 14, Parking Garage. Before completing that level, I checked Splatoon Wiki to make sure Hero Brella was out, and it wasn't. I waited until the day the Splat Brella-and Hero Brella Replica-were released, THEN got back to Octo Canyon.
As an S+ 6 Brella player, always run object shredder with either of the bomb abilities in rain maker. It allows the sprinkler to work on the shield while you and your team can more easily focus on the enemies popping or advancing on the shield. I personally use sub saver so I can have more ink for engagements, but sub power can break the shield faster but leaves less ink in the tank
I really like it when I just walk into the enemy with the brella open and see the enemy trying to break it, then I splat them with the brella. It's great
Maxwell Why do i need a surname this is so rude I can't stand the squiffer, personally. Although I feel like a short range sniper is redundant, that's why I like the E-Liter
The Sorella Tenta Brella is pretty good on splat zones. When you equip some ink saver sub (ink recovery up helps too), it becomes a powerful defensive weapon that doubles as a wall hazard spawner. The icing on the cake is the curling bomb launcher, which provides an even more forceful way to cover the splat zone. Seriously, don't forget that the tenta brella covers a significant amount of turf as it slides forward, and you don't have to follow it all the time.
The brella's shield has saved me from a charger more times than I can count, plus it actually tanked a fully charged hydra, albeit when it was on full health.
But the sprinkler is garbage now after the 3.0.0 update. And the tenta brella is support heavy while the undercover is offensive. The normal brella is a mix of the two. Especially its different kits Sorella=offensive(Yes actual offensive) Vanilla=support/defensive But both are actually good turfers. Loved your video Btw I main all brellas (I know what i and you are trying to say) Still great job. Keep it up.
Huntyr Lyons I main undercover brella and I’ve found that even if the shield only had 200 hp and most weapons destroy it in a few hits, people are scared of it xD. If they come at me, I open my shield in their face and fire one full shot, which does 55 damage total, then they get scared and try to back away, but usually you have enough reach to finish them off xD
3:33 I use the undercover brella and I find it very helpful with the firerate and the light shield that doesn't come off, it is the only weapon I'm superfresh with and I get top of the team and usually the most kills
My favorite memory of the Brella is this round of Rainmaker. It was on the Camp map, and the enemy was trying to go on one of the narrow sidelines. What they did was they used the Bubble special and kept making it go up so they could easily approach. And so one of my teammates went around, and hit them with a burst bomb. Meanwhile what I did was open the canopy, and walk through the bubbles. I got a four squid kill without firing a single gosh dang shot. I just trampled them like a roller, but had defense against the bubbles.
Cool Scrub I don’t get why people see it as a huge task it’s just something to chip away at every half an hour at least that’s what I did with the octobrush the brella I did over 2days
The splat brella is a very offensive weapon in the right hands! Nice video. But something you didn't mention is the brella has a huge flaw in ink recovery. The brella isn't like most weapons, when you shoot you have a few seconds that you can't recover ink. So you really want to watch your ink.
I use Undercover Sorella (picked it just cuz I wanted to learn Brella and liked the kit) for zones and rainmaker, it's hard to use but it's fun. Nobody expects you to be standing and shooting when you were in the radius of a rainmaker blast. I find it handy to roll up around the teammate holding the rainmaker, and it gets some good inking while shooting at opponents. I also get a lot of players expecting to kill me but I change into a baller and rek their shit. I hope they eventually introduce (in Splatoon 3 maybe) more Brella variants. I just hate the kits on all of them except Undercover Sorella.
you can shoot and immediately put your shield up, resetting the release timer which is something not a lot of people realize, like you did with that baller at 4:40
5:02 that's true, when i play tenta brella, it's either keep shooting or launch canopy and shoot, never close an opened canopy unless the adversary suddenly disappears.
standard brella is good for offence when in the ink storm. a good shot can oneshot because of the damage the storm gives them. Also 1v1's are the brella's time to shine since getting a good first shot, opening the brella, and then dodging to a side to deal the final shot works every time as long as the shots are well placed
Brella is a great weapon once you master certain aspects of it. Mainly combos with shield and shots, and matchups. You will find with the brella that shielding after every shot is more reliable for getting kills than firing a few times before shielding. It might be predictable, but besides the 52 gal, there aren't many counters to brella shot -> shield. Most opponents will realise this and try to get behind you. But the 52 gal's accuracy and slow firing speed is usually what would bring it down in 1v1's with brellas. The main problem I had with brellas at first was dealing with sloshers, and the waves that they sloshed as they can sometimes go over or through your shield. However, if you close the distance between you and the slosher, you will find that this becomes less of an issue.
when you open your canopy, many people will try to strafe around you to find an opening. If you can react fast enough, you can land a kill while they swim around you.
The sprinkler can be a distraction because they will instinctually shoot at it it you throw it at them so you can get closer to get more damage and even kill them with the canopy after dealing 90 damage with a shot.
He didn't even talk about how UTTERLY FANTASTIC the splat brella is at tower control! Need to cap that tower just a little longer? The brella has got you covered, quite literally. And to increase your time more, close your brella before it flies off and then instantly open it again. It'll buy you more time and maybe even kill the oponent if you hit them well enough. People tend to move rather predictably when approaching the tower, making that two shot kill a cinch, and anyone that comes up on the tower often gets killed by the main shot and one bump of the brella Because of how limited the space is. And if they don't die, they just get shoved off the tower, buying you even more valuable time. A sprinkler on the tower gets you tons of turf so you can then use the inkstorm to provide a damaging cloud over the tower's path. if your tired of teammates not capping the tower, *this* is the weapon for you. Just make sure you don't let the canopy break, but if you get as good as me, that shouldn't be a problem. Marie once said that my canopy got broken around .2 times every match
I prefer the undecover brella even if it isn't that good, I just find it fun to use. Also you get a like for using Eurobeat, sun in the rain was a great choice.
My personal favorite stats for Tenta Brella (Support in mind): All Special Up, and Sub Power Up because “beakons+Sub Power Up” is basically quick super jump. It’s only good in ranked and if people... -Actually Hide begins your shield for a push -Don’t pop your bubbles as soon as they see them. -Actually use your beakons Even at S rank they’re this unknowing.
They really should have made it where the brella can protect you from ink storm at the cost of not being able to attack. Would've been really cool (If you hold the trigger under ink storm maybe the umbrella would be raised to the skye and drizzle your color ink on the inside so you can walk around?)
"..it feels like a chess match but just for you."
Brilliant.
Spencer Schmidt i'm a brella type user and....
TBH it's true
But if the Splat Brella is good enough then the person going against them is the one playing chess
It makes Splatoon a lot more fun for Brella mains like myself, although I admit the increased difficulty.

I just hate the kits on all of them except Undercover Sorella.
you can shoot and immediately put your shield up, resetting the release timer which is something not a lot of people realize, like you did with that baller at 4:40
Who’s worse: people who superjump in the middle of a battle or people who don’t hide when you superjump to them?
KineticCat people who super jump to someone who's getting murdered
5:02 that's true, when i play tenta brella, it's either keep shooting or launch canopy and shoot, never close an opened canopy unless the adversary suddenly disappears.
standard brella is good for offence when in the ink storm. a good shot can oneshot because of the damage the storm gives them. Also 1v1's are the brella's time to shine since getting a good first shot, opening the brella, and then dodging to a side to deal the final shot works every time as long as the shots are well placed
when you put sprinklers in a high place

YOU PREDICTED THE BALLPOINT PEN
The montage make me wanna watch the smash documentary yet again thanks captain
I love the sorella brella because you can press forward and still defend yourself at the same time. It is amazing for Rainmaker and Clam Blitz.
Super jumping can actually help you get back into the battle more efficiently, so it’s not all that bad
8:55 what's next? a heater? a ballpoint pen? wait... a ballpoint splatling
when you open your canopy, many people will try to strafe around you to find an opening. If you can react fast enough, you can land a kill while they swim around you.
A Brella player is “I’m not afraid of anything! ...except for blasters and sloshers”
9:40 - 12:50 love your taste in music
Top 10 sprinkler throws
its simple
*manners, maketh, man*
The brella should be immune to rain
The sprinkler can be a distraction because they will instinctually shoot at it it you throw it at them so you can get closer to get more damage and even kill them with the canopy after dealing 90 damage with a shot.
You should do a guide for the E-Liter
Also as an E-Liter main I love when enemies super jump thinking it's safe and I just shoot them when they land
The new Splatoon 2 weapon, a Air Conditioner roller.
Marie once said that my canopy got broken around .2 times every match
i love when in rainmaker i use the detective brella and i follow the rainmaker and block da shots! it's fun u should try
Now you have made a video for every weapon I use in the game thanks
I feel like I'm the only person that likes the Undercover Brella. Instant brella opening, N I C E.
I prefer the undecover brella even if it isn't that good, I just find it fun to use. Also you get a like for using Eurobeat, sun in the rain was a great choice.
Undercover brella is amazing. Its like ink armor you get back when you kill someone.
Honestly this guy too good to get such little attention fr
Subscribed. 😂🤣 love your quirk!
Really good video love the the edits and info
My personal favorite stats for Tenta Brella (Support in mind):
All Special Up, and Sub Power Up because “beakons+Sub Power Up” is basically quick super jump. It’s only good in ranked and if people...
-Actually Hide begins your shield for a push
-Don’t pop your bubbles as soon as they see them.
-Actually use your beakons
Even at S rank they’re this unknowing.
"stop super jumping"
*plays a clip of him superjumping right after*
k
I realy like the background music of this video
They really should have made it where the brella can protect you from ink storm at the cost of not being able to attack. Would've been really cool
(If you hold the trigger under ink storm maybe the umbrella would be raised to the skye and drizzle your color ink on the inside so you can walk around?)
When I first went into battle with the brella, I got...*13 kills. I'm not kidding.*
Thus tutorials are soo good for new players and old players what want to know new weapons to use. Continue with this, it help me whith the dynamo
