Next 2 videos will be How To Sheldon's Picks (which hopefully be done before the end of the month but knowing me, who knows), and, finally, the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Review, which, I mentioned in my overly long 10K sub Q+A, will be a multi-part video series talking about all 3 Xenoblade games. Please Understand: It will take a while for me to finish it, and I don't want to start uploading parts until the entire series is mostly done, so you may not see too many more videos from me for a while until that is done. However, even if you haven't played the game(s), I still wrote it for an audience of people that have possibly never seen or heard of the games.
I'm working on making the Explosher my new main and these are my tips from what I've learned so far: MOBILITY! I run at least one, usually two, Swim Speed Ups. Explosher excels when you hit the perfect sweet spot where the enemy is at the edge of your range. You can kill them before they can get their bearings and go after you. To do this right, you need good map control and need to constantly be moving. You won't even notice the ink consumption nerf because you'll always be refilling ink while you reposition. (no really. I don't run ink saver at all. BLASPHEMY I KNOW) BE THE PUPPET MASTER! Focus on map control and situational awareness. Be the one who knows where every enemy is. Even if you only get one hit in, the enemy is now stuck in a huge pile of your ink. If you have a teammate nearby, they'll swoop in and finish them off if you're too slow to do it yourself. Don't moan about your weaknesses. Play to your strengths. Bonus tip: Want to practice, but don't want to do it in Turf Wars, but also don't want to murder your rank? Find a weapon you're still comfortable with that has burst bomb (other bombs could work too) as its sub. Try to get as many kills as you can with only your sub. It's all about the parabolas, baby.
0:55 ik this has nothing to do with the explosher but like wtf went wrong here??? Why is his mouth so big?? Who at the localization team thought this was even remotely passable?? Why couldn’t they hire someone with actual voice acting experience for their main character?? I just-
The explosher is extremely hard to play but if you practice a lot it's one of the best weapons. Also it got nerved because it destroyed the japanese meta
I think extremely hard to play is an understatement but as someone who put a lot of time on the base exsplosher, I can agree that it has massive potential.
@@cindrblok7948 eh honestly once you got a feel for explo it isn't that hard mostly the skill ceiling is just really high and at first you can just spam paint and win lmao
Pro Tip: THE FLYING XPLOSHER If you can, try to stay on an ink line and slosh from it. you may shoot slower but you will be extremely hard to hit and have greater range!
Revisiting this almost 2 years later as an explo main, there are a few things I'd like to add: -SWIM SPEED: the explosher is best when it can use its lack of charge to quickly adapt to the enemy's position, either by moving to safety from a charger (your #1 enemy aside from flankers and inkjet) or moving to a position that allows you to give massive pressure towards enemies. As a heavy weapon, its base speed is almost impossible to do this with, so you need at least a main or two of swim speed. Also, the explosher should always be jumping out of the ink, firing, then going back into the ink, as firing from the ground has less range, the same accuracy, and makes you practically a sitting duck. Modes: Everyone knows Exsplosher is best in zones, but after that it's best in Clams. Tower is very hit or miss as it's a great tower rider, but defending a tower push is very difficult for the backline bucket. Rainmaker is actually the opposite problem, where it's not bad on defense but it's bad on offense, especially because it struggles to apply RM pop pressure whereas chargers and splatlings are great at that. -The two Exploshers being equal in strength is not exactly true, for a very interesting reason: the explosher requires a bunch of abilities (ISM, Swim Speed, a bit of bomb def/QSJ/QR, maybe even a little mpu or special charge up) to really bring out its potential, and V. Explosh adds Special Power Up to the cramped list as a neccesity, so no matter what you always have to give up something in order to make Vexsplosh's kit work. Playstyle: Exsplosh works best when paying very close attention to your team composition, position, and using the map to determine enemy positions. In addition to just painting and reacting to enemies on your lonesome, try to add pressure to 1v1s between your allies and your opponents, that 35 damage comes in clutch in these situations, as usually that's more or less the difference between winning and losing a duel. Some notable weapons that work well with explosh are the OG sloshers, which has 70 damage directs, and blasters as their indirects will really add up with the explosh. OG blaster/ranged blaster indirects are even 65 damage, an exact kill when paired with an explo indirect. Not to mention that the explosher covers up these weapons' paint deficiencies well. The explosh also needs some form of aggressive team comp, in order to keep flankers at bay and pressure chargers such that the explo has a much easier time. An example of a decent explosher comp would be Cexplosh/Nzap85/Ttek or Kshot, which the last slot being a midline that can deal with Inkjets well like kpro or maybe even a good slosher or blaster. Maps: One of the biggest keys to the explosher's success is to pick maps that actually work with the weapon's strengths. Even in zones, maps with large swaths of open area or turf you can't swim in (Shellendorf and Moray come to mind) or a large amount of grates in key areas (albacore, manta maria, and especially kelp dome) an explo struggles on. Basically, if chargers excel on a map and there's limited cover for an explosher to use to approach and pressure a charger from, it's likely a bad explo maps. Humpback Pumptrack and Triggerfish Zones are excellent maps for explosher, as the angles on humpback add a lot of natural cover, and triggerfish has the big sign and the wall near spawn to use to remain safe from chargers. Lastly, for anyone wanting to take up the explosher, I recommend practicing with splat bombs on a weapon like splat JR or Kpro, and getting really good at knowing all the different arcs you can through them. I was able to get really good at explosher arcs because my first x rank climb was with kpro in tower control, where mastering the arc and flexibility of the splat bomb really came in clutch. Once you know exactly which angles shoot which distance/height, you can put more focus into shooting where people are/will be instead of just shooting and praying, if that makes any sense. I hope this long-winded dissertation on the explosher helps anyone, and please feel free to add on anything you think I missed or was a bit inaccurate on. I'm not the best explosh player out there, so there's bound to be some inaccuracies here ^^

Some Nerd I think Nintendo Nerf the Custom Version a little bit more than the regular because the points for special for the Custom gotten a nerf (200p to 210p) and the Custom’s sub weapon gotten a nerf (the point sensor effect on the player doesn’t last as long as it used to be) BUT the sub weapon (point sensor) gotten a buff as well where you can throw two point sensors without ink saver sub (because it used to use up 55% of your ink tank but now can only take up 45% of your ink tank) which I think it’s fair I guess
@@SuperTeddyBearBros Due to Explosher getting more ink consumption per slosh I think it makes sense that point sensor was lowered because otherwise the Explosher would be too ink heavy to really use the sub.
Lol it’s pretty dead right now after ANOTHER nerf, removing some of its painting power which was the main selling point against the killing power of chargers and splatlings. :/
The best way to play this weapon is to basically use it like a bomb launcher that lasts the whole match and you don't have unlimited ink, but as a backline. Hang back from a distance so you can see everything that's going on, block people's paths, and get some kills from people that aren't expecting it. They don't usually have a ton of time to react. It's a great weapon for taking out people that are camping with either kit (moreso with the custom) and is probably one of the best users of point sensors. When you use this weapon, it can be hard to win back mid if they get into your base, but it will be even harder for them to win mid if you effectively start a push for your teammates by picking off your foes from a distance, taking out chunks of their health, and constantly letting your allies know where the enemy is with point sensors. I'm not usually a fan of backline weapons, but I was enamored by the explosher the first few matches I used it in and now it's one of my mains. Completely underrated for zones, I've yet to use it in any other mode other than turf.
tip: since the explosher is incredibly slow, practise your prediction in the left side of the training room. i went against an explosher who had amazing prediction, and boy were they good. *ok this is 7 months later nvm ignore this my tips suck.*
I would've like to think that you're joking when you were saying explosh is the worst slosher, because it's quite the opposite. While not as strong as it was before, Explosh is still an amazing weapon that has always been in the high and even top tiers. It's not the best in rain or tower, it's goldly power in zones was the reason why it got such a heavy nerf. Teams use double anchor with an Explosh in zones just because of how amazing it is at painting and locking down areas. Explosh is the second best slosher in the game rn. Tri and Blob have been in the lower tiers for a while, and machine has fallen out after the nerfs, as the main weapon was carrying the problems with each kit. Slosh deco is the best slosher atm as it does have the advantage of being great in every mode, rather than Explosh being good in clams and amazing at zones.
And it isn't that bad in rainmaker and tower control. The rainmaker is extremely to dodge so you can kill it easily. In tower control they will often be on a single small platform so you could get a lot of kills with 3 indirects, if they're all indirect.
>"If you're outnumbered at close range you can make like a level 10 Cleric in 5e and rely on Divine Intervention to solve all your problems" I have never appreciated and laughed at a 5e joke so hard. thank you, Captain Astronaut, for making my day.
The Explosher is unholy in Japanese high-level splat zones and turf war, so the nerf is justified overseas but maybe not here. Also, I didn’t forget about ARMS because one of my mother’s “friend”’s kids stole the fucking cartridge and I have been trying for so long to get it back.
Oh yea, explosher wasn't broken, but before the patch it was very very effective at painting. The nerfs reduced its god like ability to maintain map control. Vanilla got bubbles quick (I swear I could do Zones by my lonesome with the pre-nerf explosher), and the amount of painting it could do pre-nerf was oppressive, like it was scary. Sprinkler, bubbles, and the main weapon were a god send for map control. You can not approach me if I keep painting in front of you...
this is the video that made me decide i was going to main this weapon after having used it for a while, and it's still my main and by far most used weapon and my undisputed favorite. thanks man :)
There is one tip I can say for fighting snipers and such: you typically want to get the first slosh to hit. That way, the anchor is pretty much forced to retreat. If they don’t retreat, they are stuck in your ink and vulnerable to get splatted. And if they hide behind a wall, don’t forget that you can still get them because you are a slosher and that is what sloshers do, get opponents behind walls
Super TeddyBear Bros actually, it works pretty well on maps like piranha pit tower control or zones. The area to the left of the zone/tower is typically where anchors are on piranha pit.And if they decide to hide behind the wall after getting hit, it tends to splat them
theoretically you could jump down from a high ledge onto someone while firing at them and then activate baller and ram them( you can do contact damage before the baller fully activates), if you get a direct with the explosher shot it would be just enough to get a kill, the whole manoeuvre would take about a second
I would argue against the Dragon type analogy, but I understand what you're saying and honestly your content is too damn hilarious for me to be picky. Great work, Captain. Keep at it. Maybe do the Grim Range Blaster next?
Another suggestion, since it is a backline/anchor you should have on at least one sub of Quick Super Jump to get out of there quick instead of trying to fight close range.
I've developed a strategy for using the Custom Explosher that seems to work pretty well. I use Ink Saver (Sub) which allows you to throw two point sensors with a full tank of ink. I throw a lot of point sensors from a safe distance so my teammates can more easily take the enemy out. Now, you wind up throwing a lot less shots as a result, but this usually makes it easier to hit opponents because they are less likely to know where you are. Stealth really helps with the Explosher because if they charge at you it's hard to fend them off up close. And the Baller special is great for Splat Zones because it allows you to quickly retake the zone.
I tested around with the Explosher, and it turns out that the balls it throws pierce through enemies, so it functions like some sort of budget Rainmaker
I once played with someone spamming this way the entire match. We almost won a 3vs4 besides that, but we still lost points for losing. It was s+ 4 idk why people do this...
Explosher use to be better. Until they nerfed it into the ground. I was unaware they nerfed it. Went to go play a few matches with it, and was like WTF happened?
Basically, the explosher is a siege weapon. While your other Frontline combatants are drawing the attention, you hide from a reasonable distance or behind an obstacle and just rain damage upon the turf. You can't always see the turf your inking, but seeing the bar of splat zones shift or seeing the kill/assist icon means your disrupting the plans of everyone else
4:42 Yeah turf war does assign teams randomly. I got a team with 3 chargers and a hero shot against 2 dualies, a Splattershot, and a roller. Me and another charger didn’t have sting ray either (and it was on Kelp Dome, the worst charger map don’t @ me). I hate this game
on my second channel called ‘Super Teddybear Bros 2’ I made a montage of my missed out Splatfest with some cool non copyright music and most of the footage is me using the Explosher (the Regular one) and second thanks for making this vid! 👍
I personally use a lot of main power up- it’s cuz when you throw ink, there will always be gaps in the line it makes, but by using main power up it doesn’t have that so you can just swim through it without any trouble :)
to do the 90 damage somewhat consistently if you go above your target and aim at them from above. the main hit will hit them then the splash will hit them doing the full 90 damage
The smash comparison segment would have worked better with the explosher being jigglypuff, since is pretty much its exact equivalent, Also, lol that smash comparison
A tip from an anchor explosher player? Its best to attack from above. The reason for this is you can easily land a 90 damage hit. If the enemy is by a wall, target them let the direct hit them. After the first hit the splash from the wall hits the rest. Also from above the floor will offer the blast damage after a direct hit.
16:25 - Blatantly not through the bubbles at all, that sniper had a clear line of sight the entire time... Nothing can shoot through bubbles except a stingray.
The 6:55 pic has it all wrong. The trajectory of the Explosher is not like a half circle or even a parabola, it's a lot more similar to the shooters: a direct line forward, and a curved downfall. Test it in practice mode, you'll fire for four lines of distance despite the angle you fire from.
Next 2 videos will be How To Sheldon's Picks (which hopefully be done before the end of the month but knowing me, who knows),

how to throw, while thinking you helped the team.
I literally checked yesterday to see if you had a guide on this weapon! Good timing!
a lot of pros are still considering explosher but mostly custom a high / top tier weapon still :)
Some Nerd I think Nintendo Nerf the Custom Version a little bit more than the regular because the points for special for the Custom gotten a nerf
(200p to 210p)
and the Custom’s sub weapon gotten a nerf
(the point sensor effect on the player doesn’t last as long as it used to be)
BUT the sub weapon (point sensor) gotten a buff as well where you can throw two point sensors without ink saver sub
(because it used to use up 55% of your ink tank but now can only take up 45% of your ink tank) which I think it’s fair I guess
Inksane Luke its not dead, just look at the league leaderboards, its still used at high level
@@shyguy6662 I use it and I am rank b
Yes I'm that kind of player
Explosher is Nintendo's answer to asking for a miniature rainmaker weapon.
Your videos are hilarious! Gotta love your editing, especially your choice of music
I got the first ad of the video before the Blob was done falling
Aight so, the Explosher must be OP on Port Mackerel. I mean, all of those narrow walkways? An anchor player's dream! :O
You can use the sprinkler to punish jumps btw. It was nerfed because it’s paint output was INSANE
True! 👏
Also why have a burst bomb rush if you can get infinite "somethingsimilartoburstbombs" in a wepon?
And it isn't that bad in rainmaker and tower control. The rainmaker is extremely to dodge so you can kill it easily. In tower control they will often be on a single small platform so you could get a lot of kills with 3 indirects, if they're all indirect.
8:12: The video becomes a Vaporwave Aesthetic video. Appropriate. Also, great quality overall! The channel deserves more subs!
Your music choices are top tier!
When I first played Splatoon 2 and bought the Explosher, I had never heard of it before and it seemed no one ever used it. But now, I can see why.
Astronaut: talks about how Match making works in Splatoon
Me: gets paired with all shooters and duelies against all chargers...
The explosher, also known as "Nintendo please _what did I do to deserve this"_
I came here not to learn how to play this weapon.
*instead I came for your jokes*
That's good enough for me!!
>"If you're outnumbered at close range you can make like a level 10 Cleric in 5e and rely on Divine Intervention to solve all your problems"
I have never appreciated and laughed at a 5e joke so hard.
thank you, Captain Astronaut, for making my day.
I'm always glad when people can appreciate my D&D references :)
@@CaptainAstronaut yep. Another thing you can do is make like a squishy wizard and use baller like shield.
asthma: the bane of innocent men
The Explosher is unholy in Japanese high-level splat zones and turf war, so the nerf is justified overseas but maybe not here.
“It’s like getting stabbed and writing the name of your killer in your blood.”
HMMMM REMINDS ME OF SOMETHING 11037
There is one tip I can say for fighting snipers and such: you typically want to get the first slosh to hit. That way, the anchor is pretty much forced to retreat. If they don’t retreat, they are stuck in your ink and vulnerable to get splatted. And if they hide behind a wall, don’t forget that you can still get them because you are a slosher and that is what sloshers do, get opponents behind walls
Christian Soriano only for the Sloshing machine and the Explosher because of the parshel hit box
Super TeddyBear Bros actually, it works pretty well on maps like piranha pit tower control or zones. The area to the left of the zone/tower is typically where anchors are on piranha pit.And if they decide to hide behind the wall after getting hit, it tends to splat them
I was just watching your vids so this is a pleasant surprise
theoretically you could jump down from a high ledge onto someone while firing at them and then activate baller and ram them( you can do contact damage before the baller fully activates), if you get a direct with the explosher shot it would be just enough to get a kill, the whole manoeuvre would take about a second
"You can't aim where they are, you have to aim where they're going to be"
So basically, all explosher mains are masters of the uncertainty principle?
yes :))

@Sean Ramos Somebody do a hack to make it that set
I would argue against the Dragon type analogy, but I understand what you're saying and honestly your content is too damn hilarious for me to be picky. Great work, Captain. Keep at it. Maybe do the Grim Range Blaster next?
Wait,is ink flammable?if it is then how is the explosher not broken yet?
yet another great and entertaining video, dude!!
Waaaaaaait. Explosher IS a heater. That means... You're throwing BOILING LIQUID at your enemies.
Another suggestion, since it is a backline/anchor you should have on at least one sub of Quick Super Jump to get out of there quick instead of trying to fight close range.
Damn that ad that played right before the explosher's shot finally hit
16:40 reminded me of Danganronpa with 11037
"This weapon suffers from zero fall off damage" makes it sound like fall off is a good thing, and that the explosher suffers from not having it lmao
as a roy main in melee the comparison to melee characters and sloshers was P E R F E C T
Great job on video... I didn't even watch yet, but I have faith
Hahaha you snapping with R Kelly clip 😂
This was uploaded right when my battery died.
Plantimaters Same here lol
Not same here
sorry just being random 😑
One of my favorite weapons. This was helpful knowledge and funny as well. Great video :)
When I first watched this I didn’t realize when it cut to an add at the beginning of the episode and expected to hear another woosh during the add
I love ur channel keep up the work dude you are the best splatuber
As a dynamo roller, this weapon is fast
Keep it up man!
4:42
Yeah turf war does assign teams randomly. I got a team with 3 chargers and a hero shot against 2 dualies, a Splattershot, and a roller. Me and another charger didn’t have sting ray either (and it was on Kelp Dome, the worst charger map don’t @ me). I hate this game
I really like this weapon! Its best on Zones and Tower Control on the climbing wall and train bridge maps.
This is like the best weapon to deal with the Fly-Fish in Salmon Run.
If every slosher in the world disappeared you will die
on my second channel called ‘Super Teddybear Bros 2’
I made a montage of my missed out Splatfest with some cool non copyright music
and most of the footage is me using the Explosher (the Regular one)
and second thanks for making this vid! 👍
I personally use a lot of main power up- it’s cuz when you throw ink, there will always be gaps in the line it makes, but by using main power up it doesn’t have that so you can just swim through it without any trouble :)
4:19 yeah...snipers don't keep turf in your color. Nice april fools but its kinda late.
4.5 also nerfed the brellas shields, which made me sad.
to do the 90 damage somewhat consistently if you go above your target and aim at them from above. the main hit will hit them then the splash will hit them doing the full 90 damage
The smash comparison segment would have worked better with the explosher being jigglypuff, since is pretty much its exact equivalent,
Also, lol that smash comparison
Astronaut playing exploded: “ Ah shit! Here we go again.”
happy 2 year anniversary for this video!
11:26 "Scary Gary"
Aaaaahhhh, Hunter’s Chance fits in so perfectly. Used to be my alarm clock.
Press F to pay respects to what used to be a very fun weapon to kite dualie scrubs
might pick up the explosher 👀 thanks for the video
Played the slosher for a bit during ranked Clam Blitz and my blood pressure lowered tremendously. I also wasn't screaming as much.
16:25 - Blatantly not through the bubbles at all, that sniper had a clear line of sight the entire time... Nothing can shoot through bubbles except a stingray.
You said the teams are balanced
I’m against four chargers
That clam blitz comeback was clean
YESS MORE CAPTAIN ASTRONAUT!!
I am awsome with the explosher, I just have some mpu swim speed and main ink is all you need
Can you do the splash-o-matic next?
Rainmaker or the explosher
I’d prefer rainmaker it’s more quick and one hits fully charged
is it okay to give up at 10 seconds left when the enemy is 1 point away and they’re all using their specials at the same time
No
