On the brink of turning 30, a promising theater composer navigates love, friendship and the pressure to create something great before time runs out.
“this is not the story of his death, this is the story of his life.”
that made me emotional and i’m so grateful that these amazing people have brought him back into the spotlight, tick tick boom is truly amazing
This musical made me want to hear more from Jon...and I don't even really like musicals. I saw Rent in the movie theater and immediately bought the soundtrack.
I'm currently searching for "Superbia" or any performance of it.
Andrew Garfield is a talented actor. He needs more Oscar Awards. As he once said about Tom Holland, "an amazing actor", I could say the same about him.
I want LMM to resurrect "Superbia" and basically revise/edit/finish it. I think a modern audience would actually get it.
Superbia is a euphemism for Rent
@@anitabuis-mikyska7739 No it’s the musical he wrote for 8 years lmfao
i’d love to see that!
I read another comment that said Superbia went through so many re-writes when Jonathan was alive that it would be a mammoth task to try to finish it the way Jonathan would have wanted. Apparently people tried years ago but it went nowhere.
In saying that.. i’m sure that if anyone could do it.. LMM could 🥰👍🏼
I prefer to see Superbia get made as a film so it could reach a wider audience. Just like Tick, Tick... Boom!
This movie is a love letter to Jonathan Larson, Broadway and an ode to the creative process
Andrew gets his oscar ❤️
THANK YOU Jonathan Larson!
This is definitly the most inspiring movie I have ever seen, because this is the history that lights your heart and impressed your mind, this storie arrives to my soul because Johnattan Larson is inspiring! And I am so thanful for have seen this movie that shows us the storie of this brilliant and unique, really unqiue artist. ⭐
I literally got chills after watching this
I knew I was going to cry if I watched this video
Very into the “40/20” on Lin’s hat @3:01 which I’m assuming was the production code name
Thanks Lin Manuel Miranda
Hey Spider Man fans - looking for Andrew Garfield? He's here and he's amazing!!
“He sang about the fear of turning 30, but he never reached 40” ok I am EMOTIONAL
I’m so happy Andrew Garfield is finally getting the recognition he deserves. I feel like people mostly know him from Spider-Man, but he’s so talented in so many ways.
I belong to the least people then. Oh Gosh all these super hero movies, they are such a waste!! And people need to watch actors in these movies to recognise them? That's so sad.. Actors should refuse the super hero garbage and play any other type of films and audience please wake up and watch normal movies please!!! Give a try also to non Hollywood and international films!!!!
@@ΜαρίαΣτρατάκη-γ4λ Yes I do agree with this, but these actors are still showing they’re great skills in the super hero movies. If you watch Andrew in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 his acting is absolutely amazing.
@@starcollision3407 I haven't watched a super hero movie for ages. I find them extremely boring with all these special effects but I am sure Andrew was great there. He is an amazing actor anyway. I think I will give it a try and watch one of his Spider Man then if he is so good there. Merry Christmas 🌲⛄!!!
@@ΜαρίαΣτρατάκη-γ4λ Merry Christmas! God bless!
@@ΜαρίαΣτρατάκη-γ4λ nope
I think what’s inspiring to me about Tick Tick Boom and Jon’s story in general is that it doesn’t have to just apply to artists. Anyone with a dream or aspiration that feels like the world is telling them to give up on can find hope from Jon’s story
Beautifully said!
That's the reason I cried during the movie. I've been told that I have to be a certain age to chase my dream; choosing a more "realistic" career to sustain a decent livelihood. Jonathan Larson’s story resonate with me so much on not giving up on what we love mostly / what makes us happy.
Or musical theatre geeks who consider the magic of theatre as keeping them stable in hard times
What breaks my heart is that Jonathan was obsessed with his age and felt like he was running out of time and he died so young, like in a way he was right :(
probably because he knew he had an illness that no one would take seriously and try to diagnose.
He was a self fullfilled prophecy
I'm 29 and i never had a part time employment and love musicals and family. I want stability more than anything right now.
As a struggling artists, I can really connect to the life of Jonathan. There's so much sacrifice you have to make, to make your dream come true. Also taught me alot about consequences and decisions. Andrew nailed this too. Hope this film gets alot of acknowledgement and hopefully an Oscar for Andrew.
Nobody :
Absolutely no one :
Lin manual Miranda : legacy
Saw this movie in a theatre near me, and WOW, Andrew is so amazing!! Literally wanting to go see it again, but it's only less then a week on Netflix!!!
I'm going for the 3rd time today. (I always do for musicals). Its so so good
Just watched it. Now been searching more about J L
@@reachforitj8888 Same!!
I think Jonathan Larson would be very proud.
This movie is literally the greatest thing I have seen in YEARS. Lin-Manuel and Jonathan Larson are a match made in heaven, and I am so glad I am alive to experience it ❤️
Great film and Andrew Garfield was fantastic! Gonna be very honest here, I never heard of Jon Larson. I’m so happy that this film introduced me to him. Now I can honor his legacy. Thank you for this gem!
Is there anything negative that could be said about this film? Lin’s storytelling of Jonathan Larson is inspiring and heartfelt. Andrew Garfield’s portrayal was amazing. Every voice perfectly sang all of this amazing music that a new generation can now appreciate. Thank you, Jonathan Larson for your incredible musical genius and thank you, Lin Manuel Miranda for sharing his story with us in such a beautiful way.
I've been a fan of Lin since In the Heights. That was before i became a Rent Head
Glad I watched this after the movie because I never knew about Jonathan's life before and it hit really hard in the end learning that the ticking clock can be so literal. It really makes me want to do something with my life after watching.
I'm a 29 year old musical theatre geek who only has done volunteer but never part time or full time work. I want stability in my life right now more than ever.
This film is so criminally underrated and Andrew Garfield's performance should've won him several awards
I am so excited to see tick tick boom. Only a few more days. The music is amazing and Andrew Garfield is wonderful. Go get them lin.
this movie is gonna be my favourite movie of all time when it comes out
I'm excited for you to see it. I luckily had a theater near me play it.
Thank you, Jonathan Larson ❤️❤️
It's made me a little sad, the last few years, that more and more young theater kids seem to not necessarily have the same connection to RENT as I and other millennials did growing up, but it genuinely cannot be overstated, the degree to which Jonathan changed the entire landscape of musical theater. And it makes me aaaall kinds of emotional that Lin, who has basically taken up the mantel of being the Jonathan Larson of this generation, was the one to take the helm in telling his story with all the grace and love it deserved :')
(And Andrew could not have embodied him more perfectly either! SUCH an incredible performance)
I'm 29 and i didn't see Rent until a couple years ago. In high school, i didn't feel ready to embrace and see for myself what made it a modern classic. Before then, one song from the show i already loved was Seasons of Love.
I LOVED tick, tick, BOOM! It's wonderful.
Andrew captured Jonathan so well, that it felt like he never died. I was moved to tears seeing Tick..tick..boom.
This is like the Best month Netflix as ever had they Gave us the Harder they Fall Red Notice , passing and Now this wonderful movie ( I'm sure it's going to be Wonderful even though I haven't watched it yet ) Tick Tick Boom All I can say is Thank You Netflix you have me as a Customer for Life !
I cannot believe they made this into a movie. Holy hell my dreams have come true.
My passion project musical of 8 years has its first production next week and this movie couldn’t have come at a better time for me. Larson is a hero of mine and I was weeping for hours after the credits rolled. Truly a love letter to art and artists, a bit of magic in a culture that has lost all appreciation for creativity.
I hope your work soars and wish you a long successful future ahead as a musical theatre geek.
I've heard nothing but great things about this film. Can't wait to watch it!
I saw it in theaters on Saturday. It’s so good I cannot recommend it enough. One of the best movie musicals I’ve ever seen
It’s incredible!! I’ve been telling everyone I know to watch it! It’s even better if you are a fan of Rent too 🤗. Lots of nice Easter eggs in there :)
Here i am and it's a good movie
ever since I've ever heard about Jonathan Larson I can't stop thinking about how he had this huge fear that he was running out of time and he was right. we lost him way too soon 💔
the doctors who gaslighted him about his illness can go to hell for sure. but honestly, in a way, that struggle and inner fire definitely helped him create the magic he did.
i dont even like rent music that much. "season of love" is good. however the tragedy of Jonathan Larsen is very compelling. find inspiration in his determination as an artist. RIP.
I love Rent
The music is so energetic
The movie is beautiful and Andrew is all kinds of WOW.
can we talk about how the top rated movies said to compete in the oscars are mostly musical inpired? i mean, in the heights, west side story, tick tick boom,
Wow Lin accomplished that. As a aspiring actor this movie spoke to me deeply. It made me want to pursue my dream even harder. Thank you all for this unbelievable film ❤
This movie would have resonated me the same way if it existed back when i was in high school. But i would rather just be a musical theatre geek I've been since i was in middle school.
" this is not the story of his death, this is the story of his life.” I have not seen the movie yet, but I certainly hope it gets the word out about Marfan's Syndrome and it might actually save a few lives
Oh wow I didn’t know he had Marfan’s - they don’t touch on it in the film but ig that’s because it was undiagnosed
Thank You Jonathan Larson
This movie was enough to make a grown man cry
AHHHHH THIS LOOKS SO GREAT
Come to your senses could be the This is me if it is promoted as a single. One of the best from the movie
RELEASE THE SONG RECORDING AND DANCE REHEARSAL BEHIND THE SCENES PLEASE IM BEGGING
Well... now we all know who's act Bo Burnham ripped off !!!
I love rent the song take me or leave me is everything and now lin miranda and Andrew, I didn't know Jonathan didn't get to know how iconic rent is
yeah he famously died the night before the first preview. very very sad. in some ways the myth of his death was a big part of Rent's mystique and allure early on. Just so tragic but poetic in regard to the "running out of time" urgency of that piece, and also a huge part of what's explored in tick...tick...boom!
Bruh isnt the director the guy that used to rap in the electric company lmao
Yes.
He was on the Electric Company?
@@marquis911 Not as any of the main character but yeah, I think he was on a lot of kids shows.
Jonathan Larson is LOVE!!!
andrew i love u... u were FRIKIN INCREDIBLE IN THIS... SO PROUD OF U
#thankyoujonathanlarson
With great power, comes great responsibility
Here i am nine months later and it took me this long to watch the movie. And I've been a fan of Andrew since ASM duology
Well, nothing deeper so as I have got a hangover after watching #SpiderManNoWayHome and yeah I fall in tears when I saw #Andrew_Garfield the hero of my childhood...
I bursted into tears and thanks to Marvel to reintroduce him again.
It really got me into I just can't describe my feelings. I wish I could meet him once in my lifetime then I would be the most fortunate person in the world.
Yeah he really gives me inspiration and when I was small I even promised to myself that I would become like him one day. But it didn't happen at all.
Initially, in childhood I was very much influenced by his character but now I am fond of his real personality as I saw many of his other interviews.
They all mesmerized me because he is still simple, not too much talkative and glorious. I know there is no chance to meet him because I am not from so rich family and yeah of course I know the way we feel for the other person is never reached but why there are so confusions.
I wish I would spend atleast few seconds with andrew garfield in real life and would realise him in actual.
Wish this request of me reaches to God and he full fill it.
Thank you
Saurabh Singh
Love from India
I wish the video included the names of the members of the creative team and what their roles are 🙏
I love your videos they make me feel like it's my videos
Ended up being inlove with this film, I'm so sure J. Larson is very happy right now!
Me too
I literally just got done watching the movie over an hour ago. God i can't believe it took me nine months to do it. The movie is beautifully intimate, compelling, gripping and bittersweet. Andrew has got strong vocals! As a 29 year old musical theatre geek, Seasons of Love was one of the first showtunes i already loved before seeing the musical it came from. It took me until the 20th Anniversary Tour that i finally considered myself a Rent Head. Back in high school, i didn't feel ready to understand and embrace what made Rent a modern musical classic. And I've been a Lin stan since the original stage version of In the Heights. His direction is masterful for his first time behind the camera. Larson would be proud to see how his work changed the American musical forever.
I wish my brother had had seen Rent. He committed suicide in 1980. He wrote in his note he was questioning his sexuality. The world was a different place where people were “in the closet.” He wrote he didn’t know if he would accepted for his identity. Scott has gone 42 years now and I still miss him. Jonathon Larson and his play Rent opened my mind to love is love. Jonathon had passed by the time I saw Rent. His message continues to bring awareness to the world. I was so excited to see Tick Tick Boom coming out. I watched it yesterday and was overjoyed and saddened because of my brother. Thank you Jonathon Larson.
I'm sorry for your loss. I have a brother too who is gay and he came out of the closet before we graduated high school together. It took me a while to accept his sexuality. He saw Rent a while before i had the chance. I did not feel ready to see what makes Rent a modern classic.
Andrew you are amazing, worth watching every second
0:34 what an inspiration Jon was to Lin 🤧🔥
andrew you are really amazing
a brilliant and heart breaking film
this movie was absolutely beautiful
It was a beautiful movie. It made me reevaluate a lot of things. ♥️

If Andrew doesn’t win best actor for this and Spider Man I will actually sue the Oscars

Lin. I am a young writer and... this movie. This person. and, pretty much everyone involved in the movie - I LOVE. I ADORE. I cannot stop thinking about this and about living my dream and pushing it further.
I love this film!
I LOVE this film so much, but why is the thumbnail edited to look like Lin is sitting on Andrew's lap?
“People on stage who’ve never been in a Broadway play before, queer people” hate to brake it to you Steven, that’s literally the only types people who’ve been on Broadway
Shut up!!!!!!!!!!! Really!!!!! They are making a bio on John!!!!!! Omg
Amazing movie

So excited to see it on Netflix Friday
Andrew Garfield! Thats it. Thats the comment. Lol
I have Marfan Syndrome which Larson died from but this gives me so much inspiration!

Andrew Garfield deserves the Oscar
RIP JONATHAN LARSON 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
I am completely in love with this film!!
I’m sold.
Hi
A O E
It was an amazing movie❤❤❤
My first Broadway play was Rent and I was blown away how good it was. So this moving was superb and ultra entertaining
My first show was Wicked and it took me a long time afterwards to see Rent.
Peliculotaaaaaaaa 💎🥺
I cannot wait to see this movie!! I saw Tick Tick Boom twice at the Pegasus Players Theatre in Chicago years ago and loved it. I'm showing Rent to my LGBT Social Group at a Senior Home in Chicago tomorrow...and then watching Tick Tick Boom with my best friend tomorrow night! Oh Joy!!
I loved this movie!
God sent his only son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins spread the gospel and fully surrender your life to God if you want to go to heaven God bless you all amen and don’t use God or Jesus’s name as a curse word and try not to sin that means don’t say oh my god or God dammit

I turned 20 in December 2021, and I really loved this movie. I'm no Jonathan Larson, but his struggles clearly are the same as mine, and the ticking, my god that ticking made me so anxious because I felt it in my soul!
As a young artist, I have to say thank you Lin Manuel Miranda and thank you Jonathan Larson🙏🏾
No credit to the original cast that brought it to the screen but casts his buddies instead? Never liked LMM and like him even less after this.
Spiderman No way home
He was always spiderman to me !

This what happened after Gwen Stacy died 😖
This is beyond rude. Jonathan Larson was a real person. Gwen Stacy is a character.
@@anastasiabyheart holy shit it’s a joke

Would be more appropriate for another film that isn’t this musical that actually flopped
Nice try tho *slow clap*
Rent is so overrated
If it’s for the same reasons that any other person says when they don’t like or say it’s overrated then that’s just predictable not to mention a snooze
Thankfully art is subjective so your opinion is only an opinion
Maybe because you never watched a performance nor the film. Or you just don’t have feelings as a human being
More like tick tock dump
Really now.
I laughed so hard 💀
