Me too. I’m afraid of dying young without achievements because my mum and her mum passed away early so I feel like I won’t be here long enough to become someone. I think it’s very human to search for meaning. I also think the reason why you feel relate so much to Jonathan is because you have an artistic soul. That you’re bound to create or express something of your own. You can start from understanding the nature of yourself and what you like to do. Something makes you think ‘what a way to spend a day’ :) And share it, and share love. I think love is what life is about.
i totally understand this, there’s such a level of uncertainty in life, especially for artists. in this day and age it’s terrifying not knowing. i can’t see more than 2 months into my future at a time. and the happy birthday melody haunted me so badly that i couldn’t sleep. any kind of traditional song brings back memories and general nostalgia for me. when he played the song it brought back that nostalgic feeling but when he left it unfinished, it became such a metaphor for his life. he couldn’t see the success or finish his work on his own so the orchestra finished it for him through that final thundering note. i can’t stop thinking about it.

It's pretty amazing that Tick Tick Boom has introduced this guy to so many of us who never knew who he was, or what happened to him tragically as he devoted countless hours to focusing his life's work. It consumed him. He lives on.
Ugh. Little does he know that thirty years from now, this song will be sung by Broadway royalty on a multi-million dollar set. An actor, who is set to win the academy award, will be playing him in a movie about this musical that he crafted when we was working for shit tips in a diner. Little does he know that a young musical theatre writer was watching this Off-Broadway performance when he was still a teen. This teen will then grow up to be one of the most renowned writers of musical theatre in history, and direct his musical as a film. Little does he know.

How does it sound like only three people clapping? It's almost poetic how unknown some of the worlds most talented being are. He truly made it big posthumously.
I’d never seen Jonathan Larson perform before (not before watching Andrew Garfield’s version, at least), and I love how “unpolished” this is compared to the big production that was the movie - just a guy and a piano, singing a silly song he wrote to a smattering of applause from a small crowd. There’s something tender here. Something very very real. How could he have known he’d have a movie dedicated to him, or a massive cast of stars singing the chorus? (And a very, very pretty actor playing his younger self? 😆 I mean, I loved Garfield, but you can’t see the sleepless caffeinated nights of a struggling creator on his face -maybe I’m projecting? But here, you can.) Something about that makes me shiver. Good shivers.
He reminds me of joe iconis. The main difference between the two is that joe is still alive and saw his show go to Broadway. On the Jonathan Larson project album joe’s wife was involved with the project and sings a song called hosing the furniture. Every time I listen to it I have to remind myself that joe didn’t write it. It reminds me of his song ammonia in the feel. That’s where they are especially similar, both create crazy funny silly songs, I mean joe has a song called velociraptor for Pete’s sake. If u like Jon in this state I recommend giving a look at joe’s stuff.
I quite disagree with that. Andrew Garfield's performance was very manic and altogether super good. I felt the frustrated and sleepless struggle throughout the entire movie. I do agree that this is tender and real but Sunday was actually my favorite performance in the movie especially because of all the actors and the rendition of the chorus. It felt heavenly. Jonathan is one of my biggest influences. He knew what could be possible with theatre, wanted to change the way people looked at it, and if he wanted it done he would make it happen. And he loved it more than anything which is most important
Jonathan was such a talented person. What has always made me so sad was how hard he worked...and worked and worked...for years in NY trying to break through. Slaving at that crappy diner to scratch by. Performing also as we see him here..brilliantly..to scant crowds. And then when fortune smiled and he finally got noticed for the supreme talent that he was, he was taken from us. I made a trip to that diner to remember him. Thank you Jonathan.
If I remember correctly from my research thus far, a friend recorded his entire first show. However, it never got fully released. I also would love to see the full show myself. I didn’t know about him before watching Tick… Tick… Boom! but now that I do I can’t stop thinking about him.

I'll be the FIRST to say it. LinManuel did an amazing job of making this simple piece pop and become a musical masterpiece. Honestly, not a religious person but BLESS those who take inspiration and cherish it so much as to make the vision others couldn't make happen and turn it into GOLD. Sunday is one of my fav songs soely because of that. I hold and treasure any artist who has enough love and direction to give inspiration where it is due. Never give up. There may be someone who see's that passion and grows from it. You NEVER know.

I used to go to Moondance so often. My recording studio was in the background. Watching TTB conjured up so many fun memories. I'm so glad they captured that spectacular graffiti art on the wall behind it. I was so upset when they painted over it. JL blew them all away... and they knew it.
My mom always told me that God sometimes take brilliant people away early because they were too perfect for this world, I guess he was one of them. So glad that Lin-Manuel makes us notice this legendary person.

I'll be the FIRST to say it. LinManuel did an amazing job of making this simple piece pop and become a musical masterpiece. Honestly, not a religious person but BLESS those who take inspiration and cherish it so much as to make the vision others couldn't make happen and turn it into GOLD. Sunday is one of my fav songs soely because of that. I hold and treasure any artist who has enough love and direction to give inspiration where it is due. Never give up. There may be someone who see's that passion and grows from it. You NEVER know.

I used to go to Moondance so often. My recording studio was in the background. Watching TTB conjured up so many fun memories. I'm so glad they captured that spectacular graffiti art on the wall behind it. I was so upset when they painted over it. JL blew them all away... and they knew it.
