I made my C43 exhaust sound LOUDER with this simple mod

- A Full review and test of the ASR component / ASR exhaust flap module for the C43 AMG. This small device allows the exhaust flaps to be open 100% all of the time instead of the stock which only opens the exhaust flaps 100% when the car is at a certain RPM.
If anyone has any questions please post in the comments and I will try my best to help.

This video features the C43 AMG which is one of the AMG performance versions of the Mercedes C Class. My car is the 2019 C43 AMG Saloon or the C43 AMG Sedan for those across the pound :)
The C43 gives you that great AMG sound from the AMG performance and also the luxury of a Mercedes Benz
This is the W205 Class. The 2019 C43 AMG

I concur. There is very little to no difference on startup revs. All in all, there is such a minor change in exhaust tone. Personally, I would not invest into something like this but it is a good tool to fully control the valves to your liking. Great video and review mate
Great video! Definitely the most detailed out there about the ASR exhaust module.
Thank you :)
I am from Malaysia and have been watching your video. To be frank, after watching your videos, I went to buy a 2019 C43 last year. Due to this pandemic, Mercedes Benz Malaysia had few units of 2019 C43 left over as Malaysia was lockdown since march 2020 for about 2 months. As Merc Malaysia threw in some freebies to clear the stocks, I quickly bought one. But I only found out that C43 sold in Malaysia doesn't come with Performance Exhaust but only Sports Exhaust. Been trying to make my C43 exhaust sound better in the aftermarket but couldn't get anyone. This video really helps and will write to them to enquire. Thank you in advance.
I also installed a racechip into my car hoping it will make it sound better. It did help but not as good as the Performance Exhaust but the increase in HP and Torque really turn my C43 into a car that I felt more fun to drive.
Nice video! I see that your presenting skills really improved :) and i definitly heard the difference! Sound much better now
Thanks mate, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I I appreciate your comment! :) More to come!
Great in depth video pal! Considering 99% of the time we drive below under 3000rpm anyway, this sounds awesome
Thanks! Yep it's made my commute more fun for sure!
It really allows you to hear the turbo noise and also the sound is clearly further enhanced in the cabin
Thanks Josh that's a good point. I love listening to all the small details :)
Thanks for vid. Interested to see the install video! These appeal to me instead of hacking around with the exhaust itself.
No problem Daniel. Me too it's a really easy DIY mod that's easy to remove too. If you want a bit more noise it's a really good little mod. I will try get the install video up soon :)
This guy is so humble.
Love the videos. Im a AMG fanboy aswell mate, so were both in the same boat.
Hi have had the asr module on my 43 and it definitely makes a difference
Hi Terry, good stuff! I agree I had mine turned off on my way home from work today to test and I really missed it. I will be doing a update in a few weeks but I'm more positive each day about it :)
@@ABAUTOAMG I’m glad I got it , I also had my calipers painted at the same place you got yours done so thank you for the recommendation, keep up the good work
The first one with ASR; The turbos just sound like magic.
Wear headphones or earbuds so you can hear it.
I've got one on my Facelift C63S. The main thing about it is that it keeps comfort loud on all the time. Stock, if you go from Sport + to Comfort the sport exhaust goes off leaving you to have to press the button in the cabin to open it up again. With ASR it stays on all the time. it's also good with downpipes to keep the car starting up quieter with valves shut so it's still neighbour friendly.
Totally agree! It's great that it remembers and keeps the values open. True words too with neighbours. I also don't want to get in trouble waking my daughter up if she's alseep :D
Another great via ABAUTO 👏 your videos contributed to me getting a C43 back in September and now you are making me think about mods! Could you possibly do some noise tests whilst driving on the open road with a go-pro on the back of the car? Keep up the good work on the channel
Ah thanks! Glad you've been enjoying the vids. Mods are fun! :) Absolutely I will try to make some more drive videos!
Another great video Adam. Keep the great content coming. I’m seriously considering this. I’m assuming the pre-facelift one will work for a MY16 C63S and installation is in the boot? Also looking forward to the install video 👍🏽
Thanks! This will be insane on a 16 c63s I bet! Yes I think so but I'd email them to check to make sure. Mention abauto for the discount too!
Excellent content! :)
Thanks Cosa :)
Great video!
Thanks Jahi! :)
In case you didn't know, the facelift models (as well as most new AMG's with the performance exhaust option fitted) also include an "emotion start". Hold a shift paddle back while pressing the start button to start the car - it will fire up with the flaps open (likely to the 70% max described) with a slightly higher rev.
Thanks Aphexer, unfortunately they added this mid 2019 so early 2019 facelift models like mine just missed out! :(
Bruh I just tried this and mine has it and I never knew thank you so much. It sounds insane
I can’t believe they don’t tell you this stuff. Owned the car for over a year and never knew it. I’ve been wanting to make the car sound better when starting up and it’s already installed lmao. God I hate dealerships
This is the special AMG manual for the C class. It has emotion start along with a few other nice AMG only features explained www.mbusa.com/content/dam/mb-nafta/us/owners/manuals/2020/Operators/2020_C-Class_Cab_AMG_OM.pdf
Thank you
Great. Very complete. I think the performance exhaust is so good that the ASR mod probably improves the sound 10-15%. Have you driven a C63S? It is so much fun. I have driven a C43 and C63S and it’s a big difference.
Thanks! Yep the exhausts sounds so great already it's just a slight enhancement. Ah yes I love the C63. That V8 is pure pleasure to listen too :)
@@ABAUTOAMG thanks. I am actually deciding between buying a C43, C63, M4 or M2. Trying to find the best all rounder and exciting car. Any suggestions guys?
@@ricardomatos6316 Some great options you have there! Have you considered a E63s too? V8 + four wheel drive traction, including drift mode :) You can pick them up few years old at incredible value at the moment too. Great all rounder but for me was a bit too big and boaty round heavy corners.
@@ABAUTOAMG E class to big and heavy. I want a car that is exciting to drive but also comfy enough for a nice trip. Have you tried your C43 without the ESP so you can drift. Rear wheel drives are the best in terms of fun. But in the UK we experience so much rain and cold weather that the C43 is a great option.
Does it change fuel economy playing with the valves and how the exhaust sounds?
Hello mate.
Hope all is good.
Wanted to ask how long did it take for your c43 to arrive if you spec’d the car yourself.
Love the videos.
Cheers.
Hi mate, All good here thanks! Hope things going well with you. Lead times were around 3 months when I got mine but I'm not sure what it's like at the moment with the covid situation.
Hi thanks for the video. I actually have a FL GLC63s (inc exhaust button). I find your content very interesting 🙏🏽. Question. Did you have to route the wiring through the boot floor and connect to the flap solenoid?
Thanks MOE. To install all I needed to do with mine was pull up the boot floor slightly to access the two cables, unplug then the new box plugs imbetween the two. It's a really easy one. I'm going to put together a walkthrough video for you guys.
Does the a180 2017 have an exhaust function? Don't see button so thought might be seen in screen in car setting?
Ordered one today for my CLA 35 AMG, will keep you guys updated. Great content!
How did it go? Does it make a difference
@@adicarlogeneral It went great! Huge difference for sound enthusiasts. Of course the car doasnˋt change bc of this, but its more loud and growly if that makes sense
@@apospecial3848 good to know. Does your car come with a opf filter?
@@adicarlogeneral yes
@@apospecial3848 ok thanks last question. Do you get more pops and crackles?
Hi mate great video! I have a 2017 c43 and get up stupidly early if the asr is on mode “2” would the cold start be a bit quieter? As it could wake the dead at the moment! Love the car!!
Hi Daniel, quite the opposite actually! The ASR module remembers the exhaust flaps are open when you turn it off so you will get even louder start ups because the exhaust will still be open if you leave it on 1 for example by mistake. Leaving it on 2 would be the same as normal stock since stock keeps the values closed on startup.
What controls are lost when connecting the asr instead of the original leads? I suppose they're not connected to the centre-console switch, since it still alters the sound after the install... Then are the original leads related to throttle input maybe, which is subsequently trades away throttle-exhaust control over to the asr key-fob?
There's nothing lost if hooked up correctly. All the cables are still connected the ASR module just sits in the middle, bit like a junction box. So everything is hooked up and still working just the module can tap in and bypass a few settings. I'm not an electrician so I may not have described this in the best way but as someone with first hand experience using this I can assure it all works as normal. Hope this helps! If you have any more questions I'm always here to help. I am also doing a free ASR module giveaway soon for my subscribers.
Nice video! Is it worth it? Did you installed it by yourself? Little tip, In my opinion its better to drive away from the camera instead of towards to hear the exhaust 😊👍🏻
Thanks! I'd say so I'm enjoying the sound so far. I'm going to do a update in a week after driving with it daily for 3 weeks I'm going to switch it off for a few days and see how much I miss it as a test and make a short update video. Yep easy to install takes minutes. I'm going to film a full install guide video asap for everyone. Great point with the drive away I should of included this too.. perhaps il make a separate video of that!
A very comprehensive review of this module. I have a 2020, C43 Cabriolet, so I’m thinking this may suit very well. However, can you confirm : “ In comfort mode,( emotion start up) valves are only open at 70% until revs hit 3000 then it’s 100%. With the ASR,.. valves are open 100% from start up and all through the rev range and in all modes ?”
Thnx
Hey, thank you. Yep with the module fitted it will force the values 100% open for startup and driving around. It remembers it so car always starts up with them open. You can put it in stock mode also at a flip of the button. Great little device.
@@ABAUTOAMG Thnx for the reply. I’ve emailed the German supplier to see if they still do your discount. If not, I’ll probably just go ahead anyway. Thnx
great video but I have got a question , Can you fit this module if car still under mercedes warranty ?
Hi Mate. No problem this should not void your warrenty. Warrenty is only void if the mod directly causes the problem that needs fixing. Theres not really a scenario where this would happen with the ASR module. Some of these hook up with your CAN-Bus for more interior button intergrationwhich could leave traces but luckily this module does not connect to the CAN-Bus. So it's the safest one as far as warrenty goes.
Hi ABauto. Just wondering if you could offer advice. I have brought an ASR module for my 2021 C43 which has the switchable PE fitted. It seems to be working but I have noticed the valves can be heard switching and moving periodically when the engine is not on e.g opening the boot or doors. Does the one fitted to yours do that? Starting to think I haven’t fitted it correctly. Also not convinced it remembers the previous setting.
Hey Nick, Sorry to hear you are having some issues. What you describe does not sound right at all! Mine only opens and closes the valves when the engine is running and it doesn't interfere with the boot, doors etc. It should also remember the previous setting so if you have them open they stay opened forever until you press the button again. Have a look again to make sure the wires are all connected up. I have a separate video here with a walkthrough on the installation. ua-cam.com/video/wdb1UEcHwRo/v-deo.html Hope you get it sorted mate!
Can this be installed on E43 that doesn't have performance exhaust on it? I recently purchased 2018 E43. Love the car but miss the performance Exhaust. Have been looking for options to make car a bit louder.
Hi Sheraz, Unfortunately the unit only works with the optional performance exhaust. You could look into downpipes or a burble tune for some more pops.
I was going to get one but they don't ship to Australia and the supplier in Australia wants $658 - there is no way it is worth that.
Thanks for the video though, I enjoy watching them.
Hello how are you? Do you have any experience or opinion about the blow off valves for the w205c63s 2018. Do you know is asr component has that kind of equipment.. will it be safe to install it? Thank you for your attention.
Hey, Sorry I haven’t really much experience or tested the blow off valves on the C63 myself so I don’t want to give you bad advice. The ASR component is separate though and controls the flaps in the exhaust.
@@ABAUTOAMG ok thank you. I understand.
If you don't have the performance exhaust from the factory ie no button, will this make a difference still?
Hi Barry I'm afraid this only works if you have the AMG performance exhaust with the button.
Can i use it with my 2020 c43 AMG and the U21 exhaust. ? ? ( has flaps too) Ty .
Yep! This works in the 2020 model if you have the AMG performance exhaust. Make sure to order the "Facelift" version in the links in the description.
If you you turn off the car and start it again the valves will be open or you have to use the remote to open it again?
It will keep them open! :) One of the best things about the asr is it remembers and keeps the values open so you can leave them and they will stay open forever until you press the button again.
Hi does the exhaust module work on all amg models . I have a glc amg 43 Without the exhaust button did not know if it would still work cheers
Hi Robert, this only works if you have the button on the C43 I'm afraid :(
@@ABAUTOAMG ok thanks 👍🏻
Has anyone figured out how to change the language to English on the ASR site?
Considering this mod. Qq: in your opinion, does it make the idle sound in S+ noticeably louder?
Hey, It's only a slight difference on idle the biggest difference is it's a bit throatier driving a low rpms. Overall it's not a huge sound upgrade so it wont blow you away but it's still a nice little boost. One other thing that I like is that when changing drive modes back and forth from sport+ to comfort you dont need to keep pressing the exhaust button everytime. It's nice that it's always on if you like driving in comfort with the values open.
@@ABAUTOAMG thanks! That’s really helpful. See what I notice is that when I do an emotion start on my c43 the idle sound is very loud immediately, and then 30 seconds later the idle sound quiets down even though it’s still in s+. I assume that’s the valves closing up again until the car is driven in 1st gear. So does the mod enable the idle sound to stay just as loud continuously until I start driving? Not sure if that’s too difficult to answer but appreciate any steer you have!
I really like your videos. Always information, great production quality, great content ideas and great commentry. If I had any criticism, it would be that your body language, specifically your body movements are really awkward... like the mini walks and over exaggerated hand movements - it just comes off as really unnatural to me.
Does the ASR make any real difference if u have the Stock Exhaust? (U21)
It doesn't work with the stock exhaust I'm afraid
How do you know if you have performance exhaust? Mine is u21 on options
Hi David, It's really easy to check inside the car. Models with the performance exhaust will have a exhaust button in the centre console near the volume dial. If you have this button you've got the exhaust :)
Hello, Fernando from Portugal, is there that kind of equipment for the 2018 c63s? Thank you.
Hey Fernando, You can get one exactly like this for the C63s. It does the same thing but is a different box. Email Michael at info@asr-component.de and he should be able to guide you on the right box to buy.
@@ABAUTOAMG Hello, thank you. I will do that.👍👍🎄

Would this mod work with a C43 without PE?
I'm afraid this only works with the PE :(
Hi mate, my C43 2020 doesn’t have PE but has amg sports exhaust so will this work on it as I’m not sure if mine will have valves if not PE?
Hey, unfortunately the sports exhaust does not have the valves so this won’t work without the PE.
Not sure it’s worth the price. Is it?
Is the ASR worth getting if the vehicle doesn’t have a performance exhaust?
It only works with the performance exhaust I'm afraid so you’d have to have it
where do you get the asr module???
There two links in the video description. One for facelift and one for prefacelift
Will this adapt to my 2017 glc43?
As long as you have the optional AMG performance exhaust it will work :) Just make sure you buy the prefacelift version (rx1) for your 2017 model. See links in video description if not sure.
Can I do this to my lease c43 and take it out when I return it or will it void the warranty?
I think it will be fine as it's a simple plug and play. I don't think it can harm the car so your warrenty will be fine :)
@@ABAUTOAMG Thanks so much, your vids are great btw cheers!
Will this work if I don’t have the performance exhaust?
Hi, Unfortunately this will only work if you have the full performance exhaust since It uses the coding and the values.
Has anyone figured out how to set the website for the product to English? Having trouble ordering one
Hi Kian, it's a pain it's in German. Have you tried opening the website via google translate?
Is there one for the A35 AMG?
Hi Jose, I'm not sure but on the 35 but ive seen one for the 45s so worth looking into!
How much was it and where did you get it from?
Hey, Theres two versions based on your model year. Links are in the video description for both versions.
What year is this c43?
This is a 2019. The facelift model.
Finally!!!!
I haven't watched the video but I've already ordered it thanks for the code!
Ah no worries good stuff! It's a great little mod. It's so hard to get the sound on film but in person it's very noticeable. I had like this mod control valve exhaust thing on my cla45 amg it sound incredibly nice with no res on my girl 👻
How does it sound in upper RPMs?
I don't think it makes any difference in the upper RPMs because in stock the values open up 100% when at higher rpms. It's all about having them open 100% at those low rpms :)
@@ABAUTOAMG Ahhhhhhh okay, I gotcha! Thanks for clarifying. Start up does sound better!

My one doesn’t have the exhaust button why
The AMG performance exhaust is a factory optional extra so not all c43’s have it. If your missing the button you have the standard exhaust. With the standard exhaust it’s quieter and you don’t get the crackles in sport+ mode.

@@07772371826 There’s two exhausts 1. The AMG sports exhaust (no button and quieter) and 2. The AMG performance exhaust (button, louder and crackles in sport+) The AMG performance exhaust is £1000 factory option. Both have the 4 tips.
