@@zacharyhutchens absolutely, grandia is one of the greatest games ever made( the 2&3 not so much) I think it was better than FF games. It's story and gameplay is just so original and I don't think the creators realized just how special a game they created.

I think WA4 gets a lot of undeserved hate! It’s such a great game, I was so sad to see it below WA3 lol. It doesn’t have any recycled dungeon and each one of them has an amazing immersive atmosphere, as well as the catchiest soundtrack (look for “ghost of knights”, “the shining spear pierces the darkness” and “time and rocks piled up”). The world map is a plus too, since the game is not filled with a vast emptiness and the short travels positively simplified the quest to find all the treasures in the game (which couldn’t be more tedious and frustrating in WA3, ACF and 5). The characters’ development and charisma sure are hard to digest (specially from the antagonists), but all of them get to have their own personalities and specialized fighting style, which quite honestly wasn’t WA5’s strong suit with the medium system (not to mention the hex system was more balanced than in WA5). As for the story, there really isn’t anything special about it, but it is kind of interesting that they heavily approached on politics in a game where the protagonist is a kid if you ask me. Lastly, the progression isn’t nearly as slow as in WA3 or unnecessarily extensive as in WA5. There’s no way you’ll get bored by playing it.

The translation/localization was absolutely terrible, though. I have several friends who just couldn't see the game for what it truly was specifically because of that. I'd imaging there are a lot of people who were like that. You can't really say the "story is good" when english-only speakers/readers play the english version of the game, considering what a butchered mess everything was. I love Suikoden II, personally (though I like V more) but not many people I know would call it a masterpiece by any stretch
I see where you're coming from with Wild ARMs XF, but I personally loved it! I liked the difficulty and, unlike many other SRPGs, actually had varied objectives to complete maps rather than just being a 'Defeat all enemies' type of game from beginning to end.
My ranking of the Wild Arms games might be alittle unfair because I have only played them once and it was 10+ years ago. S: Suikoden 2, Suikoden 5, Grandia 2 A: Suikoden 1, Suikoden 3, Grandia 1 B: C: Wild Arms 2, Wild Arms 5, Wild Arms 3, Grandia 3, Suikoden 4 D: Wild Arms 1 E: Wild Arms 4
I really enjoyed the game.. One part I think he missed out on this game is the music track. I think with the story and the music in this game, the villians and the ending really brings out emotion to this game.
Hold onto the game. They are going for stupid amounts of money on Ebay. Bought my copy years ago for around $30 and now they are selling for well over $100.

Don't worries me neither. I'm confused why this games is A tier. The story freaking bad and i'm glad they put skippable cutscene or i'm gonna throw my controller everytime alfina speaks. Speaking of the story, i feel like they Rip off some of element/concept from FFX. Communicator is just exclusive summoner and many similiarities with cheesy romance from FFX. And he put FFX B tier smh. Also he praise about the gameplay mechanixs but honestly i tried playing this games and ITS so fricking tedious with galacting bang spamming and absolute zero spam. Tbh gameplay in grandia is the weakest spot so yeah if the story trash then the game is trash
Same here. The first half of the game was fine, then they get rid of two of the best characters with two characters, one with no personality and one with an annoying personality (Ulf). Plus the game difficulty spikes so high all of a sudden, you can't beat anyone. I even grinded for hours trying to level up my characters, and got nowhere. It's definitely a broken game IMO.

Since I only played Suikoden Series in this list, I agree with you for all Suikoden rank. Suikoden II and V are masterpiece, but I feel that Suikoden V is less chalenging because of too many overpower characters.
They say Suikoden Tactics is still part of the canon series as it happened within the timeline of Suikoden 4. However, it does seem different as rather than using runes, you use rune cannons.

I'm also a strong defender of Suikoden 1, I feel way too many people skip it and start with the second game. On one hand, I do sort of understand the sentiment because the first and second game do feel very similar to each other (and the second one is arguable the better game), but I still think it would be a real shame to miss out on such a fantastic title. However, I don't agree that its short length is necessarily all that bad. Due to its short length, the story is very fast paced, and the game overall has very little unnecessary elements (except the fight against Neclord, that always seemed a little silly to me). I like the fact that its a lean and mean game. It's also one of the reasons why I think Chrono Trigger is such a fantastic game: it's only 25 hours or so, and contains no superfluous elements. If you don't have that much time to spare, Suikoden 1 is a great game to pick up!
I actually came here expecting some Grandia Parallel Trippers talk! 😂 I see that you haven't played the game. I did, many years ago, and I found it to be pretty good. 2D, crystal clear graphics, good pixel art, and a combat system involving cards. The game even gets kind of hard. What else could I ask for? I don't know, because I haven't played any other Grandia games lol
Erick Landon RPG.. there's a Suikoden successor that's being made in the Kickstarters right now.. have you seen it? It's called Eiyuden Chronicle. I'm a Suikoden series avid fan also.. Murayama sensei is there in the Eiyuden Chronicle too.. :)
I agree with most of this. Suikoden 2 is my favorite game of all time. It has been since I first played it as a kid. I also replay it 100% of the way through almost yearly. I can remember how and when to obtain every character just off the top of my head. HOWEVER, I would personally for sure have put Suikoden 4 in C-tier and place Wild Arms 3 and Grandia 2 in A-tier. Suikoden 4 was by and large my LEAST favorite Suikoden game. Every other game in the series I 100% beat multiple times. I only did that once for Suikoden 4 and even going back to it now I just kinda feel that the combat system is worse then every other game in the series in a pretty instantly noticeable way. I also didn't find myself as engrossed in the world as I would hope. I love big water worlds in theory, but everything else around it was so uninteresting to me, I just end up getting bored halfway through the game. Tierkreis I can understand not being as much of a shining star as the mainline entries, but Suikoden 4 shares a console with 3 and 5, which are worlds better in pretty much every way. Like it's not a BAD GAME, it's just painfully mediocre to me. Meanwhile, Grandia 2 was an amazing time when I played it on Dreamcast as a kid, and about a year ago I decided to play it again and before I knew it, 8 hours had just flashed by. The story and characters with the classic anime voice cast really hits a good spot of nostalgia for me has aged in a good way. Wild Arms 3 was the first game for me in the series that just 100% NAILED the old west aesthetic. It just BLED cowboy legend vibes. Great list though! i'm really glad to see that fellow Suikoden fans in general are popping up with videos now that 100 Heroes got Kickstarted!
@@rainehappy7097 yeah ive got it on Digital for PS3, I just havent had a chance to play it yet. I have such a huge back log of Games, but hopefully once i get this Monitor i need for my set up i can start changing that.
just fyi, KOEI also released another iteration which is what Suikoden based on, RTS type game called Bandit Kings of Ancient China around 90s for home computers which got ported/remaked later on for Saturn & PS1 I think. I did play this way back then on PC, so I'm curious about your thoughts. ;) also, probably should treat Wild Arms Alter Code F as a separate title. Even thought it's a remake from 1st one, whole game itself felt nearly different from original and it also introduces at least 3 more playable characters. WA-ACF kinda takes the best out of previous 3 series and mold it into a much better masterpiece. Just like how Final Fantasy 7 original PS1 version compared with the PS4 remake, that's how Wild Arms 1 compared to Wild Arms Alter Code F. Also, kinda sux u played WA series in different order and gave WA3 less favour, if u played like I do way back then in order of release, then u might find WA3 are on much better terms. At least I agree that WA4 is the black sheep of the series. I personally would rank WA series as follows: ACF > 2 > 3 > 5 > 1 > 4. haven't tried XF yet since I don't own PSP.
KOEI made that game initially for the NES in Japan and North America but for years I never knew it was based on the Water Margin like Suikoden titles from Konami were. Bandit Kings of Ancient China is honestly my favorite of all the war simulators that came out back in that time period. I have another friend who is and was an absolute junky for that game, was very satisfying to play despite the slow nature of it. I'm surprised to see someone bring that up as I thought I was one of the few who was aware of that inital game. Thanks for talking about this.
I feel like with the Grandia series in here, the list should have included Lunar instead of Suikoden. We need SOMETHING to be the bottom tier, and Dragon Song fits that bill!
It was hard going from the battle system of 5 and 1? But 1 is so simple like a regular RPG. :p Well, I suppose there's some slight complex stuff... you need a bunch of crest graphs for the magic for Cecilia, there's upgrading the guns for Rudy, finding the hidden sword techniques for Jack, and waiting for the special meter to build up as an extra set of moves, but that's about it. :p The rest seems like your standard thing, I might have a harder time understanding this hexagon thing. :p It kind of seems like a matter of avoiding enemy attacks and hitting them from the sides and back though... if it's a lot more complicated than that though, I'm not sure where I'd start. :(
Grandia 1's placement is criminally low. That game was contemporary to FF7 and was the first bold steps towards voice acting in a JRPG and the de-emphasis on leveling in favor of character growth based on in game choices was elegant and engaging. Other than that I think the rest of the placements make good sense. Tierkries might be a bit high, and it's a bold choice to say Suiko 5 can stand on the same level as 2 given their fandom (though I agree).
Grandia 1 and 2 only B tier thats is a crime in my opinion :P . Especially Grandia 1 is still one of my favorite if not my absolute favorite JRPG of all times
He very well knows having been (too much?) hyped when it has been announced... Let's hope Eiyuden Chronicles will not suffer from the "mighty n°9 syndroma"
Grandia II. Grandia. Grandia III. Grandia Xtreme.. G2 should be A, Millenia made that game so enjoyable and her 'death' was one of the most saddest moments in an RPG game.
Aww, Wild Arms 1 and Grandia I are only B, while most Suikodens get A and S? Well, alright I suppose. :p I sort of disagree with Suikoden 3 though, felt a bit more like Wild Arms 3 as being kind of okay around C-B, but it wasn't terrible. :p I mean, their at least better to me than the likes of some of the newer Final Fantasy games like XIII, or Tales of Symphonia 2: Dawn of the New World. :p Oh, and Breath of Fire V: Dragon Quarter... Heck, Wild Arms 3 compared to those games at least is actually something I wouldn't mind playing over again. :p
I know Erick loves the Suikoden series but, although not being a bad game, Suikoden IV (as well as Tactics) is not of the same quality as Wild ARMs, Grandia I & II etc...

Wild Arms XF is a real masterpiece. Excellent music. Great and very long story. Excellent battle system (pretty well balanced in my opinion). Good visuals. And of course... Weissheit ! DO NOT MISS IT !!!
I see you're the man who plunder into the future
I used to have the exact same opinion until I played disgaea lol. I was like “oh, so this how you actually have fun with tactics rpg”
Hey Erick, moar tier lists. Totally digging these vids!
The only real complaint I have about the remake of Wild ARMs 1 (the remake not the orignal) is that it brought back mp but didn't bring back mp restore items XD
Don't you recover by defending, or was that in the second one?
New to your channel and I really like your content. Subscribed. I think Suikoden 4 is pretty underrated. And it took me much longer to finish it!!! (Probably because i was navigating those open seas for so flipping long!). Wild Arms is one of my favorite series and I played the first three in order. The first is one of my favorite games ever. 2 was a bit of a disappointment and 3 is as good or better than the first one. May I ask you do this for the Legend of Legaia series? I know it's only two games but the first on was my favorite game ever until I played Dragon Quest XI.

Another video idea! How about rating all the remakes/remastered JRPG games?
For me Wild ARMs 3 is incredibly special to me cause I played a demo of a game at walmart and absolutely loved it but I didn't have a ps2 at the time so I didn't really remember then name but I was amazed by it at the time. Come me getting into the wild arms series later I fell in love with wild arms 1 and found out it had a sequel I had to get it so I got WA3 (XD didn't get 2 untill waaaaay later) and when I did the intro sections I realized that this was that demo game I had been trying to identify for years.
That must have been so satisfying!
@@laecorte XD Very much so!
Suggestion for another rank video, all Monolithsoft games (perhaps even Xenogears).
How are you feeling about Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes?
Grandia 1 for me is the best grandia by far, grandia 2 are so overated too short 25h no side quest, too easy.
Grandia was just too good. Probably my favorite rpg for ps1. Best story unique fighting style, just love it.

Hey!! Have you heard about the Kickstarter for Eiyuden Chronicle, a new game by the Suikoden team?
I respect your opinion. Mine is different, but each player has their own preferences.
Wow

The translation/localization was absolutely terrible, though. I have several friends who just couldn't see the game for what it truly was specifically because of that. I'd imaging there are a lot of people who were like that. You can't really say the "story is good" when english-only speakers/readers play the english version of the game, considering what a butchered mess everything was. I love Suikoden II, personally (though I like V more) but not many people I know would call it a masterpiece by any stretch
I need to try these series eventually.
Interesting how much nostalgia plays into this.
The first grandia is the best, and the 2nd suikoden is the best. Haven't played the wild arms ones.
first wild arms is the best the rest are mediocre,
I see where you're coming from with Wild ARMs XF, but I personally loved it! I liked the difficulty and, unlike many other SRPGs, actually had varied objectives to complete maps rather than just being a 'Defeat all enemies' type of game from beginning to end.
no way G3 would surpass G2, but good to see Grandia getting some attention
They haven't made G3 yet, it doesn't exist.

My ranking of the Wild Arms games might be alittle unfair because I have only played them once and it was 10+ years ago.

B:
C: Wild Arms 2, Wild Arms 5, Wild Arms 3, Grandia 3, Suikoden 4
D: Wild Arms 1

Wild Arms 5 is my favorite game out of the Wild Arms series. I even still have the special edition artbook that came with the game.
Its art is the most beautiful from all the titles
I really enjoyed the game.. One part I think he missed out on this game is the music track. I think with the story and the music in this game, the villians and the ending really brings out emotion to this game.
Hold onto the game. They are going for stupid amounts of money on Ebay. Bought my copy years ago for around $30 and now they are selling for well over $100.
Yes! Erick you get me! I love Grandia 3. Played em all, but Grandia 3 was my favorite.

I couldn't get on with Grandia 3 at all. I've tried it so many times...
The writing was soooooo bad. Lots of loose ends and things that never paid off.
The thumbnail is beautiful
I bet the next one will have breath of fire!

Yep, suikoden 2 (5 for many others) it's simply the ultimate and number 1 masterpiece of the rpg genre, true rpg gamers know this as a fact.

Nice video! 👍
Perhaps the next one could be on Star Ocean, Breath of Fire and Phantasy Star?
Grandia 1 is S bro
Suikoden II is S-tier for me, no contest
I actually came here expecting some Grandia Parallel Trippers talk! 😂
I see that you haven't played the game. I did, many years ago, and I found it to be pretty good. 2D, crystal clear graphics, good pixel art, and a combat system involving cards. The game even gets kind of hard. What else could I ask for? I don't know, because I haven't played any other Grandia games lol
Grandia & Grandia 2 a B! 😥
First one- too long/Second one- to short/
The Demo for Wild Arms 2 was the first one i ever played. Still havent play the full version yet though.
It’s so good!!
It's only 10 bucks on PSN
@@rainehappy7097 yeah ive got it on Digital for PS3, I just havent had a chance to play it yet. I have such a huge back log of Games, but hopefully once i get this Monitor i need for my set up i can start changing that.
just fyi, KOEI also released another iteration which is what Suikoden based on, RTS type game called Bandit Kings of Ancient China around 90s for home computers which got ported/remaked later on for Saturn & PS1 I think. I did play this way back then on PC, so I'm curious about your thoughts. ;)
also, probably should treat Wild Arms Alter Code F as a separate title.
It's blasphemous to put the 1st Wild Arms in just B tier. 😔
The rest seems like your standard thing, I might have a harder time understanding this hexagon thing.
Suikoden 2 is SS Tier, Wild Arms 2 & Suikoden 5 are S tier. There i fixed it. 😂
Grandia 1 and 2 only B tier thats is a crime in my opinion :P . Especially Grandia 1 is still one of my favorite if not my absolute favorite JRPG of all times

I mean, their at least better to me than the likes of some of the newer Final Fantasy games like XIII, or Tales of Symphonia 2: Dawn of the New World.
