in my opinion he waited way too long to get a gap in traffic. I would have created the gap earlier. I would have backed it up more, then pull out when there was a gap, and then when there is a gap from the oncoming traffic i would pull it into that gap and just block the entire road immediately. Obviously in a safe manner, indicating to everyone what i am doing. But, i am big enough for cars to stop, and even trucks seem to stop when i do it. The only thing is: Make sure you set up correctly the first time. So you can push it in nicely and dont have to pull it up multiple times. Because then it becomes embarrassing. Anyways, me, dutch in the Netherlands, and when i know where i have to be, i drive towards it, slow down before i am where i should be to aim for a gap in oncoming traffic, and once the gap is there i make sure i am almost at the spot i should be. So i then can do the maneuvre, and i care not for what is behind. Im gonna block the street, simple. Parking beside the road and letting everyone go through is more dangerous. But yeah, as the rest said: Everyone who is able to drive a car reasonably safe can do this. It takes some practice, but after a bit of that it is like riding a bike.
From a recently retired 45 yr veteran of trucking delivering to city’s all over when you said just 3 years I’m impressed beyond all believe. You showed patience and skill that most never achieve. Your what being called a professional is all about.
This is just patience 101! You cannot teach that! My 1st year of trucking was just chaotic with situations like these. Now I'm calm, cool and collected. It just comes with time.
Funny. I think it should be illegal to allow drivers a license who can't back into a facility like this. This is asking the world to change in a world that is ever changing.. There will never be a lack of different challenges in this line of work. If you can't adapt you're in the wrong job....
I would sue that building's owner. It should be illegal to have to back up to a dock like that! If I wanted to be a bigger wimp,I would join the union. Lol
I’m a new driver, & this was very impressive ! I learned a lot from watching your hand movements and how your trailer was reacting. I’ll be on a national dedicated account going over 47 states & I know I’ll have to one day encounter situations like this. You’re definitely a pro, be safe out there !
I’ve been otr on my own for two weeks and two days ago I had to do a back like this delivering to a customer in Pennsylvania where I had to block traffic on both sides so that I good back into the dock. I was thinking of your video and I did it quickly & safely successfully!! ❤️, thank you !

Awesome Job my dude, I am a new trucker that come up from a Box truck driver. I work for an LTL company in Mi. My route is pretty much all Detroit, and we have some difficult docks to back into. Got to love the blindside backing in a pitch-black docks. I found the key to safe and effective driving is to take your time. Keep up the good work and be safe.
Very impressive. I drove for four years. There was an EXTREMELY tight dock that I would sometimes have to back into in Toledo, Ohio at Acklin Stamping. Not only was it tight, but you had to blindside back into it at a 45 degree angle in traffic. It was so tough, man. Once in the dock, your truck would only be like 5 feet from still being in the road. Luckily people were very patient with me most of the time. 1925 Nebraska Ave Toledo Ohio. I still have nightmares of putting a trailer in there when there was only one empty dock. 😂
For what it's worth, you did a fine job, especially with all the obstacles you had to go through. Thank you for sharing. Good looking fur baby you have there. Peace ✌.
Driver, you did an A+ fantastic job! After 37 years out here I'm real quick to say "Hey you could have done this better or you could have done that or I would have done this or I would have done that" but I'll tell you, after watching you do I really can't add anything at all! I've been to Chicago and all kinds of places I have had two back in the places like those indoor docks before. I'm a car hauler these days and from time to time I still have to back in somewhere from the street. Happy motoring. P.S. I absolutely love your co-driver! Pits are the best!
You did good bro! I’ve been driving for 2 1/2 years and I find that you get better by picking the worse parking spots to park in at rest areas to get your skills up . Keep up the good work 👍🏼
I deliver for 84 lumber but I drive the flatbed Cummings ram with a front to back front and side enclosed rack. I've had 40 foot lvls on there. The full rack is only 22 feet lol. Illegal but they never say anything to me even though I'm technically commercial. They are focused on our pig trucks. I have road around with them and helped on slow days and hell no lol I like my size truck. No dump but most places are new construction so I back up and hit the brakes and let it tip off and drove out from underneath. I like it dropping stuff off the top in between tight loads and steer the truck left or right to straighten it not to hit anything. Best job I've had. Out on my own just go back and forth til the day is done.
That why I was so scared of becoming a truck driver. Backing up. I’m in school now to become a truck driver. Great job man. I hope to be as good as you
I'm not a trucker or anything like that, but from what I can tell this is damn impressive. I have massive respect for ya! Hopefully one day I can try and be as patient as you : )
Super job driver!! It is really appreciated that you shared this. I'm retired, but I am always a driver at heart. God bless you and please stay safe....
That was tight at least u had someone patrolling while u we’re backing. Other drivers have hit that post where u we’re backing as well the wall. You did well, took your time and checked your mirrors consistanlly,. Great job backing in safely 👏
I used to deliver to the Pier 80 building in Philadelphia which involved driving into and through the building following a narrow path in between rolls of paper and bales of recycle paper and then finally backing up to one of only 2 docks for unloading in which the whole time the lighting inside the building was not the greatest!! You did a fantastic job driver backing and aligning into that building and against that dock. 👍
I drove for 15 years and I always enjoyed backing up! After a while you get so use to backing up that you don't really think of it that much. (You are so use to it).
I go in Chicago and around Chicago all the time, I was in Melrose Park, IL on IL-64 south on I believe 25th st for a pick up, place was a tough one, lucky us drivers all took turns in helping on stopping traffic so others can back in, I'll be in line and see a driver pulling out, I'll get out and so would another driver and we stop traffic coming from both directions. It was a rotation, I never seen it go so smoothly before.
Bro im from Chicago and worked for Sysco as my first class a job, all downtown n city deliveries. did that shit for 4 months. Worst experience as a new driver tbh but it made a better driver and helped me with my backing 100%. Idk how the fuck I didnt get into an accident but the moment I got a better opportunity I was GONE lol.
Been there, done that many many times. It doesn't get any easier, the other drivers will NEVER respect what you're trying to do. I do the same thing and yell at them and call them stupid, etc.... Impressive skill for only 3 years experience though.
Excellent work my man. Funny how years ago before GoPros and such that would just be a faint memory in your head of a tough back in, but instead now you can relive it, and you've shared your awesome skills with almost half a million people at this point.
Good work driver!!! You got it! Reminds me of my time moving trailers into amaricas mart in Atlanta.. up to 20 a day, backing driver side and blind side off the streets... Had to be quick and efficient to make it in that gig..
Backing into an off-street dock on a busy street is one thing. But backing into a dark hole is another. Especially, when you're backing around another trailer on the street., Great Job!
Lol I have a similar garage-style dock at work coming in off a street with street parking. Whenever a 53' dry van shows up about half don't even try, and half that do try can't quite get it. It's a giant PITA with poor visibility and multiple points where it looks like you can't make it, but it is doable with some patience. Props to you my dude.
Mad fing skills lol. I did something like this on my first week out lol a dock where you had to blindside of the street 🤣. People like you keep this country going.
Dude, I couldn't have done that with a completely empty street and seven hours to attempt it. VERY impressive the skill you guys have.
Most cdl driving students never get even 7 hours of backing practice.
You can after a few weeks of practice. Then it becomes natural. You'd be having that trailer in there as easy as he did it 👍
Let me guess Mr. Biden, you´d mix up the dock or fall asleep during backing?
in my opinion he waited way too long to get a gap in traffic. I would have created the gap earlier.
