One thing ChiChi doesn’t get enough credit for is supporting her kids based on their individual interests. Gohan was mild-mannered and wanted to be a scholar, so she encouraged him to study and didn’t want him getting involved in fighting because she knows he hates it. Goten, on the other hand, wanted to learn to fight, so ChiChi trained him. Her training may have even been the reason Goten was able to turn into a Super Saiyan such a young age
Toriyama explicitly hated her character but forced himself to write her anyway. So he wrote her as "the nagging overbearing japanese mother who gets on everyone's case while not contributing herself"
@itsbullzie I feel like chi chi was just written in just to be a wife to goku even tho *cough cough* female simping manipulation be crazy fr fr while she doesnt acomplish anything
Even as a child, I never understood the hatred for Chichi. Someone who cares SO much for your well-being that their a pain in the ass about it... yeah, sounds like a mom to me. And mine never let me learn martial arts, or go into space. Although, I will admit I'd like to see more moments showcasing the other aspects of her character(fighter, friend, royalty, etc.).
@@MisterGoofy ✌️🧐 As someone who has been to therapy, you should know that perspective is a matter of choice. Like how Gohan chooses to focus on how dedicated & hard working Chichi is, instead of how shrill & naysaying she can be. Which is probably why he still has such love & respect for her as an adult/parent.
The main thing I understood from Chi-Chi is that... she doesn't really understand the threats. It's even worse because she can't read Ki either. To Chi-Chi, she can't comprehend the gap between a Raditz and a Majin Buu, to her they're more or less the same. If they think their man is strong, that's enough for them, they aren't out to understand power gaps Women don't have this priority in logic, their interests are other things. And no matter what you do, you will never get them to understand it either. We guys don't understand some of what they're into either if that puts it to perspective. And I say this from experience-- like my sisters would watch Inuyasha, and the power gaps were ridiculously huge between say, Inuyasha and Naraku, or Sesshoumaru, or etc. They don't care about that, they just want to see their husbando on screen, and if they think they'll win, they'll win just because they're their favorite. That's how they view the world. It's funny because Kishimoto even understood this too, and showed it in Sakura's personality as an example. Whenever Sasuke was about to get his ass beat, Sakura never viewed it like that, she just had full confidence he'd win because "he's dreamy, he'll find a way" Guys, that pisses me off when they think like that, but that's the world we live in.
@@ElKabong3345bad take, though statistically true mostly men watch dbz, me and my girl watch it and she understands that shit, though I guess she’s also the most competitive girl I know lmao
@@bruhmoment341 There are exceptions to the rules in psychology, I personally like dating women that understand this more as an example. When you do takes like these, like anything in psychology, you aren't going to nail a psychological profile to 100% of the population. It's not a math problem or a law in physics where you provide an answer that it'll always yield that answer to the entire population, that's the wrong way to go about this. You can follow a pattern, and then see if that pattern follows in behavior.
If there was a hope that there would be a Dragon Ball series that replaces Super, then I hope that in the next series, they tone Chichi's annoying and overprotective attitude down a little bit. She can still keep it, but it shouldn't be that annoying.
Its not that she wanted him not to. She was like your whole life is going to be studying and why would you care about that monster. She was referring to piccolo who just saved her son. She didn't listen for two seconds. Anime chi chi has no redeeming qualities.
@@kyleanderson449 I know. I think that after Z, Chichi should stay similar to how she was at the end of Z, except she should say that Goten can go train as long as he doesn't fall behind in his classes
The whole disagreement came from Gohan seeing Piccolo die to save him, and Chi Chi having only known Piccolo as Demon King Piccolo, a legitimate threat that was willing to take over the world. Gohan knew he would be facing immense danger and was scared of both his mom and the task, but his heart told him he could not live knowing he didn't do everything he could for someone that would do the same for him. It took real courage for him to put his foot down and go anyway. Courage that he would need for the future.
Chi Chi is an amazing wife! She just wants what's best for her family. She's an overprotective mother, and has a high tolerance level. She's a great source of comedy.
If by great comedy, you mean run the same damn joke into the ground for 30 years. Then continue to do so after the DBS anime exposed it to be A COMPLETE FUCKING FARCE!
@@Violent_Wolfen I agree about the "joke". that dead horse has been beaten into a bloody mist. I agree with everything else OP said though. (also Chi-Chi is fine as hell idegaf)
Excellent video as always Scholar. Chi-chi is definitely one of those characters you appreciate more when you get older and mature. It's a shame Toriyama doesn't see her truth value which you so perfectly displayed in this video.
Bro, you’ve been on a roll with these videos, and oh yeah, count me in as part of the Chi-Chi support force! She’s truly a wonderfully rounded character, and funnily enough, my final video of 2021 was a dedication to her.
please guys if you really want to help me... make stories about how chichi returns to be a warrior princess with better powers and techniques just so the creators will see that chichi has been underestimated. you guys are good at your content i need help from fans.. chichi deserves a change 😊
Something that I think TFS did right when it came to Chi-Chi's portrayal, despite the jokes(because it is a parody), they showcased that Chi-Chi was a force to be reckoned with. Or, at least it was implied, considering she was the only person EVERYONE feared. Say what you want about Super Saiyans or whatnot, there is nothing angrier than a pissed off mom trying to protect her family and the crew in TFS knew that.
Even in the fan comics they either portray Chi Chi as the nagging wife, mean mother but the worst are when they portray Chi Chi as someone who only wants Goku to “be home and be with her” and “would sacrifice the world just to have her husband with her” No Chi Chi would not sacrifice the world for for her son She would sacrifice HER world for her son!
Chi Chi is a great person. She may be very strict and she may be annoying or unreasonable at times(I don't know much about parenting, so what do I know?), but she is a very caring mother and a supporting wife. She never held Gohan back. Gohan was genuinely interested in becoming a scholar and he enjoyed studying. Chi Chi is a very funny and important character and is similar to Bulma in some ways. Something that is often overlooked is that Chi Chi was the strongest woman in the world before Android 18 was turned into a human.
I really love this, and wish Chchi continued to fight in some small ways. Yea she isn't going SSJ4 but, she could have kicked some Freeza force grunts or something. Her bravery against Buu when she thought she had lost so much was amazing
Hey Saiyan Scholar, I also agree with you that I think it's unfair that the fandom gives her a lot of flak just because she didn't want Gohan to fight. She is a mother after all, so it makes sense that she doesn't want her child to get hurt. I love Chi-chi, it's just the only times were Chi-chi truly pissed me off was both in Super. One was when she didn't want Goku to train with Whis so that Goku can spend more time with Pan, which would essentially screw them over in the Frieza fight. At this point, Goku has a job as a radish farmer, and I mean sure it probably doesn't pay that much but at least he's contributing financially. Goku also loves his family and is willing to protect them by training and becoming stronger to prepare for the next threat. It also didn't help that he got clapped by Beerus at the end before this scene. Goku also make compromises too. That's why he let Gohan be a scholar, even though he probably wants Gohan to be a fighter like himself, and he spends enough time with his family as he can. He loves them, he loves Pan too. I feel there's nothing's wrong with Goku having a balance life of training, working, and family, he earned it. It's just Chi-chi was really unreasonable in this instance. Gohan gave her a legitimate reason why it's important for Goku to train with Whis, but she still wouldn't budge, and it's sad that a child like Goten was also the voice of reason. Still, she wouldn't budge. And number two was when she bogard the decision-making regarding Pan's future whether or not she wants to be a martial artist when she grows up. She didn't even want Gohan to make a decision on Pan's future and that's the girl's own father. 😤 I mean I agree with her that Gohan and Mr. Satan shouldn't play rough with Pan giving the fact that she's still a baby, saiyan genes or no, I just feel that she went too far, especially locking herself, Pan, and Videl in a room where Gohan and Mr. Satan couldn't get to them. At the end of the day, it should be between Gohan and Videl on how they want to raise Pan.
ChiChi has had a rough life. Her son was kidnapped by Raditz, her husband was killed by Piccolo while he was fighting Raditz, her son was then kidnapped by Piccolo for a whole year, then more aliens attacked, her husband came back to life only to be hospitalized by one of those aliens. Her son was also hospitalized by said alien. And then her husband and son went off into space for a good long time, her husband was presumed dead for a while, and then came the warning about killer robots. For three years, she had to look over her shoulder, worrying about when said robots might attack. And then, her husband (he’s back btw) fell deathly ill. And then, the monster called Cell appeared, beat up her son, and killed her husband! Again! And he stayed dead for seven years this time. She had to be a single mother to her two children for seven years. Not to mention the fact that she missed another year of her son’s life while he was in the time chamber. And then, she got eaten by some pink monster. And then her sons were absorbed into said monster. And then her husband became a antisocial martial artist who spent all his time training, and then he left her to go train some kid for five or ten or how ever many years. And then her husband was turned into a child! Let’s not forget the whole magic water thing where she was mind controlled and turned against her family and friends. Her son got beat up that time too. ChiChi didn’t deserve any of that.
Tbh Chi Chi wouldn’t had dealt with that if she married within her race let’s not act like Chi Chi came into this completely oblivious she knew exactly what she was getting into she knew that Goku wasn’t human she knew that goku was fighter first and everything else came second the moment she asked him to marry she understood that was the life she was getting into if she wanted a normal life than marry someone who doesn’t come from a alien planet of warriors her issue is she tries to raise Gohan as a normal boy but we all know normal is not what gohan is he can try his hardest to be a successful scholar or whatever but as long as he has saiyan in his blood his life will never fully be normal
@@DonJulio1942 you say that like she knew that from the beginning- Even Goku didn't even know he was a saiyan, not until Raditz came in the picture. He even reject his own Saiyan blood at some point- So how could she know ? The woman just happened to know and tried to coped with it. At some point heavens, she did.
@@DonJulio1942 Besides no one knowing Goku was an alien until Z, Chi-Chi also witnessed her fiance nearly dying to save the world right after getting engaged. Which is probably the main factor in her wanting to quit the martial arts lifestyle, and Goku was pretty content with that and didn't train much for like 5 years until Raditz showed up, then several years of non stop training and fighting until he and ChiChi reach an understanding (somewhat) during the android saga. Keep in mind, their whole relationship moved fast, they knew each other as kids, met again as barely adults, and got married instantly. There was a lot they had to learn about each other after the fact.
Back in Dragonball she was once a martial artist who even though she was more than capable of holding her own, she (as an average human) has shown to go somewhat go toe to toe with Goku (despite that he held alot back). She had alot more guts in this time; but in they water her down so much, in that aspect she had Gohan which as a mother I understood why she does things the way she does, but she needs to understand that she was a fighter herself and if something were to happen to her or her son (Gohan is capable of handling himself) she will have to fight to survive it either her life or the evil that will take over the planet. What's yall view on this?
@@Thrakus for me in the android and cell saga at that point it was 18 being the strongest female next to ChiChi followed by Videl (since Super made GT canon) Pan comes in after 18. So in terms of the female fighters 18, Pan, Videl, and ChiChi. What's your take?
She's not average, she's the Ox King's daughter. She hurt Goku when he was a kid, by chucking (a piece of) her helmet at him, when bullets still bounced off his skin. She's strong as hell, and honestly, she'd kill a regular, human husband if she got angry
@@johannesstephanusroos4969 It's a piece of her helmet that she threw.. she didnt swing it or anything, it's just a really strong piece of a hard rock helmet..
So shame that Akira hated her but seeing her as a fan in Dragon Ball franchise it's like a perfect mother for Gohan it's like just because scolding doesn't mean Chi Chi is trash it's because she scolded both Goku and Gohan because she love them and she needs to make sure that always not go into trouble
She tells her children "If that's what you want to do, then that's what we'll do" no matter what. She supports her children, and she's fine with being a housewife.
I’ve always liked Chi chi. She may be overzealous and sometimes a caricature, but at heart she’s a neglected housewife and mother trying to do the best for her kids.
14:03 If Goku and Bardock are anything to go by, a standard Saiyan has a smaller emotional range than Earthlings do, even being incapable of feeling romantic attachment or simple familial ties so the human side of a hybrid can bring out the full potential of the emotionally boosted Saiyan physiology. Chi-Chi's physical strength isn't the important thing to keep in mind. It is her emotional intelligence. The same goes for Bulma's contribution to Trunks.
I used to hate Chi Chi and prefer Bulma. But now that I'm older I appreciate her so much. Gohan would have been a bum without her. And she basically carried the family. The people who hate Chi Chi obviously don't appreciate responsible parents. People with dads like Goku have serious emotional problems and other issues. What a shame.
So hating a toxic narcissist like Chi Chi who doesn't care if the Earth is destroyed, and all humanity is exterminated which would cause both Chi Chi and her family to die turned into space dust, supposedly is "not loving responsible parents", and without a doubt Chi Chi is "a very responsible mother" when she says that she doesn't care if the Earth is destroyed.
@@PaladinMetalero777 these are the types of things anyone could say despite not meaning it , u can even that yourself when goku asks her even if the earth is destroyed it's clear she does not have any argument against it so she starts whining like that to prove her point that she does not care which is completely bullshit by the way even goku understands it saying you are kidding right. 🙂
@@madhursaxena2645 Chi-Chi has not only shown with words but also with actions that she cares little or nothing about what happens to the Earth in order to impose her priorities and worldview of life on Goku and his children, and that could be seen when Chi-Chi tried to prevent Goku from going to train with Whis on Beerus's Planet, because Chi-Chi wanted to force Goku to stop training and be the type of "normal and ideal husband" that suits his priorities and worldview, thus endangering not only the Earth but the entire Universe and therefore his Family for which he claims to care so much, and Gohan himself told Chi-Chi that it was necessary for Goku to go to train on the Planet of Beerus to be ready for any threat that wants to destroy the Earth, but Chi-Chi did not want to listen, but she wanted to impose her wishes at all costs, and then they wonder why Chi-Chi is a hated character.
Chichi actually does not deserve most of the hate, oh wow she wants Gohan to grow up to be a dependable and smart competent guy, how evilllll. LOL. The only thing i would say is really bad is the time she said that gohans school work is more imporant than saving the world, its clearly intended to be a joke, not by chichi but by toriyama, but that Chichi said that in story is probably why she gets so much hate
The hate she gets is because by acting that way, she shows to everyone that she doesn't care if the world gets destroyed as long as Gohan gets a career...which in the context of Dragon Ball, it DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. What good will having a career and being smart in science in a world that is destroyed do to Gohan? Doesn't help that in the anime she said EXACTLY THAT. And Super made her worst: Beerus can destroy the world if he wants, and only Goku and Vegeta could even pose a defense. And what does she does? Orders Goku to not train, and be a farmer. Woman, the God of Destruction could end the whole world, with your sons in them, and you refuse to let your husband, the one who could protect you all, train to become stronger? If she wanted a normal life, why the hell did she married Goku in the first place?
@@Saiyan0X She doesn't want a normal life, she wants a life where she doesn't have to worry about her children getting killed all the time. She knows Goku can defeat most enemies, and Gohan doesn't want to fight for a living. As for your point woth Beerus, he has already "destroyed" the earth. And he shows no interest in destroying the planet since it contains food he likes.
Chi-Chi's treatmeant in DBZ (especially) and DBS was always so bad. To play her off as the nagging wife was always annoying. She clearly wanted the best for her kids and tried her best, her main fault is that she's an extreme helicopter parent. But with a husband like Goku you can't blame her for going overboard, because Goku wasn't helping. And honestly if you look at Gohan now, she did a great job and deserves credit for Gohan being well-adjusted (and Gohan knowing what a healthy romantic relationship is, because his dad never kissed his mum) As for the excuse that Gohan was needed in certain fights. If the adults weren't so stupid and reckless, most fights post-Freiza would have ended early without the need for his help.
Do you remember Dragonball GT when Baby a toffle and a villain who possessed Gohan and Goten and see that Chi-Chi who was weaker than Gohan and Goten but see how much respect that they had for their mom had respected their enteral feelings and did not disrespect their mom?
To defend Chi-Chi Goku was only around for about 7 years of Gohan's life up until the Buu Saga. Even after the Buu Saga Goku's barely even around his family. Goku didn't even know his second son was born. During the Buu Saga Goku chose to save Hercule & Dende over his own kids which even Vegeta thought that was absurdly stupid. I admit that Dragonball doesn't show Chi-Chi in a good light. Not to mention that Gohan could hold his own intellectually with Bulma. Goku chose to stop fighting Cell and send in Gohan
It gets worse when you think about how Goku could talk to Chichi or his kids at any time via King Kai but only did when a martial arts tournament came up.
Goku saved Hercule and Dende because they needed to use the dragonballs to wish everyone and the earth back to life, if Dende died then the dragonballs would have died with him
On that last note, what goku did then and there was extremely stupid. As cell was already quite tired, gohan could have either defeat him in normal form, or weaken him to a degree where trunks and vegeta could easily deal with him. Im a guy, but if i was in chi chis place, id also be like "goku who? I only have gohan" after its over. Goku was also strong enough to defeat fat rubber and no one would have died, but no, he holds back and wants the kids to deal with him, which allows him to return to stronger forms, where he becomes universe level threat again.
Chi-Chi is canonically the only character that is more powerful than Goku and can beat him in a fight. She's the only one that Goku genuinely fears. And if they did ever get in a fight she could probably make him surrender without lifting a finger.
Really? that scene in super chichi was beating goku up when he wanted whis to train him and when whis was leaving, he just took her hands off of him as if saying 'ok that's enough'
I always hated how ppl blamed ChiChi for Gohan getting weaker when in reality gohan got weaker CAUSE GOHAN GOT COMPLACENT DURING PEACE!!!!!! Vegeta even tells Gohan in the Manga "You need to train even during times of peace" So no it's not Chi-Chi's fault Gohan got weak, IT'S GOHAN'S FAULT HE GOT WEAK!!!!
I dont understand why some hate chichi so much, she is an amazing character. And even better mother. They judge how she reacts, but she had very good reason. She was simply protecting her family's future because her husband wouldn't do his role and be a good father. He'd rather train instead of spending time with his sons. He got on Goku case because she had to, he had very little life skills, and no proper priorities in life.
Its really weird when I was a kid I hated chi chi like crazy but now that am order she's become one of my favourite characters because she's a mother who wants the best for her children and wants to make sure they will Succeed in life you can't blame her for being Grumpy having a husband whos dum and battle hungry can be stressful
funny thing is their was a filer ep of dragon ball that chichi wanted goku to get a drivers license and am like but you can drive chi chi just get a car
If Chi Chi's toxic Banshee really wanted the best for her children, she should logically be concerned about what happens to Earth since if Earth is destroyed both she and her children will die in space dust, and she wouldn't be a stumbling block. for the training of Goku and his children, but Chi Chi cares little or nothing that the Earth is destroyed as long as Goku and his children fulfill her whims, which shows that she is a crazy, hypocritical and selfish woman.
@@PaladinMetalero777 my question is why did she marry goku when she knows what kinda life he leads, he was never an ordinary boy, she comes off as a spoiled Brat who played fighter to get close to goku then trys to change him, goku was better off with bulma or just being single
Like, I think the biggest fault of Chi Chi is that she didn't divorce Goku. Granted, Goku has a job in Super, but that only sometimes is true. For Kami's sake, Goku is a good person in heart, but a terrible dad and husband (at least in Super). He has issues in Z, too, but at least in Z he had some self awareness about stuff and tried to correct his mistakes, and didn't have as much of a choice in most of Z anyways. He did still think of people in Z and make choices and sacrifices that were actually quite human in Z and Classic Dragonball. He gave up his Dragonball to Upa to revive Bora. He thought staying dead was better after Cell dies (it was a mistake but one based with historical accuracy) and believed in the next generation much like Roshi did with Krillin, Tien, Yamcha, Chiaotzu, and Goku previously, and sort of like Chi Chi does in her own way. Goku believed the next gen should have fighters to defend, and Chi Chi wants more cerebral futures for the next generation. Gohan is a blend of both sensibilities, even if the writing struggles to have that part shine. Goku was of course poorly prepared for the world since the first episode of Dragonball ever, so his animalistic tendencies didn't ever truly fade. He bites his foes often. The issue with Goku is that while he has improved overall, his mental growth is stunted in everything except fighting (reversed even further in some of Super... Even Early Dragonball Goku wasn't as ignorant as some of Super Goku.
I like chi chi in dragonball, but when it came to dragonballz and dragonball super, they made it worse for because it seemed like she doesn't like goku for who he is, which is her fault for not understanding him. Plus whenever something happens to goku, instead of feeling concerned or sad for him, she just gets mad at him almost every time. Another thing to note is that she took advantage of goku because of him being navie and dumb and yet, she still gets mad at him because she didn't understand goku.
While I don't think Chi Chi could have kept up as a fighter (Goku knocked her out with the wind of a punch he really held back on, and even said he should have held back more), it would be nice to see her have more of an active role in the story. The problem is that Dragon Ball only concerns itself with fighting, and only people who can contribute to said fighting get to be part of anything. The only reason Bulma's still around is because she can make machines that facilitate more fighting; Chi Chi's only skill besides fighting is being able to manage a three-Saiyan household (which is dedinitely impressive, but not relevant to the aforementioned fighting), so for as much as we all want her and the other OG characters to make a resurgence, it's almost certainly not going to happen.
U keep posting W after W bro and I love it. If I was a guy, I'd want a girl as loyal as Chi-Chi. She always loved Goku and her strict nature is just her way of showing her love for her and her kids. (I'm genuinely convinced Gohan got his rage boost from her lol) You really are one of the most honest UA-camrs and you actually know your stuff unlike some on Dragonball and it shows, keep it up!
Ngl I used to think chi chi was hella annoying, but after watching this and seeing all of the great points made, I'm sold. Chi-chi is severely underappreciated not only in the fanbase, but in the DB universe as a whole. It's sad seeing her go from being a promising character and mother, to more or less a bit in Super. Hopefully Toriyama improves his writing for her character and the series as a whole, but I don't see it happening. Great video!
The main reason Chichi is behaving like she does in DBZ is because she saw Goku tortured by Piccolo in the 23rd Bodukai Tournament in Dragonball. So no wonder she didnt want Goku and especialy Gohan to fight and get tortured like that.
Dragon Dissection has a great ep discussing Chichi. To steal a line from him "the anime ruined Chi Chi", she's much more tolerable in the manga. Making her the over the top mom who's loses it over the littlest distraction from Gohan doing school work was easy filler scene material for the anime writer in need of an easy joke or scene to pad for time
Chi-Chi is my second favorite character right behind Future Trunks, because she's one of the most realistic characters in the series and I like the fact that her is a super strong alien and he still fears her when she's angry.
Well she IS the strongest woman in the world, not including androids, half aliens, gods and all that, but I really wish she didn't retire until the end of the Saiyan Saga at the very least, she has grown so strong in only 3 years of training with Gyumao, so only imagine how far would she go if she trained with Kami or even went to Namek afterwards or maybe trained with Kai-Oh in case she died. She's a beauty AND a beast in one.
I love her moment in super (goku black arc). Its the flashback to what black did to them- but when chi-chi realized something was up she put Goten first, picked him up and ran even if it was pretty pointless to do. GOTEN the one who can do fuzion and turn super saiyan. She wanted her baby safe 😭
I have a theory that during the five year gap between the Piccolo Jr and Raditz sagas, Goku and Chichi would spar together before and after Gohan was born. It helps to lend credence not only to Chichi's character but also provides an explanation as to why her training with Goten was so effective. Her sparring with Goku would make her much stronger and effectively strengthen Goten at a much faster rate.
If she cared for Gohan she would use the dragon balls to make him 'undefeatable' or 'Immortal that cannot be trapped' or something like it. But we know the dragon balls cannot be used for anything useful beyond reviving people or restoring the planet, so Chi Chi can't because the writers won't.
ChiChi: I refuse to let my son train to become stronger so he can fight evils that can destroy the world! He needs to study and have a job!!! *Androids destroy the world* Me: Well...how can Gohan get a job when everyone is dead?
@@Saiyan0X That doesn’t make any in-universe sense. Goku has defeated every evil from ChiChi’s point of view. Future Trunks came (easily killed Freiza) and said that the androids won because Goku had a heart condition. He gave them medicine, said Gohan wasn’t strong enough to fight them, and peaced out. It wasn’t Gohan’s job nor ability to save the world, it was Goku’s and he was known to be stronger. Plus they had Vegeta and Piccolo who ChiChi knew to be incredibly strong.
She genuinely is a character that is not afraid of anyone when it comes to being protective. Galactic, Universal, Multiversal, Outerverse, Boundless Infinity. She can stand in front of them and be emotionally unfazed. And yes if she trained with Goku she would easily reach a few levels below current Android 17 and 18, just because she is human.
Honestly Saiyan Scholar, this video dissecting and analyzing Chi-Chi as a character is inspiring me to make a story alike to her cause she is an awesome mother! 😊❤️ She reminds me too of my own mother, where she is pushy for me to do specific things, but is still willing to support and love me for instead of going to college I go down my own path ◕‿◕
yes, chi-chi made gohan study, but thats because she was supportive of Gohan's dream of becoming a scolar!! what happend when Chi-Chi found out the private tutor was using a whip on Gohan...she lost her shit and beat the man to a pulp!! the true love of a supportive mother!! Chi-chi is a great character!
We have to understand the things chi chi has to deal with she lives with a ignorant, insensitive and fight obsessed who leaves his family to go train and leaves chi chi to raise two children on her own so think about it who deserves who here
At the end of the Saiyan saga, didn't she stay with Goku while he recuperated in the hospital? In the android saga, Did she stay by his side when Goku got the heart virus? Chi Chi is a Saint
Chichi is literally a princess, plus if Goku had become Guardian of Earth she would have also been a goddesses as well! Wouldn't need to worry about money then, or if thet just dug a bit in pan mountain to get their wealth back. Bulma, Chichi, and Videl are criminally under used! Chichi should have been a warrior like the rest. I always thought having Baba train her with magic could have given her something more than just raw power which she has a lot of anyway.
Chichi was so fun pre-Z, her & Goku on that Annin filler adventure is something i wish we got in Z, She was sort of flanderized in Z, her good qualities being overshadowed by her unbridled fury, But she always has had her husband & 2 sons future in mind Getting Goku to use his power for jobs, giving Gohan an education & even training Goten when Goku was a bit ded (he got better )
I feel like these days fans appreciate her and the undervalued characters more. I think we also wish better for them because we see the writing focus rapidly dry up for side characters upon rewatching the series. We know now more than ever that if Toriyama wanted to her could easily have the undervalued characters get expanded abilities. For example have someone wish on the dragonballs that some of the human Z fighters gain the capacity to hold their own in a battle against alien threats! (The capacity to do so at least so they could very well learn and become much stronger) Why not? Get them plot relevant rather than being background characters.
Dude, thank you so much for giving her such recognition. You mentioned countless things I never stopped to consider in all the years I’ve been a fan of Dragon Ball. Honestly gave me some insights into real life in general here too. Chi-Chi is a real one. Respect the name 😤
When Goku married Chi Chi and after watching the filler they both go together in and adventure I thought that throughout Dragon Ball Z they would go on adventures together after being disappointed with the treatment they give the character of Chi Chi. As a kid I always blamed the old witch in that filler for turning Chi Chi into a housewife lol.
Very very good analysis on Chi Chi. I feel I understand her character more. Never hated her though. Always thought she was a tough powerful woman, wife, and parent.
I’ve always loved chichi I fell in love with her character when she threw Gohan’s tutor through the window then chased after him I didn’t start at the beginning like the majority of people but during the garlic jr saga to the end of the cell games on dvd In my opinion she outranks Bulma by a landslide in character and her barrage actions
Let's also bring up Chi-Chi and Goku conceived Goten during the 10 day gap of the Cell Games when Goku was a Mastered Super Saiyan that kinda shows Chi-Chis durability
I don’t understand for the life of me how ever other girl in this series has been given so much attention and love except for chi chi. Like why? GT shower chi chi can be even more hot than Bulma. Not just that but that women has more patience than whis to deal with gokus antics for all these years and still adore him. Bulma and 18 always get the spotlight and even new females like cheelai, it’s time chi chi gets some love to poor women apparently never even kissed her husband but had 2 kids with him 💀.
I fucking love Chichi! I don't blame her for getting mad about Gohan fighting. Before Goten was born, Gohan was her only child and she wanted him to be safe. She wanted him to have a safe wellbeing just like any other parent would want for their children.
Thank you for this video. I think understanding Chichi requires some growing up and some putting ourselves in her shoes for a moment to see that she isn't the monster everyone thinks she is. I'm also proud of being her fan, and now I've become yours as well. Keep up the good job! Your videos are very good!
Chi chi gets hate for no reason. Can you imagine your only son going off into the cold unknown of space to run hands with murderous aliens with no way of knowing if he's ok?
i'm surprised most think chichi is annoying. Because she is my favourite character since i began watching the show. She is one of the most funniest for me esp when she shouts at Goku, I just fall off my bed🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Chi-chi is more of a character that while not a bad person and certainly isn’t a bad mom her general personality and view on certain things in the show comes off very strange. Chi chi isn’t wrong that her sons need to be educated and that you need to be a more well rounded individual to succeed in life , the problem is that the Dragon ball universe isn’t realistic in the slightest my beef with her in the past was that she placed more importance in education vs the fate of the universe which simply is baffling to think about
I'm admittedly only a casual watcher, who would sit down to watch an episode whenever I happened to see one on, but never really go out looking for them. But Chichi was always the character I was most excited to see on screen, ever since I was little. It was actually really surprising to me when I grew up and realized that there were people out there who didn't like her. And I was delighted to find this video. Thank you for making it!
25:24 Goku lacks the emotional capacity to make the choice to do otherwise. Toriyama decided to go the other way from what most writers would do when they have alien protagonists, making them the most human as if biology plays no role in personal development whatsoever. Vegeta is from the royal bloodline so he has an emotional range closer to that of a standard human. What makes Broly the true Super Saiyan is that he has hyper active capacity for interpersonal relationships of the sort that the lead character himself does not have access to. To him, his father was actually a father, not just a sperm donor who watched him grow in a tank.
I suppose that I never shared in this contempt for Chi-Chi since I got into the series as an adult watching it along with the children that I looked after. I was more of the sort who laughed at how comically inept Goku was as a father and how Chi-Chi was the only one holding their family together (and that is before Toriyama gave everyone greater context to Goku's lack of parenting skills that come from his literally not understanding the Earthling concept of Family). Chi-Chi helped to ground the series a bit with someone who behaved more or less like a real person would in her circumstances even if played up for comedy.
Chichi is god tier woman. A woman capable of doing almost anything she wants on earth but just chooses to raise her family and live a simple life. All while being a babe. A babe that is married to one of the strongest beings in the universe, and birthed another one.
Chi Chi is quite the fiery and determined character! Chi Chi is known for her strong-willed personality and her desire for her son, Gohan, to focus on his studies rather than training. While her overbearing nature can be frustrating at times, it’s clear that she deeply cares for her family and wants the best for them. Chi Chi’s martial arts skills and her ability to hold her own in battles show that she’s not to be underestimated. I respect her strength and her role in the Dragon Ball universe. 💥👩👦✨
I agree and I've said it for years they could easily have thousands of episodes multiple mini series branching off of other characters and could have ample amounts of money because of it and instead we get one month at chapter a month
You made a good point about Gohan, a tween, wanting to go to space, half-dead/still injured, to go fight an adult (monster) that beat up his dad. What parent would be okay with that?
I remember as a kid, I used to hate Chi-Chi and blame her for why Gohan was scared during the Saiyan arc and not more like kid Goku. But after watching OG Dragon Ball into Dragon Ball Z, Gohan being scared had nothing to do with her. Kid Goku had training from grandpa Gohan, Roshi, Korin and Kami before facing his first world threatening villain. Not to mention the wealth of experienced he gained from fighting the smaller villains. Gohan had six months of training from Piccolo before facing off against two guys who could blow up planets with no problem. There was no way he would be ready in time. Honestly, every-time Gohan got trained it was rushed and in a time crunch. If anything it was the people who trained him that failed him more than Chi-Chi.
Dragon Ball era Chi Chi is just the cutest character. You can’t help but root for her to win Goku’s heart. It’s just a shame that the anime chose to portray her the way it did in the Z/GT/Super eras.
Let’s not forget that chi chi doesn’t have a formal education herself. She’s just as much a country bumpkin like Goku. Totally self-evident as to to why she acts the way she’s written.
MasakoX just did a chichi aprisiation What-If for the entire month, exploring what if she trained like Goku, when they just met in Dragon ball. And he also threw a lot of shade on the whriters for making Chichi a stereotypical housewife, just to throw in some cheap comedy in the 90's
That galaxy lamp would be perfect if you are drunk or high LOL😂😂😂 ChiChi definitly deserves more respect and she is a great fighter in her own right once again a missed opportiunity. Other than that a great video keep it up👍
I can see why people would hate Chi-Chi, and even I have some issues with her not for being an over protective mother but for just being so stupid for never being able to see anything outside of Gohan becoming a scholar and honestly being very hypocritical. as many people have pointed out in other Chi-Chi videos, how can Gohan become a great scholar of the world if there is no world? Trunks came back and warned them that earth was a virutal dead planet in his time with only a few thousands humans left. wasn't it obvious the world wouldn't need any great scholars? even then at first she was completly against Gohan training to stop that future from happening. She was also hypocritical in the Buu saga. She had always preeched nothing was more important then Gohan studying and not wanting him to become a muscle head like Goku and only surviving off of Tournament Prize money but then when her dads money was running out she was totally on board with him stopping his studying and going out and winning tournament prize money. Chi-Chi has a very diverse skill set and could easily get a stable job but nope she'd rather fill the sterotype of stay at home mom despite the fact both her sons are more then capable of looking after themshelves while she would work, then she has the nerve to get on Goku's case for not having a job and supporting his family
@BunBun By the time of Buu Gohan is already going to school on his own and we all know Goten is more the capable of taking care of himself but worse case scenario he could just go to Bulma's to hang out with Trunks while Chi-Chi worked. Plenty of parent's do that kind of thing, and honestly why not send Goten to school too then she could work while both her son's are out. If it was such a huge deal for Gohan to study and become a scholar why not Goten? Answer is by that point the Son family was running out of money and Chi-Chi didn't wanna have to get a job, again literally first 3 sagas while they had Ox King to support them she was all about Gohan needing to study no matter what but once money became an issue she's perfectly fine with going back on all that.
But in Super, she pushes Goten to study when he wants to train
@@benbriefs798 To be fair.. The kid still needs an education-not everyone can be Goku and never get a degree
Chi-Chi training Goten was probably her way of coping not having Goku around, who usually does the training.

I never understood why the writers stopped her martial arts. It would of been cool to see her learning ki control with her sons.

@devinreis5811 you never gone to therapy is guess because most of therapist sees that kind of parent as toxic...
@@MisterGoofy ✌️🧐
As someone who has been to therapy, you should know that perspective is a matter of choice. Like how Gohan chooses to focus on how dedicated & hard working Chichi is, instead of how shrill & naysaying she can be. Which is probably why he still has such love & respect for her as an adult/parent.
Chi Chi is possibly the most realistic character in the show, I feel like we all know someone a lot like her in our lives
She has her moments a lot. We all have our moments where we're running around like headless chickens.
The main thing I understood from Chi-Chi is that... she doesn't really understand the threats.
It's even worse because she can't read Ki either.
To Chi-Chi, she can't comprehend the gap between a Raditz and a Majin Buu, to her they're more or less the same.
If they think their man is strong, that's enough for them, they aren't out to understand power gaps
Women don't have this priority in logic, their interests are other things.
Whenever Sasuke was about to get his ass beat, Sakura never viewed it like that, she just had full confidence he'd win because "he's dreamy, he'll find a way"
Guys, that pisses me off when they think like that, but that's the world we live in.

Even in the fan comics they either portray Chi Chi as the nagging wife, mean mother but the worst are when they portray Chi Chi as someone who only wants Goku to “be home and be with her” and “would sacrifice the world just to have her husband with her”
No Chi Chi would not sacrifice the world for for her son
She would sacrifice HER world for her son!

P.S. if I missed anything it’s because I’m one of those trash fans who have only seen Z and Super, a flaw I shall soon remedy.

The only thing i would say is really bad is the time she said that gohans school work is more imporant than saving the world, its clearly intended to be a joke, not by chichi but by toriyama, but that Chichi said that in story is probably why she gets so much hate
I think Chi-Chi is also of the mindset that Goku can handle things and doesn't need to risk Gohan.
Goku was also strong enough to defeat fat rubber and no one would have died, but no, he holds back and wants the kids to deal with him, which allows him to return to stronger forms, where he becomes universe level threat again.
Normal form as ssj1
Chi-Chi is canonically the only character that is more powerful than Goku and can beat him in a fight. She's the only one that Goku genuinely fears. And if they did ever get in a fight she could probably make him surrender without lifting a finger.

@@killblom3969Ik I’m late but it neither of there fault goku said after they done with the android incident gohan can study
💚💜
funny thing is their was a filer ep of dragon ball that chichi wanted goku to get a drivers license and am like but you can drive chi chi just get a car
She could learn to fly or better yet not marry goku she could've just married yamcha he's nice and makes money
They destroyed her in the Anime.
@@SaiyanScholar true, i haven't read the manga as much, so i don't know if she is better or worse in the manga.
(I'm genuinely convinced Gohan got his rage boost from her lol)

Chi-Chi was gonna be the Chun-Li of Dragon Ball but of course Akira did jack shit with her character due to short sighted ideas and lack of vision.
@Knox2Don ChiChi's power level is 130 videl most likely isn't
Plus they nerfed her hard in super, I prefer how she looked in z
She also doesn't mind being the typical Japanese housewife and doing that her way.
I'm a woman, and I don't mind that she doesn't mind being the typical Japanese housewife. It shows that everyone has their own goals in life.
ChiChi: Can my 5 year not fight these guys that destroy planets?
Losers: Stop holding Gohan back!
*Androids destroy the world*
Me: Well...how can Gohan get a job when everyone is dead?

She reminds me too of my own mother, where she is pushy for me to do specific things, but is still willing to support and love me for instead of going to college I go down my own path ◕‿◕
yes, chi-chi made gohan study, but thats because she was supportive of Gohan's dream of becoming a scolar!!
what happend when Chi-Chi found out the private tutor was using a whip on Gohan...she lost her shit and beat the man to a pulp!!
the true love of a supportive mother!!
Chi-chi is a great character!
Yes she's a Great Character
We have to understand the things chi chi has to deal with she lives with a ignorant, insensitive and fight obsessed who leaves his family to go train and leaves chi chi to raise two children on her own so think about it who deserves who here
Being a kid is idolizing Gohan and hating Chichi, being and adult is understanding Chichi and idolizing Tien.
Or Idolizing Gohan and Chichi due to Gohan achieving his dreams and being a scholar, and Chichi for being a good parent.

You're almost at 100K subscribers bro! 👊
WE!
Chichi was so fun pre-Z, her & Goku on that Annin filler adventure is something i wish we got in Z,
She was sort of flanderized in Z, her good qualities being overshadowed by her unbridled fury,
But she always has had her husband & 2 sons future in mind
Getting Goku to use his power for jobs, giving Gohan an education & even training Goten when Goku was a bit ded (he got better )
This video proves that a lot of you just need to hug your moms while you still can.
I blame the anime for all the added filler scenes with Chichi's extreme hen-pecking
For sure. A little hen-pecking would be fine...if they gave her another more redeeming qualities.
Very very good analysis on Chi Chi. I feel I understand her character more. Never hated her though. Always thought she was a tough powerful woman, wife, and parent.
Yes I agree with you 100% Chi Chi deserve to be cut some slack, she also deserves some appreciation, support and respect.
I’ve always loved chichi
I fell in love with her character when she threw Gohan’s tutor through the window then chased after him
I didn’t start at the beginning like the majority of people but during the garlic jr saga to the end of the cell games on dvd
In my opinion she outranks Bulma by a landslide in character and her barrage actions
I feel like half of this fandom has watched Dragon Ball Z Abreidged more times then the actual anime. Most have never read the manga.
I've always liked Chi Chi, glad to see a positive video about her.
I fucking love Chichi! I don't blame her for getting mad about Gohan fighting. Before Goten was born, Gohan was her only child and she wanted him to be safe. She wanted him to have a safe wellbeing just like any other parent would want for their children.
At this point, Saiyan Scholar should just make a whole video solely dedicated to/displaying every "SHUT UP!" ever used to counteract an argument lol.
😂👑
Thank you for this video. I think understanding Chichi requires some growing up and some putting ourselves in her shoes for a moment to see that she isn't the monster everyone thinks she is. I'm also proud of being her fan, and now I've become yours as well. Keep up the good job! Your videos are very good!
I like her because she is exactly like my mother. Even in the martial arts part ❤
Something you: Saiyan Scholar and I would say,"It's not Chi Chi's fault, IT'S THE WRITERS FAULT.
Honestly as a kid my opinion of Chi-chi was like milk but as an adult it has become like wine.
Lol in the Spanish version her name is changed to milk
Chi chi gets hate for no reason. Can you imagine your only son going off into the cold unknown of space to run hands with murderous aliens with no way of knowing if he's ok?
And that was right after he was kidnapped for an entire year when he like 4 or 5 years old 😊
i'm surprised most think chichi is annoying. Because she is my favourite character since i began watching the show. She is one of the most funniest for me esp when she shouts at Goku, I just fall off my bed🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Chichi is the ideal wife IMO lol. I don't care how much I get clowned on, chichi is the one character I will simp for.
I agree, Chi Chi is awesome. While she may not be as flashy as Bulma and 18 and regard her as just a “house wife,” she is still cool.
And she's perfectly comfortable with that.
If Chi chi wasn't strong, Goku wouldn't be so afraid of her XD
We understand her, we just understand the other side as well. Plus, with how she handles it (especially her attitude) makes it hard to side with her.
EXACTL
She knows who she is, and is comfortable with it. She can kick anybody's ass, but she's perfectly fine with being a housewife.
I don't know if I would really consider Chi-Chi the strongest fully human female when Videl is certainly giving her some competition to that title.
A dbz fan that only cares about the fights would
I love Chichi, I hate the fact she doesn't have a bit of the Screentime Bulma has.
Always loved Chi-Chi, she was just screwed over like all the other characters.
How could you not like her? she takes care of the home and kids, cooks and gives mouth present.
Everyone loves Bulma but Chi Chi is the GOAL
MasakoX just did a chichi aprisiation What-If for the entire month, exploring what if she trained like Goku, when they just met in Dragon ball.
And he also threw a lot of shade on the whriters for making Chichi a stereotypical housewife, just to throw in some cheap comedy in the 90's
That galaxy lamp would be perfect if you are drunk or high LOL😂😂😂
ChiChi definitly deserves more respect and she is a great fighter in her own right once again a missed opportiunity.
Other than that a great video keep it up👍
Thank you so much! Yes! Haha
Bruh, the Buu's Fury OST awoken several core memories.
Y'all gonna have to admit, but Goku loves Chi Chi as much as he loves fighting
Chichi never annoyed me. The character introduced as Krillins girlfriend Maron was who I found annoying
ChiChi is a Chinese mother archetype and I love and relate to every second of her on screen
