I hate that the de-aged Trunks. He was a damn adult when he killed Cell. And the whole blue hair thing just created unnecessary inconsistency. Then he loses everything in his timeline. Every survivor, everyone in the afterlife, all wiped out. It was such a slap in the face to Trunks. I hate what Super did to Future Trunks.
@@dimitrijames00001 he was 20 cause he trained the equivalent of two years in the hyperbolic time chamber and he was 17-18 when he first showed up to kill Frieza
Trunks is my favorite character in DBZ. He’s the main character of the original timeline, and if this was any other series, he would be the focus. I still think his storyline would make an amazing show. I think he has more potential than Gohan, and I would love if the series did justice to that.
@@gravitysdemigod8830 if we're going with the main timeline then he's not alive he was killed by cell so cell could time travel back to the past before trunks showed up that's the true main timeline so there's no one to defend the earth
@@pokermitten9795 genetically gohan isn’t superior, they are even. They’re all 50% human + 50% saiyan. The writers simply always kept gohan around to give him fights. Whenever the writers keep trunks and goten around it’s for them to fuse and get their asses kicked. Neither goten or trunks ever had to fight for their lives beside their fight with buu. Gohan was put in that scenario time and time again since he was 4. Gohan grew up in times where goku and vegeta would lose battles causing him to step in. Examples being gohan(ape) vs vegeta , gohan vs frieza(not final form), gohan vs cell, gohan vs buu.
@@pokermitten9795 only because we saw him in his youth at four, the first time we saw trunks he was a pre teen, not only that but give them both the same training for the same amount of time ain’t not telling what he could do
I think what allows Gohan to have a different potential is more than just being a hybrid too. Man was trained by both Piccolo AND Goku for numerous years, on top of already having the hybrid potential. He had to adapt to the greatest threats in the universe as well which gives him a lot of exp that Trunks just doesn’t have. Even in Super, Gohan stopped training for a total of almost 10 years, yet surpassed Trunks by far, even though Trunks constantly trains.
I really loved android 16s speech to gohan in dbza. "You are not the only one who has suffered. I'm sure trunks has many stories he can tell you and they all probably end with "and then he died too""

Z Future Trunks is legitimately my favorite character in the show. He plays no games and had such a meaningful development in his character progression and those damn pipes that burst out of that purple jacket and turned it into a vest. @@joshualowe959 I mean they did forget the seal on the evil containment wave I mean they could of sealed away zamasu and ganged up on goku black but they all pretty much was all bullshiting leading to merged zamasu and then eternal zamasu to the entire damn timeline being erased
One of the most minor things that just bugged me SO MUCH was the change in his appearance, ESPECIALLY his hair but not exclusively that. It made no sense for his hair to change. Not only was it not necessary but now kid trunks is just… there. With purple hair. I get that’s he not important so it doesn’t “really” matter but the fact still remains that only future trunks had his hair changed. Yes it makes more sense than purple, but his purple hair was iconic, it was so recognizable because it was distinct. And oh gosh what were they thinking with the scrawny body. Not even during his first appearance was trunks that small. And this is a character that you absolutely cannot say “oh maybe he didn’t have the will to train”, the man knows how valuable strength is, especially in his timeline where he’s a lone warrior. I thought it’s would be really cool to see trunks again, but I think I would’ve rather had just the memory of him in Z than have his character be ruined in super 😭.
The short answer to this, is that Toriyama's Trunks had blue hair. The anime colored it purple, which he had no part in. The proof of that is in his designs for DB BOG where his kid trunks also had blue hair.
@@supersaiyanmel8352 because the anime did its own thing. Its like Vegeta when he first appeared, and he had red-ish hair and blue and orange suit. Or how Piccolo has 5 fingers in the anime while in the original story he had 4 fingers, or giving fingers to Super buu or kid buu whrn in the manga he just had mitten-like hands, the anime did its own thing sometimes. Sometimes they were corrected, sometime it wasnt corrected. I find it weird that the color of the hair bothers you, too. Fun fact, Bulma in the manga is supposed to have purple colored hair, and then the anime made it blue. I guess toriyama must have said "okay... i guess blue hair it is. Then he goes out of his way to make her hair blue, and then gives trunks blue hair, but the anime decides to portray his hair as purple, which was the color intended for Bulma's hair in the first place.
I felt for the guy after his timeline was permanently erased by Future Zen-Oh. Trunks was supposed built up to be as the “Warrior of Hope” as he’s the sole defender of his planet. I’ll also mention that his malnourished physique in Super may have something to do with the scarce amount of food (him and Mai had to munch on pet food), but it doesn’t affect his battle performance. The only consolation he has is Mai, whom he may settle down with.

plot... the crazy part is the sword still broke but since it was spat on by dabura i guess it didnt matter???? but they did trunks so wrong i hope they bring him back or at least tell us how the two trunks are doing
the only thing i can say was good was his power up! because i personally feel he should be stronger anyways especially because he was a ssj for longer! and despite not having a power up like gohan from the kai, goku didnt need one to defeat kid buu so he still could have been just as strong ykno? but i dont kno
The "normal" timeline has a litany of strong warriors who push each other to excel and be better, Trunks was pretty much alone in his. It would be ridiculous to me if he was on their level in that kind of environment. In combat sports too, your strength depends a lot on the strength of the people around you. Practice with weak people and you'll at most become stronger than the second strongest guy there, but the least strongest at a much higher level gym might still easily sweep you. Motivation alone is not enough.
@@Xeno455 all the people who couldve helped him (or did help him at some point, like gohan and Supreme Kai) get stronger are either abscent or dead, even in the DBS continnuation
@@datboi9539 Its an apocaliptic world. There is a huge lack of resources. In super, I think the time machine takes about 1 week to charge up. In Trunks timeline, it takes 1 year of charging for 1 trip. Im sure making a gravity chamber would be just as hard to build with whatever they had and even more so to turn on and keep it functioning. Trunks was a baby when everyone died. Goku gets his heart disease about the same time, then 6 months later, androids kill the rest of the fighters. Now, what you can argue is King Kai not getting involved, either with contacting with namek dragon balls, or to have goku tell Trunks about the Time chamber, or have Goku use his one day out of other world to fight or something.
Gohan's training was more like Gohan constantly being pushed out of his comfort zone, being encouraged, and then being rewarded with the respect and admiration of his mentors before doing it all over again. Where Trunks was just beat down and demoralized over and over and over. Plus seemingly being hated by his father (from his view) when meeting his father was the first thing he looked forward to in a long time. That COULD be motivating for some, but much more likely messed with his potential till long after the events of the Cell saga.
Future Trunks in Super was the final nail on the coffin of me having confidence in the show. It was just dumb fun till then that I didn't care too much for nor hated but after that...just...no. At the least, they could've ended it with Trunks win and letting him (and others) stay in the past. If you're going to erase his timeline at least keep him in the present story but noooooooooooooooooo
Money make people rush the product in which dumbs the quality of the of the product down. This saga made no sense and only watched it that one time straight through and only revisit my favorite moments. This bad writing make the Super Dragon Ball Heroes and Beyond Dragon Ball more valuable than the actual cannon fiction of the show. I've imagined better storytelling better in my head and was shaking it the most the time watching this saga and most the Super series.
I still strongly believe that dbs trunks is from a different time-line. He's the only one with blue hair, his personality is totally different than either version of him, he isn't the lone survivor of the z fighters (if you count yajirobi), he has a weird unexplained transformation in super saiyan rage and his sword is totally different.
Cell: LOOK AT ME IM TRUNKS. PLEASE LOVE ME DAD! See anyone can do it. Trunks: That's a terrible impression. Android 16: But not inaccurate. Trunks: WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE??
@Saiyan Scholar I mean super trunks was a meh for me I wasn't in total discust I like the black ark it's not the best ark it's just there as it is but It was kinda intruding with the survival adventure of it.
Future Trunks in Z especially in movie 8 and the bojack movie was always my favorite badass character. With the Jacket the long hair and get jacked when he turned super saiyan is so unbelievably badass. Dragon Ball Super throw those away made Future Trunks look like a crybaby made me cringe honestly and they should’ve done so much better
I hate how they destroyed trunks universe. When they did that, I feel like that destroyed his purpose which was to protect his friends, family, and home as its sole protecter. Now all of that is erased because of universal zamasu and the zeno button.
1:47 - 1:56 Trunks: "you think I'm a *nightmare* for my enemies??? You're wrong, *I am the true embodiment of fear for my enemies* " Edit: Hands down I liked dbs future trunks only for his super saiyan rage because he shows that even a "crybaby" can become dangerous when he wants to
I understand your sight of things, but let me explain, what I think, is the case: You see, in Episode 61, Goku Black & Zamasu condemn Trunks for time travelling, for changing the history, because (from their perspective) only gods would be allowed to do that. Trunks clearly wanted to change things to be better, than what he had experienced in the past. Trunks was indeed strong, but I think, he had that feelings of anger and guilt for a long time and to make it worse, those feelings were brought to him by an "evil version" of Goku, a person, who was originally supposed to be his friend and the final strike, that broke him completely, was, that he couldn't do anything against this foe, even, when using all his strength. Trunks's problem was not his physical strength, but his (again) broken mentality due to his experiences with Goku Black in his timeline. Don't underestimate, what psychological torture can do to a physical strong being. I also didn't get, why the writers chose to make his hair blue, but that honestly was no issue for me.
So hoping for the story of Future Trunks to continue. He was literally the coolest character of the show and is still my favourite character. Super needs to bring him back.
@Super Saiyan I think if that happened though like. Dragon ball has plenty of forgotten characters. Toriyama has enough trouble juggling his cast besides goku and vegita, and he didn't even like vegita. Tien is one of my favorite characters and he's basically fallen off the map, the only Z fighter that is even relevant really is piccolo, and that's because he gave gohan a movie. Toriyama is trying for sure, he's just bad at managing so many characters. Though I'm honestly wondering if he's gonna give humans a bone or not. Like imagine if he liked Tien. Tien could actually train the next generation of humans which both are sorely over due. Tldr: Trunks was going to be dropped no matter what choice he made
He still one of the best characters in the series and the very few that has common sense, aka not toying with your enemy. Also, even tho he doesn't have rage in the manga, I like that his SS2 form was as strong as "goku black arc," SS3 goku, at least we know SS2 trunks is above kid buu.... manga wise lol I hope the future world trunks went to he sees that worlds trunks and mai get killed by dabura, and our future trunks then kills that dabura making there only be one trunks and mai
@@Omnipulsar well SS2 goku never fought base goku black in the manga, SS vegeta fought SS goku black in the manga and was winning until black got a zenkai. But you can make the argument that vegeta's base was a lot higher than gokus in the black arc manga
about halfway through this video, I was thinking that the writers are scared of progression of any kind in dragon ball super constantly trying to remove any consequences from the series. when trunks came back to the past in dragon ball super they should have shown how he has really become his own man. I think that trunks and mei should have been married instead of just heavily implying that they like each other and leave it at that. I agree that he should have had a beard and should have acted more mature instead of running back to mommy and daddy to solve his problem for him. I think it should have been Trunks training to take down Goku black and not Vegeta. maybe trunks could have been the first super Saiyan 4 in dragon ball super. he could have had the kai's tell him about super Saiyan 4 and then use the dragon balls to get his tail back then maybe he can go to Vegeta to teach him how to control the oozaru transformation to complete his ascension to Super Saiyan 4. that would have been way better than what we got.
Super ruined everything for Trunks. For starters, he has the Ash Ketchum disease, he becomes too dependent on Goku and Vegeta, who couldn't even beat Black, his hair is the wrong color, and he gains a form that makes no sense. SSJ Rage? Should be something Gohan achieves. Trunks is supposed to be the defender of his timeline, yet he had to watch as his timeline got erased by a Stewie reject. This is NOT our Trunks.
I loved, and I mean loved, how Trunks was always a "no nonsense" kinda character. He got s*** done, son. In Super when Goku and Vegeta let Frieza destroy earth because they were giving him a final speech, Trunks from DBZ, wouldn't do that. No games. No small talk. No jokes. No showing off. No testing his limits. No pride. No letting the enemy get stronger just to have a better fight. He just cut right to the chase. And went for the kill. He didn't play with his food, if he was stronger, he immediately seized the means of production When he faced the Androids and Cell back in his Timeline, he did it with boldness, bravery, toughness and confidence. A a hardened war veteran who also grew up in the most dangerous ghetto in the city, and also went to prison for fifty years and saw some s***.... That's how Trunks personality came across. Just a "you don't wanna mess with this guy, if you're a bad guy" type of man. And that's the thing... In DragonBall Z, Trunks was a Man. In Super... They regressed him into a boy. And that, is a disgrace. We will always remember Trunks, as the Veteran. As the warrior. As the gangsta hood Bro, that didn't mess around. Not as a scared, crying, skinny, hipster dressing, blue haired, little sissy boy
I 100% agree, blue hair on trunks was bullshit and failure to pay attention to details, he had purple hair before and present trunks has purple, and he was far weaker in super than cell saga, future trunks at cell saga could have curb stomped zamasu
The struggle of everyone becoming a super sayian. Trunks losing everyone he cared about, vegeta filled with rage training harder than anyone has ever done, goku the last sayian the loss of his best friend. Then u6 sayians transform with a tingly feeling in their back....
13:19 This isn't a criticism or correction, it's just something I wanted to elaborate on. I agree that 16's speech and death was Gohan's trigger, but there's also something to be said about WHY it was his trigger, and was so effective. The reason is this: It was all a matter of psychology and philosophy. Gohan was mentally holding himself back through his sense of moral duty. He saw Cell, and every other villain he had faced up to that point, as living beings. Living beings with a right to life. He was pacifistic, and couldn't bring himself to kill. Even if it meant protecting others, his mentality was to find another solution. Plead with them if necessary, beg them to stop. 16 told him something very specific. Something that broke down these mental barriers and caused him to stop holding himself back. He told Gohan basically that he's right about life being truly precious, but it's for that very reason that it's not wrong to kill those who seek to kill others and can't be reasoned with. He doesn't need to hesitate against a monster like Cell with no respect or regard for others lives. This message alone wasn't enough, what drove the point home was Cell providing the additional push by killing the helpless 16 on the spot for absolutely no good reason, crushing him underfoot simply because he was tired of listening to him. It was in that moment that it finally got through to him what those words meant. Gohan's unwillingness to kill Cell was replaced with a sense of justice for those Cell had killed, and who he continued to threaten. Cell was a bully, and Gohan finally resolved himself to make him pay with his life. With his mental barriers holding him back demolished, the power was finally able to flow freely, surging out as though through a broken dam. This is what Trunks was lacking in the Cell saga. He probably did have the same potential, or maybe even a far greater one. However, what he lacked was the trigger to break down his mental barriers and let that power flow freely. Trunks is a different person than Gohan, with a different world view and general philosophy. What worked for Gohan wasn't going to work for Trunks, and because his condition hadn't been met to change his world view to one that would allow his power to flow, the Super Saiyan 2 form remained locked to him. The general theme around Super Saiyan at the time was that it was the power of the pure hearted. Individuals like Vegeta may be able to unlock the transformation and use it to bully others, but the form itself wasn't what granted it's true power. What made Goku so strong on Namek against Freeza, and then later what made Gohan so strong against Cell wasn't the Super Saiyan form or Super Saiyan 2 form by itself. It was the sense of justice in their hearts that strengthened their resolve and motivated them to fight at their absolute best, without holding anything back. To let the power flow freely for the sake of those they cared about, and everyone who had been wronged by the tyrants standing before them.
Yeah, future trunks' ending being his world being destroyed and him having to go to an alternative dimesion to never be seen again is an absolute gut punch and the worst dbs had to offer, its like the writters didnt have any idea of what to do with the story so they just rolled with it and used the first thing they came up with.
the fact that they turned no nonsense badass warrior into a whimp is a clear statement that they brought him back only for cheap cashgrab trunks comes back to his time and knows that any future threat will be on him to defeat babidi fails to resurrect majin buu and trunks... stops training apparently... instead of arms capable of bending titanium he has wet noodles instead of keeping his attitude he goes knees weak and what does he do? goes to past again but instead of going there to help or to prepare himself for the battle he goes to cry for help and then in his own goddamn arc the moment of glory it was all for nothing zamasu is everything and dragon ball super fanbase gets sumoned to erase entire arc from hapening after it happened
Trunks was turned into a wimp the moment he gave up and just asked cell to kill him Trunks never stopped training considering his ssj2 is as strong as ssj3 goku Unless you’re saying that ssj3 goku isn’t even cell saga level Kinda weird how no one give Him shit for getting knees weak against vegeta when cells trying to absorb 18, while trashing him for asking for help when he’s clearly outmatched after fighting him for months
@Adrian Scott Even Goku didn't have much of a personality change, in all seriousness. Goku was always carefree until it came time to fight. Only difference now is, ever since he became a SSG, he's been extremely arrogant (as pointed out by Whis) so hes a bit more playful.
Everyone fails in that convoluted mess of a Goku Black saga. It's such a waste of time and potential. The timeline was erased by Zeno and the conclusion was moot. Everyone who died, no longer exist in any way, shape, or form. Even the Afterlife was erased from existence. Future Trunks' timeline literally turned into a Linkin Park lyric, because "In the end...it doesn't even matter."
18:48 "...he should have been portrayed much stronger..." I disagree because instead of having the luxury to hone his fighting skills like other Z fighters, Trunks had to literally become a civil engineer and rebuild his whole city from rubble.
He didn't have to. There were other people who could rebuild the city even if maybe not as well. He was literally the only option as a fighter. It does seem pretty clear which he should have focused on.
@@Aquilenne Nah, he learned plenty engineering, evidenced by the fact he apparently learned the Spirit Bomb intuitively. After all, literally no one, not even Jiren could defeat universal Zamasu except Zeno.
Wait a minute I thought his favorite hobby aside from fighting was literally tinkering with machines , which means that it's something that he usually likes doing in his free time. So I'm pretty sure he wasn't forced into doing engineering. And I like how despite Future Trunks and present trunks being the same person, they have very little in common.
The first time I seen Trunks in DBS, I was very disappointed with the way he was portrayed, you would think after Z he would get development, but no, instead he is portrayed as this very emotional cry baby with so many ridiculous moments of asspulls, You would think after so many years pass Trunks would at least aged and gotten a lot bigger, but instead he de aged and looks a lot thinner, it is absolutely pathetic how Dragonball Super is turning out, I seriously want to like this series, but there is so many flaws for me to even care anymore.

If Goku Black met Z Future Trunks, his eyes would explode due to the badassery that Z Trunks emits. The long purple hair, and the giant muscles. Goku Black would know it would be a bad idea to fight him!
Neat vid! Liked the end the most (ofc with tears in my eyes). Though ONE small note to consider: the entire Saga in DBS about Trunks was to make Whis ask him to sacrifice himself and Mai to save ALL and EVERYHING else. In the end of DBS Future Trunks Arc he did become what we all wished since Gohan ate that horse, a hero.
I don't mind the blue hair sence I tell myself that he probably dyed it, but I love Future Trunks from DBZ. I even had a bit of a crush on him growing up (since he was cuter than the new one) but seeing the new Future Trunks, it's just heartbreaking. Like you said, he went being independent that traveled back in time to hang out and help out and being to stand for himself when his timeline needed him, to being a baby that needs to be bottle fed like all that training went out the window. I'm seriously hoping the new Trunks is from a different timeline
@@ctpp64 yeah but it would be great to have an animated series that is at least implied to be canon. DBZ is a multi-billion Dollar franchise so i don't see the harm in making a side series. Future Trunks and everyone else should have been permanently killed off like the writers originally planned to do in his timeline during the goku black arc but the writers got cold feet on following through with doing that because there would have been a massive storm of backlash on the ending since future trunks is a fan favorite character. I personally would have been mad too but loved the choice overall. Modern Dragonball needs to have permanent consequences to their deathmatch fights sometimes at the expense of modern fan appeal. It makes the anime more complete and worth watching when popular anime fan favorites actually and permanently die off. Plus seeing the aftermath of those decisions about fighting stronger opponents in the remaining characters left alive just for the love of battle. If future trunks and everyone outside of goku, vegeta, and those necessary to the overall DB Super storyline would have died permanently at the end of the goku black arc, that would have been a chef's kiss of perfection for modern Dragonball.
Ok who else thinks Gogeta v Zamasu should of happened for the reasons that Zamasu used potara a godly item that fuses people and the fusion dance is mortal technique would’ve made more sense and well if they wanted Vegito in the story put him in the Broly Movie and also the serious Fusion Reborn Gogeta v Zamasu so well we wouldn’t suffer aby retcon as well the rules of the dance os the same as the movie and Vegito v Broly could’ve been awesome but I digress love both fusions but Ssj4 Gogeta is supreme 😃🐒
Trunks's timeline being erased is the ultimate failure because trunks failed to protect his world even though it was dues ex machina the Goku black saga should have ended with the spirit sword slaying zamasu
Too bad he was used and turned into worse version of cabba. Like what?? If you wanna see the real trunks then see the dragon ball z kakarot game. That's where the real trunks relies.
Kakarot has so many issues though. I want to like it but there’s a lot of annoying stuff. Lmao also retconning Piccolo blowing up the moon is just lame.
This arc is where I lost all hope for DB Super. Before then I was excusing it with them having tight deadlines, and that they were remaking the movies, etc. I was exciting to return to the darker, more mature tone set by the original future Trunks' timeline. And then the rest of the arc happened. Ugh.
I wish Trunks had come back for the Buu saga, that he had someway to contact the main timeline and could help the guys when needed. He is a completely different character to Kid Trunks and had a lot to offer. In general, I wish him and Gohan had done more together, since they have such a special bond, it's only natural they should be closer, Gohan could look to him as a cool big brother and they could have fought together against Cell or something.
I think it's important to remember that Trunks, being a war orphan from an apocalyptic time, would have never been able to match the nutritional intake that Chi-Chi and Goku would have supplied Gohan with, and Gohan growing up as the son and student of Goku and his ex Piccolo would likewise present an insurmountable benefit for someone like Trunks, who is probably Gohan's near exact equal in potential had he ever been graced with the diet and lifestyle of a universe-level fighter from birth like Gohan got.
What could've been was reduced to merely "the SSJ Swordsman"... (sigh) tragic. His shirt was kinda cool I guess. Well said, Scholar & thanks for another great video! 👊😎👍
I still fondly remember how badass Future Trunks, was when he made is debut. Easily dispatching Frieza’s men, Casually stoping and holding Frieza’s Death Ball above his head, cutting Frieza into chunks with his badass sword, then blasting him away. To me, he was the coolest mf ever at the time. Definitely became my favorite character in the show. Then, I didn’t care much for Kid Trunks since he just wasn’t the same. GT Trunks was lame af. Then I got excited when I heard Future Trunks was coming back in Super!…and…well, we all know how much of a let down that was. It’s truly a shame that Toriyama and Funimation let such an awesome character like Future Trunks, to go to waste 😒
What if when Akira toriyama was writing and releasing dbz he told the original timeline with future trunks, had him go back in time, and then followed the new timeline? Who knows how people would have reacted to it but in hindsight it sounds really dope
This arc was by far the best arc in super. Yes Goku Black ended up being fodder and just a dog yes trunks ended up not being the guy we last saw but This arc actually felt like Z. Future Trunks finally cracked from all the pain he has endured over the years of his life. He doesn't have a master to train him or show him the way in anything. Everything he has done was from real life experience and when he finally came face to face with a "god" he didn't have any answers for how he handle any situation because it was off of pure instincts and grit. When I was watching this arc you could almost feel Trunks' pain especially when he was telling Zamasu he did what he did because he was only trying to help. Trunks is face to face with a god explaining he only did what he did to help his friend in the past not knowing he was disturbing the universe. You kind of feel bad for the guy but you understand his reasoning. In terms of the power scaling this is normal for dragon ball. Ass pulls happen every arc. I think the worst part about this arc is the way ultimately our guys failed. They failed trunks sent him off to another future and act like it never happened. This is the first time we have actually seen our guys drop the ball big time but I kind of like it but it could have been sooooo much better if this was going to be the last time we see Super Trunks.Dragon ball is wacky and we have to accept it.
I wonder how different the outcome woukd have been if vegeta trained with gohan while goku trained with trunks Or vegeta with goku and trunks with gohan. Those two scenarios would have been very interesting I think vegeta is the best when it comes to drawing out someones latent potential just as weve seen with him fighting cabba. Goku and trunks probably would have had phenominal success, as trunks never really had the greatest opportunity to train with someone who knew how to engage with him the right way. Goku obviously uses a lot more positive reinforcement and encouragement, which i think trunks desperately needed, as vegeta was not about that. He was set up for failure, but i think if he trained with goku the results would have been tremendous.
Future Trunks is my favorite character and I agree with a lot of the points on how they screwed up his character in Super here, I hate it too. But in fairness in regards to SSJRage, i'm pretty sure that is just an official name for his ultra form, since the grading system has been retconned.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought so. It just sucks that as cool as these concepts are, the execution was pretty bad, like they really did trunks dirty in Super.
Things like the Piccolo sacrifice and the Majin Vegeta callback in the ToP make me think "why make so many callbacks to DBZ if you just completely rewrite a DBZ character Trunks to the point he might as well be a whole other character?" Srsly tho there's no point trying to make us connect with Trunks if you slap a whole new shade on him where he isn't like his DBZ counterpart at all.

I think the character development in the metaseries is more complex than you say. I also love the Future Trunks/Zamasu/Black saga. That said, you're 100% right Future Trunks was a little cheesy at times. Hell downright disgusting.
A great presentation, as a returning fan who just recently finished watching super I feel that super doesn't have the impact that dbz had. Not the weight, or tension to the fights, sure animation quality has improved but it also feels quite sanitized, the gritty, bloody fights of the past are replaced with something different it seems

It makes sense, they’re both hybrid sons of a human and saiyan.
Gohan is genetically and experientially superior though so idk.
I'm sure trunks has many stories he can tell you and they all probably end with "and then he died too""
I loved DBZA mostly comedic and exaggerated char elements. That right there is one of my favs. That line would fit in the og DBZ as well.
Honestly, the very end of DBZA was really rivaling the quality of the actual show at that point.

With DragonBall there isn't really much of a link between muscle mass and strength. One didn't necessarily mean the other
The short answer to this, is that Toriyama's Trunks had blue hair. The anime colored it purple, which he had no part in. The proof of that is in his designs for DB BOG where his kid trunks also had blue hair.
@@LaneyTheOne true, it varies from character to character, but trunks was one of those characters that was built DIFFERENT

Edit: Hands down I liked dbs future trunks only for his super saiyan rage because he shows that even a "crybaby" can become dangerous when he wants to
I understand your sight of things, but let me explain, what I think, is the case:
You see, in Episode 61, Goku Black & Zamasu condemn Trunks for time travelling, for changing the history, because (from their perspective) only gods would be allowed to do that.
This reminds me I'm not over what they did with my boy trunks. 🤦🏾♂️

about halfway through this video, I was thinking that the writers are scared of progression of any kind in dragon ball super constantly trying to remove any consequences from the series. when trunks came back to the past in dragon ball super they should have shown how he has really become his own man.
Lmfao good fucking god no leave that furry trash ass form where it belongs 🗑️
Super ruined everything for Trunks. For starters, he has the Ash Ketchum disease, he becomes too dependent on Goku and Vegeta, who couldn't even beat Black, his hair is the wrong color, and he gains a form that makes no sense. SSJ Rage? Should be something Gohan achieves. Trunks is supposed to be the defender of his timeline, yet he had to watch as his timeline got erased by a Stewie reject. This is NOT our Trunks.

Super ruined everything for everyone.
He didn't play with his food, if he was stronger, he immediately seized the means of production
When he faced the Androids and Cell back in his Timeline, he did it with boldness, bravery, toughness and confidence.

I seen better stories, that handled trauma better than this, and plenty of characters had their entire family and friends killed, and gone through a lot worse than Trunks, they didn't turn into emotional cry babies, I swear DBS fans these days cannot conceptualize actual good story writing, but they like to make up pathetic excuses to defend shit writing, That reminds me, Jiren lost his entire family and they were all killed, but you don't see him turn into an emotional cry baby like DBS Trunks. lol
@@PrincessZelda2020
Didn't Jiren throw a hissy fit and attack Goku's friends in the stands when he started losing?
@@Wiki1184 Did you see him crying and dropping tears and giving up hope? Jiren throwing a hissy fit and attacking Goku's friends when he started losing is something I expected to happen at at some point.
@@PrincessZelda2020 bruh,I think having your whole entire timeline erased and having to live with a copy of yourself is pretty much up there in the no. 1 stop of bad things that could happen to you
Great Video ever since Future Trunks came back in super I wanted him to have influenced his past or younger self I guess I really liked his bad ass attitude he gave during Z but maybe I'm asking to much
I'll never forgive what super did to my favorite character future trunks!
I absolutely love how your videos get me thinking and seeing things in a different light. I had no idea about the connection of Zamasu to Lucifer and Future Trunks to Michael, that segment was very fascinating.. Thanks for making the content you make, good sir.
If Goku Black met Z Future Trunks, his eyes would explode due to the badassery that Z Trunks emits.
The long purple hair, and the giant muscles. Goku Black would know it would be a bad idea to fight him!
Goku Black would sneeze and wipe out Z Trunks. DBS Trunks was a SSJ2 and couldn't even keep up with him.
@@enterthekyuubi It was a fucking joke....
Learn how to take one....
@@Sawdog-vw6gz Jokes are suppose to be funny though. 😐
We can all just pretend DBSuper trunks Is from alternate Universe
The only way we can sleep at night 😮💨
YOUR INSIGHT ON TRUNKS IS SPOT ON!!!
I believe that the reason for future trunks blue hair is to show it's not the same future trunks we know and love
There's hope.
It'd be cool if he had his own series where he travels through time with a squad solving mysteries and vanquishing foes.
isnt that kinda what xenoverse is?
@@ctpp64 Yup!
@@ctpp64 yeah but it would be great to have an animated series that is at least implied to be canon. DBZ is a multi-billion Dollar franchise so i don't see the harm in making a side series. It prints its own money.
I would even love to see a prequel with the ancient Saiyans involved with bloody Vietnam-war style space combat.
@@TheSwordfish009 hmm, now that you mention it, it's pretty odd dragon ball doesn't have side stuff
Lmao no
Ok who else thinks Gogeta v Zamasu should of happened for the reasons that Zamasu used potara a godly item that fuses people and the fusion dance is mortal technique would’ve made more sense and well if they wanted Vegito in the story put him in the Broly Movie and also the serious Fusion Reborn Gogeta v Zamasu so well we wouldn’t suffer aby retcon as well the rules of the dance os the same as the movie and Vegito v Broly could’ve been awesome but I digress love both fusions but Ssj4 Gogeta is supreme 😃🐒
Good ol' History of Trunks
Kakarot has so many issues though. I want to like it but there’s a lot of annoying stuff. Lmao also retconning Piccolo blowing up the moon is just lame.
@@trjordan it is but the future arc is something to give the game credit for.
The legacy games were better
@@Requiem8040 agreed.
I think seeing a Potara Trunks fusion would look sick. Just with the Earrings alone
The Goku Black storyline is a spit on the face of Future Trunks.
Loving the legacy of Goku 2 background music
This arc is where I lost all hope for DB Super. Before then I was excusing it with them having tight deadlines, and that they were remaking the movies, etc. I was exciting to return to the darker, more mature tone set by the original future Trunks' timeline. And then the rest of the arc happened. Ugh.
i loved this video so glad to see ur subs getting so high uve always derserved it scholar.
Thank You, Sir. But you are the Subs! I'm just the video guy here. Thank you!
Glad I haven't watched Super because Future Trunks is my favorite character in DBZ
We need like 3 more videos of this 😔 R.I.P OG trunks
I would been awesome if trunks trained the next generation of fighters in his timeline
What could've been was reduced to merely "the SSJ Swordsman"... (sigh) tragic. His shirt was kinda cool I guess. Well said, Scholar & thanks for another great video! 👊😎👍
OMG HALLUSSA TWIN'S HERE ! lmao dream come true to see u both collaborate on a project
It doesn’t matter. He went back to his time and cut down 17, 18, and Cell way faster than any of the Z Fighters
Don't forget Gohan received a potential unlock from guru while trunks never did. An extra explanation for the power gap during the cell games
They dropped di ball on trunks
I wonder how different the outcome woukd have been if vegeta trained with gohan while goku trained with trunks
Or vegeta with goku and trunks with gohan. Those two scenarios would have been very interesting
I think vegeta is the best when it comes to drawing out someones latent potential just as weve seen with him fighting cabba.
I felt like Z trunks ISN'T the same trunks as super trunks. Z trunks wouldn't have been as weak willed as super trunks was.
☝🏿🎯💯
It was good to me That’s your opinion !!! He should’ve had his own show!!!
Future Trunks is my favorite character and I agree with a lot of the points on how they screwed up his character in Super here, I hate it too. But in fairness in regards to SSJRage, i'm pretty sure that is just an official name for his ultra form, since the grading system has been retconned.
But they call him The Drink
Because he is liquidity
Correction, they built concealing walls seperating myself from parts of my life, to drink from me, creating an endless loop of needing to know , find and understand what they did with my life. I with full confessions , did not stop at all, due to my forever intel finding out, crumbs as u wish.
Trunks is all powerful, even in the series...
Unique character with a BADASS transformation due, over due, expected on next series kinda due.
Ive made $$$$$$$$$$$$$ more than most have in their lifes, but aint seen 1 dollar of it. thats how creative abundantly i am. see why they stalled me?

Gohan also got his potential unlocked on namek.
Ur videos are good
Thank you Sir!
Gohan was trained by Krillin on trip to Namek in ship with mental fighting. Gohan also got zen kai boost from getting beat by Racoom. Biggest power up that puts Gohan ahead of Trunks is Gurus potential boost
The more I grow up, the more I realize that DBZ is not on the same level story and character wise compared with other anime
It never was.
"Look how they Massacred my boy..." - my reaction to Future Trunks' nerf in Super...
Damn. I played through the kakarot dlc (it does not cover Super), and i loved Trunks' story.

@@Rashawnermani456 that's exactly what I was going to the comments to say
I enjoyed the Goku Black arc for the most part. Only thing I come close to hating was that infinite Zamasu stuff.
I agree Trunks was always my favorite character idk what they were thinking
I'm so grateful for this video because some of my friends thought I was bugging when I told them that it seems like zamasu was heavily inspired by Lucifer. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought so. It just sucks that as cool as these concepts are, the execution was pretty bad, like they really did trunks dirty in Super.
“And the writing” is basically it.
All the ToP references honestly don't feel earned with how whiplash the last segment is despite the entire time anyone that wasn't a kid knows U7 was going to win super don't got the stones to do something so crazy

Facts.
I at least wanted to see other universes interact or fight with each other to see more of their fighting styles and strategies. But the most we got are little scenes with Toppo,Dyspo,Jiren, and a little light on Universe 6,and that's BECAUSE they're quite literally universe 7. All we got was "Universe 7 versus everyone else."
@@Jellyman4 U6 A fanfic's version of Dragon ball Z made canon, the fact they pretty much wiped all the other universes as soon as goku went ui and lost against jiren the first time is disappointing
@@Jellyman4if i'm not mistaken... It is basically universe 7 vs all other universe because all the other universe hated goku for giving the suggestion of the TOP to zeno

If that's the case then I feel a lil better lol.
Trunks slicing Frieza in half was my first exposure to dbz. I had no idea what was happening, but I was into it lol
Thank you for not making another one of those what if videos that have absolutely no substance, things like this can be discussed and explored
I rewatched the goku black arc with my little brother last night i was thinking to myself Trunks had such better ending in z Defeated the androids and Restoring peace to his time i mean was it really necessary to make this boy suffer again after a childhood of hell leave this boy alone super please just let him be happy
Long story short trunks ending in z is still better then his super ending
Agreed however the Buu stuff makes sense and follows the series’ logic
the buu stuff i can live with but going through the same character arc again Against a A god wanna be was really not Necessary
i just think saiyans shouldn’t be scrawny at least the U7 ones which is why i don’t like how Trunks muscle mass and height regressed compared to the cell saga, even the hair length was cool
Future Trunks timeline was like hell even before you die
I think the character development in the metaseries is more complex than you say. I also love the Future Trunks/Zamasu/Black saga. That said, you're 100% right Future Trunks was a little cheesy at times. Hell downright disgusting.
A great presentation, as a returning fan who just recently finished watching super I feel that super doesn't have the impact that dbz had. Not the weight, or tension to the fights, sure animation quality has improved but it also feels quite sanitized, the gritty, bloody fights of the past are replaced with something different it seems
