My friend and I were donating blood to get some hours for compulsory community service and we decided to watch this video before giving. My friend ended up passing out and everything goes black and white whenever I stand up after sitting down for more than 10 minutes. The funny thing is that giving blood didn't affect us at all. We both laughed so hard that we burst a few veins in our heads.

Donations are taken laying flat on a table, usually turning something in the hand, or squeezing to keep the flow of blood going. The needle is exposed while giving blood, not bandaged up. And as previously mentioned the bags have to be below for it to drain into the bag. And as for that bit about it taking several hours... it's about 30 minutes-1 hr depending on how fast the blood flows.
the color of blood is yellow (well that's technically plasma) it turns red because of the hemoglobin in it (cells that carry O2) the more hemoglobin you have the darker it is
