Doing 3 years of Russian edge work when I played was the 3 most beneficial years as far as improving on a skill I’ve ever had! I’ve always had excellent skating style and fundamentals but my edge work brought my skating to a whole new level! If you’re a player watching this trying to improve I can promise you you want to do everything in this video!
It's funny how some players and parents still don't understand that the elite players still work on their skating to reach and stay at the highest levels of hockey. It's just getting more dynamic every year! Thanks for the vid!!
Wish I had these videos when I played many years ago, I was a defensive defenseman but it could have definitely helped my game back then. Amazing talent.
I stopped tying my top eyelets and it was weird for the first 5 minutes while figuring out stability but discovered it gives MUCH more freedom of ankle movement for turns and acceleration. I don't know how people do it with such restricted movement anymore. I guess it also comes down to personal preference like most things.
@@ShootBlueRental tight where they should be. I think the original post was in regards to his upper two laces being looser for ankle mobility. Which, he has them about as loose as most skaters. And, he's wearing, what? Vapors I think. Also give more ankle movement. So, loose for someone who hasn't skated a bunch.
Hes amazing. I skated with him in a hockey camp I'm Pittsburgh he has the craziest and best drills. My skating definitely improved. The pens only hire the best!!
Hey Guys! I really love the vid but to get a benefit from it, its important to know the following: Which phase of the workout do it? For what skill, how many reps/sets, where to lie the focus on each exercise?
I remember him coaching out there. He's an awesome guy. Just cool with all of the local coaches too. My son was a viper and now an Allegheny Badger...and, being out in cranberry I've gotten to meat him twice. Sooooo knowledgeable.
Haha, this is more common than you think, don't beat yourself up. If you want some dryland drills that will help you do this stuff a lot easier, check this out: www.hockeytraining.com/ewe-program-sale
If you're wearing a stiff molded boot, you actually want fairly loose laces at the top for ankle mobility. Better edge control that way. (A bit different story with figure skates BTW).
wow, I can do this. I'm a drummer. This is just heel toe technique lol. Too bad I didn't have this when I was a kid playing rec hockey for the first time.
I should have met him 50 yrs ago when I was 5 yo kid to change whole my life as a Hockey player. Nice video, no doubt about it, yup!
and thats why newer generation hockey players will be alot better than those today, cause they got those videos, watch them and repeat them on ice.
If I had a dollar every time he said “yup” I’d be a millionaire 😭

Phenomenal hip mobility.. to be able to sit that low, maneuver efficiently with great balance and maintain posture throughout
Did a power skating camp with this guy, his skating and technique is by far the best ive ever seen.
yappppppp lol.
This guy is amazing.

This is the best hockey skating video tips thank you so much for it
I would love to have more technical drills and exercises to get more speed on the ice! With this coach obviously!
Yeah. My mother was a figure skater and she taught me by the time I was 4. But, some of these little drills are amazing!

Am I bad at ice skating ?
Yup.
ive done his camp 3 times, highly recommend
That is some amazing skating
Ive always admired people who can skate so well with such loose skates

Isaac, I don't know how long you've been skating but the ankle looser allows you soooo much more agility and forward lean.
We have ankles for a reason, i cant imagine skating with my laces tied all the way up. Too restrictive and it even hurts my ankle bones
@@justingt3rs yeah. It's the reason why I switched from Supremes to Vapors...high end Supremes are just way too stiff even with the top lace undone.

It's a complete bulshit. This coach is a humiliation of Malkin. He can coach kids on the local pond where I practice and play but not NHL players.
