Yes yes I am actively trying to solve how to keep the same pipeline for non humanoid characters so I need to come up with some solutions before I can really rig and animate furry organic characters. I am not an animator or rigger so I have to feed it into iClone CC4 pipeline and hope to find a way to maintain facial blendshape data. Right now its all a mystery still. Please give me some time :)

I'm obsessed with the Metal Sonic model. It's such a wonderfully creative spin on an already brilliant design, with the slightly altered proportions and utterly horrifying facial expression- And the legs! The coloring of the backgrounds, models, the pure passion packed into this whole thing! I'm not even going to complain about the wonky camera angles or movements, it gives the finished piece just that much more personality. Literally my only wish is to get a better glance at the full models; I can't get enough of all the little details.

It felt like seeing a professional studio trailer from some alternate dimension, where people got a version of the Sonic cinematic universe that actually went out of their way to include Metal. 1:20 is weirdly beautiful to see as metal sonic surpasses robotniks initial expectation and seeing just how fast it can really go with that overview as he sees him blazing through the course
Thank you for appreciating all the little details. That whole tail end was chock full of BTTF II references. Delorean fire trail, space time bending shock dash, and Robotniks Doc Brown scream when metal warps back to the lab Terminator 2 style.

Shoddy as the animation and camerawork may be, I really dig the amount of effort that was put here, especially with the models. I see a lot of potential here, cant wait to see how you improve in the future

Thanks no no Im not good on animation yet. This is all some stuff I jankily bashed together in CC4 iClone 8 to make a short film happen somehow. I dont have time to be proper triple discipline in rigging and animation. I am mainly trained in 3D asset modeling and texturing. I dont plan to do collabs so this is it for now haha! But yes the whole point in making was because the movie franchise disrespects Metal Sonic by skipping over him for Shadow. I could not take it lol!

Yeah I made all this stuff because we never get to see Sonic really look next gen or more realistic in the games. Movies franchised influence all the level of polish. Everything about 90s era Sonic was slightly dark/gritty - like Jim Henson, Never Ending Story level mood. It didn't start doing all this kid crap until SA-SA2 era. So Im modernizing mine with current tech trends while keeping the dark tone. I dont even think many GenZ players know that original badniks were enslaved or power harvested forest creatures. Doesn't get any darker than that.
the movies aren't focusing on realistically dark cyberpunk themes. they're focused on child friendly hijinks with characters who take little stuff seriously and fart jokes...
Yeah eventually I will move on to other characters and storylines but it may take years lol. Its not easy to make these things because of the fidelity of graphics in this day and age. We basically have the power to run near movie spec cinematics now in the palm of our hands thanks to Unreal 5. HOWEVER cinematic quality content and level of detail - even for stylized works - is usually done by a whole team of professionals, not just one dude with a wacom tablet lol.
I really like this metal design! the only part about it I’d change are the teeth. They just a little unnecessary. Other than that, I’d say it’s damn unsettling, in a good way
i mean think about it, everything you are looking at was modeled rigged and animated from scratch by one man! not only that but he also sampled the music you are listening to all on his own! and to top it all off, he made an extremely storytelling animation about the birth and training of Metal Sonic with them! come on this gotta be the best fanmade Metal Sonic piece media youve ever seen :D

That would actually work. If Jim Carrey was in a robotic suit, because of the explosion, making him a bit portly, like his cartoon/anime counterpart, it would make the next movie more closer to the game franchise than ever all they have to do next is give him the Robo eyes that he gets in the comics. That and the Michael Jackson Speed Demon used in this video would be perfect if it was going to be in the movie that and look-a-like. This is why fans should chip in movies. Nowadays they have ideas that Hollywood wouldn't use, or better, yet refuse to listen most of the time. Also, I really love metal sonic's design

i love the character designs! this is amazing for a solo artist regardless of what your main skill is. It feels like a layout preview vfx teams make for movies to know what they'll be working on
The idea here is that if he ever lost jet power, mechanically he should be able to physically outrun sonic in any situation. Aint no way a front knee join ever gonna outrun inverted legs. He could also lunge on all fours and pounce like a predator with his arms being that much longer. The whole intention was to make Metal more savage.
No I dont have any camera or animation skill, I clearly state that in the description. My skill is modeling and texturing, set dressing and some lighting. All the rest is up in the air! lol

Thanks, I cant actually animate so while I appreciate the comment I dont really think the actual motion in the feature is all that lol. I had to use a lot of the library of motion available in Reallusion studio stuff for CC4 and ActorCore, absolutely none of them are made for non standard toony characters, inverted knee or hindleg IK, or anything in combination with the head to body scale ratio of Sonic Movie style characters but I did what I could what time that I had. All solo dev work here so there another limitation - and I dont plan to ever deal with sharing my models to a 3rd party so I wont ever be outsourcing any animation from anyone lol. If these were my own non IP original characters, maybe, but I cant share assets I dont own.

Yes in his proto form he is supposed to look goofy and bumbling about just like any bipedal robot does when its first learning how to walk. Also lol I cant animate so yeah these are trash stock anim loop for the simple stuff. Had to hand make some of the other motions that dont exist and well Im not an animator so all of it probably looks derpy in the end.

Thanks, yeah I shot it in 24fps, then Robotniks cape physics were too heavy so I could not render the movie proper. I ended up having to desktop capture all the cinematics which it could run in real time but it is very heavy for the PC so the final came out choppy. Its my first ever short film, many lessons learned. Sorry about that!
Thanks they seemed to match up well when I was testing some break downs so I decided to stick with it. Actually the mix was the whole inspiration for thinking about doing these entire scene animated.

Um please read the description lol. I did all this project 100% by myself. I just used an avatar based app CC4 by Reallusion like a noob to do bootleg my rigging and anims because I dont rig or animate. All good though, maybe some other times.

I realy like how Eggman looks here. For my opinion its much close to canon Eggman than in Sonic Movie (this not mean i dont like alternative vision of Eggman from Jim Carry). Cool animation and all this very detailed scene looks like a CGI intro for modern Sonic game! Great work!

Yeah I made all this stuff because we never get to see Sonic really look next gen or more realistic in the games. Movies franchised influence all the level of polish. Eggman here looks like he belongs in Warhammer with that outfit, and I love it.
Honestly love the darker, cyberpunk esque take on Stardust Speedway. A vibe the actual movies seem to lack.
Everything about 90s era Sonic was slightly dark/gritty - like Jim Henson, Never Ending Story level mood. It didn't start doing all this kid crap until SA-SA2 era. So Im modernizing mine with current tech trends while keeping the dark tone. I dont even think many GenZ players know that original badniks were enslaved or power harvested forest creatures. Doesn't get any darker than that.
the movies aren't focusing on realistically dark cyberpunk themes. they're focused on child friendly hijinks with characters who take little stuff seriously and fart jokes...

Yeah eventually I will move on to other characters and storylines but it may take years lol. Its not easy to make these things because of the fidelity of graphics in this day and age. We basically have the power to run near movie spec cinematics now in the palm of our hands thanks to Unreal 5. HOWEVER cinematic quality content and level of detail - even for stylized works - is usually done by a whole team of professionals, not just one dude with a wacom tablet lol.
I really like this metal design! the only part about it I’d change are the teeth. They just a little unnecessary. Other than that, I’d say it’s damn unsettling, in a good way

That would actually work. If Jim Carrey was in a robotic suit, because of the explosion, making him a bit portly, like his cartoon/anime counterpart, it would make the next movie more closer to the game franchise than ever all they have to do next is give him the Robo eyes that he gets in the comics.
That and the Michael Jackson Speed Demon used in this video would be perfect if it was going to be in the movie that and look-a-like. This is why fans should chip in movies. Nowadays they have ideas that Hollywood wouldn't use, or better, yet refuse to listen most of the time.

The audio is not great because I could not get clean clear acapella of Speed Demon for my mix on here BUT these youngins out here who never actually played Sonic CD North America version when it originally released in the 90s have no idea why these songs fit perfectly. Unpopular opinion, but I really like those type of legs from a robotic viewpoint.
The idea here is that if he ever lost jet power, mechanically he should be able to physically outrun sonic in any situation. Aint no way a front knee join ever gonna outrun inverted legs. He could also lunge on all fours and pounce like a predator with his arms being that much longer. The whole intention was to make Metal more savage.
The creator really wanted to show off his camera skills.... they're a tad a bit overboard...
But amazing job overall!

No I dont have any camera or animation skill, I clearly state that in the description. My skill is modeling and texturing, set dressing and some lighting. All the rest is up in the air! lol

Thanks, I cant actually animate so while I appreciate the comment I dont really think the actual motion in the feature is all that lol. I had to use a lot of the library of motion available in Reallusion studio stuff for CC4 and ActorCore, absolutely none of them are made for non standard toony characters, inverted knee or hindleg IK, or anything in combination with the head to body scale ratio of Sonic Movie style characters but I did what I could what time that I had. All solo dev work here so there another limitation - and I dont plan to ever deal with sharing my models to a 3rd party so I wont ever be outsourcing any animation from anyone lol. If these were my own non IP original characters, maybe, but I cant share assets I dont own.

Yes in his proto form he is supposed to look goofy and bumbling about just like any bipedal robot does when its first learning how to walk. Also lol I cant animate so yeah these are trash stock anim loop for the simple stuff. Had to hand make some of the other motions that dont exist and well Im not an animator so all of it probably looks derpy in the end.

Thanks, yeah I shot it in 24fps, then Robotniks cape physics were too heavy so I could not render the movie proper. I ended up having to desktop capture all the cinematics which it could run in real time but it is very heavy for the PC so the final came out choppy. Its my first ever short film, many lessons learned. Sorry about that!

Thanks they seemed to match up well when I was testing some break downs so I decided to stick with it. Actually the mix was the whole inspiration for thinking about doing these entire scene animated.

This feels like an AI-Generated vision of what Sonic would be like in a gritty Warhammer esque Sci-fi universe. On a side note I'm willing to bet Metal Sonic's design in this was inspired by "Metal Afro" in Afro Samurai!

Sure go ahead and do your barely stable video renders but AI still not gonna have ready to go manipulable coding capable 3D assets which can have shaders and script commands run on them for expected behavior on the fly to do controlled realtime render production or actual video games. Yeah he is likely to get overlooked. Which is really sad he is really my favorite badnik out of all of them and totally underrated. I think the US side fandom made the jump from Sonic 2 right smack over into Sonic Adventure and those who were not old enough to really know and play Sonic CD the voices are too few to really influence the Movie verse enough I suppose lol.

Um please read the description lol. I did all this project 100% by myself. I just used an avatar based app CC4 by Reallusion like a noob to do bootleg my rigging and anims because I dont rig or animate. All good though, maybe some other times.

You get to a part you hate to do, or get depressed over some life drama, and the project may never ever even get finished. Its a struggle every day but I try not to stop moving forward. I feel its disrespectful Shadow is the big show first before Metal, HOWEVER we all know Shadow is now viewed as an ally so all the rumors are pointing at some kind of team up or alliance. If that's true, we have already seen Robotnik as the main evil, we can only image it may be Metal Sonic... we just have to wait and see. I'm busting my butt to finish this Rabbit so I can finally take a proper crack at Shadow and do a short of his back story before the movie drops. No time to sleep lol. I realy like how Eggman looks here. For my opinion its much close to canon Eggman than in Sonic Movie (this not mean i dont like alternative vision of Eggman from Jim Carry). Cool animation and all this very detailed scene looks like a CGI intro for modern Sonic game! Great work!
