- Welcome back to Mecha March Madness! We've had a LOT of Sonic robots revealed this past year...but what if they have always been one single design this entire time?
Today we talk about Sonic Superstars and ALL the metals and mechas in the game...and talk about the potential of the mysterious prototype Metal Fighter!

Classic Sonic wearing Shadow as a skin-suit can’t never be uncanny.

Metal Tails being yellow and not orange may indicate that Eggman can't really tell the two colours apart.
This isn't relevent to any lore, I just think it'd be really funny.
I mean the most common form of colourblindness does mostly effect dudes so maybe he’s colourblind lol
@@xxxxx-iu4fw Yep, Red/Green Colorblindness basically means red, green, and everything between looks like a brownish yellow. Since yellow is normally seen by stimulating both the red and green cones of the eye at the same time, such Colorblindness would mean orange wouldn't easily be distinguished either.
It's gonna be hilarious when Metal Tails Mk. II is lime green.

Another possibility is that Metal Sonic has gone threw multiple bodies but his core AI remained intact. His "soul/brain" remains unique even if his physical form is not.

Yeah I kind of assumed that's what was going on !
Regarding Metal Sonic and copies seen in the Sonic Mania battle, the manual for Knuckles Chaotix implies that Eggman ports Metal's CPU into a new body if his old one were to get destroyed (hence Metal Sonic being known as "Metal Sonic Kai" before that got retconned into being just the final boss form).
The concept of Eggman using an existing robot as a template for mass-produced models is also used in Sonic Battle via (Chaos) Gamma, who is the template for the Guard Robos, although there Eggman made them to sell them for money. EDIT: Also Emerl was mass-produced for the E-101 phi line. So Eggy getting the idea to mass-produce Metal or Mecha isn't too unlikely.
I like the idea of Metal Sonic using different bodies. It's like he has a bit of dysphoria since he can't be the true Sonic and is trying out new bodies since none really feel right.
Kai and Overlord may back that up. I mean, both are *very* far off from the blue hedgehog he's based off.

10:10 - OBJECTION! While it's easy to jump to the conclusion that the rabbit robot is based on "Feels" (or Maxs), the head shape is more similar to Pocky's, the rabbit animal friend.
I agree that is likely the actual intent.
But I will obstinately insist it's Bonny Rabbot.

And to expand on this headcanon/theory with my own headcanon.
During the events of Dream Team, part of the reason why Eggman was trying to get control of the Dream Weaver and the dream world, was because of that encounter with NiGHTS.
Seeing how this purely Dream made creature could even affect the real world, he could’ve thought with such power of his own, he could create armies with his own thoughts. But couldn’t get anywhere close to NiGHTS’ capabilities until discovering the Dream Weaver, prior Dream Team.
Maybe his random appearances in Sonic Shuffle could be rewritten as, him trying to make a machine that allows him to enter the dream world. But said machine couldn’t allow him to do much aside from tormenting Sonic and friends.
Considering taking over the Dream World to be a low possibility right now, he went with a different plan. Maybe after discovering one of Gerald’s diaries, or flipping through the one that could’ve gave him the idea of Chaos, we could then go to the events of SA2.
The mechs in Sonic Superstars give me memories to the classics games. The cyber station mech has an epic design for a mech. The fang robot mech is definitely very cool and I hate that boss so much but the mech is definitely a very powerful weapon to use against Trip. I love how in the cyber station boss fight is that when you are playing the boss fight the mech get’s more prototypes to see how much prototypes Dr. Eggman has made. Every mech design in the game is very interesting and cool. Great video!

You can also get NiGHTS in the fruit acts. The requirement of getting all the rings holds true.
Sadly, I think the glitch has been patched, but I remember there was a glitch where you could stay in your super form without losing rings. Using that to fight Fang’s mech pretty cool. He went from pure intimidation to a mild annoyance.
8:55 they actually do go used, the only downside is, the circumstances to get a night nightopian to play with one is abnormally low, and even if so, when you get too close, they'll get happy to see you and throw it away, so basically yes they're *kinda* unused
Id love to see these robotic copies appear in a modern sonic game that's mainline, and it's great being early

A "Modern Sonic" game would use post-Adventure designs.

Yeah, I absolutely adore DiGi Valentine's headcanon for why Eggman would make a Metal NiGHTS. Heck, I love Metal NiGHTS in general; between this and all the other little references and connections, I refuse to believe that Sonic and NiGHTS don't share the same universe.
And now I'm curious as to how a Metal Reala would look...

Going off Sonic X, it wouldn't be too odd for Metal Trip to also be able to transform into a dragon. If Metal Sonic can do it, maybe they can too.

I like the idea Metal Nights isn't even meant for combat: Robotnik saw NiGHTS in a dream, had a burst of inspiration, and just made a small-scale version of the nightmaren. Then, once the bot was made, he had no idea what to actually *do* with the thing, and he just dumps it either to chill on a chao island or in storage.
METAL TIME
Adding on that whole "prototype robot being the base for all Eggman's mechs" and "Sonic Mania has other 2 destroyed Metal Sonics", on the Japanese manual of Chaotix, it's said that Metal Sonic from that game is a new model with the same CPU as the old one that was destroyed in a Sonic past adventure, that means it is technically the same Metal Sonic from CD and other games, having the same "mind", "memories" and "thoughts" but with an entirely new and rebuilt body
About Max/Feels/Reto/Rabbit existing in the games canon or just being a skin, I was sure he was present on that classic story from Sonic's 30th anniversary special of the IDW comics where Sonic learns how to drive, but I went to check and there was only Boomer (one of the early Sonic sidekicks from Sonic 2 that ended up losing his spot to Tails) and the Spider Girl designed by Okano in one poster just like she was in Sonic Adventure, there was no more scrapped characters in there that I thought there was, but at least we have Mika, that appeared in issue 54 in IDW and later in a poster of a christmas art published by SEGA alongside Hot Honey from The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog
It's not confirmed that she has any relation with Max, and it probably never will, her creator Natalie just made her because she needed to do a Miku cameo on the comics and then a roomate gave her the idea of making it being a mix beetween Feels and Miku, so it's not like she's an important character, it's just a cameo that needed to be done, and according to her creator you can have the headcanon you want for Mika, she's Max, she's a relative of him, she's just a reference and has nothing to do with him, you decide
Also, the bear/cat robot reminds me a lot of Hello Kitty lol, wonder if that's on purpose
11:52 And this Metal Fighter head with a helmet, I didn't saw this anywhere, but from the moment I first saw it, I thought of Death Adder, the main antagonist of Golden Axe, I'm pretty sure it is a reference to him, wouldn't surprise me considering we have a Woody Pop (A Master System game) reference in Sky Temple, a NiGHTS reference with Metal NiGHTS, and a Fantasy Zone reference in Frozen Base Zone Act 2
I wanna see the "Prototypes" return in the Classic-era Sonic comics. I feel like they'd be a good place to learn more about these things and see em in action some more. Could work well as an antagonist in something like a Trip miniseries.
Pretty cool video! If I may, it would have been cool if you acknowledged the creator of the Sonic Superstars 100% Save Data which was indeed me, but it is ok. Unlocking all the stuff required a lot of work (trust me winning over 2500 online matches isnt fun) but at the end of the day what matters is someone explored all the cool variants of Metal Robots in Sonic Superstars :) Either way take care and stay awesome!

I feel like the Metal Rabbit head is less a reference to Feels and moreso just "hey what if we made that little rabbit you save from robots and capsules into a robot", given the headshape being more similar to that rabbit than Feels.

My personal speculation on the item monitors is that Eggman deploys them for his badniks to make use of. Rings clearly seem to hold some sort of power within them that can protect from hits and shares some connection to the Chaos Emeralds, so monitors with small caches of these could be backup power sources for Badniks or could be there to help Badniks track Chaos Emeralds and enter the special stages holding them. Shields could likewise be stored energy that Sonic and friends can form into shields and that Badniks use to repair themselves. Life monitors in the games they appear in could function as wanted posters of sorts that the playable group get a motivational boost to keep going after breaking. After Eggman realized that Sonic and friends started breaking his monitors, he also seems to have started placing Eggman monitors, which are booby trapped and hurt whoever breaks them.
Springs also seem to be made by Eggman, as in some games there's Eggman springs which almost never lead towards progress and more often than not are there to inconvenience Sonic and the others. Springs could also have been deployed to help his various robots navigate around the different locations they are dispatched to. Similar logic could be applied to dash panels, which could be there to help Eggman's robots keep up with Sonic's speeds.
As for why we never see Eggman's robots using these various things, my best guess is that it's because Badniks and Egg Pawns have very simple programming and lack the intelligence to make the most of the tools given to them, or maybe Sonic is just too fast and gets around to using them first.
A Puyo Puyo themed bot would've been pretty incredible, but sadly that series's been getting the short end of the stick for...a WHILE now.
with rabbit sonic, technically Feels was the prototype name for Ristar and Ohshima said his name is (probably?) Max. Now given there's both Sam & Max and Max & Ruby which have bunny characters also named Max by pure coincidence, I just call him "Rabbit Sonic" anyway lol

It honestly DOES make me wonder about Rocket Metal. Like, I was REALLY expecting him to make a cameo or as a DLC skin, but we haven't seen bolt nor plate of the bot, at least not yet.
Also to be fair about the NiGHTS toy, it could be the case that it CAN show up in the game normally, but due to the complexity of the Nightopians and the A-Life system, we have no clue how to activate it if it is at all.
Someone said they have to basically have max happiness to have a chance to use it but then they'll toss it away to jump up and down if you get close enough to see it, so you've got less than a second of time for it to be on screen.

i think of the prototype bot as a way to test drive certain ideas and see if there effective, before making a fully unique robot like metal sonic. This also makes the name prototype make more sense because if something like this were true then a suit for the prototype like metal tails or amy, would be a prototype for a metal version of the charater

2:06 You actually still can activate the Dragon form for the final boss, just after the first cut scene. I took 10 minutes tryna not take damage to have enough rings for that, but the Super form was so slow it was basically useless (and I died 🥲).

Made a Metal Amy using all her parts save for the arms (which I replaced with the Mad Fighter arms) and a Metal Enerjak Knuckles (which is just Metal Knuckles w/ an orange body, arms and legs)

Oh I gotta thank you. I've been working on a Sonic R remake of sorts, after I saw the models from superstars and we got metal knuckles and tails doll back it was my first immediate impulse, but I was struggling with a name for the project. Sonic Reunion sounds perfect, I might just steal that if it's okay.

Also would make a lot of sense if Eggman's constantly building new machines, and would have to take them out on a field test. The monitors were meant to be badnik recharge stations containing rings while others meant for communications. But the problem is that the badnik is very dumb and the Prototype is Eggman looking to make something a bit more intellegent than a motobug, enter the Egg Pawns.

Honestly, I hope they bring back the robot multiplayer thing again in the future. Even if it’s something kind of lame like “robot” sonic from sonic colors, it’s still better than nothing and it’s fun to try and find meaning in these afterthought machines

I have to wonder why these Prototypes weren’t used after this. Since we have nothing to go off of, I have two theories, the first that they had a fatal flaw and were scrapped, and the second that they weren’t resource efficient. Eggman must keep only the one Metal around for a reason.
I think the more logical explanation than it being an attempt to mass produce is it's mass testing. As seen in the comics, he has entire dimensions set up for testing a mash up of different robots, but those are all basic badnicks, nothing more advanced like metal sonic. But he's still got to test them somehow before launch, so how better than by using a modular robot with the same ai system, maybe just not as specialized. This allows him to test all but the final designs, in rapid succession, at the cost of bots that really aren't that durable. This again doesn't fit the games lore, Would 100% need a secondary explanation, for that specific fight, but that's superstars in a nutshell, as alot of it isn't explained well.
