    Is Iron Man 2 perfect? No. But it has a solid foundation. And maybe, just maybe, you could remove just one character and get a far more satisfying story.

    I honestly feel like Ivan could have worked even in the same movie as justin Hammer. If you set him up corectly Ivan can be a man who uses the arc reactor for selfish reasons (to get revenge) while Tony uses the arc reactor for selfless reasons (helping People). That could go hand in hand with tony's Statement "one man's tool is another man's weapon". Together with justin Hammer who for me represents a Tony stark who has never been in the cave we have two villains that show us what Tony could become or has been in Hammers case. So when those "bad Versions" of Tony come together to destroy Tony, he would literally have to fight Version of him that he either was (hammer) or could have been (Ivan vanko). Obvisouly you would have to rewrite the movie quite a bit to draw more Parallels between Tony and ivan so that we can truly see that Tony could become more like him so everything feels more satisfying when he chooses the right thing at the end.

    • @Waddings
      @Waddings 4 роки тому +6

      Tony not being able to take the suit with him everywhere, cause it was kinda like a vehicle, put him in more vulnerable positions. When the hero has more limitations, it means they make more interesting decisions, so are more interesting to the audience.
      I kinda liked that in Iron Man 3, he had suits with different strengths and weaknesses. With the nano suit he can do everything without having to plan.

    I was just thinking that they could add alot of elements of Armor Wars and Demon in a Bottle by making Justin Hammer be the main antagonist, and possibly put Crimson Dynamo as the secondary antagonist. To me, this goes with the quote about legacy and how it would affect Tony seeing his father's legacy being used by people, like Hammer and Crimson Dynamo, and the measures he would take to get his legacy back.

    To further emphasize the point that Tony isn't at the top of his game at 20:10, Tony could even be having trouble rescuing people as Iron Man. The seizure bit could go further. Maybe he can't see straight or he's having trouble concentrating. Maybe, one of the drivers even has a serious accident or is killed due to Tony's negligence. This would then give Hammer even more evidence to back his claims that the drones are great idea.

    I think the concept of Justin Hammer as main villain works all the way up to the point where Hammer climbs into the Titanium Man armor and rehashes the end of Iron Man I. It's completely out of character for Hammer and totally implausible that a huckster with no combat training would pose any serious threat to either Iron Man or War Machine. What would make far more sense is Titanium Man as a renegade skunk works project Ivan Vanko cooked up to outclass both Tony Stark AND Justin Hammer. Then you get both Vanko's beat down scene and Hammer's crushing comeuppance in the end, with Hammer forced to watch helplessly as his drone army is demolished and his scheme to use Rhodey to frame Tony Stark gets turned on its head.

    From the moment Ivan Vanko was named, I was sure we would get the Crimson Dynamo. And we should have. Vanko should have been some Russian guy with a grudge, working for Hammer, like you said. However, it should have been both Anton & Ivan as a father-son duo that wants to get back at Howard for "stealing Anton's ideas" and Ivan wanting to prove he's a much better programmer than Tony. But, alone, they can't really make a functioning attack robot that can fight Iron Man. The fight at Monaco could be how they and their first robot, Iron Comrade, is tested out. But it gets blown to bits by the suitcase armor. Then Hammer hires them and somehow gets his hands on the Iron Man mk2. He gets it to the Vankos and they reverse engineer it into three suits, using a power core and Operating system of their own designs: The Crimson Dynamo, The War Machine and the Titanium Man, each with their own specific gimmicks. The Crimson Dynamo is a sleek, bright red and silver suit that has sorta bulky pauldrons and gauntlets and a backpack. The backpack houses extra power batteries because this suit uses all sorts of powerful lasers and microwave rays and electrical attacks. The War Machine is just like it is in the movie. And the Titanium Man is a big, green heavy suit that's almost like Vanko's suit at the end. This suit is more like War Machine. It uses heavy calibur arms and boosted rockets to fly and has TWO miniguns, but instead of flipping up his shoulder, they move from his back to under his arms. So these are what Hammer plans to sell and mass produce. Hammer makes his pitch to the military and they ask for Rhody to personally test one out in the expo. He reluctantly agrees and becomes the pilot of the War Machine. Before the expo, Rhody warns Tony that something about these suits seems way fishy. So, at the expo, instead of a legion of drones, Hammer debuts these three suits. Tony shows up to warn the military not to buy those suits because they're just cheap knockoffs of his that are untested and dangerous for the pilots. Ivan, who is piloting the Crimson Dynamo, is outraged at this insult and takes a shot at Tony. Rhody tries to stop him, but the two fly off and War Machine and Titanium Man, being piloted by Lt. Doug Johnson [known as Detroit Steel in the comics.], give chase. There could be an allusion to his comic counterpart as the Titanium Man has either a weapon called the "Detroit Steel Buster" or when he asks what the suit's name is, they say "Titanium Man." And he tells them some story about how either back home he was called Detroit Steel or it was his call sign or something, but they insist "Titanium Man". So when Tony makes that jab "Oohhh, 'Titanium Man' because titanium is stronger than iron. ReAL cReATiVe!" He sullenly mutters "I told them it should have been Detroit steel!" Anyway, once out of the public's sight, Johnson, who has been fighting with Rhody this whole movie through, sees this as his opportunity to be rid of Rhody once and for all. Then we have our final fights which end with both of the Hammermechs losing mostly to their own design flaws. Crimson Dynamo overheats and almost kills Vanko inside. Titanium Man eventually can't keep up with Iron Man and War Machine's mobility and its extra armored parts start falling apart due to impacts and his battery, eventually, just gives out. War Machine runs out of ammo really quickly. Justin Hammer is completely embarrassed and ruined and later is arrested for stealing the mk2 from Tony's residence, which Pepper found a way to prove. Coulsn's crew comes to clean up and confiscate, Doug is fired and the movie ends.

    Nando, love your vids but I have to nitpick (not unlike your podcast, mostly nitpicking, am subscribed) but I've always assumed whiplash would have walked on the track and caused destruction just to cause a scene, assume Tony would be there to see it (high profile man at what appears to be a high profile event, he would have heard Tony would be there) and would use this scene to draw Tony out. Up until now, I always associated a character foil to the math rule for multiplying parentheses together FOIL (First Outer Inner Last). (A+b)(c+d)=ac+ad+bc+bd. I feel like such a nerd but I thought it was because it expanded the character like it expands the math expression.

    I needed my Justin Hammer fix, thanks. Hammer would make a great main villain, but should he really end with a dud? He should at least appear threatening during the fight at least. Also why did you limit the drones to 4 ? That really limits the possibilities for a fight in the garden.
    Ivan vanko as Whiplash or Crimson dynamo could still be a minor villain to link Tony with the heritage of his father as a ruthless arms dealer, the legacy of Howard Stark comes back and that forces Tony to think about his legacy.
    Also there needs to be the retconnned Peter Parker scene.

    I think it could have still worked with both. I love Whiplash and his relationship with Tony. The issue I see is that he and Hammer never seem to actually ever work together. Hammer wants something from Venko but they never accomplish anything together so they just seem like 2 half measures. I think if Venko early on created a rudimentary suit and failed a rest run without Ironman knowing. Hammer saw it and decided the quickest way to to raise his profile and program is to work with Venko. Not only can he give Venko resources to make a great suit but Venko could improve the drones. Think of The Incredibles. The villain monster is created by the real villain so he can appear the hero. Middle fight has an upgraded Venko use his info about the arc reactor to do some real damage to Tony. Last minute before Ironman can turn things around Hammer drones jump in and quickly beat Venko. Suddenly Hammer has saved Tony in the eyes of the public. Tony is a very public alcoholic. The media is turning on Tony. This make a real low point for the hero and makes the villains look like a functional team. Venko has what he wants, Hammer has what he wants, and now a Tony needs to crawl back. You can still end in a betrayal but Hammer should betray Whiplash. Much more in character and Venko has effectively framed himself. Then Venko could turn all the drones on both Hammer and Tony. Hammer can’t really admit he was working with Venko so in the public eye a terrorist was able to exploit a flaw in the drones. Tony beats Venko which by proxy also makes him better then Hammers drones.

    As a stand-alone movie, this would be an improvement over the Iron Man 2 we got. But my concern here is that we're basically getting another disgruntled businessman in a bigger suit in a straight firefight finale. In short, a retread of Iron Man 1 (and Incredible Hulk and Ant-Man and Iron Man 3).
    I really liked where you were going at the beginning of the video, about Tony being the weakness that's holding back Iron Man. Let Tony lose to the Hammer drones, let Rhodey be the one to bail him out somehow. hit the palladium poisoning metaphor even harder. Use that to plant the seeds for Tony's suit addiction in IM3 and eventually Ultron. In other words, let Justin Hammer be right.

    • @MaxIronsThird
      @MaxIronsThird 4 роки тому +193

      Exactly, i really excited for the first 20 minutes of the video but that third act fight just seemed like the exact one from the original Iron Man 2 with just a couple of minor changes, plus i wouldn't take Justin Hammer to be a guy in the suit type of character.

    • @DavisCentis
      @DavisCentis 4 роки тому +174

      Yeah, putting Justin Hammer into a suit just sounds really weird. Before Tony got into a real fight, he was just sitting on the sidelines profiting, not unlike Justin Hammer. Makes more sense to me for Justin Hammer to be controlling the drones from a computer screen and playing it like a piano, and just loving it. Hammer's also controlling War Machine through the computer. Then Hammer stumbles something or whatever, and one of the drone's own missile attacks damages/destroys the computer. Rhodes regains his suit, but the drones are now uncontrolled and executing the final order of just blasting everything around them. Rhodes and Tony defeat the last of the drones, capture Hammer.

    • @Loyde06
      @Loyde06 4 роки тому +36

      Alternatively, we can turn Rhodey into the antagonist for the final battle. Instead of having him trap in the suit, Hammer convinces him to go against Tony

      My question with the drones and Justin Hammer showing up in a suit, is why he had to steal the Mark 2 anyway, if he already this this kind of tech? I guess it was still just a "ruin Stark's image" play.

    I have a fun addition to make to this. Instead of just having a guy doing an impression of Tony Stark, we have Tony make a line of Iron Man toys that talk with his voice. Hammer, can then use the toys to perfectly synthesize Tony voice because of movie magic. This way Hammer is able to use Tony's own decadence and narcissism to bring him down.
