  • In this video, I will attempt to thoroughly answer the question: How much does it cost to start my own permanent jewelry business?
    You can find a checklist and chart here:
    stonesandfindings.com/free-re...
    I get asked this question A LOT because it's actually not a lot and it is very profitable. If you actually look on social media and track some of the businesses offering permanent jewelry, you will find many of them started out as side hustles. They have now financed the opening of stores and boutiques, some even multiple locations, and expanded into bigger businesses within a short period of time
    For permanent jewelry, investment costs we need to consider include the machinery and all the tools and accessories that you will need to weld, training, furniture and advertisement, and perhaps registration and insurance.
    Disclosure: I distribute Sunstone micro welders. They are the top of the line welders, known for their reliability, warranty and value.
    They are also the most popular and safest welders used by permanent jewelry artists world wide. I personally have not used any no-name welders, and there are mixed reviews on welding reliability and there have been safety issues.
    As a business, I think it is much wiser to go with more reliable equipment - it will signal to your clients that you care about their safety and that you’re a luxury brand. So, for the purpose of this video, I will share only the cost information for Sunstone Welders.
    There are different models of these American made welders and each will allow you to run a busy permanent jewelry business - consistently and safely, day in and day out. The difference is in the bells and whistles and what suits your budget the best.
    We have full product reviews and user guides on our UA-cam channel, and I will just include a brief cost summary for the purpose of calculations.
    The manufacturer listed prices for these micro welders are $1000 to $2800 US. If you are buying them from us, those prices include shipping and handling if you are in the USA and Canada, and if you’re in Canada, they also include customs clearance and duties.
    You will need additional tools and accessories, such as pliers, chain cutters, safety goggles, leather welding protector, grounded pliers and more, for about under $300 for the entire package.
    You will need chains! Many wholesalers also create packages and its a good way to go. We offer a number of convenient starter packages of the top selling premium quality chains and components. These range from $250 to $800, and will allow you to start selling and welding immediately.
    You will need a table, some chairs and a lamp, if you don't already have these. Anything simple will do and can be purchased for under $350.
    You will need signage and business cards that can be ordered online for about $250.
    You will need to open a bank account and register merchant accounts to accept payment, like Paypal and credit cards. Most of this is free to register but you can check with your bank’s merchant services for details.
    You will need to register your business with your local government, and it is usually inexpensive, with fees ranging from $50 to $300, depending on your location.
    You will want to purchase insurance. If you already have a business, adding the pj service, there should be little to no increase in your premiums.
    If you do not, check what your home and auto insurance policies cover and if there might be an umbrella policy available - call your broker.
    Besides the cost of the machine, you will need training on how to operate the welder and achieve successful welds. We offer free support, Free UA-cam PJ Training Videos , and also discount full packaged video training when you buy with us. A small percentage of people prefer in-person training, and that is also available for a small fee.
    So, the investment needed is only $2500 or up to $5000, depending on whether you want the luxury machine and larger chain package or not, and you are ready to go!

      This is great to read and I am delighted that you like my videos.
      One of the easiest ways to learn it, if it is a available in your area, is to go and get a bracelet welded on. Look at their operation and all that is going on, and then get it done. You'll understand the experience very quickly. It will be worth it to pay retail for it. For the rest, I am here virtually!

    Wow! $385,000? I just added it to my shop but I’m not doing outside events at all. I’ll be curious to see revenue this year. So far, it’s about 25% of store sales.

    • @stonesandfindings
      @stonesandfindings  4 місяці тому

      Yes, please let us know how it goes - I think everyone wants to know. 25% is a great start especially if you just added it. Remember - you need to advertise that you have it.
      -weld lots of bracelets on yourself - you can test how each chain wears and show customers.
      -show it all over social media
      -if you're not on a busy street with random walk-ins, then you want to do events outside to bring in the traffic.
      -if you're not crazy busy at the store, or if you have sufficient staff to help, you could consider contacting event planners (like weddings, batmizvahs etc). THis way, they can come see your work, know that you're established, then hire your services for this. (You might need to purchase a backup welder for this). THis will drive lots of traffic to your store, even for your regular merchandise. The whole idea is to get exposure. Yes, you'll earn very good money on the side, but you want to build traffic for your store. Guests love shopping after an exciting and fun occasion and see what else you have.
      Good luck!

    watching from toronto! how much are the in person trainings and where is the location for it

    • @stonesandfindings
      @stonesandfindings  3 місяці тому +1

      Yay! Fellow Torontonian. I am located in the King and Bathurst area. If you have not yet purchased a welder, we offer packages which includes the lessons. If you have purchased a welder, in person one-on-one lessons are $400/hr with me (or if you have staff and would like to include them, I can accomodate upto 3 students comfortably). Everyone can learn and master it within that time. I have yet to have someone who hasn't.
      I don't have group lessons right now, but I've had many requests and I have not yet figured things out.
      The best thing to do is to email me at sales@stonesandfindings.com with any questions if you're interested - then I can give you a more specific and helpful answer.
      Thanks.

    Is it possible to hire someone to apply the jewelry to customers??

    • @stonesandfindings
      @stonesandfindings  3 місяці тому

      Yes, absolutely. Training costs are not very high in most cases because it is simple to master. You can also see about collaborating with someone who is already experienced and see if they want to work part-time, if you have a store. I've created a free-online service - PJ Match Finder.
      It connects PJ artists and stores/boutqiues/salons who might be interested in hosting
      pop-ups together.
      THis video explains it better:
