Very nice guards. I wish with the Kaiser, we would have our traditions back and our uniforms. Anyway, it is good to see a strong country with such beautiful traditions. I was in Sweden and saw the change of the guards. Greetings from Germany.
Soldiers in blue uniform are from the Livskvadron (Mounted Royal Guards, most likely conscripts at the time of this video, but consists of professional soldiers today), those in gray uniforms and brown berets are Home Guard (Hemvärnet) soldiers. They are reservists, and live civilian lifes but do two military exercises each year and will be called to immediate service if Sweden would be attacked, and help during crisis such as floods, forest fires, missing people etc. Also they have prior military experience, such as conscription or at a minimum volunteered basic training. Just in case anyone was interested/wondering :)
XenuriWeb Sweden has it's own proud traditions. Only Wehraboos see a helmet of that style and immediatly start calling the whole thing Prussian or German
Okay props to the band. Playing instruments on horses ... I mean you gotta worry about getting the notes right, the timing right, don't dropping your stuff (especially the sticks) and then the horse not getting pissed and bucking you off.
They are also very Swedish! The Pickelhaube is for sure german and born in the late 1800's if Im correct. Today the Swedish Life Guards (Livgardet) are most known around the globe for wearing these.
I knew this wasn't Poland (blue isn't Polish at all). I couldn't think of where its at even though I know where its at. Like trying to figure out what word youre trying to say in a conversation.
The mounted band of the Royal Lifeguard march from their baracks at 11:45 almost every day in August. The actual changing of the guard at the Palace starts at 12:15. Be there in good time to get a good place. It´s quite impressive to watch the ceremony. Good luck!
Since I have been a royal guard myself I can inform you. The royal guards military duty is the defence of the capital, using assault rifles, machine guns, snipers and the standard weaponry of any modern infantry unit. The unit is the oldest still existing military unit in the world, and has been guarding the palace for about 500 years. We have no intention on breaking the tradition. For ceremonies during the summer old rifles are used by two units, but otherwise it's modern rifles.
The pickelhaube is a swedish helmet with ancestries from 1879. The model changed year 1900 and again 1927 when the first and second dragoon regiments merged together, and is the model weared yet today by The Royal Life Guards and its dragoons.
This is beautiful. I wish so that we would treasure our nation our order and our traditions instead of destroying everything to replace it with rootlessness ignorance and anarchism. Its just a matter of time before this disappears for good.
@anbr90 There are royal guards that are not participating in the ceremony located in the courtyard. The keep an eye on the audience and will interfere with people that are not behaving.
The rifles are certainly perfectly working items of Carl Gustaf's Gevärsfaktori Husqvarna, from licence of Germany Mauser. Chambered in 6.5 X 55 Swedish/Norwegian.
+tewkewl Simple reason. The unit in blue is a cavalry unit so normally they are on horses. The livsquadron, as they are called, have many women applying because of the horses. More women know how to ride.
I just like the Swedish way of presenting their Kingdom! It is down to earth and traitional as well and not too bombastic! ;-) Spend some wonderfull days in Stockholm some weeks ago.
The belong to the first cavalry regiment which has changed its horses to light armour and other vehicles and yes they are fully trained as a light armour regiment. we are a small country we can not afford to have showsoldiers.
@otangis I am half Danish already. But even so, Denmark is part of the EU. It's free for all citizens to cross the borders. And it's even easier for scandinavians to switch nations between nordic countries since we're so compatible.
VictorLepanto True, but it is still a pickelhaube. If I remember correcly there were german versions that included a neck guard as well, made out of leather though.
Lovisa Orsta No, they have it because they had it a 100 years ago or so together with the uniforms. This regiment was founded around 1540 or so, so they have a solid tradition.
Lovisa Orsta They are not German, you did notice the title, Stockholm is not in Germany. As for the helmets, it was military fashion pre WW1 that is why they have them.
Check with the Armed Forces Music Centre if they have any openings: forsvarsmakten dot se slash fomusc slash . It says on the english pages that citizenship is necessary for employment but I don't think that goes for the bands; there were applicants from australia a couple of years ago. To get ahead, familiarize yourself with fanfare- alto and bass trumpets, and learn Swedish Eb kornett youtube lRd-JklKQzE But beware: it takes lots of time to polish the boots and the helmet! :)
I was a royal palace guard myseld, kid. The are obliged by regulations to look well-dressed, since we represent the Royal Life Guards regiment while standing at the castle courtyard - we can't look like hobos! And really, don't underestimate us; we are more than well-drilled for battle. We are the best! Responsible for teh safety of the capital, as well as His Royal Heighness' safety, and the government would we be at war.
I wish the British guards would copy the Swedish kettle drums. They have a much fuller sound than the British ones. You can actually hear the pitch, while the British kettle drums only make a muffled noise.
In MMA i ofcourse mean a mix of mainly Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Also military training is around the corner because where i live its either that or jail.
Indeed I am looking for things that can unify us. A royal family is the strongest national symbol a country such as ours can have. They're of historical and cultural importance, not only to Sweden, but also to Europe. It costs money, yes. But so does immigration. Immigration even cost us thousands of lives, but people arent complaining about that nearly as much as on the Royal family. If you're looking for money holes there are far better targets to turn your gaze to in this country.
It was the military fashion back then. Pickelhaube is a term for the type of helmet, even though the word is German. It's got the Swedish small coat of arms (three crowns) surrounded by two lions and banners on the plate in front. The model itself is Swedish, though inspired by the Prussian fashion. It's not like the British, who "stole" their bearskins from the French.
Those uniforms are glorious.
Валерий Ревякин You are wrong. This kind of uniforms were not used in Poltava nor Gangut.
Just for the records, "Battle of Narva".
Валерий Ревякин Depends on who you ask, but yes, they have clear similarities.
Doomsday No they do not, the Carolinian uniform was dark blue and much more utilitarian, these are show troops.
Krister Andersson Since the person I conversated with has deleted his comments you can't tell what we were discussing.
those helmets are freaking beautiful! that uniform in general top to bottom is so regal and gorgeous!
Very nice guards. I wish with the Kaiser, we would have our traditions back and our uniforms. Anyway, it is good to see a strong country with such beautiful traditions. I was in Sweden and saw the change of the guards. Greetings from Germany.

This looks very Prussian. Very nice indeed
XenuriWeb Sweden has it's own proud traditions. Only Wehraboos see a helmet of that style and immediatly start calling the whole thing Prussian or German
+XenuriWeb At the moment the swedish military is more German than the Bundeswehr and Bundesheer. :/
To feminine to be Prussian
Okay props to the band. Playing instruments on horses ... I mean you gotta worry about getting the notes right, the timing right, don't dropping your stuff (especially the sticks) and then the horse not getting pissed and bucking you off.
Those are some sharp uniforms!

Johny de Bois-Guilbert OMG sant!
Johny de Bois-Guilbert 12 hopp precis!
Johny de Bois-Guilbert Swedish nutters - I like our Danish Royal Guards VGTKMP "GRUPPE" better ;)
RPlasticPirate
They don´t have the skill do perform swedish christmas carrol dances.
Johny de Bois-Guilbert True they don't do dance as such like swedish polisen but very one of them can do precision tattoo
I really like the uniforms and music.
Anyone know what the band is playing when the bandsmen arrive on their horses? And also when the troops dismount from the horses?
This instills pride in having Scandinavian blood!
True Megan my great grandmother was born to Stockholm's
Amerimutts
I love their uniforms. The helmet is a mix of the old roman helmet, and the german helmet during world war one. Just love it.
This uniform is one of the best ones out here, the pickelhaubes are really cool
Seem very prussian.
Jonny indeed
@@jonny2954 not at all
Love their uniforms especially their helmets #madeinGermany
They are also very Swedish! The Pickelhaube is for sure german and born in the late 1800's if Im correct. Today the Swedish Life Guards (Livgardet) are most known around the globe for wearing these.
I like the spats. Does anyone still wear knee high spats or whatever you call it? No one wears these anymore really.
I knew this wasn't Poland (blue isn't Polish at all). I couldn't think of where its at even though I know where its at. Like trying to figure out what word youre trying to say in a conversation.
Love those coats, beautiful blue.

Are those guys trained soldiers like the Guards Division in the UK?

Totally like there deep blue uniforms. ;D.
Yeah it's like watching the Grenadier guards in reverse colours.
Sweden! A country filled with blue men and patient horses! Viva la Suecia!
Wrong, we say länge leve sverige

Is every changing of guard likie this, playing music and stuff? :D
yeah
This is beautiful. I wish so that we would treasure our nation our order and our traditions instead of destroying everything to replace it with rootlessness ignorance and anarchism. Its just a matter of time before this disappears for good.
Om du gjort lumpen borde du väl veta att i militären finns det traditioner sedan många hundra år tillbaka som man följer?
Can't you keep the camera still?
r u sure its not trooping the colours? do the do this every day?
That's a pretty awesome band.
Does anyone knows the marches?
@anbr90 There are royal guards that are not participating in the ceremony located in the courtyard. The keep an eye on the audience and will interfere with people that are not behaving.
can someone tell me when the changing occurs is it weekly, monthly etc cause i want to take a trip to Sweden one day and see this
Eric Torres daily
The rifles are certainly perfectly working items of Carl Gustaf's Gevärsfaktori Husqvarna, from licence of Germany Mauser. Chambered in 6.5 X 55 Swedish/Norwegian.
Don't they have the canon turned the wrong way?
so many female guards. I understand equality and all that, but there seem to be more women than men.
tewkewl the reason is simple, it's because 50/50 is sexist, so women has to be in the majority for it to count as gender equal, wellcome to Swedistan
tewkewl Guns are a great equalizer.
+tewkewl They're useless anywhere else, so they get to become the tourist attraction.
+tewkewl Simple reason. The unit in blue is a cavalry unit so normally they are on horses. The livsquadron, as they are called, have many women applying because of the horses. More women know how to ride.
+tewkewl the ones in bright blue uniforms, are military police.....lots of females there =)
How often does that happen?
@sabbersolo Its the march of the Royal Lifeguard Dragoons, "Dragonerna Komma".
På vilket sätt var den onödig?
Det där var ju inte hela bytet. Sög deras insprångsmarsch eller?
@wirman777 what you se on the video they have done it for 200 years...
I just like the Swedish way of presenting their Kingdom! It is down to earth and traitional as well and not too bombastic! ;-) Spend some wonderfull days in Stockholm some weeks ago.
Prussian helmets?
Great Lion of North
Greetings from Brazil
As an aside I REALLY want to be one of the trumpeters in that band. BADASS!!!
3:15 Can someone please remind me the name of this march?
Swedes are probably the most underrated people of Europe
The costume rental place called, they need the uniforms back for a high school production of The Merry Widow
damn those uniforms are awesome
I like how well fitted the uniforms are.
why swedish guard are wearing the ww1 german helme (sorry for my english hope can understand )
А где это конкретно?
damn that horse with dem drums ( Drums of Warhorse ) :D
Superb, we should stick with this lot!
Those uniforms are a beautiful colour.
I like Sweden since my grandparents came from Stockholm's then moved the USA .
Yes, to some extent. Regular weapon and physical training. Allowed to shoot and kill under extreme conditions.
Where The Castle is? Its' on Lejonbacken to be xact
I came here for the Swedish mausers
Look like the Kaisers men...........................
The belong to the first cavalry regiment which has changed its horses to light armour and other vehicles and yes they are fully trained as a light armour regiment. we are a small country we can not afford to have showsoldiers.
the different height of the guards make it look like a common crowd. The uniforms are beautiful tho
Is that Napoleon?
Hurra för alltid för Sverige !
Hows greece nowadays?
"Imperial" is the first thing that comes into mind, watching their unifroms. Also, that blue.
Anthony Skerdig Yes yes all White people are by definition imperialstic.
***** Sarcasm.
@otangis I am half Danish already. But even so, Denmark is part of the EU. It's free for all citizens to cross the borders. And it's even easier for scandinavians to switch nations between nordic countries since we're so compatible.
3:28 *PAUSE* längst till vänster, Kpt Haddock?
once upon a time there lived a princess in a magical kingdom, far far away....
Those pickelhauben are pretty cool.
One of them was smiling. And they know they're not supposed to be smiling
... I mitten menar du?
I see the old Prussian helmets are still all the rage in Sweden. Looks cool.
These are real blues. Not the black you see that us marines, and navy wears
goosebumps for the three crown flag :O
Jag älskarr mitt sverige :3
It's not about seperation. Its about identity, genetic survival and pride. This is all very instinctual. Don't forget that humans are animals.
Man that guard is huge!
Yes it is and they belong to an independent dragoon battalion that normally are mechanized except on occasions like this.
I must say those uniforms are quite a nice shade of blue...
Some of the best moments in my life was when i served at the royal guards.
Flotte hjelme, bruger de helmet-shine? :D
Wikipedia says, the Swedish copied it from Prussia?
And why do you call it "Pickelhaube" ? sounds German to me.
That is one very smart group of soliders i didnt realise that Swedes still had a Monarch !!!
I love the pickle hobs. They look like they are part Roman legionaries & part Prussian junkers.
They are german and called Pickelhaube. Born in the late 1800's
KJ David As for the "pickelhaubes," these Swedish helmets have a neck guard the German versions didn't have.
VictorLepanto True, but it is still a pickelhaube. If I remember correcly there were german versions that included a neck guard as well, made out of leather though.
Är det inte dags att vi tar tillbaka Finland, Norge och St. Petersburg :D
why do they wear the German style helmets ?
Not to sure but the queen is German so maybe it has something to do with that?
Could be
Lovisa Orsta No, they have it because they had it a 100 years ago or so together with the uniforms. This regiment was founded around 1540 or so, so they have a solid tradition.
