Another lovely video which really brightened a dull and dreary December day. Bodrugan Barton was home to Sir Henry Bodrugan who fought for Richard III against Henry Tudor. After Henry became king, Bodrugan was charged with treason and when his enemies came to arrest him he fled the mile or so to the coast where he evaded his pursuers by leaping off the cliff to a waiting boat, which took him to safety in France. The cliff became known as Bodrugan's Leap and can be found just along the coast from Colona Beach.
Guys, thank you!! We are in Meva right now and thanks to this video we made our way around this walk today. We would never have thought to walk that way if we'd not seen your video. Colona was our pup's first ever visit to a beach! So thank you!! 🙏
You two are like Laurel and Hardy sometimes! A good giggle was just what I needed and I will spare you any more Hand Jokes as I can see that others have contributed theirs!! I love a Ghost Story, and Hugh Bodrugan was a character in Poldark of course...the lecherous Lord of the Manor who was always chasing after Demelza! Having gone from Tier 1 to Tier 3 here in Kent, I needed cheering up and this was just the ticket today. How Kent managed to jump into the fire when we have just had a Lockdown, beats me. Make the most of being in Tier 1 you two, and keep putting up your lighthearted history walks. They are a ray of sunshine in troubled times. J xx
My mum was born and bred In Mevagissey although I was brought up in Plymouth, I spent a lot of every summer holiday there. The house you were standing outside saying it looked like it was built into the rock was my Auntie Minnie and Uncle Jack’s when I was a small girl. She used to moan that picture calendars always seemed to include pictures of The Cliff and it was often taken when she had her washing out for the world to see. Wonderful memories, thank you 😊
Oh how funny! Isn't that just what people worry about - their hair for photos and if the washing is out! But then who could blame her! Wonderful cottage! Sarah :)
Nice to see you both again in a familiar place !! Again more memories!! Been to that pub in Portmellon😁 and it was a scorching hot day you never forget these places and drove that road into Mevagissey but got stuck in a jam in Mevagissey no one was going anywhere. I'm sure you know how tight Mevagissey is. After that I always parked in the car park!! Had a meal at the pub in the Harbour at Mevagissey evening time and the lights across the harbour are so pretty. It seems a lifetime ago with this year as it's been but lots of memories everywhere for me in Cornwall. Lovely you chose from Portmellon to walk. I agree with Andrew totally on which house he preferred more in keeping with the area. I'd like a tiny traditional cottage with a dog. Happiness!! Thanks for sharing 🥰
Thank you both once again for another great video, you have brightened my day/week and I'm sure many other people's. Was at Mevegisse beginning of October, just love Cornwall can't wait for next week's video. Keep safe xx
House on the Strand a great book. Read it several times. Lovely walk and video. Don't care for those new houses. Think a Bodrugan featured in Poldark too?
Beautiful picture perfect cottages in Mevagissey Harbour...amazing to learn just how old some of them are! Penwarne Manor definitely seems to have an 'atmosphere' about it!. Laughed so much watching the Carew/carpenter sketch - wonderful stuff! Also looking forward to the next accommodation break 🎄
I just want to say my wife bought me the Colona beach sea glass picture for my 60th birthday today. Thank you we have now got a small piece of Cornwall in our home.
This was indeed an ‘andsome’ video, full of entertainment & fun with your handful of jokes. Loved the beach and that gentle lapping of the waves, the beach did remind me of Talland Bay (I remember the steep climb well). It took a brave seagull to walk across the concrete path & I wonder if he survived to fly another day? Looking at the clip on Portmellon, I wonder if the slip was used for a lifeboat in years gone bye. The video was just the tonic we all need in these worrying times. Thank you.
Oh my! That handless man, then the one-eyed guy who stumbled off his lawn into the sea~~~inundated by giggles & haints. Understood, we mean no disrespect - but sometimes the jokes just write themselves. Your Mister's presentation + yr reaction = classic & so cute!
A great video so beautiful and the haunting place and the man who was armless lol great history .We have our first grand chat of a little girl Willow Rose cane 2 weeks early 19 th November she so cute very good baby 👶 .Look forward to your next video thank you stay safe
Another lovely little wander... Mevagissey is the bane of my life! My brain says 'Mevagissy' but my mouth always says 'Megavissey' if I'm not really watching it! Loved the role play! But, Andrew, you missed another opportunity for a gag... Carew could have asked his man to give him a hand?!?!?!? :D x
Another great video, thank you! I was interested in the part about Otto Bodrugan (my ancestor) I’ll have to read that book! Keep safe, look forward to the next video :)
I loved to "walk with you" around lovely Mevagissey. I was there in 2012 but never got to walk in the surroundings. I remember the beautiful harbour and the fudge shops 😁 Again great filming, interesting and funny stories and a catch of pretty sea glass 😄😃 Have a lovely weekend. Torunn 😊
Disappointed. I was waiting for Andrew to do a joke about going to the ‘second hand shop’. But that idea may have got lost in the multiple retakes of the ‘can’t draw it, I’m right handed sketch’! 😂😂 Another great video and lovely walk with fascinating history. 👍
Brilliant! We love all your videos, and this one no exception! Love the jokes! The "Wooden Hand" brewing company from Cornwall takes it's name from this hand, John Carew was an ancestor of one of the original owners. Love your sea glass artwork too, Sarah!
@@CornishWalkingTrails yes I think you're right. Shame. They had a little brewery out at Grampound Road, I visited them once and bought a crate! Most agreeable, and thoroughly nice chaps!
Sarah and Andrew, loved this video +++ Andrew your quips make me laugh and then when you both set one another off as in the tale of Carew, that set me off too. 😂 Thanks for cheering us all up on a really dreary, dull day not to mention "Corona gate" Lots of love xx
Your making a good " fist", of things , keep up the good work, a big "thumbs" up from me😉, . I point the "finger" of blame on Andrew for all the takes it took to tell the joke !! He needs to get a "grip" , mind you it's all "armless" fun .Its "handy" he carries a book with him to quote from all the time ! Seriously, you two make alot of people happy with your videos, keep up the good work 👍
Lovely video. I too, am right handed but on the other hand, I am not as nutty as you and Andrew! Just joking. As usual, I thoroughly enjoyed this video including your silly skit about the one handed carpenter. Some lovely still shots that delighted. Thank you both so much.
Hi guys I really miss the Pubs back home and my favourite Pub is one with a great pub garden, picnic benches and view of landscape or simply surrounded by lots of potted and hanging plants and fairy lights ,do you have a favourite Pub Garden or Favourite Pub for Views or simply just your favourite for friendly people and atmosphere ?
I think I detected a more rhotic Cornish accent in your cute role playing there. I read that the English colonists here in America most likely spoke with a rhotic West Country accent because although the non-rhotic way of speaking existed in Britain, it was not widespread yet. Anyway, really enjoyed all the interesting bits of history you shared here, not to mention how beautiful Mevagissey is. Did you say your grandfather wrote that book?
I think my Great-grandfather had an input, there are lots of notes and changes as if he proof read it, but that is only surmising on my behalf! Sarah :)
As a road not a track, the road out of Tallan Bay is the steepest i have walked in Cornwall, but theres one in Penryn that comes close. Plenty of fun in this weeks film.

Just found your channel and have subsequently subscribed. What delightful videos. All the best, Steve.
Welcome aboard! And I hope you continue to enjoy some of our other videos. Sarah :)
Well l’ve got to hand 🤚 it to you that was a top video. Thanks for posting.

You two are amazing. I love going to megavissy. I'm now in busy London with too much traffic and noise. Thank you for cheering me up with this video x
Our pleasure! Sarah :)
Brings back great memories Good video
Enjoyed this! The blocked off windows on Penwarne Manor might well be a result of the Window tax. Best wishes John
Oh yes! Good point! Beautiful house! Sarah :)
House on the Strand a great book. Read it several times. Lovely walk and video. Don't care for those new houses. Think a Bodrugan featured in Poldark too?
Thanks for your relaxing video. Love the one armed man story because it's armless fun. 🍷🍺👍🏼🐶🐾🐾🐶
We were in stitches! Sarah :)
Love Mevagissey. Stayed at the Ship Inn with my second wife on our honeymoon. Brilliant video guys. Thanks. Nick on the bridge.

Ah yes, would love to do an accommodation vlog but alas they are all shut at the moment!! Sarah :)
It's time you two had a well deserved break. Hope the hotels and B&Bs open up again soon x @@CornishWalkingTrails

Indeed! We were laughing at our own incompetence! But once I started giggling, that was it! Sarah :)
Lovely. I appreciated the history lesson and the jokes. Stay safe and healthy!
Great video! Thanks x
I’ve got to hand it to you, that was a great video.

Watching you pick sea glass is so relaxing to me for some reason.
Lovely walk!
Something brightening for a dark and "grumpy" day here in Germany. 👏🕯👏Have a wonderful first Christmastime weekend.
Thank you! You too! Sarah :)
Have you guys ever done Park Head walk ? It's only a couple of miles but has great views

We tried to get hold of a bottle of beer for the video but I think Andrew said they may have gone out of business unfortunately. Sarah :(

I have the Ward Lock guide bought New in 1960s! Still in the caravan. Once heard someone say they were in Mega Vissy.
Oh how wonderful that you have the book from new! We tend to call it 'Meva', Sarah :)

Fun video.
Loving the seagulls foot prints in the concrete 🤣🤣🤣
One very heavy seagull! Sarah :)
When in Port Mellon, if you had turned the other way from looking at the iron slipway tracks going down to the water, you would have seen a boatyard !
I saw the row of holiday cottages within the boatyard premises and did wonder if it was connected. Sarah :)
It’s a famous boat yard and we live in the house opposite the beach, not all holiday homes!
Those rail lines? Anything to do with the old lifeboat that used to be stationed there?

Love your videos, the timeline of building various extensions on buildings is called Morphology.
Thanks for the info! I will try and remember that and slot it in, so that I look really good - lol!! Sarah :)
Where she stood for the intro is where my Nan passed out on holiday
I enjoy the Fowey - Mevagissey ferry when I’m in the area.

You live in an ancient land. Encountering ghosts is not surprising. They startle us but will not harm you.
I could never have a wooden hand ✋for 1 simple reason it just wood'nt be fully functional😁
My grandfather was John Carew, he had both hands at the end . . .
😂
