  • Launching a large home built model rocket that is powered by 2 C engines in a side by side cluster. We use a DIY 12 volt system for the launch then describe how we built it.

    That was great! I made a triple engine rocket but could never get 3 engines to ignite. I wired two new 6 volt lantern batteries together for 12 volts but it didn't work. I'm thinking of wiring them in parallel for more amps. ( I did get a good launch with a single C5-3 in the middle engine position )

      I have found that the engines don't all ignite simultaneously. So the igniters need to be in parallel to keep the later ones heated that extra split second. I also now give lots of lead length so igniters can go with the rocket up the launch rod instead of the clips being pulled off when the first engine(s) get the rocket moving
