Because many of you asked me the size of drill bits you have all kit seizes below :
M5x0.8 use 5.2 drill bit - 5x0.8 tap
M6x1.0 use 6.2 drill bit - 6x1.0 tap
M8x1.25 use 8.3 drill bit - 8x1.25 tap
M10x1.5 use 10.3 drill bit - 10x1.5 tap
M12x1.75 use 12.4 drill bit - 12x1.75 tap
tnx master very informative tutorial,
is possible to use 2 or3 helicoils in the same hole if bolt is much longer? thx
@smartphone9828 Yes, but it's very hard to match the threads to all three, but if you're good enough, yeah, you can, but it's very hard.
When using loctite in a blind hole application like this, it's better to apply it into the hole than onto the bolt or insert. Being liquid, the loctite will flow out along the threads while the bolt is inserted.
Hi mate, that can be risky and may cause cracks, so i never do that. It holds very well applied on bolt anyway.
@@WRCgarage do you use Loctite or something else? Thanks
Yeah bro not called loctite, its called thread locker, its special for bolts
As you were screwing in that stud all I could think was, “still no torque wrench, huh?”
Lol anyways, I think i ordered the same kit, how is it? How has it held up?
You wont be able to breack that thread with 2 counter nuts tight each other, i havent breack the thread because i havent use a torque wrench but because its a nearly 400hp car that things can happend from excess of heat and heavy turbocharger with a heavy custom manifold, so its not always what it looks, the helicoil insert did a great job even on engine mounts , so definately its one of the best thread repair things.

Just bought this kit after breaking a tap in the timing chain guide excellent tool
La mine sa dus filetul unde intra bolțul rolei intinzatoare de la distributie ! Se poate remedia problema la fel ca in cazul din video ? 😊
Defapt filetul unde intra acel bolț… scuze
@@adrianghisoiu6059 Da merge fara probleme
@@WRCgarage Multumesc pentru video și INFO ! Sănătate 🙂
Nice. Too bad my stripped cam cap bolt is on the back of the motor up against the firewall. It should be fun trying to get in there to tap and insert the coil. Wish me luck.
Good luck 😊
I had a similar problem on a motorcycle had to drop the engine which was a lot of work just to drill out & tap one hole.....dud you manage to sort yours out? Take care
Mine is ok now, im very happy with that insert it works really well for me and i think if you do it properly it really worth it. Take care.
@@WRCgarage Glad you got it sorted, nothing worse than cocking it up!
How did it turn out, sir?
Salut oare sus la capacul negru de cat vine tarodul m cat?mersi
Salut, scuze de intarziere, nu stiu exact dar probabil 8 ca e gaura de 6.
Hello, when the new thread is finishedl and plan inserting say a M8 Helicoil in, does the Helicoil threads expands a bit inside the new thread or stays fully compressed once in as delivered ? Thanks in advance.
Hello, it stays compresed exactly as you see it outside as the sharp shape doesn't let it expand inside as will not hold the bolt to be tight then.
Thanks, made the test with a 15 mm M8 x1.25 Helicoil coiled on a hard wooden 19 mm border to border slat, once fully coiled with tool the Helicoil expanded side to side near the full 19 mm slat width, was wondering if will do the same inside an outboard crankcase. Want to repair a striped thread with a 15 mm Helicoil on a 16 mm blind orifice and if expands will be difficult to remove the extra portion comming out of the orifice, that's why the tech inquiry.
Hi, It should work fine on a bit hard materials, if not its pretty easy to remove it our with some pliers or a screwdriver, so it woth a try.
Danke
Brilliant ...
Hello. The tread hole you fix is M8 size? And what helicoil repair kit size you use?
Hi, it is a special one for M8 hole.
8mx1.25 is most common
Thank you. The instruction page and everyone else on UA-cam say to only insert 1/2 turn below the surface, but the threads on my cylinder head cover go well below the surface. Was wondering if it would be okay for me to install the Helicoil well below the surface, so thank you for doing so!
You can go as far as you want inside, that's not a problem, mine are same and they have no problem.
When be needed a long thread, can be installed two inserts in the same hole ?
I havent try, usually one its enough, but i suppose you can insert 2 aswell.
Tegyél bele 2D betétet!
Great how-to, but too much loctite, just one drop at the begining of the thread will be sufficient to be able to do capillary action and does not trap air inside.
Yeah i know i put by mistake too much 😅, everything was ok anyway
02 Elantra......Anyone know what torque limit should be on this
Helicoil's on a Timing Belt tensioner pulley Bolt which calls for 38Ft
pound will these Helicoils hold up to 38 Ft of torque
No ideea mate, you should find some info on google...
@@WRCgarage Thanks
For a bolt 6 x 12 is one helicoil enough ?
Hello mate, yes should be enough, they are very strong.
I need that kit, will help me out a lot.
does the helicoil back out if i change the bolt that has blue loctite on it but not the insert...thanks
I dont know, probably will come out but depend how stuck is it there.
I have done helicoils on a Subaru and even put 2 in back to back and ran the head bolt in to make sure it lined up and no issues on the reverse 👍
Why should I use helicoil..like I can drill and tap ..so why helicoil
..I done the tapping so it will hold my thread bolt right..
Please some one give me ans
Because if you drill and tap you will need to use a bigger bolt/screw after, but if you use helicoil you will be able to use original bolt/screw.
@@WRCgarage suppose I have used a M8 tap then I will use M8 bolt right..what is the big deal in that....
You are saying I will put helicoil where wire thickness will be 2 mm and I will use M4 bolt..why should I do such rework?
Ok, i see you are hard understanding, let's say you overtight the screw in cylinder head and you rip all thread of that hole yeah ? How do you retap it again doing another thread keeping same bolt size ?
@@WRCgarage ok you are saying if I some how damage the tap then helicoil will be the saviour right...?
Exactly, that was the best option, at least fo me with probably stronger hold than aluminium.
I was thinking to redo the tread on my caliper but now I don't think it's worth the shot anymore.. it's something that i would have to take off from time to time and it's just not worth it the time
You should try it i think its worth.
was it repair kit for M8 thread?
ok i find it in coment section :D thx
Yes for m8
What drill bit size for M8 1.25
Bro i dont know for sure and im not able to check right now as im away, i think for m8 you have an 10.8 mm drill bit .
Update, just got a new kit again and now i can confirm exactly the size, so:
M5x0.8 use 5.2 drill bit - 5x0.8 tap
M6x1.0 use 6.2 drill bit - 6x1.0 tap
M8x1.25 use 8.3 drill bit - 8x1.25 tap
M10x1.5 use 10.3 drill bit - 10x1.5 tap
M12x1.75 use 12.4 drill bit - 12x1.75 tap
@@WRCgarage how u can use a 8mm tap for a 8mm bolt? I mean if you want to fit a 8mm bolt then why you first drill a hole more then 8mm using 8.3mm bit and then using a 8mm tap which is tight in that 8.3 mm hole. And then you put a m8 wire thread into that hole ( idk now what is the size of the hole its confusing now lol) then again fit a m8 bolt. How is it possible? Please correct the tap size
Bro, just buy the kit and you will see, the helicoil its just a slim thread insert its nothing big...
@@WRCgarage i know but if u measure the included tap which mentioned m8 but its more than 8mm. How is it possible
What is that green fluid ?
Its studlock for preventing loosening.
I'm thinking to helicoil my sump plug but am worried about metal shavings in the sump? Should I take the sump off?
Yes, definately must be taken off.
Thank you!
