This is the good, non-assholish kind of trolling. If he was just taking away his cone over and over, it would have been tiresome and annoying. But with every trick he plays on the customer, he adds a little more of the ice cream onto the cone, making the customer feel like he "earned" that tasty cone by letting the man do his thing. :)

For some of you that are confused, the ones who do tricks like this are Maraş ice cream sellers. It's like a cultural thing. Not all ice cream sellers do tricks like this.
And if you really hate having fun you can always buy your ice cream in some store or something, so that's convenient :P

That is traditional turkish ice cream for you. For just 2-3 bucks you get the best ice cream in the world (trust me, nothing like that mcdonald's shit. THE BEST.) and a great entertainment session.

guy thing It's like saying do you like fillet mignon or foie gras. Well, I like both cause they're completely different. Gelato is a creamy low-air traditional ice cream whereas dondurma is almost like frozen gum with very aromatic flavourings. Both are amazing.

By the way this is NOT ice cream. (I'm German and Turkey is a popular place to go so I've been there many times.) It's less fluid and tastes a bit honey-like. That's why that awesome guy was able to turn the cone around that slowly. It tastes awesome but I don't have the real name for it.

I'm fine with the joke as long as it doesn't go on for too long. Some of the vendors are cool about it, others go on for 5 minutes or more tricking the customer.

I am a Turk and I've never got ice cream from these guys. Because I don't like getting trolled. I would be like "gimme the damn ice cream already!" But then again, it's fun to see tourists get trolled in Sultanahmet, Istanbul. Haha.
Not the milky artificially colored, flavored foamy stuff, Turkish ice cream(dondurma) is the real deal, made of goat's milk(high protein) and wild orchid bulbs(salep) specific to Turkey and not exported, it is extremely tick and stretchy. That's why you still need to earn it even after paying for it.

I’m Turkish and this has happened to me wayyy to much 😭 I don’t live there anymore but I found out all their secrets:) next time I go there I WILL do the same with the money.

Those guys (the ones that do funny tricks like that) only sell specific kind of ice cream which is made in one of the cities in Turkey called Kahramanmaraş (its actually called Maraş but it got the name Kahramanmaraş because thd people that lived in there sacrificed themselves to protect their city (kahraman means hero). The main difference of this ice cream is its hard to cut with a knife, it melts slower than normal ice cream and they put a little bit of pistachio on it while its being served. It tastes awesome btw.
