To me this has always been one of the harder topic about English grammar, but thanks to this video everything is starting to get clearer... thank you Emma! :-)
I love the way she explains gerund and infinitive; it is very useful and necessary to know the different usage of gerund and infinitives of the same word, and I have gotten much more clear now! Thank you!

Hi, Emma, thank you for making these wonderful videos. This is my second one to watch. I do believe that your compound sentence examples should use a semicolon to separate the independent clauses instead of a comma. Thanks!
Great lesson! Very interesting! Thank you for your wonderful videos. One question, are there any differences between like+gerund and like+to like? Thank you!
Hey Emma mam thnx for ur all great English lessons for us😊i lyk to watch ur English lessons videos cuz its vry helpful to learn English nd its very clear to understand...luv uh Emma😘😘
I studied linguistics (and now work as a teacher) and I was thinking about it the other day. I was trying to figure out a simple rule of thumb to differentiate between verb patterns containing a gerund or a to-infinitive. Took me an hour but I finally managed to come up with a rather convincing proposal. If V1 is the presupposing verb, i.e. its realisation determines the realisation of V2, then V2 will be a to-infinitive. Conversely, if V2 is the presupposing verb, i.e. determines the realisation of V1, then V2 will be a gerund. In a way, it makes sense as nominalisation is a way to semantically lend weight to a verb. Ex1: I stopped to smoke. --> I need to stop (my car for instance) before I'm able to smoke. (V1 > V2 = full infinitive) Ex2: I stopped smoking. --> It's impossible to stop smoking if you haven't taken it up first. (V2 > V1 = gerund) Ex3: As soon as I started to play better, I knew I would win that match. --> V1 "start" determines the realisation of "play better". (V1 > V2 = to-infinitive) Ex4: I started playing tennis when I was four years old. --> To take up a sport, you need to play it once first. (V2 > V1 = gerund) Ex5: I like to go to the park on my way home. ("Go to the park" is determined by "like", here referring to a habit.) Ex6: I like going to the park. (It's because I've been to the park before that I know it's an activity I like.) Ex7: Fortunately, I remembered to stop by the store to get some milk! --> I needed to remember that I had to go to the shop so I could stop by it. (V1 > V2 = to-infinitive) Ex8: "There's no milk left!" "There should be! I remember stopping by the store to get some yesterday!" --> I was able to stop by the store only because I recalled I had to go there. (V2 > V1 = gerund). Ex9: I decided to learn German. --> I have to take the decision before I can start learning the language. (V1 > V2 = to-infinitive) Ex10: I can't help laughing when I see him! --> The reason why I can't suppress my laughter is because I laughed first. (V2 > V1 = gerund)
Native speaker here, Your second sentence is perfect! Definitely wash your hands! However, your second sentence does not make sense. You mean to say "I will never forget having my heart broken by my ex-girlfriend" meaning she hurt or broke up with you and this broke your heart.
I wish I had someone to practice with since it speaks another language where I live. I speak with my daughter sometimes and she corrects me all the time so I nearly give up. Thanks for you incredible videos Emma I really appreciate, really useful💕❤️
