    I timed myself and it took my 2 hours and 13 minutes…. I am not good with hands on stuff🤣. Thank you so much for this video. I got this free mower, guy said it was blown up but I noticed it wouldn’t start because the air filter was so caked up with oil. Replaced that and it started. Then I noticed the huge oil leak then fixed it. Thank you!

    I tried the RTV route once. Never again. The engine would not even turn. The gasket is needed not only for sealing, but to maintain the proper crankshaft endplay. Briggs and Stratton carries crankcase gaskets of different thicknesses just for that reason. I wouldn't be surprised if Tecumseh did as well.

    I just got the same mower free and was told the shaft was bent, but the shaft looks good and instead it looks like it's been leaking oil for a while to me. It's probably worth trying this fix! Thanks

      Home Garage - why worry is how long has it been like this and if the engine is damaged due to low oil. I attempted to start it with starting fluid and it runs and quits which probably means carb issue as well.

    • @HomeGaragechannel
      @HomeGaragechannel  6 років тому

      You are correct about the possible damages. If you want you can try to keep the engine running with starting fluid long enough to hear if there is any rod knock.

    • @lesswatt
      @lesswatt 6 років тому +1

      Home Garage - Yes there is a rod knock. I figure that means it's not worth repairing the engine?

    • @HomeGaragechannel

      It's really not worth saving. Just save it for a season for parts just in case you should run into another free mower like it.

    Great vid I am working on the exact same motor. This motor is on a 1995 Sears walk behind weed eater and leaked oil from day one. I hadn't used it in some 20 years so I brought it out, cleaned the carb out real good and changed the oil, I used Amsoil 100% synthetic. That oil leak reappeared with vengeance losing 6 oz of oil in ten minutes! This oil leak was directly below the cylinder and appears to be an engineering fault, Permatex should do the trick!😉

    Helpful. Question: The driveshaft has a spline. amy key was sheared off from the pulley/blade collar but I don't think its replaceable (looks like it was a weld from outside). wierd. Thoughts? If I torque down the blade bolt I dont think it will spin. At least not easily.

    They look remarkably similar to a Briggs & Stratton engine & I've heard that they are basically the same online,I wonder if their parts are interchangeable ?
    The thing is that the Tecumseh company started up 22 years after the Briggs & Stratton company.
    I've had trouble getting employment when I've basically with or for that person whose either a Briggs or a Stratton who does contract work for Komatsu !!!!
    So,I've worked with a Steve Stratton & for a Barry Briggs (Roberts) who has Briggs & Stratton powered air compressors which are kept well maintained.
    I have a Briggs & Stratton mower which is 29 years old & it only needs a new throttle cable & recoil pull start gear.
    I'm hoping they aren't thinking that I'm the sort of person who has to throw that one out,go into town & buy a brand new $139 AUD mower from Aldi !!!!
    Yeah and I have to find out why I need to marry another one of theirs whose 22 years younger than me whose likely another Roberts.
    I'm pretty sure she is my cousins late friends half sister,he died of leukemia in 2004 I think,we went to a local go karting place for my cousins 18 birthday in 1998,she would've just been born when he turned that age.
    They were all Briggs & Stratton powered so I have to find out if that's them.
    Who knows ! I could find out that I'm a Briggs through my grandmothers side (Myers) & it's as if I haven't been liked to her whose anyone Else !!!!
