India has backed efforts by Mauritius to reclaim the Chagos archipelago, which is illegally occupied by the UK and the US. The island is now home to a military base that the two Western powers are unwilling to give up. But how did they come to control this Mauritian land in the first place? Correction; Deago Garcia’ s population was not Christian, but they were forcibly converted to Christianity!
Yeah loads of people didn't know Christianity, colonizers sent in priests and pasters first to change island nation's way of life,they dumbed down people and took land ,cultures, languages, forced them to change totally to the colonizers from Europe and USA ofcourse english.
Infact. Christianity only reached Garcia AFTER THE BRITISH AND THE AMERIcans arrived

After Chritianisation of France, Charlemagne, King of the Franks, forcibly converted the Saxons from their native Germanic paganism and then many crusaders fought against European pagans completely erasing their native culture like in From 1147, the Crusades were fought against pagan tribes in Northern Europe.

Indonesia is a case of continued colonisation by the Javanese, who simply took over where the Dutch left off. Indonesia consists of around 700 islands spread over a vast area, with diverse cultures, languages, religions and despite the national motto "unity in diversity", mayhem and murder ha accompanied this construction. Java and Madura now have more inhabitants than Russia!, and the overpopulation has led to populating other islands with these folks. With predictable results.

How to keep country colonize even in 21st Century?
Simple, just don't call it colony anymore. Call it "Overseas territory" by your name. Example - British overseas territory, French overseas territory.
Not so fast, French overseas territory did not expel people from their land instead they became French citizens and voted to elect the French president while the British treated people of their colonies as subjects.

Great Britain is an island of global shame!
Are you aware that the Mauritian government has given India a lease on Agalega island in order to operate a military base there?. Are you also aware that all but one of the heads of government of Mauritius were of Indian descent?. Mauritius is dominated by folks of Indian descent. Are you also aware that the displaced Chagos islanders that live on Mauritius live a largely segregated existence there? The largest community of Chagos islander descendants live in the U.K., and would generally prefer U.K. citizenship to Mauritian citizenship. And it is doubtful if most of those folks would now wish to return to those remote islands to live as plantation workers, islands that the majority of these folks have never seen. The application of decolonisation legislation as prescribed in international law and the advisory opinion of the ICJ is hard to understand for normal folks. Mauritius never owned Chagos. It is a thousand miles distant!. The company that operated the copra plantations there, the Chagos Agalega company, held the concession given by the British government, and was based in (British) Mahe', Seychelles. It is also doubtful if Mauritius could police the marine protected ares of Chagos, which is about as big as France!. One of the most important marine ecology sites on the planet. Chagos should never be given to Mauritius!.

@@surajitmondal823 The rulebook of international law has some peculiarities that mean that legal positions that are represented by the ICJ can have unsatisfactory consequences. You have to consider the wishes of the descendants of the islanders that were (shamefully) removed all those years ago. In international law, the position was taken that colonies should be given independence, to include regions that were ruled from the administration of that colony. Territorial integrity was thus deemed of greater importance than self determination.
The Lancaster house agreements that were made bitween Mauritius and Britain granted seperation of Chagos from the administration of Port Louis. "Until a time when the Chagos islands are no longer required".
Unfortunately, the rights of the islanders were not considered.
The whole issue was a mess and a violation of human rights. The mistakes were made in the 1960's, and today we have a different world and a different situation. The importance of Chagos from the ecological standpoint is such, that it is of greatest importance that the marine protected area should be preserved. In view of the ICJ ruling, UNCLOS has deemed the protected area illegal. What would you consider best for nature in this case?.
