It's 2023 now. How about on the wrapping paper of each ring set you print "Top" and "Second"? or how about you shrink wrap each and label more clearly with a sticker. Or how about larger font, in RED, on the box flap. With thousands of people doing this you might have learned to do it better instead of insulting us in the video and getting hundreds of inquiries each year. I'd consider myself a fairly smart person, but still missed the tiny font on the flap. Thanks for good quality rings though! If anyone is wondering, LS motors lighter colored rings with red and white paint on them are the moly TOP rings. Darker with little "M" on it are the cast second rings.

"if you hadn't been in such a rush" I feel personally attacked but I'm glad this video exists.

Heres a great idea....put them in individual bags that tell you where they go! No one reads the damn tabs on the inside of a box! Even macaroni and cheese has directions on the freaking outside of the packaging!! "hadn't been in such a rush" ? what an ass thing to say!

Thinking the exact same thing. Seems like a nice man although blaming the consumer for not seeing a flap... if it's the #1 consumer question then maybe you aren't labeling them in the right way. Good thing I don't have a 200 page mahle catalogue to reference....

Because it's normal to check the box flap for instructions....why not save us all some time and put it in the damn instructions?

My comment is not directed towards you in person, it’s more aimed at a lot of people in the piston ring industry in general.
It’s the same with Honda rings. Yup, we know there’s loads of different types … that’s why we’re confused and need instructions. With the old rings it’s obvious which is which, chrome, cast iron, oil rings, etc and it’s all explained in the service manual but the new modern rings don’t look the same and easily confuse idiots like me. I can’t tell my dark grey rings from my light grey rings from my multi-coloured light and dark grey rings.
… wait a minute … I’ve just had a brilliant idea although from the sounds of things it might take a few decades at least to put into action in these ‘modern’ information age times. Did it never once occur to anyone working in a piston ring supplier ever, to put an instruction leaflet showing what order the rings are fitted inside the box. Or …. the manufacturers could stamp the rings, top, bottom, middle, etc or mark them in some way with some sort of ink or pen. Even an A6 size leaflet would do, just a small piece of paper. Most items come with instructions. At least give us a clue. Just the slightest clue. Failing that, then package rings up with one of those nifty ring manuals you’ve got and we can work it out for ourselves. I’ve been phoning up Honda ( searched the internet until my right index finger got blisters ), waited five days for a return call and the people there don’t know, after I’d explained the problem in great detail in the first call, they told me to contact the dealer who I bought them from, they don’t know. Back to Honda … so now I have to take photos and send it to them. What a pain. Why is everything so difficult nowadays, what used to be a two minute phone call and answer, has now taken two weeks so far. Are margins so tight that ring manufacturers can’t afford a slip of paper?
What have I learnt? If you’ve got a broken piston ring, forget about it. Leave it be, no-one cares anymore. It’s not worth the hassle or time wasted. The worst that can happen is that your engine will seize and you’ll just have to buy another one.
