This is the best use of a song in a movie. I always heard this song on either/or liked it and brushed over it, but now every time I hear it I think of the emotional climax and beauty that this scene is.
If you think this is good. The directors choice of using Elliot Smith's Needle In The Hay for The Royal Tenenbaums scene where Luke Wilson is commiting suicide is even better. A song about suffering and suicide in a scene about suffering and suicide chosen by the director (Wes Anderson) who knew Elliot in person & the direction his life was going, who in less than 2 years after it's release committed suicide himself. One of the best & completely eeri, surreal & depressing everytime i watch it since his death.
+James “Duffy” Bond that doesn't make sense. Mainly because there wouldn't be a movie without robin williams. Same way without Damon or Affleck who wrote it.
This movie reminds me of the time before the internet just dominated everything.. I worked at blockbuster and everyone rented this movie.. I just remember that. Blockbuster isn't even around in my town anymore.. it's crazy.
This comment even hits harder now that another decade passed by with the internet becoming everything in all parts of life. Guess it wasnt that crazy 12 years ago. Wish we could just go back to the late 90s and stay there.
It's fair to say that Elliott Smith's music (as was but perhaps to a lesser extent, Danny Elfman's score) was what pushed this film into that realm of "magic". The film is top to bottom, back to front, fabulous. And, as others have said, it would probably be considered so even with a different sound track. That said however, the romance scenes with Skylar and of course the ending credits would be missing so much "extra heart" without Smith's mesmerizing, heart-massaging music. All the elements in this film are collectively, lightning in a bottle and Smith's contribution is softly and subtly....extraordinary.
Fuck, that's an awful moment isn't it? 'I love you', 'take care'. I'm always willing him to say it back. But he never does, no matter how many times I watch it.
The thing that makes this scene so profound is the loss of trust. Skylar extends her love and trust to Will, but he's unable to trust anyone with how he really feels and inadvertently breaks her trust in return.
I really appreciate the haunting atmosphere of the recording. I thought the phrasing was very good and stayed very close to Lennon’s recordings. It’s cool man 🎥
I love the professor's assistant he s like a Greek chorus watching learning and giving advice not the narrator but more of a barometer telling us Which way the wind must blow
aha, normally when I try to talk about Elliott with friends/family it's the opposite and devolves into '...have u seen Good Will Hunting? Yeah? He wrote those songs...'
This is such an infinitely better track than Miss Misery, but too bad it wasn't originally composed for the film's soundtrack, otherwise it could have been nominated for the Oscar.
He's a self-sheltered/protective and damaged person who doesn't let people get close or allow himself to be vulnerable. Refuses to live up to his potential and always self destructs. Literally the entire point of his character. Has nothing to do with him not having feelings for her. You completely misread the entire character.
no mames pinche pelicula con madre i love this fucking movie soy macho pero esta pelicula me hizo llorar elliot smith es una verga into the wild soundtrack with eddie vedder is another fucking bad ass movie
She’s looking for him when boarding, which is so pre-2001.
This movie should feel honored that Elliott was a part of it.
thank god someone said it. I was searching for a comment like this
Brendan Douthit what. Why
This movie was pretty damn good on it's own too
@@gorankaMG yes but he was on of the best songwriters of all time, that's why they should feel honoured
I see no exaggeration.
One of the best movies of all time.
Yea harvey didnt do all bad.
It’s so good
YeaH !! Together with The Shawshank Redemption, il buono il brutto il cattivo, 2001 a Space Odyssee.. and sooo many more

The plane scene footage could have been more interesting.
the timing of the dialogue with the lyrics being cued up right after he says "take care". this movie is a gem
My most favourite movie ever. Such amazing actors and an amazing storyline.
Rest in peace Robin Williams, I love you.
+MissSugarPink would the movie be good enough without Robin Williams ? I think no... Robin enhances the movie from a 6 (without him) to a 8 from 10
+James “Duffy” Bond that doesn't make sense. Mainly because there wouldn't be a movie without robin williams. Same way without Damon or Affleck who wrote it.
Thats true but not the point. Just imagine, there would be this movie - but without him.
+Elliot smith
This scene + choice of song is a masterpiece.
my mother’s been telling me to watch this movie forever i finally finished it last night.
Ive not seen this movie, but "I love you" followed by "take care" is harsh. Love Elliot Smith

Damn bro, 12 years… I hope you’re well.
Amazing movie. Very deep and moving. Adding Elliott Smith's music was the perfect touch.
Amazing movie and one of the best soundtracks of all time. Elliott nailed it's perfect for this movie.
Minnie Driver is so damn good in this movie
Off the charts, good.
This song and this movie get me every time.
One of my favorites. Love Robin. Love Elliott. Rest in Peace guys.
i base my life around this movie...cant get much better
Still here. Still beautiful. Still deeply saddening.
Its a good film, Elliott Smith being associated with it excels it.

So many years and I'm still fucked about Elliot.

Elliott Smith, Gus Van Sant and Robin Williams. What can be wrong?
Fuck, that's an awful moment isn't it? 'I love you', 'take care'. I'm always willing him to say it back. But he never does, no matter how many times I watch it.
What makes it so much worse is that he does he’s just too scared to say it
Elliot smith was a genius
I've been on a big Elliott kick for like the past month. Absolutely genius!
Goosebumbs as soon as the clip started.
That riff
This is the best film I've never seen, the best song and the best scene. Thanks for upload.

@@katiieeardley That's how I describe him to people as well 😂
That’s a shame
