Played for 21 years never pitched, last season my pitcher was out of town for two games and no one else can pitch so I watched this and practiced and started 2 games... went 1-1 with NO walks!!! Thanks for the how to!
Was supposed to play OF this past weekend my pitcher backed out last second... I went into pitching my 1st Utrip tourney didn't have my mask either. Long story short we lost by 1 in the Ship on walk off but now I'm the new pitcher for our team. So here I am watching videos at work to learn lol
Same boat for a church league. Got the text this morning, "we would like for you to pitch." Here I am watchin videos before work 😆 Good luck in your new role Robbie!
2:00 "2-seam" grip controls & cuts ball 3:30 get strike 1, control the count 4:20 deep in the count throw "deep" pitch rather than short 5:00 2nd time thru throw first pitch ball ... totally agree.. the Pitcher is the field general.. it is our job to work/pitch for a desired outcome.. we also field (and if you don't then you should start).. I check with my SS & 2B every batter when somebody is on base.. to make sure we all know who has coverage.. pitching is FUN if you take it a bit more serious and really get into the inner-game of the game.
We totally agree. It's truely a softball skill of its own. It seems like a fair amount of non-pitchers don't understand the complexities but I hope this sheds a bit of light on the subject
I'm also a lefty, only started pitching 2 years ago, last year a really good lefty showed me the same pitch you use, so I started to only use that pitch. I'm still trying to perfect my accuracy. At times I have to throw the same way to ensure I don't walk too many. Sometimes I walk none and other games i walk up to 3. I do get at least 1 K and/or a foul out per game also. This video will help me when I develop more control throughout the whole game. I will watch this video many times.
Thanks for watching! We are really glad so many people have gotten so much value out of this video. Stay tuned for more pitching content in the near future.
Hello, Looks like your video indicates that you were at Funston Park in SF. Use to play there back in the 1960’s. Did some umpiring of softball and baseball games back then. Thanks for sharing👍
I had the same thought. It looked like the video started with the clubhouse in the background along Chestnut street. I started playing on that exact field in the early 70's. Elu's Basque restaurant was our sponsor. A lot different with wooden bats.
I play in a corporate slow pitch league in south SF. Watching a few videos with Jamie I see I can learn a whole lot from him! I'm also a palm-up pitcher, with only a few years pitching with intention. I'm trying to learn new pitches. I'm wondering if Jamie is still pitching around the SF area? I'd love to catch a game and maybe pick the man's brain. cheers! ~Dan
Thank you for helping pitchers , there is more to it that « just throw strikes « . I am always working on different pitches and control. It is slow pitch but if I can keep the batters timing off , then my defense can have a chance. Thanks Jamie for your info . Dave J. Fla
Thanks so much David! We'll definitely pass that along to Jamie. We are looking into making some more pitching videos. Anything particular you would like to see?
He absolutely does that! Good pitchers are very strategic. They almost always are pitching to the batter in a way that forces them to hit to a specific spot. Obviously, good batters can try and counter that strategy as well. That's when you really start to see who is out there playing chess and who is still playing checkers.
I think lefties in slow pitch are harder to time without some experience against them. The only benefit to the lefty righty matchup in baseball is getting to see the ball longer which I would personally consider a negative in slow pitch.
Just remind pitchers to practice pitching BP as much as possible and to not get discouraged. It is slow pitch and good hitters can and will hit anything. I started pitching mens fastpitch softball , windmill. And I also was able to pitch behind my back .
Most pitchers I see still back up into the open spot to field unless it is hit to them. When it is hit to them usually they are close enough to run it back or the 5 man can usually come up and cover the bag. If anyone else has another strategy let us know!
Hey Terminator! We recommend trying to throw as much BP as possible. That gives you a lot of opportunities to try different things. When we talked to conference pro Mike Nino, he said he was pitching BP 2-3 sessions per week to hone in his skills. If you don't have anyone to throw to, you can still get a bucket of balls and practice at the diamond just trying to hit your spots. Check out our pitching series for tips & tricks on different pitches to incorporate into your practice sessions. Let us know if you have any other questions.
I've seen his videos and I'm very intrigued. I seem to hear a lot of comments about that style being referred to as "church league spinners". It seems to be a derogatory term. I honestly don't know why. His style seems really effective.
From Jaime : Well regardless (of height limits) my answer would be: Always strive to hit the ceiling 6ft could turn into 8ft depending on the ump Mix up your pitches side to side and and front to back of the plate Basically pitch like you normally would keeping the height limit in mind, then just adjust accordingly
Hey Sam, thanks for the comment. We are definitely planning to do a video on the screwball and knuckleball in the near future. We hope to have it out in the next month or so, but we have a few big tournaments coming up. This is definitely on the short list as we want to give all our pitchers out there some love!
If you are facing our boy Jamie on the mound, he probably knows that already. You'll never see an inside pitch again haha! Is inside your favorite pitch or just one that you hit well?
We know, we know haha! I didn't get the focus locked on the camera and the fog was giving the auto focus fits. Good thing is we learn from our mistakes and I usually get the focus locked now!
😂 If you can cover 2nd base before the guy runs. He’s fat and slow and you don’t need to cover anyways Why would you not have a 5 man anyways? Who runs 4 outfielders…. What kinda league is this? So confused
Thanks for asking Brooks. We play in the city a fair amount and none of the fields have HR fences. Therefore, if you decided to play a 3 man outfield anything in the gap turns into a homerun. Also, most league night teams that I have seen run 4 outfielders. It's actually very common I'm surprised you haven't seen it before.

don't admire the pitch... get into a defensive position immediately...
@@WillyDial yeah I know I watch what goes on from CF I know falling and dropping into position is a key
Robbie maybe try to stick to OF next time. Leave the pitching to the professionals.

Sober softball game in Dublin today. I’m going to try this lol.

Pitching for the first time the season, this video helped! For ASA regulations, goes over everything my uncles would talk about when they pitched lol
Good to hear! Glad we could help!
I found that two beers is the sweet spot. There is an exponential drop off after 4 but I am 5'8" 150 lbs and your numbers may vary
Hahahaha thanks for the tip legend 👍
Hello,

We we're not at Funston exactly but very close by! Thanks for watching

Jamie is such a beast. Question, I wonder if Jamie ever pitches knowing the ball to force a fly ball that is easy to catch in the outfield?
He absolutely does that! Good pitchers are very strategic. They almost always are pitching to the batter in a way that forces them to hit to a specific spot. Obviously, good batters can try and counter that strategy as well. That's when you really start to see who is out there playing chess and who is still playing checkers.
Whoever recorded this loves the focus button lol
Yes, yes, we know haha! We actually forgot to LOCK the focus and it kept trying to auto focus. I think the fog was giving the auto focus issues.
I think lefties in slow pitch are harder to time without some experience against them. The only benefit to the lefty righty matchup in baseball is getting to see the ball longer which I would personally consider a negative in slow pitch.
Batting against a lefty pitcher can definitely throw you off if you don't see it often. Ball is always moving the opposite direction as expected!
I’m a lefty usually at first but really enjoy pitching. I can make a sweeping fade but that’s it. Need something to go inside on righty’s
Just remind pitchers to practice pitching BP as much as possible and to not get discouraged. It is slow pitch and good hitters can and will hit anything. I started pitching mens fastpitch softball , windmill. And I also was able to pitch behind my back .
I totally agree! We are big advocates of using BP as practice reps for not only batting but also defense. Make the best use of your time!
Question about the pitcher covering 2nd base on a force out....what if the ball gets hit to the pitcher while trying to get to 2nd base?

Maybe make a video, showing how to fix a baseball gold swing, to a level swing,
Great suggestion! We'll put it on our list!
7:12 What position does the doggo play?
He plays a great 1st Mascot!
Rover. Lol. My bad dad joke.
Absolutely perfect.
Thought that was you. Good seeing you
I had no idea you played! Glad you found the channel!
Im trying to learn how to throw the curve ball.and screw ball
great video, thanks

What kind of drills can we do to become better?

That glove looks huge!
It's not that big. 12.75 I think. Jamie is just short haha!
Any thoughts on the Weeknight Ace style of pitching?
I've seen his videos and I'm very intrigued. I seem to hear a lot of comments about that style being referred to as "church league spinners". It seems to be a derogatory term. I honestly don't know why. His style seems really effective.
Question for Jaime....how would you approach hitters in a league where the Arc max is 6ft. and batters start at 1-1 count?
What is the minimum arc for this league?
From Jaime :
Well regardless (of height limits) my answer would be:
Always strive to hit the ceiling
6ft could turn into 8ft depending on the ump
Mix up your pitches side to side and and front to back of the plate
Basically pitch like you normally would keeping the height limit in mind, then just adjust accordingly
Arc max 6 feet...minimum 3 feet
You planning on the screw ball soon?

Coaching special olympics slow pitch its coach pitch so hopefully this helps lol
Good luck to all the athletes! This sounds awesome!
@@LeagueNightSoftball Yes sir its super fun!
My league uses the debeer clincher ball. Does this change anything?
Only that is more forgiving on a pitcher as it's harder to hit out since it's softer.
Great video even better dog.
Guys switch lens to manual, this auto focus is almost unbearable to watch, thank you for the video tho!
My biggest thing at the beginning on the game is find the umpires ceiling and floor then abuse that.
Chuck doesn’t seem entertained with pitching. He wants to watch everyone hit bombs!!
Come on, Chuck! Defense wins championships!
Cameraman should have stood behind him so we could see the pitch.
Throw me anywhere inside im getting barrel on it 😂
If you are facing our boy Jamie on the mound, he probably knows that already. You'll never see an inside pitch again haha! Is inside your favorite pitch or just one that you hit well?
Walked 21 batters first game, video not helpful
Haha! We can only provide the info, we can't guarantee individual results.
Lol, you must stink at bowling, corn hole and anything that takes eye and hand coordination Jesus
Shit youd be walking in my league after we walked 4.... and we are D tier!
That in and out focus though 🤣🤬
We know, we know haha! I didn't get the focus locked on the camera and the fog was giving the auto focus fits. Good thing is we learn from our mistakes and I usually get the focus locked now!
no dogs on ball fields
That's not a dog, it's a Muppet.
nice dog

Nope, we would just blow up middle
Only see 4 man in coed leagues
@@ccarpenter2k In some competitive leagues you get warnings for going middle too much. I only play weeknight leagues but we never run 5 man infield.
😂😂😂😂😂it’s getting smashed
If the batter hits the pitcher with a line drive, is that out?
Only if the ball didn't hit the ground after lol. Some less competitive leagues have a halo rule where that would be an automatic out
