Honestly we just need another Brad Bird directed original Pixar film, but idk I doubt he'll go back to Pixar, maybe after he's done with his ongoing animation project @ Skydance
No, not in a world that has thrown the nucleus of a society (the traditional family) into the trash bin. That is why we can’t have enjoyable things anymore.
WALL-E is my favorite movie of all time. Words cannot describe how much I love this movie. The fantastic and gorgeous music by Thomas Newman, the beautiful animation, the amazing message of the story along with my favorite scene in fiction, that being when Captain B. Mcrea asks the computer to "define earth" was just perfect. I always will love WALL-E
Honestly, THIS is an accurate representation of Pixar’s Golden Era than David Lee Down Under’s. And so what if Pixar had one average film in their Golden Era with Cars, considering the following films afterwards with Ratatouille, WALL-E, Up and Toy Story 3, it barely did any damage to their critical and financial streak. If I were to give my own representation of the different eras Pixar has gone through, they’d go like this: Innovation Era: 1986 - 1995 (Mainly their short films and commercials before Toy Story) Golden Era: 1995 - 2010 (From Toy Story to Toy Story 3) Post-Golden Era: 2011 - 2019 (From Cars 2 to Toy Story 4) Experimental Era: 2020 - Present (I think that’s the best way to describe it with their current films like Soul, Luca, Turning Red and Elemental considering the different animation styles and directors directing; asides from Pixar veteran Pete Doctor directing Soul)
Dave Lee Down Under is a good UA-camr in my opinion, but he isn’t one of the best ones I’ve seen. But props to him for giving us updates on upcoming releases and such.
I agree with this way of describing the Pixar Eras. I'm enjoying the Experimental Era, I think people are very harsh on Pixar because they set the bar so high from the start, whereas Disney and Dreamworks have always had ups and downs and people aren't surprised if something bad is done, they just hope for the good the studio is capable of (even thought now Disney is in a complicated spot that people are being harsh with a reason and I would lie if I didn´t said that Wish will be a moment very important to the studio).
Same! It holds a special place in my heart too. Most people overlook this movie, but has gained more love through out the years. The conversation between Flik and dot about the rock, and then later again when dot uses it to encourage Flik, will always tug my heartstrings.
A Bug's life was one of, if not the first, movie I saw in theater. I was six years old in 1998 and I remember vividly the film froze halfway through the screening. My young eyes were really opened to a love of films after that.
Ratatouille is my all-time favorite Pixar movie, and as much as I want there to be a Ratatouille 2, I don't think Pixar should do it, given how they've done sequels like Incredibles 2 and Toy Story 4 which don't recapture the magic and charm of their predecessors, so in short, Ratatouille is so perfect that it doesn't need a sequel.
Well I honestly want WALL-E 2 but I do understand because it had a great ending I think Ratatouille and WALL-E should keep it into a single film instead of squeals because some of the original actors in Ratatouille passed away
I think the biggest thing, is that film is art... and good art requires pure dedication and passion. Elemental may not have been perfect, but it had an artist's soul attached to it. All of these studios have tried to commercialize, treating film like it's a commodity good, rather than an art form, and have consequently paid the price. There's a reason the "starving artist" exists... that passion and dedication is what makes the craft so good. Lose that, and art loses its soul.
Ah, it feels so good to remember how great Pixar was less than two short decades ago. Honestly, I worry that this was *too* good and it's simply impossible to match it. I hope I'm wrong, but only time will tell.
Unpopular opinion but Elemental, Luca and Turning Red are some of my favorite pixar movies. Maybe not the best on an objective level, but I personally was able to connect with them way more than any other of their films. I think these three films are very personal whereas a lot of the Golden Age Pixar movies aimed to be more universal stories, which is probably why some people think Elemental, Luca and Turning Ted are mid and others really love them.
Honestly, "best" is subjective, anyway. While Pixar and Disney have very different styles, I do feel like the recent Pixar films have been influenced by Disney, somehow. Perhaps that's why I may watch them someday.
thats the problem their golden movies were critically claimed because they appeal to everyone and have themes and messages that everyone can relate to and learn from. Their recent movies dont do that anymore and their not as tightly written or well structured and mature as their classics and thats not good
I completely disagree and say they fall flat compared to most movies from the golden age along with even Inside Out and Coco, but to each his own. The reason why The Golden Age movies were so much better than what we get now is because they can be things people can either relate to or at least understand. They spoke to pretty much everyone on every level, no matter the age, culture or ethnicity.
God i miss pixar's golden age. I just want a new movie that everyone could relate to and also being fun in the process. I guess watching vhs and dvds of the movies will do for now.
I’m glad I grew up in this era and had the chance to watch Wall-e, Up and Toy Story 3 on theaters. Pixar just isn’t the same anymore Pd: And Cars 1 isn’t “boring” Aldone
The best Pixar Golden Age movies for me is The Incredibles, Monster Inc, and Cars, hope Pixar fixed itself and manage to bring something new instead of sequel and sequel all over again
Great video! Something I would like to say is that despite their newer movies like Turning Red and Elemental being heartpieces by their directors, it's the golden age of Pixar that I feel myself relating to the most. The theme of wanting to protect someone in Monsters Inc and Finding Nemo, the theme of finding new friends in an unlikely place in Cars, the theme of family above all in Incredibles are ones I especially find myself entranced in. While I enjoyed these on their own when I was younger, I find myself appreciating these underlying themes as someone older. While something like Turning Red may be more specific and more relatable to its audience, it's really hard for someome outside of that bubble to appreciate it for the same reason. I do hope we can one day return to these universal stories anyone can appreciate in the near future.
My Top 5 PIXAR films Honorable Mentions: -Finding Nemo -Monsters Inc. -Ratatoulie -Soul 5. The Incredibles 4. UP 3. Inside Out 2. Cars (2006) (THAT'S RIGHT! COME AND GET ME HATERS!) #1. Toy Story (1995)
I'd place Finding Nemo in the top spot. I destroyed that DVD from watching it too much years ago. It felt like you were going on a great adventure with Marlin and Dory to rescue Nemo. Inside Out, Ratatouille, & The Incredibles are absolute gold, too. I liked the Ratatouille even MORE as I got older, in fact. The Incredibles is probably the most mature and adult movie that Pixar's ever done. It's not every day that they release a movie that covers topics such as the financial strain that can arise from job loss, the soul-sucking nature of certain jobs, and the prospect of an extramarital affair. Never mind Mr. Incredibles' electric torture scene and his fear of his family being killed off in a plane crash over his inability to see how special his family life was because he kept thinking about his past glory days as a superhero. If Brad Bird was trying to make an animated movie that kids could enjoy but wasn't necessarily targeted at kids, then he absolutely killed it with that one. Same with Ratatouille. Right on with Cars as well. I actually thought it was no worse than something like Monsters Inc or Up and loved it much better than A Bug's Life, which was okay but a step down from TS1. I also liked Cars better than WALL-E. Cars 1 was never Pixar's worst movie. Until Cars 2, A Bug's Life was their weakest movie. The "Cars = Weakest Pixar Movie" talk was the result of some people not being able to accept the (admittedly weird-ass) setting that it takes place in. Cars 2, however.... eh, alright. I'll give the haters that one. Definitely Pixar's first genuinely bad movie and a incoherent mess that makes the cardinal sin of making the fan-favorite goofy sidekick the protagonist. Cars 3 was much better, but they never topped part 1.
I think if I were to make tier list of Pixar's cry worthy moments on personal preference and which ones literally make me ugly cry. Sullivan saying goodbye to Boo in Monster's Inc? That's like God tier level of waterworks. Not just because of the vocal sadness and heartbreak in John Goodman's performance as he is saying farewell, in the moment, we know the film ends on a happy ending, but for a brief moment its like a father parting ways with a child. The other moments that can compete with that is Jessie's origin song and Miguel singing Remember me to coco.

Cause I loved Soul and though Luca and Turning Red were pretty solid, but then Lightyear and Elemental happened and then Toy Story 5 was announced, and Inside Out 2 is looking just whatever. So yeah. Not very exciting for the future of Pixar, literally the only film that looked kinda interesting (Elio) was pushed back a year. 😂
The golden age of Pixar was until 2009. It went downhill in 2010 and the last decade especially made sequels, or a prequel in the case of Monsters University. Pixar may soon cease to exist. It's why I am now more in DreamWorks to be in. Finding Nemo is still one of my favorite movies. I don't know why it took so long to create a sequel to the Incredibles, as I think that one should not have taken so long. In the 2000s decade original stories were made for Pixar, making that a good time for Pixar.

2:13 no, actually. I don't. Their motivations were not understandable on any level. They were just downright flat idiots! They tried to kill Woody just out of unjustified spite torwards him
I understand where you are coming from, but I have to disagree. On the one hand, the toys actually loved Woody for a long time, but were oblivious to how arrogant Woody was about being Andy's favorite toy which made Mr. Potato Head jealous of him. But when Buzz arrives in Andy's room, he immediately takes all the spotlight without being aware of it due to believing he is a true space ranger, making Woody jealous of Buzz. Eventually, Woody took his jealousy way too far when he pushed Buzz out the window, so he definitely deserved his comeuppance from the other toys for that which makes their motivations 100% reasonable. However, due to Buzz and Woody's time at Sid's house, Woody learned to be more respectful of Buzz and the other toys by letting go of his pride and jealousy while Buzz learned that he is truly a toy and the real value behind being himself, leading to both toys standing up to Sid to end his toy abuse and catch up to Andy. And in the process, all of Andy's toys learn that Woody and Buzz were together all along and begin helping them out after realizing how mean and rude they were (yes, including Potato Head) to Woody. Therefore, neither side was either 100% right or wrong.
The Incredibles and Ratiioullie were one of my favorite Pixar movies when I was young, can’t they make more films like these for Pixar.
