Also, sooooo many movies about space have sound effects OUTSIDE the spaceship/space station! The director of "Interstellar" understood science. There is no sound when the explosion occurs because they are in space. Space by definition is a vacuum so you won't hear anything. I haven't seen this much attention to detail since "2001".

03:34 What is so captivating about this particular scene is how Nolan went above and beyond being physically accurate for the concept as well as for the viewer.

The movie isn't too old, but what's really important is that Nolan prefers using practical effects over computer effects whenever he can. He only adds CGI as a last resort, and even then, only to enhance the practical effects. Unlike many modern movies that rely too much on CGI, Nolan's approach helps keep things looking more realistic. Sometimes in those other movies, the CGI is rushed, and it ends up making things look fake.

Incredible sequence. When Mann blew the airlock and the Ranger crashed into the Endurance's module. it changed the entire center of gravity of the Endurance. It isn't easily visible in most scenes, but Endurance wasn't in a simple spin.. It was *precessing,* spiraling around a changing point like a hole in a gear inside of a Spirograph ring. The Lander didn't just have to match the Endurance's spin but it had to match a *spiral* trajectory - one which was changing in real time as Endurance continued to shed debris and her CG continued changing. Without the help of TARS Cooper could never have done it. That he did it WITH TARS was a pure, undiluted GOAT manuver. Even the AI didn't think it could be done. "It's not possible!"
":No. It's *necessary."* Bad. Ass. And so was the soundtrack. That final note on the church organ was at such a volume *the entire building was audibly shaking.* Just an astounding scene.

I've seen this scene on IMAX and.....literally one of the biggest big screen scene of my life. The music, the timing, the actors, the visual effects....everything was perfect. I didn't love all the plot and some things about the movie. But this scene was so perfect that made the movie one of my favourites.

I recently went to an orchestral evening that centred on the film scores of Williams & Zimmer.
Very enjoyable evening with some great playing but when they played this piece of music I was disappointed. It was a piece I was deeply looking forward to but it didn’t have the volume or the breadth that the original score has.
Zimmer & Nolan really hit a peak with this one.

To think that Dr. Mann was unable to manually dock with the Endurance while it was stationary, and moments later Cooper and TARS were able to do it while it was spinning at 68 rotations per minute and plummeting toward the planet with no heat shield to protect it from incineration. Absolutely heroic feat.

I really loved the movie Interstellar before, and then I got a life accident that changed my mental life. after a lot of pain and a huge sum of thoughts to end my life years ago. Now this scene is the best scene in movie history for me because it is like a part of my life why I suffered because of a stupid person mistake, a moment of silence, thoughts and then go to action and save their life and the life of human beings for this particular action.
Thank you Christopher Nolar and to all great directors for giving our life a meaning and some air to breathe.

Great scene. Loved the details from the special effects, to the acting, to the soundtrack. I loved in this scene at 4:49 with Dr. Man yells "retro thrusters!" there is shot outside of the damaged station in this great shadowing and the star passes through the gaps like a blink and then almost sunrises in the shot. Mesmerizing

About a month ago I bought the Hamilton "Murph" watch in the limited edition Tesseract watch case. I had bought the Hamilton watch that Cooper showed when he talked to Murph before leaving Earth, soon after I saw this in the theater. Both watches are now housed in the Tesseract box case. I spent about $2,500 for this collection. Because...this...movie...changed me.
