A Theoretical Costume Design of Intimate Apparel by Lynn Nottage

In this project, I will be presenting a theoretical costume design for the play Intimate Apparel by Lynn Nottage. This project will challenge me to expand my costume design skills in the time of Covid-19. I will be using this opportunity to build up my portfolio for preparation of graduate school and the professional world post graduation. I specifically chose this play because it explores the themes of racism, classism, and even shows LGBTQ relationships all in the early 1900s. I will be researching these themes and presenting them through the designs of the costumes. My goals for this project are to learn about the African American community of this time and to attempt to show not only the struggle but the perseverance of the community through the characters' clothing. I will also be pushing my artistic boundaries by designing this project all digitally through ProCreate.
