Love it! I used to take those MNCRR trains into the City for 10 years. Where you taped was a perilous hike along the river's edge! I remember the smell of aviation exhaust from the turbos as they passed. Those FL9 diesels were some of the last ones built for the New Haven RR.
Good video. Rode on the TurboTrains on occasion from Albany to NYC. Great ride when they worked. If they had to run those FL9's in sets for relatively short MetroNorth trains, they must've been pretty well worn out.
Those beautiful cab units - attired, at last, in a paint scheme worthy of their design. Before, all I'd seen of the FL9s were when they had the hideous Circus Train garb of Amtrak (phase lll), or the asymmetrical New Haven paint scheme. I rode a turbo in June, 1984 out of NYC Grand Central Terminal, up to Albany. They'd refurbished Grand Central and it looked magnificent.
Love seeing those old F- units and Turbo's. Was never real crazy about them running the F-units backwords, but I understand it was more efficient for the RR. Then to have to run around there train, or turn around on a wye. None the less, Great footage!
Hey Bob, when I first started railfanning the Hudson Line in 1985, it was before the push pull equipment showed up and every train had FL9s on the point. They were pulling the old stainless steel fluted streamlined coaches. It sucked when the new cars arrived. That was sometime in 1986 or very early '87.

Great video 👍 I miss the FL9 locomotive. Regret that I didn't get to see the turbos in action.
Sure was unique motive power along the Hudson at that time.

Do you have any nyc subway train actions from the 1990s?
Wish they would bring back the turbo trains
I wish they would bring back F units, or the body style.
Does anyone know if the Turboliners are still in storage, or were they all scrapped?
There is at least one still around, this is from two years ago...ua-cam.com/video/ElJjeW0ncuk/v-deo.html
But then again, that was two years ago , a train can get scrapped in two years.
@@1990sRailfan 😭 thanks
