This location is approximately one mile (RR North) of Central Bridge, NY, on the former D&H, This is where the tracks ascend out of the Schoharie Valley. I visited this location two consecutive Sundays. The first Sunday, July 24, was dead. After the first early morning Southbound, I waited into the afternoon with no results. It was a great time to work on a suntan during those long boring hours...

Hey Donnie! If I remember correctly, DABU would sometimes run over the Tier and sometimes up the River Line. I'm not sure what determined which side they would run it. I've seen DABU on the tier as late as 1994-1995.

Nice video! Would've been cool if the RDCs stuck around. I think Amtrak and VIA could expand into more rural areas with an upgraded railcar of some kind. I also wanted to ask if I could get permission to use some of your video clips in my own projects? Currently I'm working on a video about the RDC's history and your RDC and SPV-2000 clips would come in handy. Credit would be provided of course.

My dad very well could've been piloting one of these as he was an engineer out of Alb-Ren from 1986-2013 and he worked this route as much as possible throughout the '90s (no more being on the spare board, no more overnighters to Cleveland! Could actually be home to see the family at reasonable hours!). He snuck us up into the cab so many times (got to see RTLs, FL-9s, F40s) and it was always mindblowing to my little kid brain.... ride in the front of these big loud impressive vehicles AND we get to explore NYC for the day?? Such good memories.

Reminds me of the one time I saw an overrun at Mamaroneck, probably 13 years ago - the noise and smoke as the engineer braked hard was ... something, and this was when the MAS between Harrison and New Rochelle was still 90MPH! They too had to reverse, it was a sight to see!

I remember one time leaving GCT and the FL9s were supposed to use the third rail. Guess it wasn't working. They used the diesel engine and the AC was pulling in all the blue black exhaust into the car. I couldn't see to the other end of the car. I thought I was going to die that night! We finally cleared the Park Avenue tunnel and slowly the exhaust was dissipated. I had my coat over my nose and mouth tightly. Man, I love trains but after that night...

Those beautiful cab units - attired, at last, in a paint scheme worthy of their design. Before, all I'd seen of the FL9s were when they had the hideous Circus Train garb of Amtrak (phase lll), or the asymmetrical New Haven paint scheme. I rode a turbo in June, 1984 out of NYC Grand Central Terminal, up to Albany. They'd refurbished Grand Central and it looked magnificent.
