    The sad part, in relatives terms, that's the most polite you'll get somebody who's not supportive of things of that nature.
    They didn't shame or threaten, just kept to themselves.

      I think that's how we should be in general if we don't agree with something. Like, if you don't like something, just don't watch it! Much better than forcing others to agree with you. (This goes for literally anything btw)

    I love Lindsay shaw as an actress, I'm glad she did such a controversial role at the time with LBGTQ not fully being as accepted as today. I love the podcast and the topics you guys touch on

      It’s still not fully accepted today! I mean there are still tons of people who aren’t okay with LGBTQ+ people and if the current political climate and amount of anti-LGBTQ+ laws that are trying to be passed here in the USA are anything to go by it’s not going away any time soon….

    With her role and relationship with Emily I just knew I was a lesbian and felt represented, like there was a part of me that didn’t recognize how I felt and what i liked until I saw this show and her relationship with Emily. 😍😭

    Pretty crazy, and she wasn't even a "real" lesbian, it was just a role. Some of our families treat us like that everyday.

    PLL was the first show I saw with lesbian rep, I was like 14-15 and paily helped me a lot with accepting myself when I was trying to push my feelings away.

    me resulta increíble lo cruel que puede llegar a ser un familiar cuando le comentas ese tipo de temas, incluso la respuesta más cordial la llegan a decir con un nivel de agresividad casi palpable

      LGBTQ acceptance is pretty much splitting the church in two right now. It’s probably the great theological controversy of our time, akin to the reformation.

    I can see both sides I lean towards the parents side more. Respect everyone and their choices just don’t include me. It’s a very respectful approach nothing wrong with that.

    • @alexandraisabelle6588
      @alexandraisabelle6588 Рік тому +16

      That's exactly like saying "nothing wrong with people of colour but keep them away from me." It's not a choice, sexuality nor colour of skin and we're done being ashamed of it or hiding it. That reaction is not okay. Period.

      It’s not a side, to have a gay character. If you see the the other side what exactly are you missing then? Like that gay people have always existed and that they should be treated as normal folks and be represented as part of our culture. Sure it can take some getting used to, we all have the ideas impressed upon us in youth in our head somewhere. But unless you are reaching for the bad out of context religious argument that always gets tossed around there’s no reason to exclude gay or trans characters from our media (they can still be done poorly but actually seeing them as opposed to never seeing them doesn’t count as forced).
      It’s so weird to have that be caught up in the culture war to just hate it because they assume others are forcing them to like it so it must be bad and degenerate. It’s not respectful. It’s less cruel than others but that’s a low bar.

      @@alexandraisabelle6588 Not the same. You can't stop being black, you can stop being in a gay relationship. You also can't stop being a pedophile, yet we don't have to support someone engaging in that behavior. So I can accept the fact that you are attracted to same sex people, but also not want to support the actual behavior.

    There is nothing wrong with her family's response. We are called to uphold Truth, including morality, in accordance with our love for one another. Love doesn't entail embracing bad behavior, but rather, guiding one another in virtue.

      Is it bad behavior to strive for a better future by playing a fictional character with events that never happened? You have a strange prejudice toward a fictional subject. I'm guessing similar experiences happened where you just didn't care about something and chose not to support a loved one. Sounds like bad behavior to me.
