China has a 10 day week. But uses 7 day week to be in tune with the rest of the world.
The globalisation already standardised the 7 day week in most parts of the world. Historically, the weeks are synchronised with local trade. People usually go to local market once every certain number of days, and this becomes the cycle of people’s life, which is effectively the week for these people. For example, Chinese divides each month into 3 segments called 旬Xun (upper, middle and lower Xuns), each lasting 10 days. One can see that the Chinese division is actually much more natural because it is coherent with the natural cycle. A traditional Chinese week can be 10 days or 5 days (if more frequent trades are needed). No Jesus is needed, especially in that part of the world. I think this guy needs to become an atheist. 😂

This guy actually wanted to debate me on his channel pertaining to this subject. I told him it was a complete waste of my time because if the "year of our lord" argument or this "seven day week" argument was evidence for the existence of his god then the common use of names for our days of the week (all of which are uttered far more than the name of Jesus) are evidence for the existence of other gods, Sunday and Monday are the Sun and Moon gods respectively, Tue. is representative of the Scandinavian war god Tu, Wed., Odin's day, Thurs., Thor's day, Fri. is Frigg or Freyja's day (there is some contention about whether or not these two goddesses are one and the same), and Sat. is the god Saturn's day. I asked him if he remains consistent with his argumentation does he acknowledge the existence of these other gods and I haven't heard from him since.
Edit: Burma has an 8 day week.

In 321 CE, Emperor Constantine officially decreed a seven-day week in the Roman Empire, including making Sunday a public holiday. The seven-day week originates from the calendar of the Babylonians, which in turn is based on a Sumerian calendar dated to 21st-century BCE. The days of the week are named (in English) after the sun, the moon and 5 different pagan gods - Tyw, Woden, Thor, Frey and Saturn.

For an argument to be sound the conclusion must follow from the premises. Even if one were to grant premise 1 that the bible explicitly stated that Jesus prophesied that every nation would adopt a seven day week, and premise 2 that every nation has done so, how would that imply the conclusion that Jesus exists and is divine, or that he caused every nation to adopt the same calendar? There are plenty of practical reasons for people to use the same calendar that have nothing to do with "divine sovereignty". It's an example of the Affirming the Consequent fallacy.

  • @hobbes305
    @hobbes305 6 місяців тому

Not only does a seven day week substantially predate the advent of Judaism and Christianity, the commonality of the seven day week is readily explained by several easily demonstrable astronomical facts. The first is that the quarters of the moon are just fractionally longer than seven days in length (7.38 days on average) and the lunar calendar (A lunar month averages about 29.5 days) was independently developed and was commonly utilized by diverse societies across the ancient globe. In the times before written calendars and mechanical timepieces, marking time according to the phases of the moon was an obvious and easily accomplished solution, even for the most illiterate and technically unsophisticated peoples. The second reason was the perceived supernatural significance of the number seven by those ancients. This was largely due to the fact that there are seven heavenly bodies (aka, The Seven Wanderers :The Sun, the Moon, Venus, Jupiter, Mars, Mercury and Saturn ) which were visible in the sky and that could be seen to predictably traverse the apparently fixed and unmoving stellar background. In many cultures the days of the week were often named after these seven celestial wanderers. The fact that these easily observable astronomical phenomena became the basis of numerous global calendars is not only unremarkable, it is completely to be expected.

God gave the Israelites the Sabbath which would occur on the 7th day, not every 7 days as people argue. God said you shall work for 6 days and rest on the 7th. Considering that some months have 29 days and other 30 days, the 1st day starts on New Moon Day, is a consecutive repeating 7 day week until the end of the monthly cycle when the moon goes dark and you wait to see the crescent in the sky which will mean that once again it is the 1st day. Neither God or Jesus gave us a consecutive all the time 7 day week. That practice was instituted by Constantine and the Roman Catholic church. Julius Ceaser had an 8 day weekly calendar which was in practice during Jesus' life. Jesus kept the Calendar that God instituted - what we call the Luni Solar Calendar which is as accurate as our modern day calculators. Paradigms that have been taught us all of our lives are hard to release. Finding truth is easy if we are willing to release those paradigms. The truth is right in front of us in the sky and and yet we don't see it, because we have been taught incorrectly. Isaiah 63 is accurate when it states "from New Moon to New Moon" using the Luni-solar calendar that God gave His people.

The verse from Isaiah 66 he cites says “at each new moon and every sabbath”. This means not only that people will observe the 7-day week, and not only the same weekly sabbath as the Jews observed in the days of long Hezekiah in the 7th century BCE, but also that they will observe lunar months starting with each new moon. Currently only Orthodox Jews observe this calendar, and the state of Israel recognizes this Jewish calendar as the state calendar, but even most of the population of Israel doesn’t go by the Jewish calendar for planning secular events. The entire western world observed the Gregorian calendar, the concept for which was devised by Julius Caesar and modified by Gregory the Great centuries after Jesus died. So Jesus’ sovereignty is not at work in the calendrical observances of any nation of the world. At least not according to Isaiah.

    NO NOT TRUE
We use a 7 day week because it is the best divisor with the length of the year
The Chinese used a 7 day week long before the Christians stole it
365.25 (approx length of year divided by 7 equals 52 weeks and 1.25 days.
Try any other integer between 5 and 10 and you get a larger remainder.

Le Doosh has been trying this argument for years. The seven day cycle predates Christianity by over 2000 years. It’s acknowledged in the decree of King Sargon of the Akkadian Empire. They used seven days, because there were seven celestial bodies (the sun, moon and five planets) that were visible without the use of a telescope (they didn’t exist yet).
Second, the Bible is like if Wikipedia was only allowed to be edited by the same group benefiting from it for hundreds of years. Of course it’s going to make claims that are convenient to Christian faith.

It's easy to wreck his argument. I think y'all missed the mark by focusing on the country/nation argument.
"If Jesus can demonstrate universal sovereignty, that will make him God."
I do not grant this premise. Universal sovereignty would just demonstrate that he was King of the Earth. It would not demonstrate that he was the creator and sustainer and final underwriter.
"Jesus demonstrated universal sovereignty by predicting the universal adoption of the seven-day week."
I do not grant that planetary adoption of the seven-day week demonstrates Jesus' sovereignty. Trivially, in English the names of the days of the week have Roman and Norse pagan roots. In French the names all have Roman pagan roots. And Jesus is not sovereign anywhere. Those are just two predominantly Christian nations. I don't know the names of the days in regions where other religions dominate; I'm sure they're not European or Christian. The fact that Christianity is not the predominant religion everywhere wrecks this premise. Even if Christianity had burned at the stake all non-believers, that would not demonstrate Jesus' divinity.
But he did say "Normative," so I guess he wins. Normative just means "thou shalt." Since we *must* call one of the days of the week the Sabbath, God. Right?

He also mentions Isaiah 6:23. There is no Isaiah 6:23. Anyone can make a mistake. He also called into the Atheist Experience a week later as Le Cook, and made the same claims.

To find this this remotely interesting I would need some kinda prove the writers of the Bible weren’t just using a/the popular form of that is the 7 day week. Prove it is a biblical original.
Even if that were the case, it seems to just prove the popularity of the concept or the religion being popular with those in power.
No actual god is required for us to adopt shared standards, the meter nor the mile are based on the Bible, neither are measures of temperature, mass, electricity, mols nor light brightness.
Even for time not much is based on the Bible, the polytheistic Roman’s changed the amount of months in a year. And the names of the days of the week are based on pagan deists rather than having biblical inspiration.

I'm pretty sure he's the same guy who's had his arguments debunked and shown to be fallacious on multiple call-in shows. Yet for some reason he can't seem to comprehend why everyone else doesn't fall for his misinformation and deeply flawed reasoning. I suspect that this 7-day week argument is one that he previously fell for and so now he can't bring himself to admit that he fell for such a silly argument, so now he keeps trying to save his own ego by hoping he can find someone else gullible enough to fall for it too.
