If they did, the majority of the problems we see on our expressways, like people, cattle, busstops, trucks parked on highways, all could have been avoided with simple design changes. In India, around 10000 kms of railway needs an average of 75000 emplyees, where as in the US, the same amount of the railway is managed and mainted by around 150-200 employees

We all know our tracks are not ready even for 160. Gov need to first fix our tracks. By right we should be laying all new tracks that is future ready of 220. Anything more than 220 would need concrete bed due to oscillation at high speed of train. the current tracks are just not ready for anything more than 160. even VB 2 is capable of 200 but we aint making new tracks to 180 but limiting to 160 by laying R260 tracks. only 1200 to 2000km of Indian tracks are now 160 speed ready. So if this tender comes true, we would be having VB 3 biting dust in sheds. so its better we simply cancel it for now. so get the root cause correct in your narrative. lets not blame babus for price rejection but its more about if we are VB 3 ready. R260 rails can very well support 350 kmph speed. There are many other factors behind speed limitations like curves, gradients, trespassers, terrain etc.
The LHB coaches are very poor quality. I have traveled in Rajdhani and other trains in AC First and I was disgusted with the fabrication and finishing. Everything looks so cheap and shoddy. Not only have they canceled Alstom contract, the bullet train babus are not able to acquire original train sets from Japan. Instead they are thinking of using a lower speed trainset.

Modi Government did decently in the first 7-8 years for the Indian Railways. But the past 2 years have been really bad. They seem to have become completely aimless. Canceling that tender for aluminium trainsets is a huge setback for the growth of IR and the manufacturing sector of India. They haven't even allocated a lot of funds for installing Kavach on all mainlines in this year's budget. Plus, the incredibly stupid decision to manufacture 10,000 more non AC coaches just as a knee jerk reaction to the equally stupid criticism from the opposition has been a major letdown. Instead of reducing the fare of 3AC Economy coaches (and removing the subsidies of 1AC and 2AC coaches) so that the clientele of current non ac coaches could afford AC coaches, they have instead doubled down and chosen a more primitive approach which will cost the nation even more. Still, they are better than Congress and the other jokers, which is really sad. This is apparently what our best political party at the moment (for infrastructure) comes up with, imagine how much worse the others are (you dont have to if you have lived through the 2004 to 2014 era or the licence raj era).
We have seen so many unreserved & ticketless travellers entering AC coaches too, causing inconvenience to the passengers. Nowadays, Sleepers are as good as unreserved.
