  • Here is some 360 degree footage for you to play with on the Frenchmans track. Like the Old Tele track yesterday this is a test to see if you like the option and for me to learn how to edit this stuff into a narrative style video

    Gavin, I watch your video's either on my TV or the MacBook. Using the latter I really enjoy the scope the 360 degrees offers especially when the Cruiser is stationary and you have time to 'look around'. I think it would be more valuable if the camera was mounted on the roof rack as you then would have a better all-round view. I am not sure though if that would alter the forward viewing experience being higher up. The quality of the video was perfect and thus no issue for me. I think having the option of the 360 degrees is fantastic to have in my opinion and I feel it provides for a greater immersive feeling into the landscape. Great video Gavin.

    Love the videos a new interesting way to see the tracks. It worked on two of my three Samsung TVs. I can only assume the older model cannot handle the new technical specs of the 360 imagery. It may catch a few viewers out.

    My 10 cents, great drive, the 360 has its place, for the most part of this video you would be looking forward etc, so i didnt feel the need to pan. Downside is the resolution is low compared to a 1080p/4k gopro or similar.

    • @GavinGillett

      Thanks man, really appreciate your feedback. On the resolution, UA-cams compression for 360 kills the quality. The raw version that gets uploaded to UA-cam can be zoomed in considerably before you get pixelation. They murder the video to make it as small as possible hahah

    I use a 360 a little bit for my video's but only to reframe after the fact. It is perfect for that as can get some really cool shots that would be difficult to get by yourself.

    Absolutely loved it.
    My suggestions.
    1. I didn't use the 360 and I don't think it's necessary.
    2. Why not release 2 videos of your trips. One edited with commentary, other angles etc and one with raw footage such as this video. I for one would watch every video of these unedited front shot videos.
    Great work mate.

    After upping the UA-cam settings to 1440s or higher, the quality was much better. It was hard to watch without your usual brilliant commentary so I had no idea where you were. 360 degree certainly has its place, but I'm not sure it suits 4WD track driving for hours on end. I think that most content creators are still experimenting with 360 degrees with varying success. It's handy when on a selfie pole so you don't then see the pole but even then it can become disjointed. Maybe try it when standing in a special spot and talking to us so that we can see everything you see, if you know what I mean? Keep it up though mate, if its anything like your drone flying, the skills will be quickly learned. Cheers mate.

      I do, the challenge is you cant put this footage into a normal narrative style video yet. Technology limitations, so you either make the whole thing in 360 or not at this stage .... looks like its to soon for this given the feedback i;m getting so far

    • @4wdadventureoz
      @4wdadventureoz 3 роки тому +1

      @@GavinGillett Is that due to the type of camera? If you look at the opening credits of @Expedition Drenched you can see how they've used the 360 degree camera with audio, but it may be a different set up to yours.

    • @GavinGillett
      @GavinGillett  3 роки тому +1

      @@4wdadventureoz Yep, so there are several ways to use it. You can pull the section you want from the camera and make a normal 2d narrative or you can keep the freedom of funcionality intact so the user can still look anywhere. Still a long way to go before i've leant how to edit this, I have been getting help from aguy on Fiverr because im very time poor

    Hi Gavin, after reading the comments on this clip, I changed my YT settings to 1440 & 2160 and it's clear as!!! Thanks MJVG78, Glenn Marshall and Chris Turner. So I had another (4th) look at the OTL clip and BRILLIANT! No more blur/out of focus. Mate I'm hooked. 360 is the GO.
    Thank you so much for your investment of time and money to bring us these two iconic tracks. Looking forward to many more now. You've probably started a movement, won't be long and all the YTrs will be 360ing. Thank you again. You Legend!!

    playing it through the UA-cam app on my 55 inch tv at 1440p is clear enough my speed won't allow higher res unless i press pause and come back later. This is almost as good as being in the passenger seat. Have you thought about mounting it on the roof to get full 360 view? I know its not the safest spot

    I presume you will tell us what this was all about, but if it didn’t have your name on it, I would have turned it off. Mostly blurry vision and boring as hell, just not up to your usual high quality video. Let’s know what’s happening.

    • @GavinGillett
      @GavinGillett  3 роки тому

      I think the bluryness might be your internet connection. These are pretty demanding 5k videos. The only purpose of these is to test UA-cam, to test if people can figure out the moving of the camera and to test the number of people interested or able to view the content because of the demanding nature of the resolution. So far it's not looking good as many people dont have the connection to view the video in all its 5k glory

    • @GavinGillett
      @GavinGillett  3 роки тому

      All good Terry, which part was irritable? The single perspective or the ability/need to look around yourself. I'm thinking 360 footage might be a no-go for a bit longer .... its not turning out as i hoped and many people dont have the connection to see it in full resolution

    • @terryoleary5424
      @terryoleary5424 3 роки тому +1

      @@GavinGillett that’s probably what it is , I don’t have the right resolution to appreciate it. But on top of that ide prefer to see your perspective and your thoughts on the track and surrounds. E.g I recently watched two seperate you tube videos on Dirk hartog island, both you tubers do good work but completely different. And for this one really worked for me and one didn’t.
