Absolutely love the effort you put into these videos. You definitely deserve to blow up within the plant community even more. absolutely my favorite channel I’ve learned so much from you!!!
I agree with everything in this video if you aren’t loving soil anymore and you are an anthurium lover I highly highly recommend lechuza pon and lechuza planters bc my life has been amazing since not having to water my plants every 3 days or actually not even having to worry about them has been very nice!
Thank you so much. I love your content. You are my go to for anything anthuriums. You should feel so proud at what a great resource you are for our houseplant community. Really, thank you, thank you, thank you and job well done!!!
For the lechuza pots without the removable insert, you can get a siphon pump and feed it through the water meter section of the planter and pump out all the water in the reservoir. That way you can flush your pots ☺ and the siphon pumps are pretty cheap. Hope this helps x
I also love that i dont have fungus nats anymore and less pests, less dirt and less dust on the leaves. I completely agree with your video - i love it :) thanks for a positiv video on that subject :)
Thanks for all of this information. I just started using leca with one orchid. Scared of using anything but soil made up for the plants' requirements. You are very brave to try this alternative and it's working. Looking out for the update. 💚💚
Loveeee the detailed video. Thank you ❤ In uk I use liquid gold leaf with soil ninja’s Semi Hydro (similar to pon). It’s been working great and my plants have been loving it.
I've been using it for hoya, begonia and philodendron. All seem to like it. The only plant that died on me was an alocasia. When the fertilizer expired on the substrate (6 months), I just used my hydroponic solution for LECA. So far, no issues. Thanks for sharing your experience.
thank you for working through all the technical issues and waiting to do this vid until you felt comfortable with pon! super helpful video! I've been a leca girl with all my house, but I find that top of the leca stays soooo dry compared to the bottom of each pot.. I might be giving lechuza a try!
Ohhh I’m so excited about this video!! I’m looking to do some side by side comparison of Lechuza and homemade pon. Always interested to hear others experiences with pon
All my anthuriums LOVE pon but I have noticed with my anthuriums when I didn’t use a lechuza pot they stayed too wet with a reservoir unless I put a layer of leca down on the bottom first so that was a learning curve but I got it now but now all my anthuriums are in lechuza planters I just have my less loved plants in different set ups 😂😂💯
Hi Ella, just wanted to say that I hope all is well with you & to let you know many people think about you & look for new videos 🥰 I'm always looking as I'm new to Anturiums, Monstera & Philos (needless to say I've fell in love with all & am learning as I go so we need you) ! ❤
If you have a window, maybe consider a portable a/c unit that can vent out the window to cool the room on really hot days. Just be sure to put it where it won’t blow directly on the plants of course. Might even find a a good used one on FB marketplace or something. Best wishes 🌱💕
I absolutely love you, your collection and all the info you give to everyone. Not just plants, but pots EVERYTHING. Super knowledgeable. Do you sell your plants? Where can I buy them? Etsy? Thanks.
Ela ... thank you for sharing your passion with us ... I truly love this channel ... Elvira is so gorgeous... so do you use pon for many / all of your plants ... are there certain genus that do better in pon than others ?
Hello. First of all, I love how informative your videos are. You helped bring my plant game up :) Just wondering if you use self watering wicks on all plants in pon? Also, the water in my city contains calcium & mag (hardiness level is hard), so I'm wondering if I should still get CAL-MAG? Lastly, please let us know how you recycle your pon (what you do when you re-use it to pot a new plant). Thank you so much!
I also am curious. Especially about the wick question. I recently repotted a few plants into pon in self-watering pots with wicks, and I'm nervous they'll get root rot. 😬
How do you know when to water your plant if not in a self watering pot. I use Pon but only in self watering pots. I use a moisture meter in my soil in my plants. I would like to switch a lot of my plants to pon, but not sure about that
Just think of it as a very airy soil. For my smaller pots I water about once a week. For larger pots I wait about two weeks. You can usually tell by the weight and if the top stones look dry.
Hello😊Thank you so much good useful information 🙏I have question, can I put like other plants those with flowers in pin also? For orchids I ordered pots already 😊Thank you.
They honestly restock so random and it can be long periods in between. Definitely keep an eye on your email alerts. They usually sell out within the first 30 minutes 😪
I’m hoping their supply is low because of covid and that production will eventually increase. It’s honestly been a fight waiting for this pon to restock 😅
Thank you so much for this super helpful video! One quick question-when you are watering from the top without reservoir, how can you tell when it’s time to water again? I heard the normal moisture meters don’t really work. Thanks!
I just wanted to said I just found your channel and I really like it! So much useful information, thank you so much to all the effort you put in to it😊 I’m just curious what are those red and white tags hanging from your leaves on this video?
Hello, thank you for the wonderful content! I see you have some of your exotics just sitting out. I live in a dry climate. Can you recommend philodendrons or anthuriums for 40-50% humidity? Or is it even possible to do? I heard phil gloriosum is pretty hardy that way?
I honestly can’t stand the smell of neem so I don’t use it 😂 I find dr. Bronners peppermint castille soap has the same suffocating effect on bugs as neem. I also add some rubbing alcohol in for good measure. If you do use neem I recommend using it when after the sun goes down and when temps are low. You risk burning your plants with high heat and high light. Also, make sure to water your plants before using it so you don’t risk them absorbing too much and damaging their leaves.
@@ThePlantsMeow The reason I like the idea of neem is because it can be used as a systemic pesticide. Do you have any idea for what might work in an inorganic substrate specifically pon?
Honestly I don’t think you can actually have a systemic in pon because of how porous the substrate is. Systemic like Bonide granules would just wash right out. Of course it still might work because it could fall into the cracks of the rocks but I would recommend you use it more often. I have honestly started using beneficial mites as a preventative. You don’t even notice them because of how tiny they are and they have ate all my spider mites 😂👏🏼
How can you tell when to add the reservoir? And how much bigger of a pot should i use compared to the plant? And do you have any other pots your recommend, as Lechuza pots are really really expensive in Canada or just unavailable?
Hi😊 I actually transfered 3 plants from soil to Pon today but because I watched a video on UA-cam with somebody who said just to give a reservoir right after repot but now you said not to do it. Please if you see this: Should I remove the reservoir from my Monstera Albo, Aglaonema and Monstera Adansonii??🙏🏼🤓 I watered them with nutrient water and gave them the reservoir but now I don’t know if I should remove it. Please help💚
That’s an awesome video! Curious if pons is a pest free medium like fungus gnats, spider mites and thrips? I’m interested to change a lil by lil my soilless medium to pons using a self watering pots. What’s your insight? TIA 👍🌱😉😉
You mention that some are okay wet and some seem to need more dryness. Have you noticed any common denominator for which prefer wetness or dryness? Like elevation or subgenus or something like that? Also, Elvira is beautiful, but I have to ask... “how’s your head?” (God I hope that’s safe for UA-cam - My bf Bryan loves Elvira and I’m now a fan too🥰).
“I haven’t had any complaints yet” 😁 I haven’t looked into their elevations yet but I’ve just been going by plant and how they respond. Kind of like how P. El Choco red and P. Luxurians are more thirsty than others philos. I have decided to just keep my door open and see how the plants respond. Maybe none will protest to the reservoir after that. Yesterday evening that room was 86F 😅
@@ThePlantsMeow I am a little confused and would love to learn. I would think that the higher temps would cause more water evaporation and thus solve the "too much water in the leaves problem" please if you don't mind, can you explain why it is the opposite? I have a anthurium that seems to be having this problem with its newest leaf. It is in a self watering pot in a chunky mix. Thanks!
I often wonder how different this is from bonsai mix. I know it contains zeolite (probably spelling that wrong) & all I know about that is that it’s often used to remove odors 🤷🏻♀️
Zeolite helps the mix maintain its ideal PH balance but I would say you could absolutely use the bonsai mix. The only drawback is the bonsai mix’s I’ve seen are actually more expensive and they use Akadama instead of pumice, which will break down in time.
Thank you for the video. I just moved some new plants to pon. I'm still struggling in figuring it out. Just realised the date on this, hopefully you'll have sussed all this out now. I would love to hear how it went. Wouldn't have thought terracotta would be the way to go with this so would be really interested to hear how you did. 😊
Also, could u explain in more detail about this Reservoir verses a pot with a material cord that hangs out, I'm not understanding as yet, I'm still a newbie
I purchased a 14” Lechuza pot, thinking it would work for a large plant, but it appears it is meant for an 8-10”. I have a Bird of Paradise that is currently in a 12” pot. Will that work in a 14” Lechuza or is it really only good for 8-10”?
It holds more moisture than you would think. I was using airy soil mixes before this so it hasn’t changed my watering schedule much. The one thing I’m more confident in is that I won’t overwater my plants. I think another reason it retains more water (along with pockets in the rocks) is the humidity. If you don’t have a reservoir you can still use a slow release. Other than that any fertilizer will do as long as it’s a good balanced one. In hydroponics they have to supplement for every nutrient because leca has none. Pon will hold onto nutrients until your plant needs it and acts more like a soil. I haven’t tested out clear pots but I would pick up your pot and see how it feels. If it is very light but has condensation I would say don’t wait. 😊
I was thinking of trying pon when everyone was making videos trying it...then 6 months later people are complaining of root mealies. Still fun to watch though
No root mealies here! Could be diy pon that hasn’t been properly sterilized? I know Lechuza had their own process for creation and cleaning of their product.

💚💚
How can you tell when the pon is dry and needs another watering?
Do you have to water more often that in a soil mix with Pon? I was imagining u would, since it’s mostly rocks, with nothing to hold a bit of moisture?
It holds more moisture than you would think. I was using airy soil mixes before this so it hasn’t changed my watering schedule much. The one thing I’m more confident in is that I won’t overwater my plants. I think another reason it retains more water (along with pockets in the rocks) is the humidity. How do you set up your poles within pon?
