I read The Dead every winter. It stands alone from Dubliners. So much interpretive value and statement on not only Irish nationalism but humanity. The Dead is too long because life is not, and the characters are trying to extend it by reading poems, singing an aria, dancing, sharing a ritual meal, etc. Gretta's revelation at the end is the only reality achieved after a social gathering that attempts humanity but is hollow. The horse metaphor is also something else.
Self doubt is an enemy of mine
For many of us.
How do you always know what I’m reading?
Because I am incompetent. I mean omniscient.
