You forgot to mention, that Mithridates was initially rewarded for killing Cyrus, but he was ordered to be silent about his action, so that king Artaxerxes could claim that he killed his brother. Mithridates disobeyed however and this angered the king so much, that he condemned him to such horrible punishment.

For those of you wondering why Mithridates was even punished for killing the REBEL king, here’s the full context:
Artaxerxes actually initially rewarded Mithridates with luxury for killing Cyrus. However, Artaxerxes wanted to take the credit for his public image (even if most people already knew what happened), so he ordered Mithridates to keep quiet about the truth. As you can guess, Mithridates didn’t - he got drunk at a party and ended up telling everyone there what really happened. THIS made Artaxerxes so mad that he ordered this horrible execution

There is a case of scaphism in french Guiana. Specifically on the island of silence also known as the devils island. One executioner, Henri Clasiot, was so hated that other inmates tied him to a tree filled with flesh-eating ants, smeared him with honey, and left him to a slow death.
Most likely 9 times out of 10,the act of the execution was far more worse than the actual crime itself.

Brazen bull, bronze bull, or Sicilian bull, was allegedly a torture and execution device designed in ancient Greece. According to Diodorus Siculus, recounting the story in Bibliotheca historica, Perillos of Athens invented and proposed it to Phalaris, the tyrant of Akragas, Sicily, as a new means of executing criminals. The bull was said to be made entirely out of bronze, hollow, with a door in one side. According to legends the brazen bull was designed in the form and size of an actual bull and had an acoustic apparatus that converted screams into the sound of a bull. The condemned were locked inside the device, and a fire was set under it, heating the metal until the person inside was roasted to death.

There was another type of scaphism (If this still counts as), where the victim was put in a tub a lid on top of it with just a hole for his head to stick out and then it was nailed shut. The tub was filled with water and he was fed everyday, generously with hearthy meals. Same fate quite gruesome.

@@kaylenewu1198 I’m not sure because I’ve never experienced it, but it makes sense to me. if you hold the length of time of the torture constant, there must be extreme levels of pain that are more or less equal because tolerance to pain doesn’t climb up to infinity. There reaches a limit to how much pain the body can handle before passing out.
