  • This awesome tree was recently bought by one of our customers. They gave us permission to do an air layer on it and we decided to make a video of the process.

Hi Jason! I Enjoyed your video. Do you know if this technique will work on Korean Hornbeam?

I love to see new videos from you. I am trying to find the video where you talk about the knife you use but I can't find which video it was. I think I remember you saying what brand it was in a video but I might be wrong. I want to get a good knife for bonsai use. Is the knife you use a Flexcut brand and do you use it for grafting also? I thought about getting a Japanese style grafting\ carving knife but the one you use looks like it would be more comfortable to use. Does the knife you use have a chisel grind like a Japanese grafting knife? Sorry for all the questions I know you are a busy man. Thanks.

Use a Japanese grafting knife to graft. Or a razor blade. And yes I use flex cut to clean up edges on my bonsai. I love the brand.

Hey Jason just wanted to say I got my willow leaf ficus and it looks great!! Can you tell when you repotted it last? Also do you think it would be better off in a green house in the summer of simply outside in full sun? Thanks again for the tree and extremely fast delivery!!

it was repotted earlier this year. I grow them outside as long as possible( I'm in Florida), but if the nights are below 50 in your area, I'd consider a greenhouse for maximum development if the cold seems to be detrimental to the positive state of growth. thank you again!

Do you keep the spagnum moss damp? If so, how?

GAndrew Brand I check on it weekly by opening a corner of the airlayer and check for moisture. if it's moist, I leave it, if not, I add some water and recover. I very rarely have to add any water. it doesn't suck up the moisture much, exp if it doesn't have roots yet.

Did the air layering end with success?

Great video! Two questions for you. Is it too late in the growing season to do this at the beginning of summer (end of june)? Can this be done in the absence of rooting hormone?

Hey Jason, new to the channel but I've watched most of your videos in the last few days lol, great videos! I had a question I live in Northern California so our weather is fairly mild. I've had bad luck with bougainvilleas particularly after repotting nursery stock into a larger container with bonsai soil. I know the roots are delicate so I only remove the thick woody roots and never bare root it, but they still die. Tried twice now and I'm scared to try a third on a nice little pink pixie. Any suggestions would be great and sorry for the long post.

Michael Paul actually, don't be gentle. bareroot, and put in bonsai soil. But don't do it any other time but in the summer. thry need to recover and grow new roots, and won't do that if too cool at night. I say wait til nights are at least 60f, and will stay that way for at least 6 months. you should have fine success
