This vid was a BIGGGGGG help at the side of a highway. Dumb roadside assistance took more than 90 minutes by which time we were gone. Sure glad we didn’t wait for them!’
Having owned many vehicles I’m amazed that Toyota has you place a flat orange juice cap sized jack point on a round axle. That should be concave or something sketchy as hell. This is a very good video and spot on. Just damn Toyota wow.
Exactly! Thats why i had to watch this video. I was looking and thought there was no way Toyota would have a flat jack and want you to jack directly on axle. Sure shit though. Seems sketchy
I just tried changing my tire tonight, in a parking lot, in the dark. Did my best using flashlight, but when I was putting on the spare the truck slipped off the jack. The spare caught it (help it up by the brake rotor, but no lug nuts on yet). That little top of the jack fitting against a round axle (at the jack point) is sketchy. I'm going to buy an adaptor that fits the jack top and cradles the axle at the lift point. Thankfully my rotor was fine and I ended up calling AAA to finish the job as I was not getting under that truck to try and fit the jack again. Great video btw!
I too was incredulous that Toyota expects you to use that barely half-dollar size jack head on a round axle, but yep, that's what they expect you to do. Thankfully mine didn't slip off until about 10 seconds after I tightened the last lug nut. For chrissakes, what are they thinking!?!? And just for the record, I've been jacking up cars for about 40 years now, and I'm not an idiot.
I have actually watched this video 2x now- separated by many years and each time I had to remember where to position the jack! Thank you so much for posting!!!!!
Thanks so much for your expertise and this video. I'm a new 4Runner owner and ALL the other "instructional" videos and chat rooms were wrong. many think you can't use the jack to get the truck high enough. Many don't point you to the "right" areas of the truck's underside to put the jack. Thanks again. (I had called Toyota Roadside Assistance (free for three years..) 4 hours and waiting... finally found your video... did it myself and called them back and said "Forgetaboutit". :) thx
Excellent video thank you. I just bought a Hilux Surf and tonight I was looking at the jack and trying to find where to jack from. Seems sketch to put it right on axle, they should top of jack have a bit of a shape to go around axle. Guess I'll be keeping a jack stand in the surf too!
You are correct, it should have a better contact point on either the jack or on the axel. It’s very easy to have it slip off while jacking. Be SURE to chock the front tires when jacking the rear. And, be sure you’re parked on level paved or concrete surface. It’ll sink on dirt. Good luck-
according to the 4runner owners manual, there's a raised area on the rear axle to sort of lock in with a notch on the head of the jack. danged if I can find it though
It’s hard to see in this video, but watch the start of this video (linked below) and I go through how to lift if you’re putting the 4Runner on jack stands. You lift from the middle front until you’re high enough to put the stands on the side frame of both sides. DIY: How to Remove Rotors on a 2016 Toyota 4Runner ua-cam.com/video/G0MO0ISaBnc/v-deo.html
More than likely you will need an aftermarket bottle jack and an extension from someone like Safe Jake. The time to learn what you need and how to use it is before you need on a cold dark night. I keep a 6 ton bottle jack with an extension and an 8 inch square piece of 2 inch think walnut as a base in the vehicle. My runner has 3.5 inch lift on 285 tires and the stock jack is a no go.
Technically you can, but doing brakes requires you to do much more than just reaching you hands in under the wheel well to swap a tire, so I personally would have the car on jack stands. I never work on a car that is lifted up without solid stands and I wouldn't recommend anybody else does either.
@@theMostUNinterestingManAlive I've seen quite a few injuries over the years relating to vehicles that fall off jacks (and those are the lucky ones who live through it) so yes...always use good quality jackstands.
Great video. Thank you!!! The fact that you show everything in great detail is amazing, it's crucial IMO to know every little detail. 🎉✨

Big help for me and my gfs 2018 4runner, been stuck in a random parking lot at 11pm. THANK YOU!

Yeah, this stuck out to me, too. I haven't looked at the top of my jack, but I hope it's at least rubberized.
@@Gamma00Ray mine isn't

I have a 2002 j90 land cruiser and the jack is exactly the same! Just goes to show it's a good design, best jack I've ever had with a car
watched this on the side of the road and it saved me a call to AAA. Thank you!
I got a flat on my truck and this really helped me out. Thank you!
Such a simple video but so informative and helpful ! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the video. I changed out my winter tires today. I would like to add that wheel chocks also help.

Glad the video helped, thanks! Remember most of the info is in the owners manual (in case you're out without internet)..
Thanks for reminding me that the jack points are in the owner's manual.
Perfect thank you for the video, just what I was looking for. Great work.
You saved my life brother, many thanks
Nice job with the demo and lesson!
Thank you sir, great video and explanation
Love the simple old-school brown jack

@@michaelengle9062 interesting. Yeah mine doesn't have that
Thanks for the video, was a big help!!
Very informative and helpful. Straight to the point. Thanks. It was very helpful.
Thanks a lot... now i know where the jack point is..
Where would you put Jack stands underneath the front of the vehicle, if the floor Jack is occupying that space to jack it up?

Very helpful. Thank you.
how about replacing rear tyres? almost videos in youtube provide tutorial for replacing front tyres only
Great video
Is it same in 2018 innova crysta
How much can it hold this jack?
Great video! Thanks!
can i use this on another car
Yes probably depending on it’s weight and just read the owners manual to make sure you use the right jack points
@@theMostUNinterestingManAlive for some reason by friends nissan was too low for he jack to for under .. we ended up using a scissor jack
The Jack provided does not extend high enough to remove the tire
is your car lifeted? i have a 3 inch lift haven't used my jack yet to see if I need to replace it.

Good video Brotha. I have a 2014 SR5 4Runner. Is it the same setup for that year’s model? You got a new subscriber.
Great! Yeah it should be the same setup for 2010-2021

Damn i didn’t think that lil jack had it in him definitely a grower n not a shower 😂

That's the exact same jack my 96 had
